To set up anime streaming on a PS5, open Media, choose All Apps, select an available streaming app, and choose Download. Then open TV & Video in the Media area and follow that service’s sign-in and playback prompts. The app list, account requirements, subscriptions, and catalog differ by country or region, so the apps shown on your console are the reliable availability check.
What you need before installing an anime app
You do not need a special accessory to install or watch an anime streaming app on PS5. The console menus, a DualSense controller, an internet connection, and any account requested by the selected service are sufficient.
- A PS5 connected to the internet: The console must be online to download an app, sign in, and stream video.
- Your console’s current region: PlayStation’s entertainment catalog varies by country or region. An app named in a general PlayStation guide may not appear in every location.
- A service account when prompted: Some apps use their own login and may require a subscription or other entitlement. PlayStation does not publish one universal account or plan requirement for every streaming service.
- Up-to-date software: Keeping PS5 system software and the streaming app current removes one common source of launch and playback errors.
If you are setting up the console for a child, decide separately how the streaming provider will handle age restrictions. PS5 parental controls may not apply to content inside streaming apps, so the provider’s own profile or content settings still matter.

#1 Best Overall
- Media playback controls - Quickly navigate media with built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse buttons.
- Seamless console compatibility - Power on your PS5 console and navigate its menus directly with the remote for ultimate convenience.
- TV settings - Adjust the volume and power settings of compatible TVs with the built-in IR transmitter. PS5 system software update may be required.
- From the PS5 home screen, move to the Media area.
- Open All Apps to see apps available for your console and region.
- Choose the anime streaming app you want, if it is listed.
- Select Download and wait for the installation to finish. The download and installation status is shown by the console.
- Return to the Media home when the app is installed.
Do not assume that an app is missing simply because it is not in the first row of recently used apps. Open App Library to see available installed apps and find one that is not currently displayed among recent items.
If the service you expected is not listed in All Apps, the most useful checks are your console’s country or region, the spelling of the service name, and whether the provider currently supports PS5 in that market. Do not try to install a phone or computer version manually; use the PS5 app catalog presented by the console.
Open the app, sign in, and start watching
Installing an app does not automatically sign you into the provider or select a program. Use the Media area to launch the service and complete its own setup.
- From the Media home, select TV & Video.
- Choose the installed service or the content entry you want to open.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for account access, profile selection, subscription verification, or any other service-specific step.
- Select an available anime title or channel and use the playback controls shown by that app.
Playback and sign-in screens are controlled by each provider. PlayStation Support states: “Playback steps vary by app. Check the information provided by the streaming service for details.” That means a code-based sign-in, an email-and-password form, profile selection, and subscription checks are all possible flows, but none should be treated as universal PS5 behavior.
If you already have an account with the selected provider, use that account rather than creating a second one unless the service specifically asks you to create a new profile. For plan, billing, eligibility, password, and profile questions, follow the service’s current instructions; the general PlayStation setup guide does not define the current terms of every provider.
Understanding the two accounts you may encounter
It is easy to confuse your PlayStation account with the account for an anime service. Your PlayStation account is used for console access and, for Live TV on PS5, to create or link a Sony Pictures CORE account. An on-demand app can separately request an account managed by that provider. Signing into one does not necessarily sign you into the other.
When a provider asks for a subscription, entitlement, or profile, read that screen carefully before confirming. PlayStation’s general installation instructions do not establish a universal price, free trial, billing cycle, or plan for every service. If you already pay for the service elsewhere, use its normal sign-in flow and check that the account has the expected access instead of assuming the PS5 creates a new subscription automatically.

Where to find apps after installation
Recently used apps
The Media home highlights recently used services for quick access. This area can change as you open other apps, so it is not a complete list of everything installed.
App Library
When an installed app is not visible among recent items, open App Library. This is the PS5 location to look for available apps that are not currently surfaced on the Media home.
All Apps versus App Library
Use All Apps when you are choosing an app to download. Use App Library when you are looking for an app already installed but absent from the recent-app row. Keeping those two purposes separate prevents unnecessary reinstalls.

Anime viewing choices on PS5
On-demand anime streaming apps
PlayStation’s PS5 entertainment material names the Crunchyroll app as an anime streaming option. That identification does not establish universal availability: the service may not appear in every country or region, and the catalog and account terms are controlled by the provider. Check All Apps on your own console, then read the service’s current prompts before deciding whether it meets your needs.

An on-demand app is the appropriate route when you want to browse a provider’s library and start a specific available title. The exact login screen, profile behavior, subscription check, and playback controls vary by app.
Live TV on PS5
PlayStation also describes Live TV on PS5 as a separate viewing option with free live channels and on-demand content that includes anime. To start it, open Media, select Live TV on PS5, and sign in with a PlayStation account to create or link a Sony Pictures CORE account. PlayStation describes this option as free to watch and says it can be controlled with either a DualSense controller or the optional Media Remote.
Live TV on PS5 is not a replacement for installing an on-demand subscription app. Its channel lineup, on-demand titles, eligibility, and terms can change, so check what is currently shown on your console. Treat it as an additional way to find anime rather than proof that a particular series is available on a separate streaming service.
| Choice | How you access it | Account or payment considerations | Catalog consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-demand anime app | Media > All Apps > choose the app > Download, then Media > TV & Video | Follow that provider’s current sign-in and subscription instructions; requirements differ by service | Titles depend on the provider’s current library and your region |
| Live TV on PS5 | Media > Live TV on PS5 | Log in with a PlayStation account to create or link a Sony Pictures CORE account; PlayStation describes viewing as free | Live channels and on-demand anime are offered, but the lineup and eligibility may change |
How to choose between an app and Live TV on PS5
Use three checks before spending time on account setup:
- Availability in your region: Look in All Apps for the app, and open Live TV on PS5 to see whether the option is offered to your account.
- Account and plan requirements: An on-demand provider may ask for its own account or paid plan. Live TV on PS5 uses PlayStation account access and Sony Pictures CORE account linkage as described above.
- The current catalog: Search the service or channel lineup for the anime you actually want. A service being available on PS5 does not guarantee that a particular series is in your market’s current catalog.
These checks are more reliable than assuming that an app listed in a general PS5 article is available everywhere or that a title shown in one region will appear in another.
Choose an on-demand app when control over the start time and the ability to search a provider’s library are your priorities. Try Live TV on PS5 when you want to sample free channels or on-demand programming without first installing another provider app. In either case, confirm the title, channel, and access terms on the console because offerings can change.
What to do when an app is not listed
First distinguish between an app that is unavailable and one that is merely hard to find. Search All Apps, then check App Library if you installed it previously. If it still does not appear in All Apps, the PS5 catalog is not offering it to that console at that time. Check the console’s country or region and the provider’s current PS5 support information; availability is not guaranteed across markets.
A missing app is not fixed by changing the home-screen row or repeatedly restarting. Those actions can reveal an installed app, but they do not add a service that is not offered in your region. Avoid downloading unofficial versions or trying to use a phone or computer package on PS5.
Fix an anime app that will not start
When an app fails to open, closes immediately, or displays a service error, use PlayStation’s troubleshooting sequence in order. Test the app after each major step so you know whether the problem has cleared.
1. Check PlayStation service status
Begin by checking whether PlayStation services are experiencing an outage. A service-side incident can prevent an otherwise correctly installed app from signing in or loading. If an outage is reported, wait for service recovery before repeatedly reinstalling the app.
2. Update the streaming app
Highlight the streaming app on the PS5, press the controller’s Options button, and choose the update command when it is offered. An outdated app can fail after a provider changes its sign-in or playback service.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3. Update PS5 system software
Install any available PS5 system software update using the console’s system-update controls. App compatibility can depend on the operating system as well as on the app’s own version.

4. Test the internet connection
Open Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. This confirms whether the PS5 can reach the network and reports the connection test results. If the test fails, resolve the console’s network connection before treating the streaming app as the sole cause.
5. Restart the PS5
Restart the console normally, then open the app again from TV & Video. A restart clears a temporary process problem without removing your installed apps or saved console data.
6. Delete and reinstall the app
If the app still will not launch, delete it from the PS5 and install it again through Media > All Apps. Reinstallation replaces damaged or incomplete app files. You will generally need to follow the provider’s sign-in prompts again after reinstalling.
7. Restore licenses when access or entitlement looks wrong
PlayStation also lists restoring licenses as a troubleshooting option. Use it when the console appears unable to recognize access associated with your account, then test the service again. Restoring licenses is different from deleting the app: it addresses account-linked content recognition rather than replacing the app files.
8. Use Safe Mode maintenance only when the earlier steps fail
PlayStation lists clearing the cache and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode among further troubleshooting measures. Follow the current on-screen Safe Mode instructions carefully and choose only the maintenance operation you understand. These steps are more advanced than a normal restart or reinstall; they are not a guarantee for a provider-side outage or an account problem.
Because each service controls its own authentication and playback system, no single step fixes every failure. If the PS5 network test passes, the app is current, and other services work while one service still fails, use that provider’s support instructions for account or service-specific diagnosis.
Parental controls and anime profiles
Do not assume that a restriction set on the PS5 automatically filters every streaming catalog. PlayStation warns that parental-control restrictions may not apply to content inside streaming apps and directs families to check the individual service for age-restricted-content controls.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Set the PS5 restrictions appropriate for the child’s console account.
- Open each streaming provider’s account or profile settings and review its age, maturity, or content controls.
- Check every profile that can be selected in the app; a restriction on one profile may not change another profile’s catalog.
- Recheck the provider’s controls after an app update or account change, because those settings are managed separately from the PS5 system menus.
This two-layer approach matters because the PS5 can control console features while the app controls what its own catalog displays and plays.

A Media Remote is optional. The setup and troubleshooting instructions work with the DualSense controller, and PlayStation confirms that both DualSense and Media Remote can be used with Live TV on PS5. Buy or use a remote only for convenience when the PS5 is regularly used as a media player; it is not required to install an anime app or sign in.
Common questions
How do I download streaming apps on my PS5 console?
Open Media > All Apps, choose an app listed for your console, and select Download. After installation, open TV & Video and follow the service’s prompts.
Where is an app I already installed?
Open App Library if it is not shown among recently used apps on the Media home. Recent items are a shortcut row, not a complete inventory.

Can I watch anime for free on PS5?
PlayStation describes Live TV on PS5 as offering free live channels and on-demand content that includes anime. It requires PlayStation account access and Sony Pictures CORE account creation or linking, and its lineup and eligibility can change.
Why does an app open but refuse to play a title?
Confirm the service account or entitlement, check the provider’s current catalog for your region, test the PS5 connection, and follow the provider’s playback support steps. A title being visible in another market does not guarantee access in yours.
Will PS5 parental controls block all anime content?
No. PlayStation warns that console restrictions may not apply inside streaming apps. Set age or maturity controls in each provider’s account and review every profile that can be used.
Recommended Free Tools
Do I need the PS5 Media Remote?
No. DualSense controls the setup and playback. The Media Remote is an optional convenience, including for Live TV on PS5.
What should I do if the streaming service will not start?
Check PlayStation service status, update the app and PS5 system software, run Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection, restart, and reinstall. If needed, restore licenses, then consider Safe Mode cache clearing or database rebuilding. Contact the provider when the problem is limited to its account or service.
