If by “Shadow Collection” you mean Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection, the setup depends on your platform. The boxed Collection is a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release. PC users should install the separate Steam release, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition, rather than expect the console disc to run on a computer. The original game is packaged in the console set; several extras were distributed by voucher code and may not be usable in a second-hand copy.
First, identify which “Shadow Collection” you have
The wording “Shadow Collection” is ambiguous. This guide uses the official product identification Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection. Konami lists that Collection for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Setting up the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 Collection
1. Confirm the platform and disc before buying
Check the case, disc label and seller description for the exact console version. A PlayStation 3 disc is not an Xbox 360 disc, and neither is a Windows installer. Ask the seller to identify the platform if the listing uses only “Shadow Collection” without the full title.
Also confirm region and compatibility details with the seller or the platform documentation. The official product information establishes the intended PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, but it does not document modern backward compatibility on newer consoles. If you plan to use a later console, do not treat the old disc as automatically supported; verify that specific hardware separately.
2. Inspect a used copy for the voucher material
Konami’s North and South American announcement describes the original Lords of Shadow as the packaged portion of the Collection. It says that Mirror of Fate HD, a Lords of Shadow 2 demo and the Reverie/Resurrection downloadable content were supplied through exclusive digital voucher code(s).

For a used copy, ask whether the code card is present and whether its code is unused. Do not pay a premium on the assumption that a printed code will work: these sources do not establish present-day redemption status. A code can be missing, already redeemed, restricted to a particular region, or no longer accepted by the platform service. Treat the disc and the voucher content as separate parts of the purchase.
3. Start the console installation
- Connect the appropriate PS3 or Xbox 360 to the display and network you intend to use.
- Insert the Collection disc into the matching console.
- Follow the console’s on-screen prompts to install or launch the packaged game. The available prompts can vary with system software and account state, so use the instructions shown by the console rather than an old generic walkthrough.
- If you have an unused voucher, open the platform’s code-redemption screen, enter the code exactly as printed and read the confirmation before downloading any extra item.
- Launch the game from the console’s game menu and confirm that the packaged title starts before troubleshooting optional downloads.
Keep the disc available when the console requests it. A successful download of bonus content does not necessarily replace the physical disc’s role in starting the packaged game.
4. Redeem extras cautiously
Redeem a voucher only on the account and region you intend to use. Confirm the item name and platform before accepting the transaction. If the platform rejects the code, save the exact error message, check that you selected the correct console store and contact the seller or platform support. The available evidence does not support a promise that old Collection codes remain active, so a rejection is not proof that the disc itself is defective.
Setting up the PC version through Steam
Use the separate Ultimate Edition
PC players should search Steam for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition. This is a separate product from the PS3/Xbox 360 Collection. The Steam listing describes the full game with the Reverie and Resurrection bonus content. It does not turn the console disc into a PC license, so owning the boxed Collection does not by itself provide a Windows installation method.

Steam lists the following minimum and recommended specifications. They are the publisher’s listed requirements, not an independent modern performance test or a guarantee that every current Windows configuration will behave identically.

There is an important date distinction in the listing. Steam says its client supports Windows 10 and later beginning January 1, 2024. That client statement is separate from the game’s legacy minimum operating-system line. A computer may appear to exceed the game’s old requirement while still needing a currently supported Steam client and operating system. Check Steam’s current client requirements on the machine you will use.
Install and launch in Steam
- Install the Steam client on a supported Windows system and sign in to the account that owns the game.
- Open the Library, select Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition and choose the install command.
- Select a library location with at least the listed 15 GB of free storage. Leave additional room for the operating system, Steam files and any updates.
- Allow Steam to complete the download and installation. If Steam reports insufficient space, free storage or select another library drive before retrying.

What is actually included, and what is not guaranteed
Console Collection contents
The physical Collection’s secure baseline is the original Lords of Shadow on the disc. The announced bonus items were supplied through voucher code(s): Mirror of Fate HD, a Lords of Shadow 2 demo and the Reverie/Resurrection DLC. Because those items depended on redemption, a sealed copy and a used copy are not equivalent for practical purposes.
Before purchasing second-hand, ask three specific questions: Is the voucher card included? Has the code been redeemed? Does the seller know which region the code belongs to? If any answer is unknown, value the purchase as the disc-based game only.
PC Ultimate Edition contents
The Steam listing identifies the PC product as an Ultimate Edition with the full game and Reverie/Resurrection bonus content. It is not evidence that the PC edition includes the console Collection’s voucher-delivered Mirror of Fate HD or the Lords of Shadow 2 demo. Do not promise yourself those items unless the current Steam listing for your account explicitly names them.

Common setup problems and the safest response
“I bought the Collection, but my PC cannot install it.”
That is normally a platform mismatch, not an installation failure. The Collection is listed for PS3 and Xbox 360. On Windows, look for the separate Steam Ultimate Edition instead of inserting the console disc into a computer.

“The used disc works, but the extra content is missing.”
Check the case for the voucher card and ask whether its code was redeemed. The bonus items were distributed digitally, so the disc can function even when a code is absent or unusable. Present-day redemption is not established by the available product information.
“My modern console does not recognize the disc.”
The product information identifies PS3 and Xbox 360, but it does not document backward compatibility on newer consoles. Verify support for your exact console model with the platform documentation. Do not infer compatibility from the fact that another older title works.
“Steam says my system is too old, although the game lists Windows XP.”
The game’s minimum operating system is a legacy specification. Steam separately states that its client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. The client requirement can therefore prevent installation or use even when the computer resembles the game’s historical minimum.
“The game launches, but my controller is not recognized.”
Use an XInput-compatible joypad, connect it before launching, verify that Steam detects it and check the game’s control menu. The listing does not guarantee support for every third-party controller or adapter.
“The game runs, but performance is poor.”
First compare the computer with Steam’s published processor, memory, graphics, DirectX and storage requirements. Those figures are minimum and recommended targets from the listing, not a present-day benchmark. If the system meets only the minimum, reduce expectations and use the game’s available display settings before assuming the installation is corrupt.

- Choose the PS3/Xbox 360 Collection if you have the matching console and want the physical release.
- Choose the Steam Ultimate Edition if you want to play on Windows without relying on a console disc.
- For a used Collection, treat voucher content as uncertain until redemption is confirmed.
- For PC, verify current Steam client support as well as the game’s legacy requirements.

What the original announcement promised
Konami producer and studio head Dave Cox described the release this way: “We think this is an excellent opportunity for newcomers and fans alike to get the full Castlevania: Lords of Shadow experience, engaging with the series in one ultimate compilation.” The practical qualification is that the console compilation’s additional items were tied to voucher redemption, while the PC product is a separately named Ultimate Edition. Understanding that packaging difference is the key to setting up the correct version today.
