Set the Roomba 105 on its powered dock, install the Roomba Home App, connect your phone and robot to a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network, then run Create a Map with doors open, floors clear, and lights on. The first ClearView LiDAR map can take up to 30 minutes; do not move the robot or dock until the map has saved. Afterward, the app lets you rename, merge, split, rotate, and add cleaning or no-go zones to rooms.

What you need before starting

The Roomba 105 is part of iRobot’s Roomba 100 / 1000 series. iRobot identifies the Roomba 105 Vac and Roomba 105 Combo as Wi‑Fi-connected floor-cleaning robots (regulatory model RCC-Y2) in its UKCA declaration dated March 27, 2025. Setup and mapping are performed in the Roomba Home App, not through a computer browser.

  • An iRobot account and a valid email address.
  • A supported phone running iOS 17 or later, or Android 11.0 or later. iRobot’s setup guidance says tablet setup is no longer supported.
  • A home Wi‑Fi network with a 2.4 GHz band. The 100 / 1000 series does not use 5 GHz during setup.
  • Bluetooth, location services (including Precise Location when requested), and local-network access enabled for the app.
  • The robot, its dock, the dock’s power adapter, and a clear area in which the robot can explore.

Feature availability can vary by region. ClearView LiDAR mapping requires the robot to be paired with an iRobot Home account and requires current app and robot software, as described in iRobot’s Guide to ClearView LiDAR Maps.

Prepare the robot, dock, and phone

Unpack and power the dock

  1. Remove all packaging from the robot and dock, including bumper guards and protective film.
  2. Place the dock on a level surface with open space around it. Keep it close enough to the router for a reliable signal and position it where the robot can approach and leave without obstacles.
  3. Connect the dock to power.
  4. Set the Roomba 105 on the dock and confirm that it is charging before opening the app.

A stable dock location matters twice: the robot uses it as its charging destination during normal work, and it uses the dock as the reference point for its map. Choose the final location before creating the first map. Moving the dock after mapping can make the existing map less useful, so map only after you are satisfied with its position.

Install the correct app and sign in

Install or update the Roomba Home App on your phone. iRobot’s current setup article lists iOS 17+ and Android 11.0+ as the supported operating-system versions. Open the app and either sign in with an existing iRobot account or create one with a valid email address. Keep the phone near the dock while pairing.

During setup, connect the phone to the same home network that the robot will use. Select the 2.4 GHz network rather than a 5 GHz-only network. If your router combines bands under one name, use its settings or a separate 2.4 GHz guest or IoT network so the phone’s connection is unambiguous during pairing.

When the app requests permissions, allow Bluetooth, location services, Precise Location where offered, and network access. These permissions let the app discover the nearby robot and transfer the Wi‑Fi details. If a permission was denied earlier, open the phone’s app settings and enable it before repeating discovery.

Connect the Roomba 105 to Wi‑Fi

Use Add a New Product

  1. Open the Roomba Home App and choose Add a New Product.
  2. If the app displays the nearby Roomba 105, select Set Up. If it does not, follow the model-specific instructions shown in the app.
  3. Select the 2.4 GHz network that the robot can detect.
  4. Enter the Wi‑Fi password. If automatic entry fails, type it manually so capitalization and punctuation are correct.
  5. When prompted, press the robot’s power button. This confirms which nearby robot the app should configure.
  6. Stay in the app while discovery and connection complete, then assign the robot a name.

Most robots require a software update before they are ready for use. Leave the robot on its powered dock and allow the app to finish updating rather than closing it or unplugging the dock. An update may take place before mapping features appear, so finish the setup flow and confirm the robot is online first.

For the complete official flow and current permission prompts, see iRobot’s Roomba Home App setup guide.

If setup cannot find the robot

  • Keep the app open on its nearby-product search screen and move the phone close to the dock.
  • Verify Bluetooth and location permissions, including Precise Location if the phone presents that option.
  • Confirm the phone is connected to the intended 2.4 GHz network, not a 5 GHz-only network or a different guest network.
  • Reboot the robot and router, then repeat Add a New Product.
  • If available, try another supported phone or another compatible network to isolate a phone-permission or router issue.

Work through these checks in order. A robot that is charging but not discovered generally points to app permissions, the phone’s network connection, or the product-discovery step rather than a mapping problem. Keep the app in the foreground until it reports that setup is complete.

Fix password and network-name errors

Re-enter the password manually and check every character. iRobot notes that unsupported special characters in the Wi‑Fi name or password can cause setup errors. A network name or password that the phone accepts can still fail during robot setup if it contains characters the setup flow does not support. Correct the credentials or use a compatible network configuration, then repeat the connection step.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After a successful setup, Wi‑Fi controls are available at Product Settings > Wi‑Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi‑Fi. Use that path when replacing a router or moving the robot to another supported network instead of immediately erasing the robot.

Prepare your home for the first ClearView LiDAR map

Make every intended area accessible

  • Open the doors to every room or hallway you want included, and leave those doors open throughout the mapping run.
  • Pick up cords, charging cables, shoelaces, clothing, and other objects that could catch in the rollers or stop the robot.
  • Clear floors as far as practical. Fewer obstacles give the robot more uninterrupted space to trace walls and room boundaries.
  • Keep the dock in its final position. Do not relocate it after mapping starts.

Do a complete walk-through before tapping Create a Map. A closed interior door is effectively an inaccessible area for that run, and a cable that was harmless during setup can still stop exploration. If you want several rooms on one floor, prepare them all at once rather than expecting the robot to add a closed room later without another mapping run.

Provide enough light

Turn on room lights or open window shades before mapping and keep the home lit. iRobot states plainly: “Lighting is necessary for the robot to navigate.” This is a navigation requirement, not merely a recommendation for a clearer screenshot. Dark rooms, hallways, or corners can therefore affect whether the robot reaches and records the whole intended area.

ClearView map support covers the Roomba 100 / 1000 series, including the Roomba 105. The map feature requires an iRobot Home account, current app software, and current robot software; availability may differ by region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Create the first map

  1. Open the Roomba Home App home screen.
  2. Choose Create a Map.
  3. Confirm that doors are open, floors are clear, lights are on, and the robot is on its dock.
  4. Let the robot explore without assistance. Do not pick it up, move the dock, or press buttons while it is mapping.

During this run, the Roomba focuses on exploration and does not clean. It enters accessible spaces, avoids stairs and other drop-offs, and normally returns to its dock when exploration is complete. Depending on the size and layout of your home, mapping can take up to 30 minutes. The robot may return to the dock to recharge between rooms. A recharge pause is part of the expected behavior, not by itself a failed map.

When the robot docks, allow a few additional minutes for the app to save and process the map. Closing the app immediately, moving the dock, or pressing controls before saving can leave an incomplete map. Leave the robot and dock exactly where they are until the app shows that the map is ready. If the run was interrupted, correct the home conditions and start Create a Map again.

The first run is for exploration, so do not judge it by how much dust it collects. Its useful result is a saved floor plan with room boundaries that can later support room jobs, favorites, schedules, and zones.

Review and customize the finished map

When the first map is ready, the app prompts you to review it. Roomba automatically creates and names rooms, and the map initially uses the name Main Floor. If the boundaries and labels look correct, you can skip customization and begin a cleaning job.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rename the map or rooms

Use the map-editing controls in the prompt to give the floor a useful name and replace automatically generated room names with names your household uses, such as Kitchen, Office, or Upstairs Hall. Clear names make room-specific jobs, favorites, and schedules easier to understand. Renaming does not require another exploration run.

Merge neighboring rooms

Merge two adjacent regions when the automatic boundaries divide one practical cleaning area into separate rooms. For example, an open kitchen and dining area may work better as one room. Select the neighboring rooms in map editing and choose the merge command shown by the app.

Split a room

Split a large region when you want separate controls for spaces such as a combined living room and play area. Follow the app’s split tool to draw or place the dividing boundary, then save the edit.

Rotate the map

If the map’s orientation is awkward to read, use the rotate control in the map editor. Rotation changes the display orientation; it does not move the physical dock or alter the rooms’ locations.

Add Keep Out Zones

Draw a Keep Out Zone over a place the robot should avoid, such as a tangle of cables, a crowded corner, or an area that must remain undisturbed. Keep the zone inside the map and large enough to cover the hazard, including the robot’s clearance around it. A zone is useful when the obstacle is persistent and you do not want to remove it before every job.

Add Clean Zones

A Clean Zone identifies a target area for a cleaning job, favorite, or schedule. Use it when you want to clean a specific part of a room without selecting the entire room. Save the zone with a descriptive name so it is recognizable when you create future jobs. Clean Zones complement room selection: a room describes the mapped space, while a zone targets a particular portion of it.

What to do when the map is wrong or incomplete

Only part of the home appears

  • Check that every intended door was fully open and remained open for the entire run.
  • Remove cords, shoelaces, and furniture clutter that may have blocked an entrance.
  • Turn on lights or open shades in darker areas.
  • Verify that the robot and dock stayed in their original positions and that no one pressed the robot’s buttons.
  • Run Create a Map again after correcting those conditions.

Do not try to carry the robot into an unvisited room while mapping. The map depends on the robot’s own exploration and dock reference, and iRobot warns that moving it or the dock can leave the result incomplete.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The robot stopped or failed to return

Look for a roller or wheel obstruction and confirm that the dock still has power and a clear approach. Place the robot back on the dock only if it cannot continue, then repeat mapping; manually relocating it during an active map run can produce an incomplete result. If it stopped because a cord or shoelace caught it, remove that object before trying again.

The map has odd room boundaries

Use merge and split tools rather than repeatedly moving furniture and remapping. After editing, verify the room labels and restore any cleaning settings that were reset by a merge or split. If a boundary is wrong because an area was inaccessible, correct the door or obstruction and create the map again.

Factory reset: a last resort

Do not factory-reset merely because Wi‑Fi pairing failed. First check the network band, credentials, permissions, and router, then use Product Settings > Wi‑Fi Settings > Reconnect or Change Product Wi‑Fi where applicable.

According to iRobot’s Roomba 105 offline FAQ, a factory reset deletes saved maps, cleaning history, favorites, schedules, and personalized settings. After setup, the robot must learn the home again. Record any custom room and zone choices before resetting so you can recreate them after a new map is completed. A reset is therefore a data-loss step, not a routine Wi‑Fi repair.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Roomba 105 connect to a 5 GHz network?

iRobot’s setup table lists the Roomba 100 / 1000 series for 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi, not 5 GHz. Use a detectable 2.4 GHz network during pairing.

Does the first map clean the floors?

No. Create a Map is an exploration run. The robot maps accessible spaces, may recharge, and returns to the dock without performing a normal cleaning cycle.

How long should mapping take?

iRobot says the run may take up to 30 minutes depending on home size, followed by a few minutes for the map to save.

Why are there no rooms behind a closed door?

The robot cannot map an inaccessible space. Open the door before starting and leave it open until the run finishes, then rerun map creation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will merging rooms preserve my cleaning settings?

No. iRobot says merging or splitting rooms resets their cleaning settings to defaults. Review those settings after editing.

Why does the app need Bluetooth and location access?

The setup flow uses nearby-device discovery and network information to connect the phone with the robot. Enable Bluetooth, location services, Precise Location when requested, and network access so discovery can complete.

Can I map a dark room?

Provide light before and during mapping. iRobot states that lighting is necessary for the robot to navigate, so turn on lights or open shades in every intended area.

Should I move the Roomba if it pauses to recharge?

No. The robot may return to the dock between rooms during a map run. Leave it and the dock untouched and allow the app time to save the finished map.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happens if I factory-reset the Roomba 105?

The reset deletes maps, cleaning history, favorites, schedules, and personalized settings. The robot must learn the home again after setup, so use Wi‑Fi reconnection and permission checks first.

The Bottom Line

For a dependable Roomba 105 map, finish app pairing on a 2.4 GHz network first, then give the robot a powered, fixed dock, open doors, clear floors, and adequate light. Start Create a Map and leave the robot, dock, and controls alone until saving finishes. Customize rooms and zones afterward, remembering that merging or splitting rooms restores their cleaning settings to defaults.
