Set up the Roomba Max 775 Combo by placing its AutoWash dock on a level, hard floor at least 4 feet from stairs, powering the dock, seating the robot until it charges, and adding it in the Roomba Home App. Your phone needs Bluetooth, location services, and network access enabled, and the phone and robot should use the same Wi‑Fi network during setup. The Max 775 Series supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi‑Fi.
After setup, the dock can empty debris, wash and dry the roller mop, and dispense StayClean mopping concentrate, but it does not eliminate routine care. iRobot’s product guidance calls for wiping the robot bin, rinsing the dock water tanks, cleaning charging contacts and brushes, and changing the filter every 3–6 months. Use the current Max 775 owner’s guide for the exact removal, cleaning, drying, reinstallation, solution, and component-specific instructions.
What you need before setting up
- The Roomba Max 775 robot and its AutoWash dock.
- A level, hard-surface floor for the dock.
- A power outlet close enough for the dock cable.
- A phone connected to the Wi‑Fi network you intend to use with the robot.
- The Roomba Home App installed on that phone.
- Bluetooth, location services, and network access enabled on the phone.
Keep the robot, dock, and phone together during setup. iRobot’s setup guidance cautions that tablet setup may not be supported, so use a compatible phone rather than assuming a tablet will work. Remove every shipping restraint, film, cardboard insert, and piece of protective packaging before powering up. Packaging left around a wheel, brush, roller, or dock opening can prevent movement or docking.
Place and power the AutoWash dock
Choose the location
- Remove all packaging, shipping restraints, films, and protective material from the robot and dock.
- Set the dock on a level, hard-surface floor. Do not place it on a soft or unstable surface that could interfere with docking.
- Leave enough open space for the robot to move out of and back into the dock. The robot must be able to approach the dock without furniture or other obstacles blocking the entry path.
- Keep the dock at least 4 feet from stairs. This is the clearance stated in iRobot’s product-page FAQ.
A level floor matters for more than navigation. The robot needs a stable target when it returns, and the dock’s tanks and washing area need to sit correctly. Avoid a location where a door, loose rug, narrow passage, or frequently moved object can block the approach. If you later rearrange furniture, check that the robot still has a clear route into and out of the dock.

Connect the dock
Connect the dock to power after it is positioned. Place the robot on the dock and look for the charging indication described by the robot or app. Do not begin app configuration until the robot is seated securely and charging; a robot that is not making contact with the dock can appear to be an app or Wi‑Fi problem later.
Leave the dock in its chosen position while onboarding. Moving it immediately after mapping or setup can make navigation less predictable and may force the robot to relocate the dock. If the dock has no visible response, confirm the outlet and cable connection before changing wireless settings.
Add the robot in the Roomba Home App
- Connect your phone to the home network that the robot will use.
- Turn on Bluetooth and location services, and allow the app the network access it requests.
- Open the Roomba Home App.
- Choose add a New Product and select the Max 775 Series when prompted.
- Follow the on-screen pairing and setup steps.
- Keep the phone and robot on the same network while setup completes.
Wi‑Fi requirements
iRobot’s setup article lists support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi‑Fi on the Max 775 Series. During onboarding, the phone and robot should use the same network. If your router presents separate network names for the two bands, connect the phone to the network you want the robot to join and select that same network in the app. Do not assume that switching the phone to a guest network, cellular data, or another household access point will work during pairing.
If setup does not discover the robot, first verify that Bluetooth, location services, and network permission are enabled for the app. Then confirm that the robot is on the powered dock and that the phone has not switched to a different Wi‑Fi network. Because tablet support may not be available, repeat the process from a phone before treating the robot as defective. If you have separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, record which one you selected so future troubleshooting starts with the same network.
What the AutoWash dock does
The 775 AutoWash dock performs several jobs after a cleaning session:
- Automatically empties debris from the robot.
- Washes the roller mop.
- Dries the roller mop.
- Dispenses StayClean mopping concentrate.
iRobot lists a heated roller-wash temperature of 167°F / 75°C and a roller-dry temperature of 122°F / 50°C for the dock. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. They describe the dock’s stated operating temperatures, not a guarantee that every cleaning cycle will reach those temperatures under every condition.
Automatic emptying and mop care reduce hands-on work; they do not make the robot or dock maintenance-free. Dirt, hair, residue, water tanks, charging contacts, brushes, and the filter still require attention. The dock’s automated cycle is a convenience feature, not permission to leave a full tank, dirty contact, blocked roller area, or saturated filter unattended.

Max 775 maintenance schedule
The official Max 775 product guidance provides a high-level schedule rather than a complete component-by-component calendar. Use the current Max 775 owner’s guide for the detailed procedure and any alerts or interval changes shown for your software and hardware.
| Part or task | Published guidance for Max 775 | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Robot bin | Routine basic care; no separate interval stated on the product page | Wipe the bin as directed in the current owner’s guide. |
| Dock water tanks | Routine basic care; no separate interval stated | Rinse the tanks according to the guide, then reinstall them correctly. |
| Charging contacts | Routine basic care; no separate interval stated | Clean the robot and dock contacts using the method specified in the guide. |
| Brushes | Routine basic care; no separate interval stated | Clean the brushes and remove accumulated hair or debris as the guide shows. |
| Filter | Change every 3–6 months, according to iRobot’s Max 775 product-page FAQ | Replace with a filter confirmed for the Max 700 Series Combo and install it exactly as shown in the guide. |
The 3–6 month filter interval is a manufacturer recommendation. Actual replacement timing can vary with dust load, floor conditions, and use, so inspect the filter and follow any Max 775 alert or updated instruction that is more specific. A household with heavy shedding, fine dust, or frequent cleaning may need to inspect the filter more often even though the published replacement window remains 3–6 months.
Cleaning the robot
Robot bin
Wipe the robot bin as part of routine care. Emptying by the dock does not remove every film of dust or residue from the bin surfaces. Use the Max 775 owner’s guide for the bin’s release point, approved cleaning method, drying requirements, and reinstallation. Do not reinstall a component until it is dry if the guide requires drying. Keep debris away from seals and openings, and never force a latch that has not released according to the model’s instructions.
Filter
Inspect the filter when you perform bin care. Replace it on the product page’s 3–6 month schedule, or sooner if the filter is damaged, saturated, or the robot reports a filter-related issue. The exact removal and cleaning method is model-specific; follow the current Max 775 guide rather than assuming that a filter procedure from another Roomba model applies. Record the installation date on a note or in your household maintenance calendar so the replacement window is not forgotten.
Do not transfer the often-cited Combo 10 Max schedule to this robot. The detailed schedule located for that model calls for weekly filter cleaning, twice-weekly cleaning with a pet, and replacement every two months, but those figures are explicitly for Combo 10 Max and are not Max 775 instructions. A similar-looking filter or a familiar Roomba menu does not make another model’s interval valid.
Charging contacts
Keep the robot’s charging contacts and the matching dock contacts clean. Dirty contacts can prevent reliable charging and can be mistaken for a wireless-setup failure. Use only the cleaning approach specified in the Max 775 guide, and make sure the contacts are dry before returning the robot to the dock. If charging is intermittent, inspect both sides of the connection rather than cleaning only the robot.
Brushes
Clean the robot’s brushes during routine maintenance and remove hair or debris that could restrict movement. The Max 775 guide is the authority for brush removal, orientation, cleaning tools, and reinstallation. Do not force a brush or substitute a part simply because it looks similar to one from another series. A brush that is installed in the wrong orientation can affect cleaning or create unnecessary resistance.

Maintaining the dock
Water tanks
Rinse the dock water tanks as part of basic care. The owner’s guide should be used for identifying each tank, removing it without spilling, cleaning it, and confirming that it is seated correctly when returned. A tank that is not fully installed can interrupt washing or drying even when the robot itself is charged. Check the tank area for residue while you rinse, but do not add a household cleaner unless the model-specific instructions expressly approve it.

The dock washes and dries the roller mop automatically, but inspect the area for residue or accumulated debris when performing dock care. Follow the Max 775 guide for access panels, removable parts, drying instructions, and warnings about water or cleaning products. Do not infer a cleaning interval from another model’s guide. If the dock is warm after a drying cycle, allow it to cool as directed before handling any removable part.
Mopping solution
The reviewed iRobot cleaning-solution guidance does not establish a Max 775-specific formula or dosage. Instructions published for other robot series cannot safely be copied to the Max 775. Before adding concentrate, check the current Max 775 owner’s guide or support page for the approved StayClean product, dilution, fill location, and maximum amount. If the model-specific instruction is not available, do not guess at a ratio or substitute an unapproved household cleaner. An incorrect chemical or concentration can leave residue, affect the dock, or create a service problem that is avoidable by waiting for the model-specific instruction.
Buying compatible replacement parts
iRobot’s official Max 775 accessories catalog lists Max 700 Series Combo supplies. Compatibility must be checked against both the robot and the AutoWash dock, not just the word “Roomba” in a listing. When comparing products, check the exact model family, part type, pack size, and whether the item is a genuine iRobot component or a third-party substitute.
| Supply category | What the official catalog identifies | Checks before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Roller mop | PowerSpin Roller Mop for the Max 700 Series Combo family | Confirm the listing names the Max 700 Series Combo and the correct roller-mop design. |
| Filters | Max 700 Combo filters, including carbon-filter listings | Match the exact Max 775/Max 700 Combo designation and verify the filter shape and fit. |
| Edge-sweeping brushes | Dual edge-sweeping brushes | Check that the part is intended for the Max 700 Combo family and includes the correct pair or quantity. |
| Debris bags | Bags for select AutoWash docks | Confirm that your particular AutoWash dock is one of the supported versions. |
| Replenishment kits | Max 700 Series Combo replenishment kits | Read the contents and compatibility statement; pack contents can differ. |
Useful search wording includes “Roomba Max 775 replacement filter,” “Roomba Max 700 Series Combo replenishment kit,” “PowerSpin roller mop for Roomba Max 700,” and “replacement dirt disposal bags for AutoWash dock.” An official catalog entry confirms a genuine compatible category; it does not prove that a third-party listing fits or that a particular retailer has stock. Check the exact robot and dock model before ordering. If a listing names only a broad Roomba family, ask the seller or compare its compatibility statement with the official catalog before buying.

The robot does not appear to charge
- Confirm the dock is connected to power.
- Move the robot fully onto the dock so its contacts meet the dock contacts.
- Check that the contacts are clean and dry.
- Verify that the dock is on a level, hard surface and is not obstructed.
If charging still does not begin, consult the Max 775 support instructions before repeatedly restarting app setup. Repeated pairing attempts cannot compensate for a robot that is not receiving power from the dock.
The app cannot find the robot
- Use a phone rather than a tablet if tablet setup is unavailable.
- Enable Bluetooth, location services, and network access for the Roomba Home App.
- Confirm that the phone is connected to the intended Wi‑Fi network.
- Keep the robot on the powered dock and follow add a New Product again.
- Check that the phone and robot are being configured on the same network and that you have selected the intended 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network.
The dock is not washing or drying the roller mop
Check that the robot is seated on the dock, the dock has power, and the water tanks are installed as shown in the guide. Inspect for an obvious obstruction, but do not dismantle sealed areas or add unapproved chemicals. Use the model-specific support procedure if the dock continues to skip washing or drying. A missing, incorrectly seated, or empty tank can interrupt the cycle even when the app connection is working.

The robot still needs frequent attention
Automatic debris emptying and mop care are convenience functions, not a replacement for basic maintenance. Follow the Max 775 routine: wipe the bin, rinse the water tanks, clean contacts and brushes, and replace the filter at the stated 3–6 month interval. Increase inspection frequency when the robot operates in unusually dusty conditions or collects substantial hair, while keeping the owner’s guide as the authority for component-specific care.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical maintenance routine
- When the robot is on the dock, check that it is charging and that the dock has power.
- Inspect the robot bin and filter area for visible dust or residue.
- Clean the charging contacts and brushes using the Max 775 guide’s method.
- Inspect and rinse the dock water tanks as directed.
- Check the roller-mop and dock area for buildup, using only the access and cleaning steps approved for this model.
- Record the filter installation date so the 3–6 month replacement window is easy to track.
- Before purchasing supplies, match the part to both the Max 775 robot and its AutoWash dock.
Keep the current Max 775 owner’s guide available whenever a task involves removing a component, applying solution, drying a part, or interpreting a dock or robot alert. That guide—not a procedure for Combo 10 Max or another Roomba family—is the correct source for details that have not been specified on the product page.
Setup and maintenance mistakes to avoid
- Do not put the dock on carpet, an uneven surface, or within the specified four-foot stair clearance.
- Do not use a tablet for setup when the support instructions call for a phone.
- Do not pair while the phone has silently changed to another Wi‑Fi network.
- Do not assume automatic emptying means the bin, contacts, brushes, or tanks never need cleaning.
- Do not copy the Combo 10 Max filter schedule or another model’s solution dosage.
- Do not buy a generic part solely because its photograph resembles the Max 775 component.
- Do not return a wet component to service when the owner’s guide requires it to be dry.
