To play records through a Bluetooth speaker, first put the speaker into its own Bluetooth pairing mode, then hold the AT-LP60XBT wireless-function button for about two seconds while the devices are within 1 m (3.3 ft). The turntable flashes red and blue while searching and lights blue when pairing succeeds. The pairing window lasts 30 seconds.

You do not need to change the PHONO/LINE switch for Bluetooth. That switch is used for the wired RCA connection. Before pairing, assemble the platter and belt, install the felt mat, connect the AC adapter, and place the turntable on a level surface.

What you need before pairing

The AT-LP60XBT sends audio to a Bluetooth receiver. In this setup, the receiver is normally a Bluetooth-compatible active speaker: a speaker with its own amplifier and Bluetooth audio input. A phone, tablet or computer that only transmits Bluetooth audio is not a substitute for a receiving speaker.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • An assembled Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT turntable with its AC adapter connected.
  • A powered Bluetooth speaker that supports Bluetooth audio reception.
  • The speaker’s instructions, because the button or menu used to enter pairing mode differs by model.
  • A record, with the turntable placed on a stable, level surface.

For a direct wired connection, use powered speakers or another device with an appropriate audio input. Passive speakers cannot be connected directly to the turntable without an amplifier or powered speaker system. Check the labels on the speaker before you start: Bluetooth capability alone is not enough if the product is not designed to receive an audio stream.

Have the speaker close to the turntable for the initial setup even if you intend to place it across the room later. Audio-Technica specifies a maximum pairing distance of 1 m (3.3 ft) for the pairing procedure. Keeping the first attempt short removes distance as a variable when you are checking the indicator lights.

Assemble and prepare the AT-LP60XBT

Bluetooth pairing cannot compensate for a belt or platter that has not been installed correctly. Complete the mechanical setup before troubleshooting wireless audio. A successful Bluetooth connection only proves that the wireless link is established; the platter still has to rotate and the stylus still has to contact the record.

Install the platter and belt

  1. Place the platter on the turntable spindle.
  2. Loop the drive belt around the correct belt path and the motor pulley. The belt’s ribbon is provided to help with installation; use it to position the belt, then remove the ribbon completely.
  3. Put the felt mat on top of the platter.
  4. Connect the supplied AC adapter and set the turntable on a level surface.

If the belt routing is unclear, use the diagrams in Audio-Technica’s playback setup guide. A belt left on the ribbon or routed incorrectly can prevent normal platter rotation even though Bluetooth pairing appears successful. Do not start a record until the platter is seated and the mat is in place.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Level placement is part of setup, not an optional finishing touch. Put the deck on a stable surface rather than moving it while the tonearm is operating. Connect the AC adapter before beginning the pairing sequence so the wireless function and the automatic mechanism have power throughout the test.

Pair the turntable with a Bluetooth speaker

1. Put the speaker into pairing mode

Turn on the speaker and activate its Bluetooth pairing mode using the speaker’s controls. Some speakers use a Bluetooth button; others require selecting Bluetooth from an input button or menu. The speaker’s manual is the authority for this step. Make sure it is ready to accept a new audio source rather than waiting for the turntable to receive music from a phone.

Simply switching the speaker on is not always the same as making it discoverable. If the speaker is already connected to another source, disconnect that source or follow the speaker manufacturer’s procedure for accepting a new device. The AT-LP60XBT cannot force a speaker to abandon an existing connection.

2. Bring the devices close together

Place the speaker within 1 m (3.3 ft) of the turntable while pairing. This is the distance specified in Audio-Technica’s US user manual for the pairing procedure. You can move the speaker farther away after the connection is established, subject to the speaker, regional model and room conditions.

Keep the turntable and speaker in the same open area during the first attempt. A clear, short path makes it easier to distinguish a pairing-mode problem from a range or interference problem. Once the blue connection indication appears, test playback before choosing the speaker’s final location.

3. Start pairing on the AT-LP60XBT

  1. Confirm that the turntable’s AC adapter is connected.
  2. Press and hold the turntable’s wireless-function button for about two seconds.
  3. Watch the wireless indicator. Alternating red and blue flashes mean the turntable is searching for a receiver.
  4. Wait for the indicator to illuminate blue. A blue light indicates that pairing has completed.

The turntable stays in pairing mode for 30 seconds. Audio-Technica’s manual states: “The product stays in the pairing mode for 30 seconds.” If the speaker does not connect within that period, put the speaker back into pairing mode and repeat the turntable sequence. Do not assume that a red-and-blue pattern means the connection is already complete; it means the search is still in progress.

For the complete button sequence and indicator behavior, see the AT-LP60XBT user manual. If your regional manual uses a different illustration or control label, follow the documentation supplied with your unit.

Play a record after pairing

  1. Remove the stylus protector by pulling it horizontally, following the direction shown in the setup documentation. Do not twist the stylus assembly.
  2. Place the record on the platter.
  3. Set the record-size selector to the record’s size.
  4. Set the speed selector to 33-1/3 or 45 RPM, as required by the record.
  5. Press START. The fully automatic mechanism moves the tonearm to the record and begins playback.

When the record finishes, the automatic mechanism returns the tonearm. If the speaker is paired but no sound is heard, check the speaker’s selected input and volume before repeating Bluetooth setup. A blue wireless indicator does not replace the normal record-playing steps: the stylus protector must be off, the correct size and speed must be selected, and START must be pressed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the platter does not rotate, stop and revisit the belt installation rather than repeatedly pairing. Bluetooth status and platter drive are separate parts of the setup. Likewise, if the record starts but the speed is wrong, check the speed selector rather than the wireless connection.

Understand the indicator lights and timing

Turntable indication Meaning What to do
Alternating red and blue flashes The turntable is searching for a Bluetooth receiver. Keep the speaker in pairing mode and within 1 m (3.3 ft). Complete the process within 30 seconds.
Blue illumination Pairing has completed. Start the record and select the speaker’s Bluetooth input if it has multiple inputs.
No successful connection before 30 seconds The pairing window has expired. Re-enter pairing mode on the speaker, then hold the turntable wireless button for about two seconds again.

The 30-second period is a practical limit, not a reason to rush the record setup. Prepare the speaker first, then begin the turntable sequence so the receiver is already listening when the red-and-blue search starts. If you need to read the speaker’s instructions or move equipment, cancel the attempt by returning the speaker to pairing mode and start a fresh cycle.

Why the PHONO/LINE switch does not change Bluetooth pairing

Leave the PHONO/LINE selector alone when using Bluetooth. Audio-Technica’s pairing instructions do not require changing it for the wireless connection. The selector affects the signal on the RCA outputs; it is not a Bluetooth pairing control.

The selector matters for the alternative RCA connection. The AT-LP60XBT has a built-in phono equalizer, so it can provide a line-level signal to powered speakers or another line input. Set the output to match the input on the receiving equipment:

Receiving input PHONO/LINE setting Connection
LINE, AUX or another line-level input LINE Connect the turntable’s RCA cable to the equipment’s line input.
PHONO input on an amplifier or receiver PHONO Connect the RCA cable to the dedicated phono input.

Use the labels on your equipment and the connection table in the official manual. Choosing PHONO for a line input, or LINE for a phono input, can produce an incorrect level or tonal balance. If Bluetooth is your only connection, changing this selector will not make the speaker discover the turntable and is not a remedy for red-and-blue flashing.

Bluetooth versus RCA: which connection should you use?

Consideration Bluetooth RCA wired
Receiver requirement Bluetooth audio receiver, normally an active speaker. Powered speaker, amplifier or other equipment with a suitable RCA input.
Cables No audio cable between turntable and speaker. RCA cable required.
Initial setup Speaker must be placed in pairing mode; turntable pairing lasts 30 seconds. Connect the cable and match PHONO/LINE to the receiving input.
Placement More flexible after pairing; wireless range depends on the model and environment. Limited by cable length and equipment placement.
Best fallback when pairing fails Repeat pairing with both devices close together. Use powered speakers or a compatible amplifier and the correct output setting.

Bluetooth is the simplest route when the speaker is already a compatible receiver and you want to avoid a cable. RCA is predictable when the speaker has an accessible line input or when wireless pairing is unreliable. Neither path makes passive speakers self-powered: a passive pair still needs an amplifier or powered speaker system.

For Bluetooth, codec support and practical range depend on the turntable variant, speaker and room. For RCA, the main setup decision is signal level: LINE for a line-level input and PHONO for a dedicated phono input. Choosing between them is therefore mostly a question of the receiver’s inputs and the placement you want, not a change to the record player itself.

Troubleshoot pairing and playback

The speaker does not appear to connect

  • Confirm that the speaker is genuinely in Bluetooth pairing mode, not merely powered on or connected to another source.
  • Move the speaker to within 1 m (3.3 ft) of the turntable.
  • Hold the AT-LP60XBT wireless-function button for about two seconds and look for alternating red and blue flashes.
  • Complete the process before the 30-second pairing window closes.
  • If the window expires, restart pairing on the speaker and repeat the turntable sequence.

Perform the sequence in that order. Starting with the turntable while the speaker is only powered on can leave the turntable searching without a receiver ready to accept it. A fresh attempt should begin with the speaker, followed by the close-range placement and the two-second wireless-button hold.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The indicator flashes red and blue but never turns blue

Those flashes show that the turntable is searching; they do not confirm that the speaker has accepted the connection. Recheck the speaker’s pairing procedure and make sure it is operating as a Bluetooth audio receiver. Keep both devices close during the retry and remove any competing connection from the speaker if its manual requires that.

If the 30-second window ends, the absence of blue is expected. Put the speaker into pairing mode again rather than waiting indefinitely, then initiate a new turntable search. Avoid changing PHONO/LINE as a response to this light pattern; that switch concerns RCA output.

The speaker paired previously but will not reconnect

The turntable can remember up to eight receiver devices, and pairing is normally retained. Audio-Technica says that pairing again may be necessary if the receiver deleted the turntable from its connection history, if the turntable was repaired, or if more than eight devices have been paired. In those cases, put the speaker into pairing mode again and repeat the 30-second procedure.

Memory capacity is about saved receiver relationships, not a promise that every speaker will reconnect automatically in every situation. If a speaker has been reset or its saved-device list was cleared, treat it as a new pairing. If the turntable has already been paired with eight receivers, adding another may require pairing again according to the manual’s guidance.

The light is blue but there is no sound

  • Verify that the record is on the platter and that the stylus protector has been removed.
  • Check the record-size and speed selections, then press START.
  • Raise the speaker’s volume and select its Bluetooth input if it has multiple inputs.
  • Check that the platter belt is installed correctly and the platter rotates.

A blue light identifies a completed Bluetooth pairing, not a guarantee that the speaker is audible at its current volume or input. Work through the record controls and speaker controls separately. If the platter and tonearm operate normally but the speaker remains silent, recheck the speaker’s selected source before deleting and re-pairing devices.

The turntable connects to a phone but not the speaker

The AT-LP60XBT is intended to transmit record audio to a Bluetooth receiver. A phone or computer may be configured primarily as a Bluetooth transmitter, so it may not accept the turntable’s audio stream. Use a speaker or audio system that explicitly supports Bluetooth audio reception.

This distinction explains why a phone can be visible in a Bluetooth menu yet still be unsuitable for this setup. The receiving product must be the endpoint that plays the turntable’s audio, normally a Bluetooth-compatible active speaker or another audio system designed to receive Bluetooth.

Should you factory-reset the turntable?

The cited pairing section of the manufacturer’s manual does not document a factory-reset procedure. Do not rely on unofficial button-hold combinations as if they were Audio-Technica instructions. If the manual-supported pairing steps fail, consult the speaker manual and Audio-Technica’s regional support channel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Start with documented actions: make the speaker discoverable, move it within 1 m, hold the wireless button for about two seconds, and repeat before the 30-second timeout. A reset sequence found elsewhere may apply to another model or regional version and should not be treated as a guaranteed AT-LP60XBT procedure.

Range, codecs and regional specifications

Audio-Technica’s Japanese AT-LP60XBT WW page lists Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive, aptX and SBC codecs, and a maximum range of 10 m in clear line of sight. Those figures are specifications for the WW regional variant, not a guarantee for every market version or every room. Walls, interference, antenna placement and the speaker’s own Bluetooth implementation can reduce practical range.

The 10 m figure should not be confused with the 1 m pairing instruction. Use 1 m or less for the initial connection because that is the manufacturer’s pairing guidance. Afterward, the usable distance depends on both devices and the environment. A clear line of sight is a specification condition, not a promise that a signal will travel 10 m through walls or crowded wireless surroundings.

Codec labels describe supported transmission formats; they do not remove the need for a compatible receiver. The speaker must still support Bluetooth audio reception, and its own implementation determines which compatible format is used. If your regional manual lists different wireless details, follow that documentation for your unit instead of assuming the WW specification applies unchanged.

A reliable repeatable setup checklist

  • Platter installed.
  • Belt routed around the motor pulley and its ribbon removed.
  • Felt mat installed.
  • Turntable level and AC adapter connected.
  • Powered Bluetooth speaker switched on and placed in Bluetooth pairing mode.
  • Speaker within 1 m (3.3 ft) for the initial pairing.
  • Wireless-function button held for about two seconds.
  • Red/blue search flashes observed, followed by blue when connected.
  • Pairing completed within 30 seconds.
  • Stylus protector removed, record size and speed selected, and START pressed.

Use the checklist from top to bottom when helping another listener set up the deck. It separates physical preparation, receiver preparation, wireless pairing and record playback. That makes it easier to identify whether a problem is mechanical, a speaker-mode issue, an expired pairing window or a playback-control mistake.

When to choose the wired fallback

Use RCA instead of Bluetooth when your speaker has a suitable line input, when you need a connection that does not depend on wireless pairing, or when the speaker is outside reliable Bluetooth range. Connect the supplied RCA cable, select LINE for an AUX or line input, and select PHONO only for a dedicated phono input. The built-in phono equalizer means a separate phono preamp is not required for a powered-speaker connection configured as a line-level output.

Do not connect the turntable directly to passive speakers. They need amplification, either from powered speakers or from an amplifier/receiver that accepts the selected output. If the receiving equipment has both PHONO and LINE inputs, use the setting that matches the input you actually chose. The RCA route is a fallback for the same record player, not a reason to change the Bluetooth pairing procedure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A powered bookshelf speaker with RCA input is a practical wired alternative. Audio-Technica shows the AT-SP3X in connection with the turntable, but it is an example rather than a required pairing match. Choose any receiving equipment whose power and input arrangement suit the connection you intend to make.

Frequently asked questions

Do I change PHONO/LINE before pairing Bluetooth?

No. Leave the selector unchanged for Bluetooth. It controls the RCA output path; use it only when matching the turntable to a PHONO or LINE input by cable.

What does flashing red and blue mean?

It means the AT-LP60XBT is searching for a Bluetooth receiver. Keep the speaker in its own pairing mode, within 1 m (3.3 ft), and finish within 30 seconds. Blue illumination indicates that pairing has completed.

How close should the speaker be?

Place it within 1 m (3.3 ft) during pairing. The Japanese WW specification lists a maximum 10 m range in clear line of sight for that regional variant after connection, but actual range varies with the room and equipment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How many Bluetooth receivers can the turntable remember?

Audio-Technica specifies memory for up to eight receiver devices. Pair again if the receiver erased the turntable, the turntable was repaired, or more than eight devices have been paired.

Can I connect passive speakers directly?

No. Use a powered Bluetooth speaker for wireless playback, or connect the RCA output to powered speakers or an amplifier/receiver with a suitable input.

Why is there no sound after the light turns blue?

Check the speaker’s volume and selected input, remove the stylus protector, confirm the record size and speed, press START, and verify that the belt is installed and the platter rotates.

Is a separate phono preamp required for powered speakers?

Not for the line-level RCA setup described here. The AT-LP60XBT has a built-in phono equalizer; set the selector to LINE when connecting to an AUX or other line input.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is there an official factory-reset button sequence?

The cited pairing section does not document one. Use the documented pairing steps and consult the turntable’s regional support channel and the speaker manual rather than relying on unofficial combinations.

Bottom line

Set up the platter and belt first, put the powered speaker into its own Bluetooth pairing mode, then hold the AT-LP60XBT wireless button for about two seconds with the devices within 1 m.
