Floccus is a free, open-source way to sync native bookmarks across Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Install its extension in each browser, connect each profile to the same storage backend, and choose the folders and sync behavior you want. Floccus’s documentation lists all three browsers as supported; this is a vendor-documented recommendation, not a claim of hands-on testing.
What Floccus syncs—and what it needs
Floccus synchronizes bookmarks stored in the browsers themselves; it is not a separate bookmark manager interface. You continue adding, organizing, and opening bookmarks through each browser’s normal tools. Safari is not listed as supported in Floccus’s current documentation.
To connect the browsers, Floccus needs a shared backend: a place where its profiles can exchange bookmark data. Its documented choices include Google Drive, Dropbox, Git, WebDAV-compatible storage, Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, and KaraKeep. Some choices involve setting up or managing your own storage; the best fit depends on whether you value a simpler existing account or more control over where data is kept.

Choose a backend before installing
- Google Drive: A straightforward option if you already use it. Floccus says its Google Drive profiles can be configured for end-to-end encryption.
- WebDAV: A flexible option for compatible hosted or self-managed storage. Floccus also supports configurable end-to-end encryption with WebDAV profiles.
- Dropbox, Git, Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, or KaraKeep: These are also listed by Floccus. Their setup and account or storage requirements vary; consult the relevant Floccus guide before choosing.
Encryption availability is backend-specific. Floccus’s FAQ identifies Google Drive and WebDAV as supporting a profile encryption password; it does not establish that every backend offers this feature. See the Floccus FAQ and official guides for the options and setup details.

Set up syncing across the three browsers
- Back up important bookmarks. Export them from each browser before the first sync so you can recover if the initial combination is not what you expect. This is a precaution, not a stated Floccus product requirement.
- Install Floccus in each browser. Use the relevant browser extension store for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Floccus provides installation links and instructions in its guides; its Chrome Web Store listing is here.
- Create a profile in each browser. In the Floccus extension, follow the setup flow to create a profile and select the same backend in all three browsers. Supply the account or storage details that backend requires.
- Choose the bookmark folder and sync strategy. Review which folder the profile will synchronize and the selected strategy before enabling ongoing sync. Make the same intended choices in each browser; the available controls and wording are described in the Floccus guides.
- Disable native bookmark sync, following Floccus’s guidance. Floccus advises turning off each browser’s built-in bookmark syncing while using its extension, since running another bookmark sync service at the same time may cause duplicates or data corruption. This is the project’s setup advice, not a universal guarantee about every configuration.
- Run the first sync and inspect the result. Check the bookmark folders in all three browsers, including any duplicates or unexpected placement, before relying on the shared set. If the result is wrong, pause further syncing and use your export to restore or reconcile bookmarks before trying again.

For the exact combination of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, Floccus is the best-supported fit among these documented choices. xBrowserSync’s Edge status should be checked against its roadmap and official site before relying on it. Mozilla describes Firefox Sync for Firefox and Mozilla products, not as a cross-browser Chrome-and-Edge solution.

What to check if bookmarks do not match
- Confirm the same backend: Each browser profile needs to point to the same shared storage location, not merely the same backend service.
- Review folder selection and strategy: A folder omitted from a profile or a different sync strategy can make the result look incomplete or unexpected.
- Look for another active sync service: Check that built-in bookmark sync is disabled as Floccus recommends, and avoid allowing two services to modify bookmarks during setup.
- Use the backup if the first merge is wrong: Stop syncing before restoring or reconciling exported bookmarks, then review the profile settings before another attempt.
- Check current documentation: Extension availability, supported browsers, backends, and setup details can change. Use the current Floccus guides and FAQ for your browser and chosen backend.
