You do not add a Siri Remote as a separate item in the Find My app. To locate a supported remote, use the Apple TV Remote control in your iPhone’s Control Center. Your iPhone must run iOS 17 or later, your Apple TV must run tvOS 17 or later, and the remote must be a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote (second generation or later).
Open Control Center, choose Apple TV Remote, open the device list, tap Find beside the missing remote, and follow the onscreen search. The indicator changes from far to near to here as you approach it.
What “Find My” for a Siri Remote actually does
Apple’s documented workflow starts in the Apple TV Remote control on an iPhone. It is not a setup process in which you manually register the remote as an independent item in the Find My app. Once the compatible software and remote are in place, the control can start a search for the remote associated with your Apple TV.
Apple describes the supported feature as finding an “Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote (2nd generation or later)” with an iPhone. The search experience is designed for locating a nearby remote: the onscreen circle grows and the status changes from far, to near, to here as you move toward it.

The current Siri Remote product listing also describes two locating behaviors: playing a sound and using Precision Finding on iPhone. Apple’s Find My overview explains that Precision Finding can present distance and direction for compatible items on an iPhone or Apple Watch. The exact options shown can depend on the remote and software combination, so use the controls that appear on your device.
Check compatibility before you look
Confirm these three conditions before troubleshooting the Control Center:
- iPhone: iOS 17 or later.
- Apple TV: tvOS 17 or later.
- Remote: Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, second generation or later.
Apple’s support instructions define the feature around those minimum versions and remote generations. If any one of them is outside that scope, the documented Find workflow may not appear.

Supported remote generations
| Remote covered by Apple’s support instructions | Find workflow |
|---|---|
| Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, second generation | Supported when the iPhone has iOS 17 or later and the Apple TV has tvOS 17 or later. |
| Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, third generation | Supported when the iPhone has iOS 17 or later and the Apple TV has tvOS 17 or later. |
| Siri Remote, fourth generation | The current product page advertises Find My sound playback and Precision Finding on iPhone. |
The current fourth-generation product listing identifies compatibility with Apple TV 4K (first, second, third, and fourth generations) and Apple TV HD. The support article’s general requirement remains the important check for the Control Center procedure: second-generation-or-later remote, iOS 17 or later, and tvOS 17 or later.
How to find the remote from iPhone Control Center
- Bring the iPhone near the Apple TV setup. You need the iPhone that can open the Apple TV Remote control for this Apple TV. If you are checking compatibility first, verify the operating-system versions before beginning.
- Open Control Center. On an iPhone X or later, swipe down from the top-right corner. On an iPhone SE or an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Apple TV Remote. This opens the iPhone control used to operate the Apple TV.
- Open the device list. Tap the device-list control in the Apple TV Remote interface so the available Apple TV devices and their remote controls are shown.
- Choose Find beside the missing remote. Tap Find next to the remote you are trying to locate.
- Follow the onscreen search. Walk through the room while watching the indicator. Apple says the circle grows and the status moves from far to near to here as you get closer.
- Check the likely hiding places when the indicator reaches “here.” Look around the immediate area, including beside and behind the furniture where the Apple TV is installed, before moving farther away again. The indicator is intended to guide the final part of the search; it does not replace a visual check of the room.
If your iPhone shows a sound option for the remote, use it while you search. The current Siri Remote product page specifically advertises sound playback through Find My; the onscreen controls determine whether that option is available for your particular remote.
What the far, near and here states mean
Far
Far means the search has not yet brought you close enough for the strongest part of the guidance. Move methodically through the room rather than repeatedly crossing the same area. Keep the search screen open so you can see when the state changes.
Near
Near indicates that you are getting closer. Slow down and check the area around your current position. Small movements can help you determine which side of a sofa, cabinet or table the remote is on.

Here is the strongest proximity indication in Apple’s wording. Search the immediate surroundings carefully, including surfaces and gaps that are easy to overlook. If a sound control is offered, trigger it while you inspect that area.
If Apple TV Remote is missing from Control Center
The absence of the control is usually a compatibility or setup problem rather than a separate Find My registration problem. Work through these checks in order.
1. Verify both software versions
Check that the iPhone is on iOS 17 or later and that the Apple TV is on tvOS 17 or later. Those are the minimum versions in Apple’s documented procedure. If either device is below the required version, update it before looking for the control again.
2. Identify the remote generation
Make sure the missing remote is a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote from the second generation onward. The support instructions do not extend the documented search to earlier remote generations. If you are unsure which remote you have, compare it with the generation information supplied with the Apple TV or remote; do not assume that every Apple TV remote has the feature.

3. Open the correct Control Center location
Use the gesture that matches the iPhone model: top-right downward swipe for iPhone X and later, or bottom-edge upward swipe for iPhone SE and iPhone 8 or earlier. Opening another screen or swiping from the wrong edge will not show the Apple TV Remote control.
4. Enter the device list inside Apple TV Remote
The Find command is reached after tapping Apple TV Remote and then opening its device list. It is not described as a standalone Control Center command named Find My. Look for Find beside the relevant remote after the device list opens.
5. Recheck which Apple TV is selected
If more than one Apple TV is available to the iPhone, the device list matters. Select the Apple TV associated with the missing remote, then look for the Find command on that entry. Choosing a different Apple TV can make the expected remote unavailable in the list.

Keep the search active while changing position
The documented guidance is proximity-based: the status changes as you approach. Move through the room in a simple pattern, pause when the state changes, and inspect the nearby area before continuing. Avoid treating a single “far” reading as proof that the remote is outside the room.
Use sound when it is offered
Apple’s current Siri Remote product page says Find My can make the remote play a sound. Start the sound from the search controls if that option is visible, then listen near furniture, cushions and other places where a remote can be covered. If no sound command appears, continue with the visual and proximity guidance that is shown; the available controls can vary by remote and software.
Remember that “here” is a search area, not a photograph
The Find screen guides you to a nearby location but does not show the remote’s exact physical position. At the “here” stage, search the immediate area thoroughly instead of continuing to walk around the room.
How this differs from adding an item in the Find My app
Apple’s support documentation launches the process from Control Center → Apple TV Remote → device list → Find. It does not describe manually adding the Siri Remote as a separate Find My item. That distinction explains why looking only in the item-adding screens of the Find My app may not reveal a setup option.
For this feature, “set up Find My” means meeting the software and remote requirements and then using the Apple TV Remote control. There is no separate registration sequence in Apple’s documented steps.

Find My can help locate a supported remote, but it cannot make a lost or damaged remote usable. If the remote cannot be recovered or no longer works, Apple lists the Siri Remote as a standalone replacement product. A replacement is the practical next step when the original is missing permanently or is physically damaged.
When choosing a replacement, match it to the Apple TV you use. Apple’s current fourth-generation Siri Remote listing identifies compatibility with Apple TV 4K (first, second, third and fourth generations) and Apple TV HD. Verify the compatibility information for the specific replacement before purchasing, especially if your Apple TV model is older.
