To host All of Fabric 6 (AOF6), install the Java runtime supported by your exact AOF6 release, create a clean Fabric server directory, run the Fabric launcher once, accept the EULA, extract the matching AOF6 server pack, and then start the server with the same Minecraft, Fabric loader, mod, and dependency versions that every player uses. AOF6 targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and includes more than 390 mods and over 1,000 quests, so treating it like a small vanilla server usually causes memory, compatibility, or startup problems.

The pack author recommends at least 4 GB of memory for smooth play with five to ten players. That is a baseline, not a universal setting: world size, loaded chunks, view distance, simulation distance, background services, and the host’s CPU all affect the result.

What an All of Fabric 6 server is

All of Fabric 6 is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2. The TeamAOE project listing describes it as having more than 390 mods and 1,000-plus quests. The project distributes a client release and a separately listed All of Fabric 6 Server file. A dedicated server needs the server pack; installing only the client instance on a server commonly leaves client-only files, missing libraries, or an unusable launch configuration.

Choose one exact AOF6 release before you begin. Do not pair a newer client download with an older server pack, or update individual mods on one side only. The server and all clients must agree on the pack’s Minecraft version, Fabric loader, mod files, and required dependencies.

Plan the server before installing

Hardware and storage

TeamAOE’s published guidance is “at least 4GB to run smoothly with 5-10 players.” The figure refers to the modpack’s recommended memory baseline, not the total physical memory of a machine. Your operating system, Java process, file cache, control panel, backup jobs, and other services need memory outside the Minecraft heap.

Use a dedicated folder or virtual machine with room for the server pack, Fabric libraries, configuration files, logs, player data, world saves, and backups. A heavily explored modded world can grow substantially. Keep backups on a different disk or host when possible; a backup stored only in the server directory will be lost with that disk.

Java and Minecraft version

AOF6 is a Minecraft 1.19.2 pack. Fabric’s current documentation recommends Java 21 for Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer, but that statement does not automatically establish the correct runtime for a 1.19.2 AOF6 release. Read the pack’s launch script and dependency notes, install the Java version they support, and make sure the command actually resolves to that installation.

Check the active runtime before launching:

java -version

If more than one Java installation is present, use the full path to the intended executable in your start script instead of relying on the system PATH. A server that silently starts with a different Java version can fail before Fabric loads or produce misleading mod errors.

Network design

A private LAN server normally needs no internet port forwarding. Players on the same network connect to the host’s local address. A public server requires a listening port, an operating-system firewall rule, and a router or cloud-network rule that forwards traffic to the server. Configure exposure separately from the mod installation and open only the port you intend to use.

Download the correct files

  1. Open the official All of Fabric 6 project page on CurseForge.
  2. Record the exact AOF6 release and Minecraft version you intend to run.
  3. Download that release for each player and download the separately listed All of Fabric 6 Server pack for the same release.
  4. Keep the original archives until the server has started successfully; they make it easier to restore a clean copy.

Do not substitute a similarly named server archive from another AOF6 release. If a server pack is updated, update client instances to that same release rather than copying only a few changed JAR files.

Install Fabric in a clean server directory

Use the Fabric installer or executable launcher

Fabric provides a server tab in its installer and an executable server launcher. The executable JAR is a small launcher that starts a Fabric-enabled server using the selected versions. Place it in a new, otherwise empty directory. Keeping the initial Fabric files separate from an existing vanilla or different modpack server prevents old mods and configurations from being loaded accidentally.

From that directory, use the documented command pattern:

java -Xmx2G -jar <fabric server launcher jar file name> nogui

Replace the placeholder with the actual launcher filename. Replace the heap value with the amount in your memory plan; the example command is a launch pattern, not an AOF6 performance recommendation. Leave sufficient physical memory for the operating system and other services. On a machine intended for the pack’s five-to-ten-player baseline, the pack author’s 4 GB recommendation should be treated as the starting point for total server planning, then adjusted after observing logs and tick performance.

Complete the first startup

  1. Run the launcher once. It will create the initial server files and may stop because the Minecraft EULA has not been accepted.
  2. Stop the process cleanly if it remains running. Read the generated console output instead of deleting files at random.
  3. Open eula.txt, review the EULA, and change the acceptance line to eula=true only if you agree to it.
  4. Start the same command again and wait for the server to finish generating its files.

A normal first run creates items such as server.properties, server.jar, a libraries directory, configuration files, logs, and a world directory. Stop the server with the console stop command before copying or replacing files.

Install the AOF6 server pack

  1. Stop the Fabric process and make a backup of the clean directory.
  2. Extract every file from the matching AOF6 server archive into the server directory. Preserve its folder structure rather than placing all JAR files in one folder.
  3. Allow the pack’s launcher, configuration, libraries, and mod files to replace the generic files created during the test run when the archive contains them.
  4. Confirm that the directory keeps the Fabric launcher, server.properties, server.jar, the complete libraries directory, mods, config, and the world directory together.
  5. Run the server again and watch the console from the first line through the final “done” message. Do not invite players until the world loads without missing-dependency or loader errors.

Fabric’s remote-upload guidance specifically calls out the launcher, server.properties, server.jar, and the full libraries directory. Omitting libraries or uploading only the mods folder is a frequent cause of a remote host failing to start.

Configure the first world and server settings

Most routine settings belong in server.properties. Stop the server before editing it, and keep a copy of the original file so you can compare changes.

  • Server name: Set the descriptive name players will see in their multiplayer list.
  • Difficulty: Choose the intended survival difficulty before players begin.
  • View distance: Lower it when CPU load or network traffic is excessive; raise it only when the machine can keep up with additional loaded chunks.
  • Simulation distance: This controls the area where entities, redstone, and other game logic remain active. Reducing it can help a struggling server without changing the visual draw distance by the same amount.
  • Whitelist: Enable it for a private group and add players through the console or server-management interface.
  • Port: Keep the default unless another service already uses it, then update the firewall and router rules to match the new value.

Change one performance setting at a time. Restart, observe the console and tick behavior, and record the result before changing another setting.

Make every client match the server

Each player should install the identical AOF6 release, Minecraft 1.19.2, Fabric loader version, and dependency versions used by the server. Fabric’s mod guidance also requires mods to target the correct Minecraft version, be built for Fabric rather than another loader, and run on Java Edition. Most Fabric mods require Fabric API, which must be present in the version expected by the pack.

Recommended client workflow on Windows

  1. Create and test one client instance using the selected AOF6 release before troubleshooting the server.
  2. Compare the instance’s Minecraft version and Fabric loader with the server’s startup information.
  3. When diagnosing a custom installation, copy only server-compatible mods into the server’s mods folder.
  4. Exclude client-only files such as graphics, shader, rendering, replay, or other interface enhancements from the dedicated server.
  5. Copy configuration files only when the pack or mod requires the same configuration on both sides; preserve a backup before replacing an existing configuration.

A client can launch normally while still being unable to join. The joining handshake checks the server’s mod and dependency set, so a single extra, missing, or wrong-version JAR can produce a mod-mismatch disconnect.

Start, test, and secure the server

Use a repeatable start script

Create a small script in the server directory so every launch uses the same Java executable, heap allocation, launcher filename, and headless option. Keep the console visible during initial testing. Once the server is stable, configure your operating system or host panel to restart it after maintenance, but do not hide logs from the person responsible for troubleshooting.

Test locally before opening the port

  1. Start the server and wait for world generation to finish.
  2. Connect from the host machine or local network using the server’s local address.
  3. Join with a clean AOF6 client and verify that blocks, quests, dimensions, and major mod systems load.
  4. Have a second player connect before publishing the address.
  5. Only after local testing succeeds, add firewall and router rules for remote players.

Keep the whitelist enabled during the test period. Public exposure is a network decision, not a requirement of Fabric itself.

Memory and performance tuning

Start conservatively and leave headroom. The TeamAOE baseline is at least 4 GB for five to ten players, but allocating every gigabyte on a machine to Java can make the entire host unstable. Watch the Java process, operating-system memory, CPU utilization, garbage-collection pauses, and server tick timing while players explore new terrain.

  • Reduce view distance when chunk loading or network traffic is the problem.
  • Reduce simulation distance when active entities and game logic consume CPU.
  • Stop unrelated services, scheduled jobs, and unnecessary control-panel processes on a small host.
  • Pre-generate or explore important areas during a quiet period if your chosen tooling and pack configuration support it.
  • Do not add RAM as the first response to every lag report. A CPU bottleneck, a faulty mod, excessive entity counts, or disk contention will not be fixed by heap size alone.
  • Change one variable at a time, record the result, and revert a change that worsens stability.

Back up the world and configuration before changing the pack, Fabric loader, Java runtime, or individual mods. A clean rollback is safer than trying to reconstruct a working combination from memory.

Self-hosting versus managed hosting

A managed host can remove operating-system maintenance, but it does not remove the need to match the AOF6 server pack. Evaluate a provider against the actual requirements below rather than assuming that a generic “modded” plan supports this pack.

  • discover community creations in the new in-game store
  • access new mini games and game modes through servers
Decision area What to verify
AOF6 import Can you upload the exact All of Fabric 6 server archive and preserve its folders?
Java control Can you select or confirm the Java runtime supported by the AOF6 release?
Resources How much RAM and CPU is allocated, and is the allocation dedicated or shared?
Backups Are automated backups available, where are they stored, and can you restore a specific world and configuration?
Location Is there a region close enough to the players to keep latency acceptable?
Networking Can you set the port, firewall policy, whitelist, and access controls you need?
Console access Can you read complete startup logs and issue commands such as stop?
Updates Can you upload a new pack release while retaining a rollback copy?
Total cost What is the recurring price after any introductory term, and are storage, backups, or extra players billed separately?

Before paying, verify current Java support, AOF6 server-pack import, the available memory, backup restoration, and the provider’s terms. A hosting panel that offers one-click Fabric but blocks custom libraries or server archives is not equivalent to full server-pack support.

Troubleshooting AOF6 startup and connection problems

The server crashes immediately

  • Confirm that the server is running Minecraft 1.19.2 and the Fabric loader expected by the selected AOF6 release.
  • Run java -version and compare the result with the pack’s launch-script and dependency requirements.
  • Check the first error and its “caused by” section in the latest log rather than focusing on the final shutdown message.
  • Restore the original server-pack files if individual JARs were added or updated.

A dependency is missing

Restore the exact dependency supplied by the AOF6 server pack. Downloading a random newer JAR can introduce an incompatible API or loader requirement. Compare the server archive with a clean extraction and remove files that are not part of the selected release.

A client receives a mod-mismatch error

  • Compare the complete client and server mods lists, including filenames and versions.
  • Check that both sides use Minecraft 1.19.2 and the same Fabric loader.
  • Remove client-only mods from the server rather than copying the entire client folder.
  • Replace altered configuration or dependency files with clean copies from the matching release.
  • Have the player launch a fresh instance of the same AOF6 release to rule out leftovers from another pack.

The server runs out of memory or lags

  • Verify that the machine meets the pack author’s 4 GB baseline for the intended five-to-ten-player group.
  • Check whether the operating system is swapping or another service is consuming memory.
  • Lower view and simulation distances and test again.
  • Inspect logs for repeated errors, runaway entities, failed chunk generation, or a mod repeatedly retrying an operation.
  • Increase the heap only when physical memory and CPU headroom remain available.

A remote host will not start the uploaded server

Confirm that the upload includes the launcher, server.properties, server.jar, and the complete libraries directory, as well as the AOF6 mods and config folders. Check the host’s selected Java version and startup command, then read the full console log for a path, permission, or missing-file error.

Updating safely

  1. Record the current AOF6 release, Fabric loader, Java version, and startup command.
  2. Stop the server cleanly and make a restorable backup of the world, server.properties, config, mods, and libraries.
  3. Install the new server pack in a separate directory first instead of overwriting the working installation.
  4. Update every client to the same release before allowing players to join the updated world.
  5. Start the new copy, read the logs, and test with an operator account.
  6. Keep the old directory until the new release has been verified and a rollback window has passed.

Never update one mod in isolation on a production world unless the pack’s release notes explicitly require it. Modpacks are tested as a set, and changing one dependency can affect world data or startup compatibility.
