On the Nothing Phone (3), the Glyph Interface is controlled from Settings > Glyph interface. Turn on Glyph lights for sound-linked light notifications, use Glyph Toys for manually triggered patterns on the rear circular matrix, and configure calls and notifications through the ringtone and notification-sound menus. You can also use the Glyphs Quick Settings tile to switch the lights on or off, schedule periods when Glyph is disabled, or use Flip to Glyph for silent, lights-only alerts.
The labels below come from Nothing’s Phone (3) support guidance checked on October 13, 2026. Nothing OS updates can change capitalization or menu placement, so confirm that your phone is a Phone (3) and check its installed software version if a setting is missing.
What you need before configuring Glyph
Glyph controls are built into the Nothing Phone (3); Nothing’s setup instructions do not identify a separate accessory requirement. Keep the phone available while you work because the ringtone and Glyph Toys menus include previews and rely on the hardware button on the rear.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open the Settings app and look for Glyph interface.
- For the quickest on/off control later, start at the home screen so you can open Quick Settings.
- If the wording on your phone differs, use the model-specific Glyph interface settings and check whether a Nothing OS update changed the menu.
- If you have epilepsy or another light-sensitive condition, read the safety warning before enabling animated or sound-linked lighting. Nothing Support cautions: “The Glyph Interface may not be safe for individuals with epilepsy or other light-sensitive conditions.”
Turn on Glyph lights
Glyph lights are the main switch for the Phone (3)’s sound-linked lighting. Nothing documents two ways to control them: the full Settings path for setup and a Quick Settings shortcut for everyday on/off changes.

Use Settings for the initial setup
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph interface.
- Enable Glyph lights.
Once the switch is enabled, the Glyph interface is available for the phone’s supported call and notification behavior. This switch controls whether the rear Glyph lighting is active; it is separate from the manually activated Glyph Toys section.
Use the Glyphs Quick Settings tile
- From the home screen, swipe down.
- Tap Glyphs.
The Glyphs tile is the convenient route when you only need to turn the lights on or off and do not want to navigate through Settings. If the tile is not visible, return to the full Settings > Glyph interface path and verify the feature there; Nothing’s documented shortcut is specifically the tile labeled Glyphs.
Set up Glyph Toys
Glyph Toys are separate from ordinary ringtone and notification patterns. You first enable the Glyph Toys section and choose which Toys are available, then activate a Toy with the physical Glyph button on the back of the Phone (3).
Enable the section and choose Toys
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph Interface. Nothing’s support pages use both “Glyph interface” and “Glyph Interface” capitalization; the feature is the same.
- Open Glyph toys.
- Turn on the Glyph Toys toggle.
- Select the Toys you want available.
Selection matters: enabling the section alone does not replace the step of choosing the Toys. The selected items are the ones you can call up with the rear control.
Activate a Toy from the rear button
- Locate the pressure-sensitive Glyph button on the back of the Phone (3).
- Press or long-press the button.
- Watch the circular matrix screen for the corresponding Toy pattern or animation.
Nothing describes both a press and a long-press for displaying the relevant Toys patterns or animations. Use the interaction that matches the Toy you selected and keep the rear matrix visible while testing it.

Choose a ringtone and its Glyph pattern
Nothing pairs each ringtone with its own Glyph pattern. You can preview those pairings before choosing the ringtone, so the light sequence is selected as part of the ringtone choice rather than as an unrelated global animation.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Glyph Interface.
- Open Ringtones.
- Tap Default Ringtone.
- Preview the available ringtone and its associated Glyph pattern.
- Select the ringtone you want to use.
The preview is useful when the phone is face down or across a room: you can hear the sound and see the linked light behavior before committing to it. The documented menu concerns the default ringtone; Nothing’s guidance does not state that every third-party application has an individually assignable Glyph pattern.

Customize notification sounds
Notification sounds can be configured in a similar way to ringtones. Nothing says you may choose from original Nothing sounds or import your own sounds, then use the notification-sound setting to select the sound you prefer.
- Open the phone’s Glyph Interface settings.
- Go to the notification-sound controls associated with the ringtone settings.
- Review the available original Nothing sounds.
- If you want a different sound, import a sound supported by the phone.
- Choose the notification sound and save or confirm the selection if the interface asks.
Nothing’s official guidance discusses notification sounds generally. It does not promise a separate custom Glyph mapping for every third-party app, so do not assume that installing an app automatically creates its own light pattern. If you need app-specific behavior, first confirm that the app and your installed Nothing OS version expose such a control; the documented setup only establishes the general notification-sound selection.
Control when Glyph is quiet or disabled
Bedtime Schedule
Bedtime Schedule is the schedule-based option. Nothing describes it as temporarily disabling Glyph at selected times and on selected days.

- Hybrid technology that is made of a TPU bumper with a durable PC back
- Crystal clear transparency flaunts original phone design
- Raised bezels lift screen and camera off flat surfaces
- Pronounced buttons are easy to feel and press, while large cutouts fit most cables
- Spigen Ultra Hybrid Case Compatible with Nothing Phone (3)
- Open Settings > Glyph interface.
- Open Bedtime Schedule.
- Choose the times during which Glyph should be disabled.
- Choose the days to which the schedule applies.
- Save or enable the schedule.
Use this option when you want predictable periods without Glyph activity, such as a recurring overnight window. Because the schedule is temporary and time-based, it is different from turning the main Glyph lights switch off permanently.

Flip to Glyph
Flip to Glyph is a behavior setting rather than a calendar schedule. Place the Phone (3) face up on a flat surface to trigger silent, lights-only notifications and calls.
- Open the Glyph interface settings.
- Find Flip to Glyph.
- Enable it if you want the face-up gesture to control alert behavior.
- Place the phone face up on a flat surface when you want silent, lights-only notifications and calls.
Flip to Glyph and Bedtime Schedule solve different problems: Flip to Glyph responds to how the phone is placed, while Bedtime Schedule responds to selected days and times.
How the Glyph controls differ
The following table keeps the controls distinct so you can choose the right one instead of changing a setting that affects a different kind of alert.
| Control | Where to configure it | How it is activated | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glyph lights | Settings > Glyph interface > Glyph lights | Enable the switch; later use the Glyphs Quick Settings tile | Turns the main Glyph lighting capability on or off |
| Glyph Toys | Settings > Glyph Interface > Glyph toys | Enable the section, select Toys, then press or long-press the rear Glyph button | Displays selected Toy patterns or animations on the circular matrix |
| Ringtones | Settings > Glyph Interface > Ringtones > Default Ringtone | Select a ringtone after previewing it | Uses the ringtone’s associated Glyph pattern for calls |
| Notification sounds | Notification-sound controls in Glyph Interface | Choose an original Nothing sound or an imported sound | Sets the sound used for notifications; official guidance does not establish a unique mapping for every third-party app |
| Bedtime Schedule | Glyph interface settings | Selected times and days | Temporarily disables Glyph during the scheduled window |
| Flip to Glyph | Glyph interface settings | Place the phone face up on a flat surface | Provides silent, lights-only notifications and calls |
A practical first-time setup sequence
If you have just unboxed a Phone (3), configure the interface in this order. Each stage establishes a different part of the experience, so you can test the result before moving on.

Troubleshoot a missing switch or unexpected behavior
The Glyph lights switch is not where expected
Confirm that you are using a Nothing Phone (3), then open the top-level Settings > Glyph interface page rather than relying only on Quick Settings. Nothing’s published route is the authoritative starting point for the feature. If the label or capitalization differs, check the phone’s installed Nothing OS version because menu wording and behavior can change with updates.
The Glyphs Quick Settings tile is unavailable
Swipe down from the home screen and look specifically for the tile labeled Glyphs. The documented shortcut is not the same as the Glyph Toys menu. If you cannot find the tile, use the full Settings path to verify whether Glyph lights are enabled and consult the current Quick Settings arrangement on your software build.
A Toy does not appear when you press the rear button
Return to Settings > Glyph Interface > Glyph toys. Confirm both that the Glyph Toys toggle is enabled and that at least one Toy is selected. Then try pressing or long-pressing the pressure-sensitive rear Glyph button while watching the circular matrix.
You cannot find a per-app Glyph pattern
Nothing’s documented instructions cover ringtone patterns and notification sounds generally; they do not establish that each third-party app receives its own custom Glyph mapping. Use the general notification-sound controls unless your particular app and software version explicitly provide a separate option.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe phone behaves differently at night
Check whether Bedtime Schedule is enabled. Its purpose is to disable Glyph temporarily at selected times and days. Also check Flip to Glyph if the phone is face up on a flat surface, because that setting changes alerts to silent, lights-only notifications and calls.
Safety and software-version notes
Glyph patterns combine sound-linked lighting, animations, and a rear matrix display. Nothing explicitly warns that the interface may not be safe for individuals with epilepsy or other light-sensitive conditions. Treat that warning as a reason to avoid enabling the feature or to seek appropriate medical guidance rather than as a setting you can solve through a brightness adjustment; the support material does not document a separate medical-safety mode.
Finally, treat the paths in this guide as the Phone (3) layout documented by Nothing, not as a guarantee for every future Nothing OS release. If an update changes a heading, search Settings for “Glyph,” verify that the device is the Phone (3), and use the closest current labels. The underlying distinctions remain useful: Glyph lights are the main on/off control, Glyph Toys are manually activated from the rear button, ringtone choices carry associated patterns, notification sounds can be selected or imported, Bedtime Schedule disables Glyph by time and day, and Flip to Glyph provides silent lights-only alerts when the phone is placed face up.
