To activate a Maya Mobile eSIM, buy a package for the country you will visit, retrieve its QR code or manual activation details from your Maya account, install the plan on an eSIM-compatible phone, then select that line for mobile data and enable data roaming on it. Installation can be completed before departure; the plan normally connects only after you arrive in its covered destination.
Maya says the QR email usually arrives within five minutes of purchase. After activation, data is usually available immediately but can take up to 15 minutes. The timing is operational guidance, not a guaranteed service-level commitment.
What you need before installing
Prepare these items before starting the installation:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- An eSIM-compatible phone: The device must support eSIM profiles. Your phone also needs to be eligible to use another carrier’s service; a carrier-locked phone may reject the plan.
- A Maya Mobile package for the correct destination: A country-specific plan is intended to connect in that destination. Check the package coverage before you travel.
- Internet access during installation: Use Wi-Fi or another working connection while the phone downloads and verifies the eSIM profile.
- Access to your Maya Mobile account: The account contains the QR code and, when needed, the manual activation code.
- The QR code displayed on another screen, if possible: Scanning a code shown on the same phone is usually impractical. A second phone, computer, or tablet can display it.
Do not buy a special handset, QR scanner, printed manual, or physical SIM for this process. The required product is the digital Maya Mobile plan and the installation information supplied with that order.

Buy the plan and retrieve its installation details
1. Select the destination package
Choose a Maya Mobile data package that covers the country where you expect to use it. A plan intended for one destination should not be assumed to work in another country just because the phone can see a network there.
2. Wait for the order email
Maya Mobile’s quick-start guidance says the QR code usually arrives by email within five minutes of purchase. Treat that as a normal operational estimate rather than a guaranteed delivery deadline. If the message is not visible, check your spam or promotions folders and then open the order in your Maya account.
3. Open the eSIM in your account
Sign in to Maya Mobile and open the relevant eSIM or order. Use its installation or manage controls. The QR code and manual activation information are listed under the Installation tab, according to Maya’s account instructions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Keep the account page available even if you plan to scan the QR code. The manual details provide a fallback if the camera cannot read the code, and the account is also useful when you need to confirm which destination package you bought.
Choose an installation method
| Method | Use it when | What you need | Documented device coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| QR-code installation | Your phone can scan a code displayed on another screen | The Maya QR code and an internet connection | iPhone and Android quick-start flows |
| iPhone one-tap installation | Your Maya account shows an install action supported by the phone | Account access and an internet connection | Most Apple devices that show the option |
| Manual activation | Scanning is unavailable or fails | The SM-DP+ address and activation code from the Maya Installation tab | iPhone; a specific Android 13/Google Pixel path is documented |
Installing a profile does not mean that the phone is already connected to a mobile network. The plan can be present on the phone while you are still at home and waiting for the destination network to become available.

Install the Maya eSIM on an iPhone
QR code or one-tap installation
- Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi or another working internet connection.
- Open the Maya QR code on a different screen. If your Maya account presents a one-tap installation option, you can use that instead.
- Open Settings and go to Cellular, Mobile, or Mobile Service, depending on your iOS version and region.
- Tap Add eSIM or the equivalent option to add a cellular plan.
- Choose the QR-code scanner and scan the Maya code, then follow the on-screen prompts to download the plan. With one-tap installation, approve the prompts shown by the phone.
- When iPhone asks how to label the lines, give the Maya plan a recognizable label, such as “Maya Travel,” so you can distinguish it from your home line.
- Keep your primary line available for voice calls and SMS if that is your goal. When iPhone asks which line should provide mobile data, select the Maya line for travel data.
- Open the Maya line’s settings and turn the line on. Enable Data Roaming for that line.
Menu names can move when Apple changes iOS. Look for the cellular or mobile-service section and an option to add an eSIM rather than relying on an identical label across every iPhone release.
Manual activation on iPhone
Use this route when you cannot scan the QR code or the camera repeatedly fails to recognize it. Maya’s manual instructions use the following iOS path:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular, Mobile, or Mobile Service.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Choose Enter Details Manually.
- Copy the SM-DP+ address from the Maya account into the matching field.
- Copy the activation code exactly as displayed in the account.
- Leave the confirmation-code field empty if the phone presents one; Maya’s documented flow says no confirmation code is required.
- Continue through Apple’s prompts, then select the Maya line for mobile data and enable Data Roaming on that line.
Enter the address and code exactly. Extra spaces, missing characters, or selecting the wrong eSIM order can prevent the profile from downloading.
Install the Maya eSIM on Android
QR-code installation
- Connect the Android phone to Wi-Fi or another working data connection.
- Display the Maya QR code on a second screen.
- Open the phone’s SIM or network settings and choose the option to add or download an eSIM. On some phones, the camera can start the process directly when it detects an eSIM QR code.
- Scan the Maya code and continue through the installation prompts.
- After the profile downloads, turn the Maya SIM on, select it as the mobile-data SIM, and enable Data Roaming for that SIM.
Android manufacturers use different settings names and layouts. The quick-start flow is broadly similar, but a Samsung, Motorola, or other Android phone may not use the same menu labels as a Pixel.
Manual entry on Android 13 and Google Pixel
Maya documents a specific manual path for Android 13 on Google Pixel. Use it as a Pixel route rather than assuming that every Android model has identical wording.

- When the QR-help screen appears, choose the manual-entry option.
- Enter the activation information shown in the Maya account’s Installation tab.
- Complete the prompts, then make the Maya SIM the mobile-data line and enable Data Roaming for it.
If your Android model does not expose these labels, search its SIM settings for “add eSIM,” “download a SIM,” or “enter activation code.” Do not copy iPhone-only menu instructions into Android settings.
Configure the lines so data uses Maya
After the profile is installed, verify the phone’s line assignments before expecting data:
- Maya line: On and selected as the line for mobile data.
- Data Roaming on Maya: Enabled. Maya’s travel plan needs roaming enabled on the eSIM to use a partner network in the destination.
- Home SIM roaming: Disabled if you want to avoid your home carrier’s roaming charges. You can keep the home line available for calls or SMS, but its data-roaming switch should remain off unless you deliberately want to use that carrier abroad.
- Automatic data switching: Review any setting that allows the phone to switch mobile data between lines. Disable it if you want to prevent an unexpected fallback to the home SIM.
The exact labels vary by iOS version, Android manufacturer, and region. The important choices are the active line, the mobile-data line, and the roaming switch on the Maya line.
When will the eSIM connect?
You can install the eSIM before leaving home. Installation simply downloads the plan to the phone; it does not make a country-specific plan connect everywhere. According to Maya’s quick-start guidance, the eSIM begins service when the phone is physically in the destination covered by the purchased package.
Once you are in that destination and the line is configured correctly, Maya says a data connection usually appears immediately after activation. Its troubleshooting guidance allows up to 15 minutes because registration can vary with the partner carrier and local conditions. Keep the phone powered on, leave the Maya line enabled, and give the connection that full window before treating a delay as a fault.

Troubleshoot an installed eSIM that has no data
Work through these checks in order. They address the most common configuration causes without removing the installed profile.
1. Confirm the destination
Check that you are physically in the country or destination covered by the package you purchased. A country plan is not expected to connect before arrival or outside that destination. If you bought the wrong destination package, changing phone settings will not make it eligible for a different network.
2. Check the Maya line and data selection
- Confirm the Maya eSIM is turned on.
- Confirm the phone lists Maya as the mobile-data line.
- Confirm Data Roaming is enabled on Maya.
- Confirm the home SIM’s data roaming is off if you are trying to avoid home-carrier charges.
After changing these settings, wait for the phone to register. Do not repeatedly reinstall the same profile while these basic selections are still wrong.
3. Check the APN on Android if required
Maya’s troubleshooting instructions include an Android-specific APN correction. Open the mobile-network or Access Point Names settings for the Maya SIM and create or select an APN with:

4. Refresh the radio connection
- Turn Airplane Mode on.
- Leave it on for about 30 seconds.
- Turn Airplane Mode off.
- Allow the phone time to authenticate, including the possible 15-minute connection window.
This refreshes the phone’s network registration without deleting the eSIM.
5. Try manual network selection on iPhone
If an iPhone still shows no data after the line, roaming, and destination checks, Maya documents manually selecting an available network. In the Maya line’s cellular settings, turn off automatic network selection, choose an available network, and wait for registration. Once a network connects, return network selection to Automatic so the phone can select an appropriate partner network in the future.
6. Avoid deleting the eSIM as an early fix
Maya explicitly warns against deleting an installed eSIM during initial troubleshooting. Removal can eliminate the profile and leave you needing the installation details again. Keep the profile in place while you verify coverage, line selection, roaming, APN settings, and network registration.
7. Contact Maya support after the checks fail
If the phone is in the covered destination, the Maya line is selected for data, roaming is enabled, any applicable Android APN is correct, and the connection still does not work after the refresh and waiting period, contact Maya Mobile support with the order details, phone model, destination, and the exact error or status shown by the phone.
Fix an “Unsupported eSIM” or carrier-lock message on iPhone
If iPhone says that the eSIM is unsupported or that a plan from the carrier cannot be added, check whether the phone is locked to its original carrier:
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Scroll to Carrier Lock.
Maya’s troubleshooting article says No SIM restrictions indicates an unlocked device. If another status appears, contact the original carrier about unlocking before trying to activate the Maya plan. This check explains the specific carrier-lock error described by Maya; it is not a diagnosis for every possible eSIM installation failure.
Installation checklist for departure day
- The Maya package matches the destination.
- The QR code or manual activation details are saved in your Maya account.
- The eSIM profile is installed while you have internet access.
- The Maya line is enabled but is not expected to connect until you reach its covered destination.
- Maya is selected for mobile data.
- Data Roaming is enabled on Maya.
- Data Roaming is disabled on the home SIM if you want to avoid home-carrier roaming charges.
- You know how to return mobile data to your home line after the trip.
Following this order separates installation from activation: first download the profile, then configure the lines, and finally allow the Maya eSIM to register when you arrive in the covered destination.
