Godlike.Host offers hosted 7 Days to Die servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To put Catalysm’s Server Manager & Monitor (CSMM) on a 7 Days to Die dedicated server, get the game server running, install Alloc’s Server Fixes, create a dedicated web API token with webtokens add <name> <token> 0, and enter that token and the server’s web port in CSMM. You can use CSMM’s hosted service, deploy the documented DigitalOcean image, or run CSMM yourself. The choice changes who maintains the operating system, database, reverse proxy, backups and updates.
What CSMM does and how the connection works
CSMM is a browser-based control plane for one or more 7 Days to Die servers. Its official overview lists performance monitoring, player-action and movement tracking, item delivery, player bans, an in-game economy, and separate permissions and settings for different servers. Read the feature overview at docs.csmm.app.
CSMM does not replace the dedicated game server. The game server remains the authority for worlds, players, mods and console commands. CSMM connects to the server through the game’s web API, using a token you create in the server console. If the server is stopped, the token is wrong, or the web endpoint is blocked by a firewall, CSMM cannot manage it.
The documented setup path is therefore:
- Build and start a working dedicated server.
- Install Alloc’s Server Fixes on that server.
- Create a separate web token for CSMM.
- Select a CSMM deployment (hosted, one-click, or self-hosted).
- Add the game server in the CSMM interface with its token and web port.
- Restrict access, test a harmless command, and establish backups and update checks.
Prerequisites and a pre-flight checklist
Complete these checks before opening the CSMM setup screen:

- A running 7 Days to Die dedicated server, not merely a local game client. The official server guide covers a SteamCMD and LinuxGSM-based installation separately from the client: 7 Days to Die server setup.
- Administrative console access to the game server, because the token commands must be entered there.
- Alloc’s Server Fixes installed and loaded. CSMM’s quick-start documentation lists this mod as a prerequisite: CSMM installation.
- The web/API port used by the server. The server guide identifies TCP port 8082 for CSMM or Alloc’s mod web map; confirm your actual configuration rather than assuming every installation uses the default.
- A CSMM account or portal address. For the hosted service, use the regional endpoint supplied by CSMM; for self-hosting, you need the URL of your own installation.
- A plan for DNS, TLS, firewall rules and backups if CSMM will be exposed outside a private network.
Keep the game version, Alloc’s Server Fixes release and CSMM documentation aligned. After a 7 Days to Die update, verify that the mod and the web API still work before relying on CSMM for moderation.
Prepare the dedicated game server
Install or verify the server
Follow the official server procedure for your operating system, SteamCMD installation and LinuxGSM configuration. Start the server and confirm that players can connect normally before troubleshooting CSMM. A server that cannot load its world, accept players or execute console commands is not ready for a management layer.

Check the web endpoint and port
Determine which interface and port expose the game server’s web API. Documentation identifies TCP 8082 for CSMM or Alloc’s mod web map, but a custom configuration may differ. If a host firewall or cloud firewall is enabled, permit only the addresses that need management access. Do not broadly forward telnet or web-console ports to the public internet; the server guide specifically warns against casual exposure of these management services.
Install Alloc’s Server Fixes
Install the server-side mod using the procedure in the CSMM quick-start documentation. Restart the game server, inspect its startup log for mod-loading errors, and verify that the web API responds before proceeding. CSMM cannot compensate for a failed or incompatible mod installation.
Create the CSMM web API token
Create a token dedicated to CSMM rather than reusing a password or another integration credential. Treat the value like a password: store it in a password manager, avoid putting it in screenshots or public issue reports, and rotate it if it is disclosed.

At the game-server console, inspect current tokens:

webtokens listThis lets you avoid accidentally replacing an existing integration and helps identify stale credentials that should be removed according to your server-administration procedure.
Add a dedicated token
Run the documented command, replacing the name and token value with your own choices:
webtokens add csmm YOUR_LONG_RANDOM_TOKEN 0The token must be at least 10 characters long. The trailing 0 is required by the documented command syntax; do not omit it. Use a long, randomly generated value rather than a memorable word. The command and minimum length are documented in the CSMM Quick Start Guide.
Record the connection details
Write down the token name, the token value, the server hostname or IP address, and the confirmed web port in a secure location. You will paste the token into CSMM, but you should not put it in a shell history file, chat message or public configuration repository. If you later revoke or replace the token, update CSMM immediately so an old credential cannot continue to work.
Add the game server in CSMM
- Open your CSMM portal. Select the regional cloud-hosted endpoint supplied by CSMM, or open the URL of your self-hosted installation.
- Choose the control for adding a server. The exact button label can change with the portal version, so use the server-management or installation screen described in the current installation guide.
- Enter the game server’s address and the web/API port you confirmed earlier. If your setup uses TCP 8082, enter 8082; do not guess if you changed the port.
- Paste the dedicated web token. Check for leading or trailing spaces, which make an otherwise correct token fail authentication.
- Save the server and wait for the first connection or status check. A successful connection should expose the server’s status and allow a low-risk read operation.
- Test with a non-destructive action, such as viewing status or player information. Delay item grants, bans and economy changes until permissions and audit expectations are configured.
If the portal reports a connection failure, test in order: game-server process, Alloc’s Server Fixes load, token syntax, web port, host firewall, cloud firewall and DNS/routing. A browser connection to the CSMM portal alone does not prove that the portal can reach the game server.
Choose a CSMM deployment
CSMM documentation describes three practical paths. They provide the same management concept but assign operational work differently.

Choose cloud hosting when avoiding Linux administration is more important than infrastructure control. Choose the one-click image when you want your own host but prefer an automated first install. Choose a manual self-host when you need control over data location, network placement, update timing or operating-system policy.
Use the CSMM cloud-hosted service
The hosted option requires no new VPS. The official home page describes a flow in which you provide the game-server connection details and use the hosted portal. Create or sign in to the account required by the current portal, add the server as described above, and keep the web token private. Because the application host is operated for you, your responsibilities are the game server, token lifecycle, network reachability, permissions and backups of the game world and configuration.

Deploy the DigitalOcean one-click image
The official one-click guide calls the DigitalOcean marketplace deployment the easiest self-managed method. The image automatically installs and configures CSMM, supporting services and a reverse proxy. The documented deployment has succeeded on a 1 GB RAM droplet, but the same page warns that 1 GB may become overloaded quickly and recommends 2 GB for stability. Read the current procedure at CSMM one-click self-hosting.
- Create a droplet from the CSMM marketplace image and select at least the documented 2 GB recommendation if you want stability headroom.
- Assign a domain name to the droplet. The guide suggests Duck DNS when you do not already have a domain; configure the DNS record to point to the droplet’s address.
- Follow the image’s first-boot instructions to complete the CSMM and reverse-proxy configuration. Do not expose the administration interface until you have set strong credentials and firewall rules.
- Enable HTTPS through the reverse proxy according to the current image documentation, then open the resulting CSMM URL.
- Add the game server with its web port and dedicated token. Keep the game API restricted so only the CSMM host and approved administrators can reach it.
- Schedule droplet snapshots or database backups that you can restore, and monitor memory usage. If the host approaches exhaustion, stop nonessential services or resize it rather than relying on swap as a permanent fix.
The one-click image reduces initial installation work; it does not remove responsibility for domain renewal, firewall policy, operating-system patches, credentials, backups or incident response.
Install CSMM manually on your own host
Manual installation is appropriate when you already operate Linux services or need a specific network and data layout. The official host guide requires a supported Node.js runtime, a production dependency install, an environment file, a one-time database migration and production startup. It directs readers to the Node.js website for runtime instructions, so verify the currently supported Node.js version in the live documentation before installing it. Do not pin an undocumented version from an old tutorial.

1. Prepare the host
Provision a supported Linux host with SSH access, a firewall and enough CPU, memory and storage for CSMM, its database and logs. Create a non-root service account where practical. Decide whether the host will be reachable only over a private network or through a public HTTPS reverse proxy.
2. Clone the application
Clone the CSMM repository using the current command in the official self-host guide, then change into the application directory. The repository URL and branch should come from that live guide so they match the release you intend to run.
3. Install production dependencies
From the application directory, run the documented production-only install:
npm install --only=prodInstalling only production dependencies reduces unnecessary packages on a live host. If npm reports a runtime or native-module incompatibility, stop and resolve the supported Node.js version rather than forcing the installation with unrelated flags.
4. Create the environment file
Create the environment file required by the host guide and fill in the database, application URL, authentication and other values specified there. Keep this file outside public web roots, restrict its permissions, and include it in an encrypted backup. Never commit it to a public Git repository.
5. Migrate the database once
Run the one-time production migration from the application directory:

NODE_ENV=production npm run db:migrateTake a database backup before later migrations. Record the migration result and keep the application code and database schema aligned; rolling back code without a compatible schema can prevent startup.
6. Start in production mode
Start CSMM with:
NODE_ENV=production npm run startThe documentation emphasizes production mode for security, application stability and data persistence. Run the process under a supervisor such as the service manager you already use, configure automatic restart only after confirming that a crash is not caused by a bad environment value, and send logs to a location with rotation and access controls.
7. Put a controlled HTTPS endpoint in front
Use a reverse proxy or private-network gateway to provide the URL administrators will open. Terminate TLS, redirect plain HTTP where appropriate, limit administrative access by network or identity, and keep the game server’s web API separate from the public CSMM website. Then add the game server in CSMM and test a read-only operation.

Port 8082 is the documented TCP port for CSMM or Alloc’s mod web map, but the actual value is configuration-dependent. Permit it only between the CSMM host and the game server, or between trusted administrator networks and the server when direct administration is necessary. Do not assume that hiding a port number is a security control.
- Use host and cloud firewalls with an allow-list for the CSMM host and administrator addresses.
- Keep telnet and web-console ports off the public internet unless a specific, protected requirement demands otherwise; the server guide warns against casual forwarding.
- Use HTTPS for a public CSMM URL and protect DNS, registrar and reverse-proxy accounts with strong authentication.
- Rotate the CSMM token after staff changes, suspected disclosure or a migration to a new host.
- Grant CSMM permissions according to duties. A moderator who only needs player actions should not automatically receive economy, item or ban authority.
Discord integration: treat chat as a command surface
If you enable CSMM’s Discord integration, apply administrator control to Discord permissions and lock down the channel used for the chat bridge. The official warning is consequential: anyone who can type in that bridge channel can send messages in-game. Restrict who can view and write there, audit role inheritance, and remove access for former staff. Follow the integration guidance at CSMM Discord integration.
Mods and game-version compatibility
The modding guide explains that server-side mods are downloaded to players so clients receive the correct experience. CSMM and CPM do not need to be told about every new item a mod adds; the game server supplies that information. Install and test mods on a staging server when possible, then verify that the server, Alloc’s Server Fixes and CSMM still communicate after each game update. See the CSMM modding guide.

Avoid mixing an old Alloc’s Server Fixes build with a newly updated game simply because the server process still starts.
Troubleshooting connection and startup failures

Maintenance after the first successful connection
- Test CSMM after every 7 Days to Die update and after updating Alloc’s Server Fixes.
- Back up the game world, server configuration, CSMM environment file and database. Test a restore instead of assuming a backup is usable.
- Review CSMM users and per-server permissions when staff roles change.
- Rotate web tokens and remove obsolete entries from the server’s token list.
- Patch the self-hosted operating system, Node.js runtime and CSMM according to the current host documentation, staging changes when the server is busy.
- Monitor disk space, memory, database growth and reverse-proxy certificate expiry.
- Keep management ports private and document which firewall rule permits CSMM to reach the game server.
Once these controls are in place, CSMM becomes a repeatable management layer rather than a single exposed credential: the game server remains reachable, the token is scoped and replaceable, and the deployment can be restored after a host or update failure.
