To run an OmniFactory server, download the matching Omnifactory 1.3.2 Server.zip pack, extract it into a dedicated folder, use the Java version supported by the pack’s Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge setup, complete the first launch and EULA step, then configure and test the server before inviting players. Every client must use the same OmniFactory release and a compatible Forge profile.

OmniFactory is an expert, technology-focused modpack built around GregTech Community Edition. It is considerably more demanding to install and maintain than a vanilla server because the server, Forge loader, mods, configuration files and client installations must remain aligned.

Which OmniFactory release and Minecraft version should you use?

The release identified for this guide is OmniFactory 1.3.2 (the project and file listing may spell the name “Omnifactory”). Its project metadata identifies Minecraft 1.12.2 and the Forge mod loader. The dedicated-server download is named Omnifactory 1.3.2 Server.zip; the file listing records an upload date of June 18, 2025.

“Latest” is time-sensitive. The version above is the latest release located for this article, not a promise that no newer build exists when you read it. Before downloading, check the project’s current files page and select the server ZIP whose release number exactly matches the client pack you intend to use.

Item Value to match Why it matters
Pack release OmniFactory 1.3.2 Determines the mod list and configuration files.
Game version Minecraft 1.12.2 Newer Minecraft server files are not interchangeable with this pack.
Mod loader Forge Both the server and each client need compatible Forge installations.
Dedicated-server artifact Omnifactory 1.3.2 Server.zip Contains the files intended for a headless server rather than a normal client installation.
File date recorded in the listing June 18, 2025 Useful for identifying the intended build when similarly named files appear.

Do not mix a 1.3.2 server with a different pack release, manually remove mods to make a client “fit,” or assume that a current Forge build is valid for 1.12.2. Treat the server ZIP, its included scripts and its README as one release unit.

What you need before installing

Prepare the machine and the player installations before starting the server. This avoids diagnosing a networking problem when the real cause is a mismatched modpack or an unsupported Java runtime.

  • Learn your way around one block at atime in the new tutorial mode
  • Craft all sorts of items from boats todiamond armor and create enormousstructures
  • Team up with friends in eight-playeronline multiplayer and four-player splitscreen modes

Server machine

  • A computer or virtual machine that can remain powered on while players are connected.
  • Enough CPU time and memory for a heavily modded expert pack. The project metadata does not publish a universal RAM or player-capacity figure, so size the machine from your own player count, view distance and automation load rather than a fixed number.
  • Storage for the live server, generated world, logs, backups and future pack downloads. Keep backups outside the live directory.
  • Permission to create files, run Java and open the listening port through the operating system firewall.
  • A stable local network for initial testing and, if friends connect remotely, a router or hosting arrangement that can expose the selected port.

Software and files

  • The matching Omnifactory 1.3.2 Server.zip downloaded from the project’s CurseForge files listing.
  • Java suitable for Minecraft 1.12.2 and the Forge build supplied or required by the pack. General CurseForge server guidance is to use the Java release appropriate to the specific Minecraft version; do not select a runtime merely because it is the newest one available.
  • A text editor for eula.txt, server.properties and any documented configuration files.
  • The client-side OmniFactory 1.3.2 profile for every player.

Information to decide in advance

  • The folder in which the live server will run.
  • A separate backup location, preferably on another disk or machine.
  • The world name, difficulty, whitelist policy, view distance and listening port.
  • Which person will perform updates and restore backups.

Choose a self-hosted or managed server

Self-hosting gives you direct access to the ZIP, Java process, logs and configuration, but you are responsible for the operating system, backups, updates and network exposure. Managed hosting removes much of that maintenance, but you must confirm that the provider permits custom Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server ZIPs and lets you manage the files required by this pack.

Decision factor Self-hosting Managed hosting
Upfront cost Not stated; depends on hardware, electricity and existing internet service. Not stated; depends on the provider and allocated resources.
Control of files and mods Full control of the server folder, Java process, Forge files and configuration. Depends on the provider; verify custom ZIP upload and file-manager or console access.
Backups and updates You must schedule, verify and store backups and perform pack updates. A provider may offer tools or snapshots, but coverage and retention are provider-specific and not established here.
CPU and RAM allocation Limited by the machine you operate; no universal OmniFactory requirement is published. Defined by the selected plan; compare actual dedicated or guaranteed resources rather than a headline player count.
Network setup You handle firewall rules, router forwarding and address sharing. The provider normally supplies a reachable endpoint; confirm that the service supports this older Forge version.
Player capacity Varies with hardware, world activity, view distance and the number of machines running. Varies with the assigned resources and provider limits; no defensible capacity number is available from the pack metadata.
Compatibility check You control the exact 1.12.2 Forge files. Ask explicitly whether a custom Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server ZIP is accepted before paying.

If you choose hosting, keep a copy of the original ZIP and your world backups. A control panel cannot substitute for a restorable copy of your own data.

Install the OmniFactory server files

  1. Create a dedicated live folder. Use a simple path reserved for this server, such as a folder named for the pack and release. Do not run it from your downloads folder. Create a separate backup directory outside the live folder so deleting or replacing the server cannot delete every backup.
  2. Download the matching server ZIP. Select Omnifactory 1.3.2 Server.zip from the project’s files listing. Confirm that the filename and release match the clients you will distribute.
  3. Extract the ZIP into the live folder. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack. Avoid nesting the real server one level deeper than expected, because launch scripts may use relative paths.
  4. Read the included documentation. Open the README, instructions and launch files before renaming anything or moving subfolders. Script names and startup details can differ between pack releases; use the files shipped with this release rather than copying a command from an unrelated guide.
  5. Check Java from a terminal in the server directory. Run java -version. The result should identify an installed Java runtime. If the command is missing, install the Java release recommended for this 1.12.2 Forge pack or launcher and ensure the terminal can find it. If multiple Java versions are installed, make sure the supplied launch script points to the intended one according to its documentation.
  6. Install or run the supplied Forge server files. Follow the pack’s included script or instructions. Do not substitute a modern Forge installer or a different Minecraft version simply because it is easier to find.

At this stage, do not edit world settings or remove mods. First establish that the unmodified pack can create its initial files.

Complete the first launch and EULA step

  1. Start the server once. Launch it with the supplied script or documented command from the server directory. The first run normally creates the EULA file, configuration files, logs and a world directory.
  2. Wait for the initial process to stop or report that setup cannot continue. If it remains running, stop it cleanly using the console’s documented stop command or the method described by the pack. Avoid killing the process while files are being written.
  3. Open eula.txt. Read the terms. Change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept them. This is an explicit acceptance step, not a setting to enable blindly.
  4. Save the file without changing its name or location. A malformed filename or an accidental extension such as .txt.txt can make the server behave as if the EULA was never accepted.
  5. Start the server again. Use the same supplied script or command. Watch the console until Forge finishes loading and the server reports that it is ready for connections.

The first successful start can take longer than later starts because Forge builds caches and the world is generated. Record the console output if the process exits; the first clear error is usually more useful than the final shutdown message.

Configure server.properties

Stop the server before editing configuration files. Change one related group of settings at a time, restart, and keep a copy of the previous file so you can revert a bad value.

World and gameplay settings

  • World name: Set the level or world name you want the server to load. If you change it after a world has been created, the old world directory remains on disk; back it up before experimenting.
  • Difficulty: Choose the difficulty appropriate for your group. Confirm the exact property label and accepted value in the generated file rather than pasting settings from a different Minecraft edition.
  • Whitelist: Enable it for a private group and add players through the server console or the documented administration command. Test an authorized account before sharing the address.
  • View distance: Start conservatively on a heavily modded server and increase it only after observing tick time, memory use and player experience. Larger distances increase the amount of world data the server must keep active.

Network settings

  • Port: Keep the pack’s configured port unless you have a reason to change it. If you change it, use the same value in the operating-system firewall, router rule and client connection instructions.
  • Address binding: Leave the address setting at the documented default unless you understand which network interface should accept connections. Binding to the wrong local address can make a running server unreachable.
  • Firewall and router: Permit the Java server process and selected port on the host. For remote players on a home network, forward that port from the router to the server machine and give players the externally reachable address. Test from outside your own network; a local connection alone does not prove remote access.

Operational safeguards

  • Back up the world while the server is stopped, or use a documented backup method that produces a consistent snapshot.
  • Never replace the live world with an unverified download. Keep dated copies so you can roll back after a bad update or corrupted save.
  • Do not upgrade the pack, Forge files or Java runtime in the middle of a troubleshooting session. Record the working combination first, then change one component and test.

Install and test the client

  1. Install the same pack release. Every player should install OmniFactory 1.3.2, not merely “the latest OmniFactory” shown by a launcher.
  2. Select the compatible Forge profile. Use the Forge configuration associated with the pack’s Minecraft 1.12.2 release. A client that launches vanilla 1.12.2 or a different Forge build is not an equivalent test.
  3. Let the launcher finish downloading. Do not copy a partial mods folder from another pack. Compare the installed release and let the launcher or pack installer supply its complete files.
  4. Connect locally first. From a client on the same machine or local network, connect to the server’s local address and selected port. Confirm that the player can enter the world, place and break blocks, open machines and leave without a crash.
  5. Test a remote connection. Have a player outside the host’s local network connect using the external address and configured port. This separates router and firewall problems from modpack problems.
  6. Check the server console while testing. Look for missing-mod messages, registry mismatches, rejected handshakes, authentication failures or Java exceptions. Save the relevant log before restarting.

Do not give players a world backup as a substitute for the client pack. The client needs the matching mods and Forge profile; the server needs the authoritative world and configuration.

Troubleshoot the common failure points

The server closes immediately

  • Run java -version from the server directory and compare the runtime with the Java guidance supplied for the pack and Minecraft 1.12.2.
  • Read the first error in the console or latest log, not only the final “server stopped” line.
  • Confirm that the launch script is being run from the extracted server directory and that no required file was moved or renamed.
  • Restore the original files from the ZIP if you edited mods, Forge files or configuration before the first successful start.

The server says the EULA has not been accepted

  • Stop the process and open the eula.txt that was created in the actual live directory.
  • Set the value to eula=true only after reading and accepting the terms.
  • Check that the filename is exactly eula.txt and that the editor did not add another extension.

Players receive a mod or Forge mismatch

  • Compare the client’s pack release with the server’s ZIP name. Both must be OmniFactory 1.3.2 for this setup.
  • Confirm that the client is using Minecraft 1.12.2 and the compatible Forge profile.
  • Do not solve a mismatch by deleting whichever mod appears in the error. Reinstall the complete matching client pack or restore the unmodified server files.

The server works locally but not remotely

  • Verify that the operating-system firewall allows the selected port and Java process.
  • Verify that the router forwards the same port to the server machine’s current local address.
  • Confirm that players are using the external address, while local testing uses the local address.
  • Test from a genuinely external network, such as a phone hotspot. Some routers do not support connecting to the public address from inside the same network.

The world becomes slow after adding machines or players

  • Check the console and server performance while reproducing the slowdown.
  • Reduce view distance before changing mods or world files.
  • Stop the server cleanly and back up the world before any configuration change or pack upgrade.
  • Remember that OmniFactory is an expert, GregTech Community Edition-centered pack; automation networks can create more sustained work than a small vanilla world.

Updating, backing up and recovering safely

Before an update

  1. Announce a maintenance window and stop the server cleanly.
  2. Copy the entire world directory, configuration files and any server-specific scripts to a dated backup location.
  3. Record the currently working OmniFactory release, Minecraft version, Forge configuration and Java runtime.
  4. Read the target release’s README and launch files before replacing anything.

During an update

  1. Extract the new server pack into a new directory rather than overwriting the known-good installation.
  2. Apply only documented configuration changes, carrying over settings such as whitelist and port deliberately.
  3. Start the new installation with a copy of the world first. Never use your only world copy for an untested upgrade.
  4. Connect with a client installed at the exact same release and Forge configuration.

If the update fails

Stop the new process, preserve its logs, and return players to the previous installation and backup. Do not repeatedly launch an incompatible server against the only copy of the world; each failed migration can make recovery harder.
