You can stop refreshing charts by creating a target-price alert in an exchange or portfolio-tracking app. Choose the asset or trading pair, set whether the trigger is above or below a price (or a percentage move where supported), save it, and allow notifications in both the app and your phone or computer. An alert is only a signal to review the market; it does not submit an order or guarantee that you will be notified at the exact moment a price is reached.
This guide covers the documented setup flows for Coinbase and Binance, alternatives from CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap, notification troubleshooting, alert design, and the separate case of Binance P2P advertisement-price alerts.
What a crypto price alert does—and does not do
A price alert watches a selected asset or trading pair and sends a message when a condition is met. Typical conditions are “rises above $X,” “falls below $X,” a percentage change, or a specified 24-hour move. Depending on the service, delivery can be a push notification, an in-app inbox message, email, or more than one channel.
The alert is informational. Coinbase’s official documentation states that its alerts “do not place an order for that asset” and are “for informational purposes only and do not constitute investment advice or advice to buy or sell an asset.” Coinbase Help Other providers describe their own features, but you should apply the same operational assumption: a notification is a prompt to check current prices, liquidity, fees, and news, not a guaranteed execution or a promise that a message arrives at a precise instant.

Prepare before creating an alert
- Choose the exact instrument. Decide whether you need a coin-level price, such as BTC, or a trading pair, such as BTC/EUR. The quote currency changes the target value.
- Pick a sensible source. An exchange is convenient when you already trade there. An independent tracker can be better when you want monitoring without opening an exchange screen.
- Define the action point. Write down the price or percentage and whether the trigger is upward or downward. Avoid a target so close to the current price that normal fluctuations create unwanted messages.
- Choose a channel you will notice. Push is usually fastest to see, while email or an in-app inbox can provide a record. Enable only channels you regularly check.
- Check device permissions first. A saved alert cannot appear as a banner if the operating system has blocked notifications, Focus mode, battery restrictions, or background activity.
General setup procedure
- Open the exchange or tracking app and sign in if required.
- Search for the asset or trading pair and confirm the quote currency.
- Open the asset’s alert control, often shown as a bell icon.
- Select the condition: above, below, percentage change, 24-hour change, or a recurring target if offered.
- Enter the target value and select the frequency. Use a one-time alert for a single decision point; use recurring alerts when you want repeated notices as the market crosses a level again.
- Save or create the alert.
- Open the service’s notification settings and turn on the relevant price-alert category and delivery channel.
- In iOS, Android, Windows, or macOS settings, allow notifications for the app and review Focus, Do Not Disturb, battery-saver, and background-data rules.
- Review active alerts periodically. Remove obsolete levels and renew alerts that expire under the provider’s rules.
- When a message arrives, open the app and verify the live market context before deciding what to do. The message itself is not an order.
How to set price alerts in Coinbase
Coinbase’s documented mobile flow requires the asset to be on a watchlist before its alert can send. Menu labels can vary by app version, account, or region, but the sequence is:
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for the asset.
- Select the asset and add it to a watchlist.
- Tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose Add Alert.
- Select whether the trigger is Above or Below, then enter the target price.
- Tap Save.

Choose Coinbase delivery channels
Open Account & Settings → Notification Settings. Predetermined alerts and custom alerts have separate areas. Review the available push, in-app, and/or email toggles and enable the channels you will actually monitor. Device-level permission is separate: an enabled Coinbase toggle will not override a phone setting that blocks the app.
Edit or delete a Coinbase alert
Return to Account & Settings → Notification Settings, open the relevant alert category, and disable or remove the alert you no longer need. If an alert appears saved but no message arrives, first confirm that the asset remains on your watchlist, then check both Coinbase’s channel toggle and the operating system permission.

How to set price alerts in Binance
Binance documents its general price-alert feature in Binance Pro. The mobile sequence is:
- Open the app and go to Markets.
- Search for and select the trading pair.
- Tap Alert.
- Choose the alert type and enter the target value.
- Select the frequency, then tap Create Alert.
The documented alert types include reaching a price, rising above a price, dropping to a price, percentage change over or under a threshold, and 24-hour change over or down. This lets you monitor a relative move when an absolute price is not useful. The official instructions are at Binance Support.
Binance desktop setup
- Open the desktop app and select the Alerts icon.
- Choose Create Alert.
- Select the market and trading pair.
- Set the condition, target, and frequency.
- Confirm creation.
Enable notifications in the computer’s system settings as well as in Binance. If the desktop app is closed, background behavior and operating-system restrictions may affect delivery.

Binance limits and expiration
Binance’s general-alert documentation lists a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts across trading pairs, and 90-day validity. These are service rules stated on a page updated January 6, 2026, and may change; check the current in-app limits before planning a large alert set.

Tracking-app alternatives
CoinGecko
CoinGecko’s mobile guide describes target-price alerts for cryptocurrencies and NFT floor prices. For a coin, choose the target and select Once for a one-time notification or a recurring option when you want further notices after subsequent crossings. The provider’s instructions are at CoinGecko’s price-alert guide. Confirm the quote currency and the app’s notification permission before relying on the alert.
CoinMarketCap
CoinMarketCap describes per-coin app alerts and global notification controls. Notifications can appear in the CoinMarketCap inbox and on devices where you are signed in. Configure the relevant coin and global options from its notification settings page. The exact controls can differ between app and web interfaces, so verify that the coin-level alert is active after saving.
Which alert source should you use?

No provider is universally best. Availability, menu names, supported assets, and delivery behavior can vary by country, account, device, and app version. Select the service that covers the instrument and condition you need and that you can reliably keep enabled.

Use a small number of meaningful levels
Start with one downside level and one upside level for an asset you actively follow. Do not create dozens of closely spaced thresholds; ordinary volatility can produce a stream of notifications that you eventually ignore. Add another level only when it represents a different decision, such as reviewing a position after a larger move.

Match the condition to the question
- Above or below a price: useful when a specific valuation or support/resistance level matters.
- Percentage change: useful when you follow several assets at different prices and want the same relative move for each.
- 24-hour change: useful for a daily volatility check, but it is not the same as crossing a fixed price.
- Recurring target: useful when you want another notice after the market later crosses the level again.
- One-time target: useful for a single review and less likely to create notification fatigue.
Confirm the quote currency
A target of 1,000 is ambiguous without its quote currency. BTC/USD, BTC/EUR, and BTC/USDT can display different values and may use different markets. Select the exact pair or currency shown in the alert form and record it in your own notes if the level is important.

The alert was never saved
Reopen the asset or the provider’s active-alert list and confirm that the condition, target, frequency, and status are present. A dismissed creation screen does not create an alert.
Notifications are blocked on the device
Check the app’s notification permission in the operating system. Also inspect Focus or Do Not Disturb schedules, notification summaries, battery optimization, background-app limits, and mobile-data restrictions. Desktop users should check system notification banners and whether the app is allowed to run in the background.

The provider’s channel is disabled
In the service’s own settings, turn on the price-alert or custom-alert category and the channel you intend to use. Coinbase separates predetermined and custom alert settings; Binance specifically notes that device notifications must be enabled.
The target or asset is unsupported
Some services support only selected assets, pairs, or alert types. Recheck the selected market and quote currency. If a percentage or recurring option is missing, use the provider’s documented conditions rather than assuming every app offers identical controls.

The alert expired or reached a limit
Review active alerts after long periods away. Binance lists 90-day validity and caps general alerts at 10 per pair and 50 total. An expired alert must be recreated, and a full alert list requires removing an obsolete entry first.
The notification was delayed
Price feeds, network conditions, app processing, and operating-system scheduling can affect timing. Treat the message as a prompt to open the current market view, not as proof that the price is still at the target.

A P2P alert watches advertisement prices for a fiat-crypto pair, not the ordinary spot-market alert flow. To configure one in the Binance app, use Trade → P2P → Profile → Custom Alerts → Price Alert, select the relevant pair and condition, and save it. Device notifications must be enabled. Binance’s P2P documentation lists a maximum of 50 P2P alerts and 90-day expiration; that page was updated September 4, 2026. Read the current rules at Binance P2P Support.
Use this feature only when you specifically need advertisement-price monitoring. It should not be substituted for a spot-pair alert when your goal is to watch exchange-market prices.
Safe operating habits after an alert fires
- Open the app directly rather than acting from a notification preview or an unfamiliar link.
- Verify the pair, quote currency, current price, spread, volume, and timestamp.
- Check whether the move was a brief spike and whether the market is still trading normally.
- Review relevant account security and transaction details before entering credentials or approving a trade.
- Keep alerts informational: decide in advance whether the message means “research now,” “review an existing position,” or “do nothing.”
A maintenance routine that keeps alerts useful
- Once a week or after a major portfolio change, open the active-alert list.
- Delete levels tied to assets or decisions you no longer follow.
- Recreate alerts that have expired and confirm the date or frequency.
- Check that app and device notification permissions remain enabled after operating-system updates.
- Test one low-consequence alert when you install a new phone, switch accounts, or change notification modes.
- Reduce the list if you begin ignoring messages; fewer meaningful alerts are more useful than constant noise.
Key limitations to remember
The provider documentation linked above does not establish identical availability in every country, operating system, account type, or app version. It also does not promise instant delivery. Interfaces and service limits can change, so use the linked current support pages and the settings shown in your own account. A well-configured alert reduces the need to watch charts continuously, but it cannot replace checking live information when a notification arrives.
