To activate AT&T Internet, open AT&T Smart Home Manager, sign in with your AT&T ID, and follow the setup prompts for the equipment you received. Fiber uses an ONT and Wi-Fi gateway; Internet Air uses an All-Fi Hub and includes an in-app signal check. The hardware and activation steps differ, so use the path that matches your service.
What do you need before setup?
- Your AT&T ID and password. If you do not have an ID, AT&T says you can create one in Smart Home Manager; internet access is unavailable until the ID is set up.
- The equipment and instructions supplied for your service. Do not assume all AT&T customers receive the same gateway or follow the same connection sequence.
- The AT&T Smart Home Manager app, which guides setup and can help connect devices and check Wi-Fi coverage.
AT&T’s setup article, last updated February 25, 2026, says the app guides customers through unpacking equipment, connecting it to the network, and activating service. Start at AT&T’s Set Up Your Internet page.
How do you activate AT&T Fiber?
Fiber setup depends on the ONT and gateway model supplied. The steps below describe the ONT-to-gateway arrangement in AT&T’s self-install guide; if your equipment or instructions differ, follow the current Smart Home Manager prompts or contact AT&T rather than adapting this sequence.
- Connect the ONT to the gateway’s designated port with the supplied Ethernet cable. The cited guide depicts a yellow cable for this connection.
- Power on the ONT. In that guide, its POWER and PON lights should turn solid green.
- Power on the gateway and allow 10–15 minutes for its Broadband and Service lights to turn solid green.
- Connect a phone, computer, or other device to the Wi-Fi network using the SSID and 12-character Wi-Fi key printed on the gateway.
- If you have not already completed online registration, open a browser and follow the registration flow. The guide calls for an AT&T Access ID and password or, alternatively, your account number and four-digit passcode. If registration is already complete, the guide says service activates automatically within a few minutes.
These timing and light instructions come from an older, model-specific AT&T Fiber self-install guide, not a universal description of every Fiber installation. Do not open equipment or handle fiber connectors based on this guide alone. You normally use the supplied equipment; it does not establish a need to buy a gateway or tools.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How do you set up an AT&T Internet Air All-Fi Hub?
- Install or open Smart Home Manager. Sign in if your service is registered. If prompted to set up equipment, scan the QR code on the base of the All-Fi Hub.
- Plug in the hub and follow the app’s activation prompts.
- Use the app’s signal test at the hub’s chosen location. The Internet Air guide describes green as great signal, yellow as good, and red as a prompt to try another location. Move the hub and test again if the app indicates a better signal may be available.
- Connect your devices with the Wi-Fi name and password shown in the app.
See AT&T’s Internet Air self-install guide for the service-specific flow. If setup gets stuck, that guide lists att.com/support and 800.288.2020 for help. Its edition date is not visible in the document, so app screens may differ from those shown.
How do you connect devices to AT&T Wi-Fi?
After activation, select the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and enter its password: for the Fiber setup described above, use the credentials on the gateway label; for Internet Air, use the credentials shown in Smart Home Manager. The app can also help connect devices and check coverage. You can complete the initial connection with the supplied credentials before deciding whether to personalize the network name or password.

What should you check if activation fails?

- Check AT&T’s internet connection help and outage information. AT&T specifically directs Internet Air customers to check for wireless outages.
- If there is no outage and a restart is appropriate, use the normal restart procedure below. Do not make repeated restarts or factory-reset equipment as an initial activation fix.
- If service still will not activate, contact AT&T support with your account details available.
Restart a gateway or modem
AT&T’s restart instructions, last updated April 2, 2025, say to unplug the power cord, remove an internal battery backup if applicable, wait 20 seconds, restore the battery, and reconnect power. Wait for Broadband to turn solid green; the restart may take up to 10 minutes. For DSL service, follow AT&T’s direction to disconnect and reconnect the phone cord. Smart Home Manager can restart compatible gateways.

If AT&T sent you a replacement gateway, use the replacement instructions rather than treating it as a new-customer activation. Keep your account sign-in information handy and transfer existing connections one at a time. Internet and voice service will be unavailable during replacement; do not unplug the green data cable or power during startup, and wait for Service and Broadband lights to turn solid green.
