Truckful is available through Steam and can be installed directly on a Steam Deck. Steam currently labels its Deck compatibility as Unknown: Valve has not completed or published a compatibility review, but that label is not a failure verdict. Install the game normally, try Steam’s default compatibility configuration, and use current patch notes and compatibility details if anything goes wrong.

The developer, MythicOwl, says it has tested the game extensively on Steam Deck and observed a steady 60 frames per second on high settings through most of the game. That is a developer-reported result—not a Valve Verified rating, independent benchmark, or guaranteed frame rate—so the practical setup is to install first and then judge performance on your own Deck.

What you need before installing

This guide assumes you already own a Steam Deck and have access to the Steam account that owns Truckful. You do not need a new Deck, controller, or accessory just to follow the setup. Prepare the following:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A working Wi-Fi or wired internet connection for the download, shader data, patches, and first launch.
  • At least the game’s listed 2 GB of free storage. Treat that as the published minimum, not a comfortable reserve; leave additional room for updates and Steam shader data.
  • A current SteamOS installation and enough battery or access to a charger for installation and initial troubleshooting.
  • The latest information on the game’s Steam store page and official developer announcements if you are diagnosing a problem, because compatibility labels and patches can change.

The Steam listing includes SteamOS + Linux requirements, which is useful context for a Deck installation. Those requirements are platform specifications, not a separate guarantee for every Steam Deck model or SteamOS release.

Release and store-listing context

The Steam listing gives Truckful a release date of October 9, 2026. That date, the Linux requirements, the storage figure, and the Deck badge all come from the store listing and may be revised as Valve or the developer updates the page. The game is therefore a normal Steam purchase and installation rather than a separate Deck-only package.

Because the title is newly released in this context, the most useful habit is to check the listing again when you install. A compatibility badge can change after Valve reviews the game, while a developer patch can alter controls, menus, softlocks, or frame pacing without changing the published minimum requirements.

Understand the Steam Deck compatibility status

Steam currently shows Truckful with a Deck compatibility status of Unknown. Valve uses this status when a game has not gone through its compatibility review. It means that Valve has not published a completed assessment of controller input, display legibility, seamlessness, or system support; it does not mean Valve has confirmed that the game fails to run.

Valve’s compatibility information is an ongoing review. A rating or its details can change as the game, SteamOS, Deck features, or control support are updated. For this title, do not convert the studio’s performance statement into a Verified, Playable, or Unsupported category. The only official Deck badge presently described here is Unknown.

Evidence What it tells you What it does not establish
Steam Deck badge: Unknown Valve has not published a completed compatibility review. It does not prove that the game will fail to launch or that controls are unusable.
SteamOS + Linux requirements on the store page The store provides a Linux-oriented requirements listing for installation context. It is not a per-model Steam Deck performance guarantee.
MythicOwl’s Deck testing statement The developer reports extensive testing and steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game. It is not an independent measurement, Valve rating, or guaranteed result on your hardware.

Install Truckful from Steam

The normal Steam installation path is the correct first attempt. There is no documented requirement to force a particular Proton version before launching.

  1. Press the Steam button and open Library.
  2. Find Truckful in your library. Open its store or library page if it is not already installed.
  3. Select Install. Choose the internal drive or an installed microSD card with sufficient free space.
  4. Confirm the download and wait for Steam to finish both the game files and any associated shader-processing work.
  5. After installation, open the game’s library page and check that Steam reports the install as complete rather than still applying an update.
  6. Start the game with Steam’s default compatibility configuration. Do not begin by forcing a Proton release simply because the Deck badge says Unknown.
  7. Allow the first launch to finish without repeatedly suspending and resuming the Deck. If Steam presents a compatibility or runtime prompt, note it and allow the default process to complete.

The store’s published minimum storage figure is 2 GB. Steam may need more working space while downloading updates or compiling shader data, so an install can fail even when exactly 2 GB appears free. Free additional space before retrying rather than treating the minimum as a recommended reserve.

Complete the first launch

Use the built-in Deck controls first

At the title screen, navigate with the Deck’s built-in controls and verify that the game responds to the expected buttons, sticks, triggers, and menus. The available launch-period information does not document a Truckful-specific control-remapping procedure for Steam Deck, so begin with the standard layout instead of assuming a custom community layout is required.

Know what the launch-period patch changed

An official launch-period patch announcement reported several input and interface changes: PlayStation controller support was added, a double-input bug affecting cargo rotation and skill installation was fixed, mouse control was enabled in the main menu, and UI performance was slightly improved. The same announcement identified softlocks in some areas as a known issue at that point. These notes describe that release period, not a promise that every issue remains or is already fixed in the current build. Check the newest official announcement before applying advice based on them.

When mouse input is useful

If a menu is awkward with the sticks, try the Deck’s trackpads or touchscreen. The patch’s mouse-control change applies to the main menu, but it does not document a universal mouse-driven replacement for every in-game action. Use the built-in controls for play and treat pointer input as a menu fallback rather than a required setup step.

Published hardware and software requirements

The following values come from the Steam listing. Windows figures are included because they clarify the game’s published baseline; they are not a substitute for a Deck-specific review.

Platform Processor Memory Graphics API Storage
Windows minimum Not stated in the listing summary 4 GB RAM 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer DirectX 10 2 GB available
SteamOS + Linux minimum 64-bit processor at 2.4 GHz 4 GB RAM 2 GB VRAM; GeForce 900 series or newer Not stated 2 GB available
Windows recommended Not stated in the listing summary 8 GB RAM 3 GB VRAM; GeForce GTX 1060 or newer DirectX 12 3 GB storage

The Linux row confirms that the store publishes a Linux target, while the Deck badge remains Unknown. Do not read the 2.4 GHz processor figure as a claim that every Deck configuration will behave identically, and do not treat the Windows recommended figures as a Deck preset. They are the developer’s store-listed platform requirements.

What performance can you reasonably expect?

The developer’s reported result

MythicOwl says it has tested Truckful extensively on Steam Deck since the project’s announcement in 2024 and showcased demos at PAX East and PAX West. The studio reports that the game maintained a steady 60 fps on high settings throughout most of the game. It also says that 30 fps with high details should be achievable on the lower-end devices described by its requirements.

Those statements are useful evidence that the developers are targeting Deck play, but they remain statements from the developer. No independent benchmark, named statistical study, or hands-on measurement is established here. Your result can differ with the Deck model, SteamOS version, game build, scene, display settings, background activity, and later patches.

How to evaluate your own Deck

  1. Launch a saved game or begin a new session and play through more than the opening menu. A menu that runs smoothly does not establish how a busy driving or cargo scene performs.
  2. Observe frame pacing and control responsiveness while driving, rotating cargo, installing skills, and entering areas that load new content.
  3. Repeat the check after a game update or SteamOS update. A patch can change performance, input behavior, or compatibility details.
  4. If high settings do not feel smooth, lower the game’s own quality options one step at a time and reassess. Keep a note of which change helped so you can restore a preferred balance later.

A reported 60 fps through most of the game should not be read as a promise of an uninterrupted 60 fps in every location, cutscene, loading transition, or future build. Likewise, the studio’s “should” wording for 30 fps on lower-end devices signals an expectation, not a measured guarantee.

A simple first-session test

For a repeatable check, use the same short route or gameplay sequence each time. Test one ordinary driving section, one area transition, a cargo-rotation action, and skill installation. Note whether the issue is a low frame rate, uneven frame pacing, delayed input, a menu problem, or a complete lockup. This separates a performance complaint from a control or loading fault and gives you a useful comparison after a patch.

Change only one graphics option at a time if you decide to tune the game. That makes it clear which adjustment affected smoothness. The published material does not specify a Deck graphics preset, resolution target, frame-rate cap, or thermal setting, so avoid presenting a particular combination as an official requirement.

Use the default compatibility configuration first

The available guidance does not establish that owners must force a particular Proton release. Start with Steam’s default configuration and only investigate compatibility settings after you have identified a reproducible launch or behavior problem.

If the game will not launch

  1. Close Truckful completely and restart the Deck.
  2. Confirm that Steam has finished downloading updates and shader data.
  3. Open the game’s Steam page and read the current compatibility details shown for your device.
  4. Check the newest official patch announcement for a known launch issue or required fix.
  5. Retry the default launch before changing Proton versions. The reviewed information does not prescribe a Truckful-specific Proton override.

Record the game build and Deck software state before reporting the issue. Include whether the failure occurs before the title screen, during loading, or after selecting a save; that distinction makes later troubleshooting more useful.

If controls do not respond correctly

  • Verify that Steam recognizes the Deck’s controls outside the game, then restart the game.
  • Test the standard layout at the title screen before importing a custom layout.
  • Pay special attention to cargo rotation and skill installation, since the launch-period patch specifically addressed a double-input bug in those actions.
  • If you use a mouse or trackpad in the main menu, switch back to the normal control layout when testing in-game actions.
  • Write down the exact action, button, and game build if the problem persists, then compare it with the latest patch notes.

If a menu is slow or hard to read

The launch-period notes reported a slight UI-performance improvement and added mouse control in the main menu. Make sure the game is fully updated before judging that behavior. If text or interface elements remain difficult to read, document where it occurs and whether it is limited to a particular menu; Valve’s compatibility review considers display legibility, but this title’s current badge does not provide a completed assessment.

If you encounter a softlock

Softlocks in some areas were listed as a known issue in the launch-period announcement. First try restarting the game and loading an earlier save if one is available. Then check for a newer official patch before changing compatibility settings. A workaround that was sensible during launch may be obsolete or inappropriate after later updates.

How to weigh the available compatibility evidence

When different signals seem to conflict, rank them by what they actually measure and how recently they were updated:

Question Best evidence to check Reason
Has Valve reviewed the game? The current Steam Deck compatibility badge and its details Only Valve’s review determines the official category.
Does the studio target Deck performance? MythicOwl’s developer announcement It records the studio’s testing and stated expectations, not an independent test.
What does the game require? The current Steam store requirements These are the published platform minimums and recommendations.
Was a known issue fixed? The newest official patch notes Launch-period notes can become outdated after subsequent builds.

This approach avoids two common mistakes: treating Unknown as Unsupported, and treating a developer’s 60-fps statement as a guarantee. Neither conclusion follows from the evidence currently listed for Truckful.

Keep the installation maintainable

Check updates before changing settings

When a problem appears, note the game version, SteamOS version, Deck model, location in the game, and the steps that reproduce it. Then check the current Steam compatibility information and the newest official developer notes. This order prevents you from carrying an old workaround into a build that already contains a fix.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Leave update headroom

Do not fill the selected drive to the last 2 GB after installation. The store’s number is a minimum available-storage requirement, and Steam can need temporary room for updates and shader data. If an update fails, remove unrelated files or move another game first, then retry the update rather than deleting Truckful immediately.

Valve Steam Deck 1TB Upgraded Handheld Gaming Console with Carring case, 1280 x 800 OLED Display Silicone Soft Cover Protector & Joystic Cap & Tempered Glass Film Bundle
  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

Re-test after major changes

Recheck launch, controls, and a representative gameplay scene after a SteamOS update, a major game patch, or moving the installation between drives. Compatibility is an ongoing process, so behavior can improve or regress without changing the underlying store requirements.

Do you need to buy anything else?

No additional hardware is identified as necessary for this setup. The built-in Deck controls are the first input method to test, and the game installs through the Steam account that owns it. A microSD card is simply an optional storage location if you already use one; the published information does not require a particular card, controller, dock, headset, or new Deck model. Keep the focus on free space, software updates, and the game’s current configuration rather than purchasing an accessory to compensate for an Unknown badge.

A practical setup checklist

  • Confirm that Truckful is owned on the Steam account in use.
  • Have more than the listed 2 GB free on the target drive.
  • Install from Library using the normal Steam workflow.
  • Launch with Steam’s default compatibility configuration.
  • Test built-in controls, including cargo rotation and skill installation.
  • Play beyond the title screen before evaluating performance.
  • Use the developer’s 60-fps statement as context, not as a guarantee.
  • Record the build and Deck software state if a failure occurs.
  • Check current Steam compatibility details and official patch notes before forcing a workaround.

Bottom line for Deck owners

Truckful has a direct Steam installation path and published SteamOS + Linux requirements, and its developer reports extensive Deck testing. The responsible expectation is still conditional: Steam has not completed a compatibility review for the game, and the performance figure comes from MythicOwl rather than an independent test. Install normally, test the controls and representative gameplay on your own Deck, keep storage headroom, and use current update information to guide any troubleshooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Unknown mean for Truckful on Steam Deck?

Valve uses Unknown when it has not published a completed compatibility review. It does not confirm that Truckful fails to launch, has unusable controls, or belongs in an Unsupported category.

Do I need to force a Proton version?

No specific Proton override is established for Truckful. Start with Steam’s default compatibility configuration, then check current compatibility details and official patch notes if a reproducible problem appears.

How much storage should I reserve?

The Steam listing gives 2 GB as the available-storage minimum. Reserve more than that because Steam may need temporary space for updates and shader data.

Is 60 fps guaranteed on Steam Deck?

No. MythicOwl reports steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game, but that is a developer statement rather than an independent benchmark or guarantee for every Deck, scene, or future build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I test after installation?

Use the built-in controls at the title screen, then play beyond the menus. Test driving, a loading transition, cargo rotation, and skill installation so you can distinguish performance, input, and loading problems.

What should I do if I encounter a softlock or double input?

Restart the game, try an earlier save if available, and check the newest official patch notes. A launch-period announcement listed softlocks in some areas and reported a fix for double input affecting cargo rotation and skill installation; later builds may have changed that behavior.

The Bottom Line

Install Truckful from Steam with the default configuration, keep more than 2 GB free, and test real gameplay rather than relying on the Unknown badge or a developer-reported frame rate. Recheck Valve’s compatibility details and MythicOwl’s latest patches whenever the game changes.
