The correct Xfinity Mobile eSIM procedure depends on what you are doing: moving an existing Xfinity line to another iPhone, converting a physical SIM on the same iPhone, or activating a new line on an iPhone you bring to Xfinity. Choose the matching path before opening Settings. Xfinity’s documented iPhone quick-transfer workflow is for iPhone 12 and later, although availability can vary by model.

For an existing-line transfer, keep both iPhones together, signed in to Apple ID, connected to Wi-Fi, and with Bluetooth enabled. For a new line, use the iPhone’s cellular setup prompts and complete any number transfer in the Xfinity app. If an eSIM is deleted, cellular service normally stops until you download a replacement from your Xfinity account or app.

Choose the right Xfinity Mobile eSIM setup path

These situations use different menus and prompts. Use this table to identify the procedure before you begin.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Your situation Use this route What you need
Existing Xfinity line moving to another iPhone Quick Transfer from Nearby iPhone Both iPhones nearby; iPhone 12 or later for the documented quick-transfer path; Apple ID, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Existing physical Xfinity SIM becoming an eSIM on the same iPhone Settings > Cellular > Convert to eSIM The active iPhone, Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, and Xfinity account credentials if requested
New Xfinity line on an iPhone you bring to Xfinity Set Up Cellular or the Settings notification to install the eSIM An eSIM-compatible iPhone, Xfinity account, and previous-carrier details if transferring a number
eSIM profile accidentally deleted Download a new eSIM from the Xfinity account or Xfinity app Primary or Manager Xfinity ID access and the affected device or line

Do not start a phone-to-phone transfer if you are only converting the SIM already inside the same iPhone. Likewise, a new BYOD activation is not the same as transferring an established Xfinity line.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro, US Version, 512GB, eSIM, Silver- Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.

  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.

What eSIM setup does—and does not—require

An eSIM is the digital cellular profile that iOS installs on the phone. Setup is carrier provisioning through iOS and Xfinity tools, not a hardware repair. You do not need a SIM-eject tool, replacement accessory, or consumable to install it, and you do not have to buy a new iPhone merely to complete activation. If you are replacing a device, an eSIM-capable iPhone can be a shopping consideration, but confirm the iPhone 12-or-later quick-transfer eligibility caveat first.

Xfinity’s quick-transfer guidance is specifically an iPhone-to-iPhone process. In its wording, “eSIM quick transfer works between the same device types,” so an Android-to-iPhone move is not the route described here. Use Xfinity’s regular activation instructions when the device type or model does not support the quick-transfer prompts.

Prepare the iPhone and account

Requirements for an existing-line quick transfer

  • Use iPhone 12 or later for Xfinity’s documented iPhone quick-transfer process. Xfinity notes that eligibility can vary by model.
  • Place the old and new iPhones close together throughout setup.
  • Sign in to Apple ID on both phones.
  • Connect both phones to Wi-Fi and turn on Bluetooth.
  • Install available iOS updates before starting. Different iOS versions can prevent or alter the transfer prompts.
  • Have the Xfinity ID and password available in case account verification appears.
  • Turn off Number Lock if it is enabled on the source line.
  • Use a screen lock on the source iPhone.
  • Keep the old iPhone powered on until the new phone confirms that cellular setup is complete.

Prepare for a new BYOD line

Confirm that the iPhone supports eSIM and is ready for Xfinity activation. Keep the prior carrier’s account information nearby if you want to transfer an existing number. Xfinity completes that number transfer through its app, using information from the previous carrier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Back up before moving service

An eSIM transfer moves cellular service; it is not a substitute for backing up your photos, messages, authenticator data, or other personal content. Complete an iCloud or computer backup before erasing, trading in, or sending away the old iPhone. Do not erase the source phone until calls, texts, and data work on the replacement.

Use the right account access

Normal transfer prompts may request the Xfinity ID and password. Replacement downloads after deletion require the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID, so a secondary account login may not expose the recovery controls. Have the account holder available if you cannot see the affected device or line.

Transfer an existing Xfinity line during new iPhone setup

This is the normal route when the replacement iPhone has not yet completed its initial setup.

  • This device is locked to AT&T only and not compatible with any other carrier.
  • Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
  • When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
  • The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
  • Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
  1. Turn on the new iPhone and place it beside the old iPhone.
  2. Connect the new phone to Wi-Fi when the setup assistant asks.
  3. At the transfer screen, choose Transfer from nearby iPhone.
  4. When the cellular option appears, confirm Transfer Number.
  5. Allow the new iPhone to finish its initial setup. Do not remove the old phone from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth range.
  6. After setup, open Settings > Cellular when iOS prompts you to set up cellular service.
  7. Choose Transfer from another iPhone.
  8. Review the number shown and confirm the transfer.
  9. On the old iPhone, approve Transfer SIM when the approval prompt appears.
  10. If requested, sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
  11. Leave the cellular setup screen open while Xfinity prepares the line. Finish only when the new iPhone reports that cellular setup is complete.

What happens to the old phone

Approving the transfer moves the line to the new iPhone’s eSIM. The old iPhone should no longer provide service for that line after the transfer. Keep it available until you have tested the new phone, because the old device may be needed to approve a delayed prompt or recover from an interrupted setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Transfer an existing Xfinity line after the new iPhone is already set up

If you skipped cellular transfer during the initial setup, you can start it from Settings.

  1. On the new iPhone, open Settings > Cellular.
  2. Tap Set Up Cellular.
  3. Choose Transfer from Nearby iPhone.
  4. On the old iPhone, complete the verification prompt.
  5. Select the Xfinity number you want to move.
  6. Confirm Transfer Number.
  7. Approve the transfer on the old iPhone when it asks.
  8. Enter your Xfinity credentials if the account sign-in screen appears.
  9. Wait on the setup screen until the new iPhone says cellular service is complete.

If the transfer option is missing, check that both devices meet the quick-transfer requirements, are signed in to Apple ID, and are connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Xfinity directs unsupported or failed quick transfers to its regular activation process rather than asking you to repeat an incompatible transfer indefinitely.

Convert a physical Xfinity SIM to eSIM on the same iPhone

Use this route when your Xfinity line already works on the iPhone and you want to replace the removable SIM with an embedded SIM. This does not move the line to another phone.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Choose Convert to eSIM.
  4. Read and accept the on-screen instructions.
  5. Continue through cellular setup. Sign in to Xfinity if iOS requests account verification.
  6. Wait for the conversion to finish before removing the physical SIM.
  7. Return to the cellular settings and confirm that the phone number is labeled Converted to eSIM.
  8. Only after that confirmation, remove the physical SIM if you no longer need it.

The conversion changes the SIM format for the existing line; it does not create an additional Xfinity number. If the conversion does not complete, leave the physical SIM inserted and use the troubleshooting sequence below rather than deleting cellular plans.

Activate a new Xfinity Mobile line on a BYOD iPhone

A new line follows the iPhone’s activation prompts instead of the nearby-phone transfer flow.

  1. Turn on the iPhone and connect it to Wi-Fi.
  2. Look for the Settings notification offering to install the Xfinity eSIM. Tap it and follow the prompts.
  3. If no notification appears, open Settings > Set Up Cellular.
  4. Follow the activation instructions shown by iOS and Xfinity.
  5. When iOS asks how to use the lines, select Xfinity as the default line for calls, texts, and cellular data if it is your primary service.
  6. Enable the Xfinity line for iMessage when prompted, so messages can use the intended number.
  7. Complete activation and wait for the phone to show the Xfinity line as active.

Transfer a number from another carrier

Number transfer is a separate part of new-line activation. Open the Xfinity app and provide the previous carrier’s requested account information, such as the account number and any transfer credentials Xfinity asks for. Keep the old service active until the transfer completes; cancelling it early can cause the number port to fail. The eSIM installation itself does not prove that the number transfer has finished.

Verify that the eSIM is working

Before resetting the old iPhone or discarding a physical SIM, perform a short service check.

  • Open Settings > Cellular and confirm the Xfinity line is turned on.
  • Check that the expected phone number appears under the line.
  • Turn off Wi-Fi briefly and verify that a web page or another data-dependent app loads over cellular data.
  • Place an outgoing call and answer an incoming call.
  • Send and receive an SMS or iMessage using the Xfinity number.
  • Confirm that iMessage and FaceTime show the intended number under their send-and-receive settings.
  • If you use dual SIM, verify which line is selected for cellular data and whether “Allow Cellular Data Switching” is configured as you intend.

After testing, label the plan in Settings > Cellular if you use more than one line. A clear label helps prevent accidentally placing calls or using data on the wrong plan.

Troubleshoot an Xfinity eSIM activation that will not finish

Start activation over Wi-Fi

If setup stalls or the phone reports that activation cannot complete, connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network and retry the cellular setup. Wi-Fi lets the phone contact the activation service even when the eSIM is not yet providing mobile data.

Install a carrier settings update

  1. Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Settings > General > About.
  3. Remain on the About screen for a moment.
  4. If iOS offers a carrier settings update, accept it.
  5. Restart the iPhone and check the cellular line again.

If “Xfinity Mobile” does not appear as the carrier, the carrier-settings update and restart are the first corrective steps. Contact Xfinity support if the line still will not activate after the update and restart.

Check the transfer prerequisites

  • Both iPhones are within a short distance of one another.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on both devices.
  • Both phones are signed in to Apple ID.
  • The source phone has a screen lock.
  • Number Lock is disabled.
  • The old phone remains powered on and unlocked when an approval prompt is expected.
  • The new phone is an eligible model for the quick-transfer method.

Do not delete a plan as a first fix

Removing an eSIM profile can remove network access. If activation is merely stuck, restart and check carrier settings before deleting anything. If you already deleted the profile, use the replacement procedure rather than trying to recreate it with a code from another carrier.

Recover a deleted Xfinity eSIM

Xfinity says that deleting the eSIM profile removes network access until a replacement profile is downloaded. You can request that replacement from the account website or the Xfinity app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the Xfinity account website

  1. Sign in with the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID.
  2. Open Devices.
  3. Select the affected iPhone.
  4. Choose the eSIM download or help option.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the replacement eSIM.
  6. Finish iPhone cellular setup and test calls, texts, and data.

Use the Xfinity app

  1. Open the Xfinity app.
  2. Go to Services > Mobile lines and data usage.
  3. Select the affected line and device.
  4. Tap Download a new eSIM.
  5. Complete the prompts on the iPhone.
  6. Wait for activation, then verify service with Wi-Fi turned off.

Xfinity also describes QR-code and manual-download options. Use the details generated for your own line; never substitute a generic QR code or an activation code belonging to another carrier.

Manually add the replacement eSIM

Use manual entry only when Xfinity directs you to do so or when the normal download flow cannot be used. On the iPhone, open Settings > Cellular (or Settings > Mobile Data on some regional iOS labels), then choose Add Cellular Plan or Add eSIM. Select Enter Details Manually and enter the SM-DP+ address supplied by Xfinity on its support flow.

Do not invent an SM-DP+ address, reuse one from a different account, or scan a generic QR code. The activation details are tied to the specific Xfinity line and replacement profile. After entering the details, follow iOS prompts until the plan appears under Cellular, then complete the service checks.

How to choose between the four routes

Use three questions to avoid the most common wrong turn. Is this a new line or an existing line? If it is new, use BYOD activation; if it already exists, continue to the next question. Are you staying on the same iPhone or moving to a replacement? Staying on the same phone points to Convert to eSIM; moving phones points to Quick Transfer. Finally, is the eSIM profile still present? If it was deleted, stop using the transfer menus and request a replacement through the account or app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This decision also explains why a prompt may not match an online instruction. “Transfer from Nearby iPhone” belongs to an existing-line move, while “Set Up Cellular” can begin a new-line activation or a transfer after the new phone is already configured. Menu wording can vary with iOS version and device eligibility, so follow the closest matching label rather than selecting a different route simply because it appears first.

When to contact Xfinity

Contact Xfinity support after you have connected to Wi-Fi, checked for a carrier-settings update, restarted the iPhone, and confirmed the quick-transfer prerequisites. Have the Xfinity ID, the affected phone number, both iPhone models, and any activation error text ready. Tell support whether you attempted a nearby-phone transfer, same-phone SIM conversion, new BYOD activation, or deleted-eSIM recovery; those are different provisioning cases.

Key points to retain

  • The documented iPhone quick-transfer route applies to iPhone 12 and later, with model-dependent availability.
  • An existing-line transfer needs both iPhones nearby, signed in to Apple ID, and connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Moving service to another iPhone, converting a SIM on the same iPhone, and activating a new line are separate procedures.
  • Deleting an eSIM can stop network access; replace it through the Xfinity account or app.
  • For an activation problem, use Wi-Fi, check carrier settings, and restart before escalating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer an existing Xfinity eSIM to any iPhone?

Xfinity’s documented quick-transfer path is for iPhone 12 and later, with availability varying by model. Both phones must be nearby, signed in to Apple ID, connected to Wi-Fi, and using Bluetooth.

Is transferring an existing line the same as converting a physical SIM?

No. Moving a line to another iPhone uses Transfer from Nearby iPhone. Converting a physical SIM on the same phone uses Settings > Cellular > Convert to eSIM.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if I am activating a brand-new Xfinity line?

Use the Settings notification to install the eSIM, or open Settings > Set Up Cellular. Set Xfinity as the desired default line and complete any number transfer through the Xfinity app.

What happens if I delete the Xfinity eSIM?

Network access can stop until a replacement profile is downloaded. Use the Primary or Manager Xfinity ID on the account website, or choose Services > Mobile lines and data usage > the line and device > Download a new eSIM in the Xfinity app.

Can I use a generic QR code or another carrier’s SM-DP+ address?

No. QR and manual activation details are tied to the specific Xfinity line and replacement profile. Use only the details Xfinity provides for that device.

What should I try when activation is stuck?

Connect to Wi-Fi, open Settings > General > About and accept any carrier-settings update, then restart the iPhone. If service still does not activate, contact Xfinity with the line, device models, and error message.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do I need to keep my old phone after transferring the line?

Keep it powered on and nearby until the new iPhone confirms cellular setup and you have tested calls, texts, and data. The old phone may need to approve a delayed prompt.

The Bottom Line

Match the procedure to the situation: Quick Transfer for an existing line moving to another iPhone, Convert to eSIM for a physical SIM on the same phone, Set Up Cellular for a new BYOD line, and Xfinity’s account or app recovery flow for a deleted profile. Keep eligible iPhones nearby on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, verify service before erasing the old phone, and troubleshoot over Wi-Fi with a carrier-settings update and restart before contacting support.
