“Fully automatic” is not one universal SodaStream setup. Check the name printed on your machine first: the E‑TERRA uses a powered base, a Quick Connect cylinder and a Snap-Lock bottle holder, while the E‑DUO uses a locking carbonating flask for a glass carafe or compatible bottle. The correct cylinder, vessel, loading method and controls depend on that model. The steps below follow SodaStream’s US support guidance; configurations and manuals can differ by country, so use the manual for your exact machine and market.
Identify your machine before connecting anything
Look for the model name on the front, rear or rating label. Do not assume that a SodaStream-branded cylinder or bottle fits every machine. SodaStream separates compatibility into Quick Connect and screw-in systems, and the model’s manual determines which one you need.
E‑TERRA
The E‑TERRA is the model with the powered adapter, Quick Connect cylinder and Snap-Lock bottle connection. Its electronic controls select carbonation intensity, and indicator lights show when carbonation is in progress or complete.

The E‑DUO uses a carbonating flask that lifts and locks with a lever. It accepts a compatible glass carafe or bottle. Its vessel-loading procedure is different from the E‑TERRA’s Snap-Lock procedure, so do not substitute one model’s steps for the other.

Regional instructions matter
The official instructions used here are US SodaStream support pages. Electrical plugs, supplied adapters, cylinder systems, bottle ranges and labeling may differ elsewhere. If your machine’s label or local manual conflicts with a step here, follow the local manual.
What to have ready
- The machine identified by model name.
- The cylinder type specified for that model. E‑TERRA instructions call for a Quick Connect cylinder; do not infer compatibility from the brand name alone.
- The bottle, glass carafe or other vessel listed as compatible for your model.
- Cold drinking water and access to the marked fill line.
- For E‑TERRA, the supplied power adapter and the pronged plug that fits your local outlet.
Carbonate plain water first. Do not add syrup, juice, flavor drops or any other liquid before carbonation. Flavoring is added only after the vessel has been removed safely.
Safety rules that apply to both models
- Water only: SodaStream support warns, “Do not carbonate anything other than water. Other liquids can contaminate and clog internal parts, potentially resulting in excessive pressure, bottle failure during carbonation and serious injury.”
- Fill only to the vessel’s marked line. Overfilling leaves too little headspace for carbonation.
- Keep the maker upright on a flat, sturdy surface while loading and operating it.
- Never force a vessel out while it is pressurized. Let the machine release excess carbon dioxide first.
- Do not operate an E‑TERRA with a broken carbonating tube. Do not pull on the tube while loading or removing a bottle.
- Keep hands and face clear of the vessel while pressure is being released.
How to set up and use the E‑TERRA
1. Connect the adapter and cylinder
- Choose the pronged plug that fits your local outlet and connect it to the E‑TERRA power adapter.
- Route the adapter cord through the slot in the machine base. Routing it through the slot keeps the machine stable and prevents the cord from interfering with the base.
- Install the cylinder using the E‑TERRA’s Quick Connect system. Use only the cylinder type listed for your exact model.
- Place the maker upright on a flat, sturdy surface, then plug the adapter into the outlet. The machine lights briefly when it receives power.
2. Prepare the bottle
- Confirm that the bottle is an E‑TERRA-compatible model.
- Fill it with cold drinking water to the printed fill line. Leave the bottle unflavored at this stage.
- Inspect the carbonating tube before loading. If it is broken, do not use the machine.
3. Lock the bottle into the Snap-Lock
- Angle the bottle rest forward.
- Insert the bottle neck into the Snap-Lock opening.
- Push the bottle upward and backward until the holder grips it. The bottle should be held securely without pulling on the carbonating tube.
4. Select the carbonation level
The buttons correspond to different levels depending on bottle size:

| Bottle size | Button choices | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L | One bubble | Light fizz |
| 1 L | Two bubbles | Medium fizz |
| 1 L | Three bubbles | Strong fizz |
| 0.5 L | Left button | Medium fizz |
| 0.5 L | Middle button | Strong fizz |
The selected light flashes slowly while the machine is carbonating and flashes quickly when the cycle is complete. Pressing any button stops carbonation, so you can end a cycle early if the result is already where you want it.
5. Release pressure before removing the bottle
- When carbonation is complete, pull the bottle gently forward only enough to begin releasing pressure.
- Wait for the audible sound of excess carbon dioxide escaping.
- Allow the Snap-Lock to release the bottle. Do not force it out while the bottle is still pressurized.
- Remove the bottle and add flavor, if wanted.
How to set up and use the E‑DUO
1. Prepare the carafe or bottle
- Verify that the glass carafe or bottle is listed as compatible with your E‑DUO.
- Fill it with cold drinking water to its marked fill line.
- Keep the water unflavored until carbonation is finished.
- Set the E‑DUO upright on a flat, sturdy surface.
2. Open the carbonating flask
- Turn the flask lever to the right to unlock it. The head rises.
- Tilt the flask forward.
- Insert the compatible glass carafe or bottle into the flask.
- Return the flask to its upright position.
- Push the head down and turn the lever to the left to lock it.
3. Choose a fizz level
Press the button for light, medium or strong carbonation. Any button stops the carbonation cycle. A gas-release sound during carbonation can be normal; do not try to remove the vessel in response to that sound.
4. Unlock only after the cycle
- After the desired carbonation level has been reached, wait three seconds.
- Turn the lever to the right to unlock the flask.
- Let excess gas escape as the head rises.
- Tilt the flask forward and remove the carafe or bottle.
- Add flavor only after the vessel is out of the machine and pressure has been released.
E‑TERRA and E‑DUO: practical differences
Both machines automate the carbonation cycle, but the physical setup is not interchangeable.

Once the bottle or carafe is safely out of the machine and pressure has been released, add the flavoring you want. Pour or add it carefully because carbonation can cause foaming. Keep the vessel upright while mixing and serving. Never place flavored liquid back into the machine for another carbonation cycle.
If you want a different strength next time, change the carbonation button rather than adding flavor before carbonation. On an E‑TERRA, remember that the available button mapping changes with bottle size; on an E‑DUO, the three buttons represent light, medium and strong.

Cleaning the machine and drip tray
Machine body
- Do not immerse the maker in water.
- Do not put the maker in a dishwasher.
- Wipe the exterior with a soft, non-abrasive method.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp tools that could damage the housing or components.
Drip tray
Remove the drip tray when it needs cleaning, wipe away spills and keep the machine base dry. SodaStream states that the drip tray is dishwasher-safe. Let it dry before replacing it.
What to do after a spill
- Stop using the machine and remove the vessel if it can be done without force or while pressurized.
- Wipe liquid from the tray and base using a non-abrasive cloth.
- Do not pour water into the machine or rinse the maker under a tap.
- Resume operation only when the base and surrounding area are dry.
Care and replacement rules for bottles and carafes
Read the care markings on each individual vessel; bottle materials and models have different limits.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Read the model name on the machine.
- Check whether the manual specifies Quick Connect or a screw-in cylinder system.
- Confirm that the bottle or carafe is listed for that model.
- Check the vessel’s fill line, care label and expiry marking.
- If the machine, cylinder or vessel came from another region, verify the local manual rather than relying on a US instruction sheet.
If any of these checks fail, stop and obtain the model-specific instructions. Do not force a cylinder into a connector or a bottle into a holder.
Troubleshooting without creating a pressure hazard
The E‑TERRA does not light when connected
- Confirm that the correct local plug is attached to the supplied adapter.
- Check that the cord is routed through the base slot and that the adapter is firmly connected to the outlet.
- Do not continue if the cord, adapter or carbonating tube is damaged.
- If the machine still does not respond, use the manual or local SodaStream support for the exact model and market rather than substituting another adapter.
The bottle will not come out of an E‑TERRA
Do not pull hard. The bottle may still be pressurized. Pull it gently forward only as instructed, wait for the audible excess-gas release, and let Snap-Lock release it. If it remains locked, do not use tools or pull on the tube; consult the model’s support instructions.
The E‑DUO head will not open
Wait until the carbonation cycle has ended, then wait the specified three seconds. Turn the lever right to unlock and allow the head to rise as gas escapes. Never force the lever or tilt the flask while it is still locked.
Carbonation is weaker or stronger than expected
- Check that the water was cold and filled only to the marked line.
- Confirm that you selected the intended button for the vessel size. The E‑TERRA’s 0.5 L and 1 L mappings differ.
- Make sure flavoring was added after carbonation, not before.
- Do not repeat a cycle with a flavored liquid.
A gas-release sound is heard on an E‑DUO
SodaStream’s E‑DUO guidance says a gas-release sound during carbonation can be normal. Keep the vessel locked until the cycle is complete, then follow the three-second wait and controlled unlocking procedure.
The carbonating tube is damaged
Stop using an E‑TERRA with a broken tube. Do not pull, bend or attempt to repair it yourself. Follow the model-specific service guidance before operating the machine again.
