To use iCloud+ features, subscribe to an iCloud+ tier—or join a Family Sharing group that already has one—then open your iCloud settings on each device. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud. On Mac, use System Settings > [your name] > iCloud. From there you can enable Private Relay, create Hide My Email addresses, configure a custom email domain, and turn on HomeKit Secure Video. Each feature has different requirements, and availability, labels, and prices can vary by country and operating-system version.
What iCloud+ adds to your Apple account
iCloud+ is Apple’s paid iCloud service. It combines additional storage for photos, files, device backups and other iCloud data with privacy and smart-home features that are not part of the basic free allowance. You can use the service on an iPhone, iPad, Mac and at iCloud.com while signed in to the same Apple Account.
You do not need a separate subscription for every device. One iCloud+ subscription follows the Apple Account that owns it. A Family Sharing organizer can also share the subscription with up to five other family members after they accept the invitation.
Check these prerequisites first
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on the devices where you want to use the features.
- Have an active iCloud+ subscription, either your own or one shared through Family Sharing.
- Install an operating-system version that supports the feature and use the current labels shown in Settings or System Settings.
- For Custom Email Domain, have a domain you own (or be prepared to purchase one through Apple’s setup flow) and a primary iCloud Mail address.
- For HomeKit Secure Video, have a compatible HomeKit-enabled camera and a home hub such as a HomePod, Apple TV or iPad.
Choose an iCloud+ storage tier
Apple lists five iCloud+ storage tiers. The subscription is billed monthly, but the amount shown depends on your country or region. Because Apple can change local prices and plan presentation, use the plan screen on your device as the authoritative price.

Your storage decision should start with the amount used by iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, backups and family members, not with the camera allowance alone. If you already receive iCloud storage through an Apple bundle, check which service is supplying the storage before buying another plan.
Subscribe, change, or share your plan
Subscribe or change a plan on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap the storage or plan control displayed near the top of the iCloud screen. The exact wording can differ by operating-system version.
- Choose an iCloud+ tier and confirm the monthly purchase through Apple’s billing sheet.
The same screen lets an existing subscriber move to a different tier. Read the storage amount and local monthly price shown there before confirming.
Subscribe or change a plan on Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Click your name, then click iCloud.
- Open the storage or plan controls shown beside your iCloud usage.
- Select the desired tier and complete the on-screen confirmation.
Share iCloud+ with family
Set up Family Sharing from your Apple Account settings, invite family members, and have them accept. Once sharing is active, eligible members can use the shared iCloud+ storage and premium features with their own Apple Accounts. They do not need to share personal photos, files or email with one another merely because the storage plan is shared.

Turn on iCloud Private Relay
Private Relay is an iCloud+ privacy feature for browsing in Safari and protecting unencrypted traffic. It is not a universal VPN replacement: Apple’s documentation describes it around Safari browsing, and some websites may require an additional sign-in or access step when your IP address is hidden. The feature is not available in every region.
Enable Private Relay on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name, then tap iCloud.
- Tap Private Relay.
- Turn on the Private Relay switch and authenticate if prompted.
- If offered, choose the location preference on the same screen. The less precise option preserves broader regional location while hiding your exact IP address.
Enable Private Relay on Mac
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings.
- Click your name, then iCloud.
- Click Private Relay.
- Turn it on and select the available location preference.
If a website stops working
- Look for the site’s requested sign-in, verification or access step; a hidden IP address can trigger a security check.
- Confirm that Private Relay is supported in your current country or region.
- Temporarily turn Private Relay off from the same iCloud screen only when you need to diagnose a site-specific problem, then turn it back on afterward.
Create and manage Hide My Email addresses
Hide My Email generates unique, random email addresses. Messages sent to one of those addresses forward to your personal inbox, so you can give a service an address that does not reveal your main one. You can later disable or manage the address from iCloud settings.
Use Hide My Email on iPhone or iPad
- In Safari, tap an email field and choose Hide My Email above the keyboard.
- In Mail, start composing a message, tap the From field, and choose a Hide My Email address.
- In a supported third-party app, tap its email field and select Hide My Email when the option appears above the keyboard.
- On iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, qualifying Apple Pay contact sheets may also offer Hide My Email during checkout.
- Accept the generated address, add a label if requested, and finish the form or message. Incoming mail will forward to the personal inbox associated with your Apple Account.
Use Hide My Email on Mac
- In Safari, click an email field and select Hide My Email when offered.
- In Mail, open the From menu while composing and choose a Hide My Email address.
- On macOS 14 or later, qualifying Apple Pay contact sheets can offer the feature during payment.
View, disable, or manage addresses
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Hide My Email. On macOS 13 or later, open System Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Hide My Email. These screens show the addresses you have created and provide the controls for managing them.

If the option is missing, check that the device is signed in to the same Apple Account that owns or receives the iCloud+ subscription. Some entry points depend on the operating-system version and on whether the app supports the feature; an arbitrary email field will not necessarily display it.

Custom Email Domain lets you send and receive iCloud Mail using a domain you own. It requires an iCloud+ subscription (including one received through Family Sharing) and a primary iCloud Mail address. The feature is not available in every region.
Start on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
- Tap Custom Email Domain.
- Follow the prompts to choose a domain you already own or begin Apple’s domain-purchase flow.
- Complete the ownership and mail-setup steps Apple displays, then create the requested custom addresses.
- Make sure iCloud Mail is enabled on each device where you want to send and receive messages.
Start on the web
You can also begin at iCloud.com/icloudplus and follow the Custom Email Domain setup prompts. After configuration, use the custom address in iCloud Mail on supported devices and at iCloud.com.

Why the feature may not appear
- Your Apple Account does not have an iCloud+ subscription or shared access.
- You have not created a primary iCloud Mail address.
- The service is not offered in your region.
- The domain-ownership or mail setup has not been completed in the sequence shown by Apple.
Set up HomeKit Secure Video
HomeKit Secure Video records and analyzes compatible security-camera footage through the Home app and iCloud+. The subscription alone does not make a camera compatible. You need all three components: an eligible iCloud+ tier, a HomeKit-enabled camera and a configured home hub.
Prepare the home
- Use a camera that explicitly supports HomeKit Secure Video or the required HomeKit camera functions.
- Set up a home hub. Apple lists HomePod, Apple TV and iPad as hub examples; the exact hub requirements can depend on your software version and home configuration.
- Sign in to the iPhone or iPad that manages the home with the Apple Account connected to iCloud+.
Turn on Home in iCloud
- On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
- Tap Show All if the full list of iCloud apps is not visible.
- Turn on Home.
- Open the Home app and add the compatible camera.
- Complete the camera’s HomeKit pairing and choose the recording or notification settings offered by the Home app.

If a camera cannot be added, verify compatibility first, then check that Home is enabled in iCloud and that a home hub is online. Increasing storage will not solve a camera that lacks HomeKit support or a home without a functioning hub.

After enabling a feature, allow time for the account settings to appear on your other Apple devices. Each device must be signed in to the intended Apple Account, and some services—especially iCloud Mail, Home and Hide My Email—also require their individual iCloud switches to be enabled.

When a feature is missing from Settings
- Confirm the subscription owner and Apple Account shown at the top of Settings or System Settings.
- Open the iCloud page and reveal the full app list with Show All when that control is present.
- Check the device’s operating-system version against the feature’s supported entry point.
- Check regional availability; Apple does not offer every iCloud+ feature everywhere.
- Sign out of neither device nor account as a first troubleshooting step. First restart the device and reopen the iCloud settings page so the current entitlement can refresh.
When storage or sharing looks wrong
- Review the storage plan screen on the account that purchased iCloud+; a family member may be viewing their own storage details rather than the organizer’s plan.
- Ask invited family members to accept the Family Sharing invitation. Sharing does not begin for a member who has not accepted.
- Check whether another Apple service or bundle is supplying the visible storage before changing plans.
Cancel or downgrade carefully
Canceling iCloud+ or moving to a lower tier removes access to the additional storage and premium iCloud+ features. Before confirming a change, review which devices, family members and features depend on the paid plan. If you use Custom Email Domain, Private Relay, Hide My Email or HomeKit Secure Video, plan for the loss of that feature when the change takes effect.
Use the subscription-management controls in your Apple Account settings to make the change, and read the confirmation screen for the effective date and local terms. Apple’s displayed information is the source for the exact timing and price in your region.

There is no single best tier without knowing your country, current storage use, camera count, family setup and any existing Apple bundle. Compare those factors with the plan and price displayed in your own Apple Account.
