Amazon Bee is a wearable that captures conversations when you press its physical microphone button, then turns them into summaries, transcripts, and extracted tasks. To set it up, sign in with your Amazon account in the Bee mobile or desktop app, complete the in-app device connection, and test a short recording. You control capture with the button and can see when processing is active from Bee’s LED. Press the button again to stop.

The privacy model is equally important: Amazon says Bee processes audio into insights in real time and deletes the audio afterward. The material that remains—such as transcripts and summaries—is under your account and device-controlled encryption. You can delete those results, and you can keep Bee separate from Alexa unless you deliberately enable the optional Alexa+ connection.

Which Amazon Bee device are you setting up?

Amazon’s current wearable is Bee Frontier. Amazon lists it at $74.99 in 2026. Amazon has also announced Bee Eclipse, a magnetic attachment for a phone, with pricing announced from $99.99; its release timing is described as coming soon. Availability, taxes, and final regional pricing can change, so treat those figures as the 2026 Amazon prices and announcement rather than a guaranteed checkout total.

What you need before starting

  • An Amazon account. New Bee customers can sign in with an existing Amazon account.
  • The Bee mobile app or desktop app. Amazon says both provide conversation summaries and templates.
  • A charged Bee device and the phone or computer you plan to use during setup.
  • A quiet test opportunity in which you can speak briefly and verify that a capture starts and stops correctly.
  • Consent from other people before recording conversations. A visible indicator does not replace local recording-consent laws or a person’s expectation of privacy.

Amazon’s published material does not provide a complete, screen-by-screen Bluetooth pairing sequence with fixed menu names. The exact screens can therefore vary by app version and device. Use the connection flow shown by the Bee app rather than looking for a specific label described elsewhere.

Set up Amazon Bee Frontier

1. Charge and position the wearable

Charge Bee Frontier before its first session, then place it where its microphones are unobstructed and the status LED remains visible to you. The published battery specification is up to seven days; actual runtime depends on how often you capture and process conversations. A visible LED is central to the control model, so do not cover it with clothing or an accessory while testing.

2. Install the Bee app you intend to use

Use the Bee mobile app for on-the-go control and the desktop app when you want a larger view of summaries, transcripts, templates, and extracted tasks. Sign in with your Amazon account when prompted. If you use both mobile and desktop apps, sign in to the same account so the results associated with your Bee sessions appear in one place.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Start the device-connection flow in the app

Open the Bee app and choose its option to add or connect a device, then follow the on-screen instructions. Because Amazon has not published a universal screen-by-screen Bluetooth path, the wording and order of the prompts may differ between operating systems and app releases. Allow the app to complete the connection before trying to record a long conversation.

4. Confirm that the app sees Bee

After the connection flow finishes, check that Bee appears as the active device in the app. If the app still presents the setup prompt, keep the wearable nearby, close and reopen the app, and repeat the connection flow shown on screen. Do not guess at a hidden pairing code or substitute a different Bluetooth menu unless the app specifically directs you to do so.

5. Make a short test capture

Press Bee Frontier’s physical microphone button once. The LED indicates that processing is on. Say a short test sentence, wait a moment, and press the button again. Stopping with the button is the reliable way to end a capture; do not rely on putting the device down or leaving the app.

6. Check the resulting insight

Open the Bee app and look for the test session’s summary or transcript. Bee is designed to turn a conversation into insights, including summaries and extracted to-dos. The desktop app can be useful for checking whether the words, names, and action items were interpreted as you expected before you use Bee in a meeting or interview.

7. Choose an automatic shutoff period

Bee Frontier can be configured to turn off automatically after a selected period with no detected sound. Amazon gives examples such as five or 15 minutes. Choose the interval that matches your routine: a shorter period limits unattended capture, while a longer period reduces interruptions during a quiet meeting. Automatic shutoff is a fallback, not a replacement for pressing the microphone button when the conversation ends.

8. Decide whether you need templates

Bee’s mobile and desktop apps provide templates for conversation summaries. Select a template only when its output matches the type of conversation you are having, then review the generated result rather than treating an extracted task as an unquestionable record. Templates change the way information is organized; they do not change the physical start and stop controls.

How to stop Bee from listening

Use the physical microphone button

Press the microphone button once to start capture and press it again to stop. The LED provides a visual indication that processing is on, so look at the device before discussing anything sensitive. If you are unsure whether a session is active, press the button to end it and verify the status light has changed before continuing.

Use automatic shutoff as a safety net

Set the no-sound shutoff to five or 15 minutes, or another period offered by your device configuration. This setting is designed to stop Bee after it detects no sound for the selected interval. It does not mean Bee is continuously recording until the timer expires: capture still begins only after you press the microphone button.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep the control separate from Alexa

Bee’s microphone button and LED govern Bee capture. Alexa devices have their own streaming indicator and hands-free controls. Muting or disabling an Alexa device does not substitute for stopping an active Bee session, and stopping Bee does not change Alexa’s recording settings.

How to tell whether Bee is recording

The practical check is the device itself: press the physical button to change the capture state and watch the visible LED, which indicates that processing is on. Amazon does not publish a universal color code in the available setup material, so do not infer a particular meaning from a color unless your device documentation defines it. When you finish, press the button again and verify that the processing indication is no longer active.

For important conversations, make this check part of your opening and closing routine. Before speaking, tell participants that you intend to use a recording-enabled wearable and obtain the consent required where you are. At the end, stop capture in front of them and confirm the LED state.

What Bee stores—and what it says it deletes

Raw audio

Amazon’s published statement is: “Audio is processed into insights in real time and deleted after processing.” In other words, Amazon describes the audio used to produce Bee’s insights as being discarded after that processing step. This statement concerns the raw audio path; it does not mean that every resulting transcript, summary, or extracted task disappears automatically.

Transcripts, summaries, and extracted tasks

Bee results can include transcripts, summaries, and extracted to-dos. Amazon says these are intended to be accessible only to you unless you choose to share them. They are retained as account content until you remove them through the available deletion controls. Delete a transcript or summary when you no longer need it, especially after a sensitive project has ended.

Encryption and control of keys

Amazon states that retained transcripts and insights are encrypted with keys controlled by your device. Its privacy material also says: “Only you hold the keys to your information. Amazon has no master key that can unlock your content.” Keep the device and account access that protect those keys secure; anyone who can use your authenticated account may be able to view the Bee results available there.

Review and delete Bee results

Review a session

  1. Open the Bee mobile or desktop app after a capture has finished processing.
  2. Open the relevant conversation result.
  3. Check the transcript against the summary, names, dates, and extracted to-dos.
  4. Correct your own notes or task system rather than assuming an automatically extracted item is complete or accurate.

Bee’s templates can make results easier to scan, but a template is not a legal or factual guarantee. Treat the transcript as an aid and verify decisions against what participants actually agreed to.

Delete a transcript or summary

Use the deletion control provided for the Bee transcript or summary you no longer want to retain. Amazon says users can delete Bee transcripts and summaries. Because the exact button label is not fixed in the published material, look for the item-level delete or remove action in your app version and confirm the prompt before proceeding. Delete both the transcript and any separate summary when you want the complete Bee result removed from your account view.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Think about copies you created elsewhere

Deleting a Bee result removes the Bee item you selected. It does not automatically remove a copy you may have pasted into an email, document, task manager, screenshot, or another service. Search those destinations separately when a conversation has retention requirements.

Sharing Bee insights and connecting Alexa+

Bee results are intended to remain available only to you unless you choose to share them. Sharing can be useful for sending a meeting summary or a task list, but treat every export or share action as a new copy with its own retention and access rules.

Connecting Bee to Alexa+ is optional. The integration enables hands-free access to Bee insights, which creates a deliberate path for those insights to be requested through Alexa+. Enable it only after deciding that the convenience is worth allowing the integration to access Bee information. If you do connect the services, review who can use the Alexa devices on that account and remove the connection when you no longer want hands-free access.

Alexa privacy controls are separate

Amazon’s Alexa FAQ says you can review and delete Alexa voice recordings in Alexa Privacy. Alexa devices show an indicator when audio is streaming, and hands-free Alexa can be disabled through device controls or settings. These controls apply to Alexa voice interactions, not to Bee’s physical microphone button or Bee’s LED.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Use Bee’s button and LED to start or stop Bee capture.
  • Use Alexa Privacy to review or delete Alexa voice recordings.
  • Use Alexa device controls or settings to disable hands-free Alexa.
  • Review the optional Alexa+ connection separately if you enabled it for Bee insights.

Troubleshooting common setup problems

The app does not finish connecting Bee

  • Keep Bee close to the phone or computer while the app’s connection flow is running.
  • Confirm that Bee has enough charge and that the device is powered as described by its supplied instructions.
  • Close and reopen the Bee app, then start its add-device or connect-device flow again.
  • If you use more than one phone or computer, finish setup on one device first instead of starting simultaneous connection attempts.
  • Do not rely on a guessed Bluetooth label or pairing code; use the prompts shown by your Bee app version.

The LED does not show processing after a button press

  • Press the physical microphone button once, then wait briefly for the status indication.
  • Check that the device is charged and that clothing or an accessory is not hiding the LED.
  • End the session with a second button press and repeat a short test after reopening the app.
  • If the status still does not change, stop using Bee for a sensitive conversation until the app and device show a clear capture state.

The transcript or summary is missing

Verify that the test capture was actually started and stopped with the button, then allow processing to complete before checking the app. If the session remains unavailable, repeat with a short recording and inspect it in both the mobile and desktop app if you use both. Avoid assuming that an unlisted session was recorded or that a failed processing attempt created a usable transcript.

Bee keeps running longer than expected

Press the microphone button to stop it immediately, confirm the LED is no longer indicating processing, and check the automatic shutoff setting. A no-sound timeout is designed for periods without detected sound; it may not end a session during a quiet exchange if the device continues to detect audio.

A privacy-first Bee routine

  1. Announce the capture: tell participants you are using Bee and obtain the consent required in your location.
  2. Check the state: press the microphone button to begin and verify the LED indicates processing.
  3. Set a timeout: use a five- or 15-minute no-sound shutoff when that matches the meeting.
  4. Stop visibly: press the button again at the end and check the LED.
  5. Review selectively: open the transcript, summary, and extracted tasks; keep only what you need.
  6. Delete deliberately: remove Bee transcripts and summaries that no longer have a purpose, then remove copies you made in other apps.
  7. Audit integrations: keep Alexa+ disconnected unless you want hands-free access to Bee insights, and manage Alexa recordings through Alexa Privacy.

Bee Frontier or Bee Eclipse?

Choose Bee Frontier if you need the currently listed wearable and want a documented physical button with a visible processing indicator. Its stated battery life is up to seven days, and Amazon lists the 2026 price at $74.99. Consider Bee Eclipse only when its release is available and its final instructions meet your needs; Amazon announced it as a magnetic phone attachment from $99.99 with more than 21 days of manufacturer-specified battery life, but the release timing and detailed microphone-control experience are not stated here.

Whichever form factor you use, the important operating rule is the same: start and stop capture intentionally, watch the status indication, review what Bee retained, and treat any Alexa+ connection as an explicit sharing decision.
