Set up the Bosch Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer KFN96APEAG/04 by fitting its rear spacers, positioning it with the rollers only in the forward or backward direction, checking the cabinet with a spirit level, and adjusting the bottom feet. Bosch specifies a slight rearward tilt of about 15 mm (0.5°) at the top so the doors can self-close. Recheck the level after the appliance reaches its final position.
The order matters: the spacers establish rear clearance, the rollers are for positioning rather than side-to-side steering, and the feet both stabilize the cabinet and create the required tilt. The instructions below apply to the KFN96APEAG/04 identified on Bosch’s Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer support page.
Identify the exact appliance before you start
Bosch lists the Series 4 Multi Door American Fridge Freezer model as KFN96APEAG/04. Its support page provides the model-specific user manual, installation instructions, interactive help, and spare-parts and accessory information. Use the full E-number, including the “/04” suffix, when checking documentation or ordering a replacement component; a similar-looking refrigerator can have different feet, spacers, or installation details.

Prepare the tools and working area
You need a spirit level and enough clear space to reach the rear and lower front of the cabinet while it is being positioned. A short spirit level can be easier to place on the appliance top, provided its base sits securely and its vial is easy to read. The important requirement is that the instrument gives a clear reading on a stable surface; do not substitute the apparent alignment of the doors for an actual level check.
- Have the supplied rear spacers and their two screws ready before the final move.
- Use a spirit level with a flat base that will not rock on the appliance.
- Protect the floor and clear the route before moving the refrigerator. The rollers are designed for forward and backward travel, not lateral dragging.
- Keep access to the adjustable bottom feet until the final position has been checked.
- Keep the model’s installation instruction available so any part or clearance question can be checked against the KFN96APEAG/04 documentation.
Do not remove the rear spacers simply to make the cabinet sit closer to a wall. They are part of the installation: Bosch says they maintain a minimum wall distance and support airflow in the lower rear section.
Step 1: Fit the rear spacers
Remove the two screws
At the rear of the appliance, remove the two screws identified by Bosch’s installation instruction. Keep them where they cannot be lost; they are used to secure the spacers supplied in the plastic bag.

Take the two spacers from the plastic bag, position them at the rear mounting points, and fix them using the screws. The spacers establish the minimum distance from the wall and help preserve airflow through the lower rear area. Fit them before pushing the appliance into its final location, because access becomes difficult once the cabinet is close to the wall.
Check the result
Confirm that both spacers are attached and that the screws are secure without forcing them. The purpose is to hold the specified rear gap, not to clamp the appliance tightly against the wall. If a spacer or screw is missing, pause the installation and use Bosch’s model-specific support information rather than substituting an unverified part.
Step 2: Position the cabinet without side-to-side dragging
Use the rollers in their intended direction
Bosch states that the refrigerator’s rollers are intended only for forward or backward movement. Move the cabinet straight along its travel path. Do not pivot it by dragging one side sideways, because Bosch warns that lateral movement may damage the floor.
Approach the final wall position gradually
Move the appliance close to its intended location while leaving yourself enough access to inspect the rear spacers and turn the bottom feet. Do not use a sideways shove to make the last few centimetres. If the route is not aligned, pull or push the appliance back into a straight line before continuing.

Let the spacers define the rear distance
When the appliance reaches the wall, the installed spacers should be the part that establishes the minimum rear separation. Do not compress, remove, or bypass them. The lower rear clearance they provide is part of the installation arrangement described by Bosch.
Step 3: Check the cabinet with a spirit level
Place the level on a stable top surface
Set the spirit level on a flat, stable area of the appliance top. Read the vial only after the level is resting securely and is not bridging a raised edge or rocking. Bosch’s requirement is explicit: “To ensure that the appliance functions correctly, it must be set level with a spirit level.”
Check both directions
Take one reading across the cabinet and another from front to back. These checks identify different errors: one side may be low even when the front looks straight, and the cabinet can appear level across its width while leaning too far toward the front or rear. Repeat each reading after an adjustment rather than assuming a single position is representative.
Use the reading, not the door appearance, as the authority
Door gaps and handle alignment can help you notice an obvious problem, but they are not a substitute for the spirit level. The final setting combines a level cabinet with Bosch’s specified slight rearward tilt, so a visual judgment alone can either miss a side-to-side error or encourage too much backward lean.

Step 4: Adjust the bottom feet
Find the adjustable feet
The adjustable bottom feet are at the lower part of the cabinet. Bosch instructs you to turn these feet until the appliance is level and stable. The feet also provide the needed lower-rear clearance, so they are not merely cosmetic door-adjustment controls.
Make small, alternating adjustments
Turn one foot a small amount, then check the spirit level again. If the cabinet is low on one side, adjust the corresponding foot and recheck across the width. If the front-to-back reading is wrong, adjust the feet that control that lean and take another reading. Work incrementally; large turns can make it harder to tell which change corrected the reading.
Confirm stability
After the bubble is centered in the required directions, make sure the cabinet stands firmly on its feet rather than rocking. A refrigerator that reads correctly but rocks when lightly touched needs another foot adjustment. Recheck the spirit level after stabilizing it, because tightening or changing one foot can alter the reading in the other direction.

Step 5: Set Bosch’s slight rearward tilt
Target approximately 15 mm at the top
Once the cabinet is stable, set the top to lean backward by about 15 mm, which Bosch expresses as approximately 0.5°. This is a manufacturer installation specification for the appliance, not a general rule for every refrigerator. Achieve it by turning the adjustable feet, then verify the result with the spirit level and the cabinet’s final position.
Why the tilt is specified
The rearward tilt helps the doors self-close. It should be slight: the aim is the specified approximately 15 mm (0.5°), not a visibly steep lean. Excessive tilt can make the cabinet unstable, alter clearances, and leave the doors behaving differently from the intended installation.
Recheck level after setting the tilt
Do not treat the tilt adjustment as the end of leveling. Check the cabinet again across its width, confirm that it remains stable, and verify that the rear spacers still establish the wall gap. The final reading should reflect both requirements: the appliance is level in the relevant direction and its top has the small backward inclination Bosch specifies for self-closing doors.
Final installation check
Use this sequence after the feet have been adjusted and the appliance is in its permanent position:
- Confirm that both rear spacers are fitted with the two supplied screws.
- Check that the cabinet has been moved only forward or backward on its rollers and is not being forced sideways against the floor.
- Place the spirit level on the top and check across the cabinet.
- Check the front-to-back reading, allowing for Bosch’s approximately 15 mm (0.5°) rearward tilt.
- Verify that the bottom feet are carrying the cabinet securely and that it does not rock.
- Confirm that the spacers maintain the rear distance instead of the cabinet touching the wall.
- Open and release the doors to make sure the slight backward tilt allows them to self-close as intended.
- Take one final spirit-level reading after the door check, since contact or movement during inspection can change the setting.
If any check fails, adjust the feet in small increments and repeat the relevant spirit-level reading. Do not correct a floor-contact problem by removing the spacers or by dragging the cabinet sideways.
Common setup mistakes and their fixes
The refrigerator is pushed tight against the wall
Symptom: The cabinet reaches the wall before the rear spacers are installed, or the rear appears to have no controlled gap.
Fix: Move the appliance forward enough to access the rear, fit both supplied spacers with the two screws, and then reposition it straight back. The spacers maintain the minimum wall distance and support lower-rear airflow.

The cabinet is judged level by looking at the doors
Symptom: The doors look aligned, but the spirit-level bubble is off-center.
Fix: Follow the spirit-level reading. Adjust the bottom feet, check across the cabinet and front to back, and then recheck the door behavior. Bosch requires leveling with a spirit level; appearance alone is not the prescribed test.

A spacer or foot appears damaged or missing
Symptom: One of the supplied rear spacers, a screw, or an adjustable foot cannot be installed normally.
Fix: Do not assume a generic replacement will fit. Bosch’s model support page provides spare-parts and accessory support for the KFN96APEAG/04; use the exact E-number when identifying a replacement and follow the model-specific installation instruction.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to move the refrigerator later
Bosch gives a specific preparation for a later move: turn the adjustable feet back up before moving the appliance so it can roll freely. Once the refrigerator is in the new location, reinstall or confirm the rear spacers, position it only forward or backward on the rollers, and repeat the complete leveling process.
- Clear the route and align the appliance with the direction of travel.
- Turn the adjustable feet back up so they do not obstruct rolling.
- Move the refrigerator forward or backward only; avoid sideways dragging.
- At the new position, use the spacers to establish the rear wall distance.
- Turn the feet down again until the cabinet is stable and level with a spirit level.
- Set the approximately 15 mm (0.5°) rearward tilt and perform the final checks.
Moving the cabinet is not complete when it reaches the new wall position. The feet have been raised for transport, so the appliance must be re-leveled and re-stabilized at its destination.
When to use Bosch’s model-specific support
Use Bosch’s support page for KFN96APEAG/04 when you need the official user manual, installation instruction, interactive help, or a replacement part and accessory. Enter or verify the complete E-number before relying on a document or ordering a component. Compatibility should be based on the exact model designation, not on the refrigerator’s general Series 4 name.
The support information is especially important if the installation instruction is unavailable, a rear spacer has been lost, or a foot does not match the illustrated part. A generic foot or spacer may have a different fit or installation role, so it should not be treated as interchangeable without Bosch’s model-specific confirmation.
Quick reference: the correct order
| Stage | What to do | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Rear preparation | Remove the two screws, fit both supplied spacers, and secure them with the screws. | Leaving out the spacers or pushing the cabinet against the wall. |
| Initial positioning | Roll the appliance forward or backward into alignment. | Dragging or steering it sideways. |
| Leveling | Read a spirit level on the top in the relevant directions. | Using door appearance as the only test. |
| Foot adjustment | Turn the adjustable bottom feet in small increments until the cabinet is stable and level. | Making large, unverified turns or accepting a rocking cabinet. |
| Door-closing tilt | Set the top approximately 15 mm (0.5°) backward. | Creating a larger lean than Bosch specifies. |
| Later relocation | Raise the feet before rolling, then reinstall and re-level at the new location. | Moving with the feet still down or skipping the final recheck. |
Bottom line
For the Bosch KFN96APEAG/04, fit the rear spacers first, roll the cabinet only forward or backward, and use a spirit level while adjusting the bottom feet. Finish with Bosch’s approximately 15 mm (0.5°) rearward tilt so the doors self-close, then confirm stability, clearance, and level after the appliance is in its final position.
