To set up and map a Shark Matrix Plus, first confirm the model number on the robot or its packaging, install and open the SharkClean app, add the robot through the app’s guided setup, charge the robot, and start the app’s Explore Run. During that run, the robot travels through accessible rooms to identify walls, furniture, and obstacles. After the map is saved, use the map controls to select areas for cleaning and create no-go zones where your model and app version provide those features.
Shark’s product information identifies the Matrix Plus 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop as model RV2610WA. Shark’s manuals index also lists an RV2600WA Series owner guide and quick-start guide for the Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Self-Empty XL. Check the label on your exact unit before applying model-specific instructions, because app labels, prompts, charging behavior, and map controls can differ by model and software version.
1. Confirm which Shark Matrix Plus you have
Model identification is the most important first step. Shark’s product page identifies the Matrix Plus 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop as RV2610WA, while the manuals index lists documentation for the RV2600WA Series Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Self-Empty XL. Those references are close enough to cause confusion but are not proof that every instruction is interchangeable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind the model number
- Read the model label on the robot, its charging dock, the original carton, or the documentation supplied with the unit.
- Compare the label with the model shown in the SharkClean app during setup.
- If the app presents a different Matrix model, stop and choose the exact model rather than accepting a similar-looking entry.
- Use the owner guide that matches the label for details such as charging time, button behavior, error messages, and mop-specific preparation.
The instructions below describe the common Matrix Plus mapping workflow supported by Shark’s documentation. Where a detail comes from a different series guide, it is identified as general Matrix context rather than an RV2610WA-specific promise.

2. Prepare the home before opening the app
A first map is most useful when the robot can travel through the rooms you want represented. Walk through the intended cleaning area before starting the setup and remove temporary obstacles that could make the map incomplete.
Use a stable dock location
Place the dock where it can remain for normal operation. Shark’s indexed guide warns that moving the dock or robot during operation can interfere with the cleaning path or the robot’s return to the dock. Treat the dock position as part of the map: once mapping begins, leave it where it is.
Clear temporary obstacles
- Move boxes, bags, loose cables, and other items that do not normally belong on the floor.
- Open the doors to rooms you want the robot to explore.
- Keep people and pets from repeatedly blocking the robot while it is learning the layout.
- Make sure the robot can leave the dock and return to it without someone carrying it to another location.
Do not redesign the home just to produce a map. The goal is to show the robot the normal boundaries and obstacles it will encounter. If a doorway is intentionally closed every day, leaving it closed produces a map that matches that routine; opening it later may require the app to update or extend the map.
3. Add the robot in the SharkClean app
Install the SharkClean app from your device’s official app store, then open it and follow the guided process to add a robot. Exact screen names can change as the app is updated, so use the current prompts shown for your model rather than relying on a screenshot from another Matrix series.
- Open SharkClean and begin device setup. Select the option to add or set up a robot when the app presents it.
- Choose the exact model. Match the app’s model entry with the RV number printed on your robot or documentation.
- Follow the connection prompts. Complete each on-screen instruction for pairing the robot and app. If the app asks you to confirm a light, sound, button press, or network step, use the model guide if the prompt is unclear.
- Place the robot on its dock. The app may require the robot to be docked before it can continue. Do not carry it away once the setup process begins unless the app explicitly tells you to.
- Finish registration and permissions. Review the permissions requested by the current app version and continue only after confirming that the selected robot is the one in your home.
If the app cannot identify the robot, do not substitute another Matrix model simply because its name looks similar. Recheck the model label, restart the app, and consult the matching owner guide for the model-specific reset or pairing procedure.

4. Charge the robot before its first mapping run
Shark’s indexed Matrix guide recommends fully charging the robot before the first cleaning. A separate guide for the 2400WD Series says charging may take up to six hours, but that timing is specific to that guide and should not be presented as the charging time for RV2610WA. For the Matrix Plus model in your home, rely on the charging indicator and the exact owner guide.
What to do
- Put the robot on the dock and confirm that it is seated correctly.
- Leave it charging until the app or the robot indicates that it is ready.
- Keep the dock and robot in place while charging and during mapping.
A partially charged robot may stop before it has explored the whole floor. If the app offers an Explore Run immediately, complete charging first unless the model’s instructions explicitly say otherwise.

5. Start the Explore Run to create the first map
The SharkClean app’s guided Explore Run is the starting point for the home map. Shark’s 2400WD Series guide states: “After setup is complete, follow instructions in the app to help your robot conduct an Explore Run to create an initial map of your home.” That wording is from the 2400WD Series guide, so confirm the exact prompts shown for your Matrix Plus model.
What happens during exploration
Shark describes the robot moving from room to room to identify walls, furniture, and obstacles. The RV2610WA is described as using 360-degree LiDAR for mapping. The first run is therefore a layout-discovery operation, not merely a normal cleaning cycle. Let the robot travel naturally so the app can build a usable representation of the floor.
Run the exploration in order
- Open the SharkClean app after setup and select the mapping or Explore Run option shown for your robot.
- Confirm that the robot is charged and positioned at its dock.
- Open the doors to the areas you want included and remove temporary objects that could block passage.
- Start the Explore Run from the app.
- Allow the robot to move through the accessible rooms without lifting it, moving the dock, or repeatedly placing objects in its path.
- Wait for the app to report that exploration is complete or that an initial map is ready.
- Review the map before assigning room or area cleanings.
If a person must intervene for safety, move the obstruction rather than relocating the robot. Moving the robot can disrupt the path it is learning and may prevent a reliable return to the dock.

6. Read the initial map before editing it
Do not assume that a line on the screen is a perfect architectural floor plan. It is the robot’s working map of the areas it could reach during exploration. Compare the map with the rooms that were open and accessible during the run.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check these points
- Does the map include every room whose door was open?
- Are corridors connected where the robot actually traveled?
- Are a closed door, stair edge, large object, or other obstacle represented as a boundary?
- Did the robot return to the same dock location shown at the beginning?
A missing room usually indicates an access problem during exploration rather than a need to redraw the map manually. Open the route during a later mapping or update process if the app provides one, and follow the current model instructions. Do not move the dock to “help” the robot reach a room; the dock’s position is an anchor for navigation.
7. Select specific areas for cleaning
Shark says the SharkClean app supports selecting specific areas. After the initial map is available, open the map controls and look for the area or room-selection function offered by your app version. Select only the area you want cleaned, then review the highlighted selection before starting.
Use area selection deliberately
- Select a single room when you want a focused cleanup.
- Select several mapped areas when one pass should cover connected parts of the home.
- Check that the selected region matches the map boundaries, especially where two rooms have an open connection.
- If a room is not selectable, return to the map review stage and determine whether it was accessible during exploration.
Area selection depends on the map the robot has saved. It cannot reliably select a room that was never discovered or that the app has not separated into a usable area. App labels and editing options may change with software updates, so use the controls currently displayed for the exact model.
8. Create no-go zones for places the robot should avoid
The SharkClean app supports no-go zones for models and app versions that expose that control. A no-go zone is a map-defined area the robot should not enter. Use it for a location that is routinely inaccessible, fragile, or unsafe for the robot rather than relying on someone to intercept the robot during every run.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Set a no-go zone
- Open the saved map in SharkClean.
- Choose the map-editing control that corresponds to no-go zones in your current app version.
- Draw or place the zone over the area to avoid, keeping the boundary inside the mapped space.
- Save the edit when the app asks you to confirm it.
- Review the resulting map and make sure the zone does not block a doorway, dock, or route you still want cleaned.
The exact editing gesture and label are version-dependent. If your app does not show no-go zones, do not assume the feature is missing from every Matrix Plus model; check the current guide for the model number on your robot and update the app only through the normal app-store process.
When a physical barrier is still better
Map controls depend on the map remaining accurate. If furniture moves frequently, a physical barrier or a closed door may be more predictable than a permanent digital zone. Recheck digital zones after major changes to the room layout or after creating a new map.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. Keep the map reliable after setup
Mapping is not a one-time drawing exercise. The robot uses the saved layout to plan where to travel, so everyday handling can affect the result.
Protect the dock reference
Leave the dock in its established position. Shark’s guide specifically warns that moving the dock or robot during operation can interfere with the cleaning path or return to the dock. If the dock must be moved, expect to follow the model’s instructions for rebuilding or correcting the map rather than assuming the old map will remain accurate.

Let the robot finish runs
When practical, allow a run to end at the dock. Stopping a run early or carrying the robot to another room deprives the navigation system of a consistent starting and ending point. If you have to intervene, return the robot to the dock and check the map in the app before starting another targeted cleaning.

Update your map only when the home changes
Do not repeatedly rebuild a good map without a reason. Create or update one when a newly accessible area needs to be included, a persistent boundary has changed, or the app’s model-specific instructions call for it. A stable map is easier to use for area selections and no-go zones.
10. Troubleshoot an incomplete or confusing map
The robot never starts exploring
- Confirm that the robot is the model selected in SharkClean.
- Check that it is seated on the dock and charged according to the exact owner guide.
- Return to the app’s setup prompts rather than starting a generic cleaning command.
- If pairing remains incomplete, use the model-specific troubleshooting or reset instructions instead of guessing at button combinations.
A room is missing
- Check whether the room door was open during the Explore Run.
- Look for a box, cable, person, or pet that blocked the entrance.
- Make sure the robot was not lifted or moved while it was mapping.
- Use the app’s current mapping or exploration option to let the robot access the room again, following the exact model guide.
The robot does not return to the dock
- Verify that neither the dock nor the robot was moved during operation.
- Check the path between the robot’s location and the dock for a newly placed obstacle.
- Place the robot back on the dock and inspect the saved map before launching another run.
- If the issue repeats, consult the guide matching the model number rather than applying a charging-time or navigation instruction from another series.
The map shows an unwanted zone or boundary
Review whether a door was closed or an object was present during exploration. Remove the temporary obstruction and use the app’s current map-update workflow if available. Do not erase a useful map solely because a temporary object appeared; first determine whether the app lets you correct or extend it.
11. Understand mapping data and privacy
Shark’s connected-device notice says mapping data from the robot is sent to the SharkClean app so the user can see where the robot has cleaned. The same notice says camera images stay on the machine and are not accessed by SharkNinja. That statement is tied to the notice’s scope and date; check the current notice and confirm that it applies to your precise Matrix Plus model before treating it as a universal statement about every Shark connected device.

- Read the current privacy and connected-device notices linked from the app or Shark’s support pages.
- Confirm which model is registered in the app before reviewing device-data settings.
- Use the app’s permission controls to decide which phone capabilities you are comfortable granting.
- Remember that map visibility in the app requires map data to be associated with that connected account and device.
Privacy information does not change the mapping steps: the Explore Run still creates the map locally as the robot navigates, and the app displays the resulting map for selections and no-go zones.
12. A first-day checklist
- Model label verified; RV2610WA is not assumed when the label says another RV2600WA-series or Matrix model.
- Matching owner guide located.
- SharkClean app installed and the exact model selected.
- Robot placed on its dock and charged according to the matching guide.
- Dock positioned where it can remain during normal use.
- Doors opened for rooms that should appear on the map.
- Temporary floor obstacles removed.
- Explore Run started from the app’s current guided workflow.
- Robot left alone to travel, map, and return without being moved.
- Initial map reviewed for missing rooms or unexpected boundaries.
- Specific-area selection tested only after the map is saved.
- No-go zones added and reviewed where the model and app provide that feature.
- Privacy notice checked for the exact connected device.
13. What a successful setup looks like
Setup is complete when SharkClean recognizes the correct robot, the robot has completed the guided Explore Run, and the app displays a map that matches the rooms you allowed it to enter. You should be able to select mapped areas for cleaning and, where supported, save no-go zones. The map will remain more dependable if the dock stays in place and the robot is not carried between rooms during operation.
If the result is incomplete, correct the underlying condition—model mismatch, insufficient charge, blocked doorway, moved dock, or interrupted run—before repeatedly editing the map. The current app prompts and the owner guide for the exact RV model take priority over instructions written for another Matrix series.
