Use txAdmin to restrict a RedM server to approved players. The reliable sequence is: obtain a valid Cfx.re server license key, connect the server to txAdmin, choose and save a whitelist mode, restart the server, then approve players using their RedM identifiers. Menu names vary between txAdmin and hosting-panel versions, so your installation may show the whitelist controls under Settings → Whitelist or Settings → Player Manager.
This guide covers the current txAdmin-based setup, the four access modes, identifier approval, staff permissions, testing, and the version and hosting-panel issues that commonly make a whitelist appear not to work.

A whitelist changes the server from open access to controlled access. When whitelist enforcement is enabled, a player must satisfy the selected rule before joining. Depending on the mode, that rule can be membership in a linked Discord server, possession of a required Discord role, manual approval by an administrator, or administrator status during a lockdown.
On current RedM installations, txAdmin is the normal control point for this feature. You generally do not need to install a separate whitelist resource just to approve players manually. A Discord-linked queue or additional resource may be part of a particular host’s offering, but its setup and availability are not established by the txAdmin procedure described here.

Whitelisting is an access-control setting, not a substitute for server security. Keep the server license key private, give whitelist permissions only to trusted staff, and test both an approved and an unapproved account after every configuration change.
Prepare the server before enabling access control
Have the required accounts and access ready
- A Cfx.re account that can create or view server registration keys.
- Console or hosting-panel access to start and restart the RedM server.
- Access to the txAdmin web panel and an account that can grant staff permissions.
- For Discord-based modes, a Discord server that can be linked and the ability to manage its roles.
- For manual approval, the identifier for each player you intend to admit.
Do not begin by approving players in a panel that is not connected to the running server. First confirm that txAdmin starts and that you can open its web panel from the link printed in the server console.
Expect configuration differences
txAdmin menu labels are not identical across versions and hosting environments. One installation may show Settings → Whitelist; another may place the same controls under Settings → Player Manager. Hosting panels can also hide, replace, or overwrite txAdmin options after txAdmin is enabled. Treat the labels below as the function to find, not as a promise that every screen uses the same wording.
Step 1: obtain a Cfx.re server registration key
- Sign in to the Cfx.re portal.
- Open the Servers area.
- Create or copy a server registration key for this server.
- Keep the key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to associate it with another server configuration.
The key must be supplied to the server configuration before txAdmin can complete a normal server setup. Host guides commonly place it in server.cfg with the sv_licenseKey setting. The exact current syntax and placement should be checked against the Cfx.re server documentation for your deployment because the available documentation evidence does not establish a definitive line for every RedM hosting arrangement.
RedM-specific configuration values
RedM also needs the game name set to rdr3, and the configuration needs an sv_enforceGameBuild value. The build value is not universal: use the value required by your chosen RedM server build and keep the server and client expectations aligned. Do not copy an arbitrary build number from an unrelated tutorial.

After editing the configuration, save it in the location your host actually loads. A common failure is editing a local file while the hosting panel starts the server with a different configuration file. If the console does not show the expected RedM and license settings on the next start, check the panel’s startup profile and generated configuration.
Step 2: connect the server to txAdmin
- Start the RedM server from the console or hosting panel.
- Watch the console output for the txAdmin Web Panel link and its PIN.
- Open the displayed link in a browser and enter the PIN exactly as shown.
- Sign in with the requested Cfx.re account.
- Grant only the permissions each staff member needs. The account completing setup should retain enough access to configure the whitelist and review requests.
If no txAdmin link or PIN appears, stop troubleshooting the whitelist and fix txAdmin startup first. A whitelist cannot be managed from txAdmin until the panel is attached to the running server instance.
When a host provides its own control panel, determine which system is authoritative. Some panels expose a txAdmin toggle but continue to manage startup arguments or selected settings themselves. Record the active server profile before changing access rules so you can identify an overwrite later.
Step 3: choose and enable a whitelist mode
- In txAdmin, open Settings.
- Find the whitelist controls. Depending on the version, select Whitelist directly or open Player Manager and then its whitelist section.
- Select the mode that matches how you intend to manage access.
- Enter a rejection message. Make it clear that access is restricted and tell legitimate players how to contact the server team; do not include private staff details.
- Save the setting.
- Restart the server, even if the panel appears to show the new value immediately. The restart confirms that the running instance loaded the saved policy.
Saving without restarting is a common reason players can still join under the previous policy. After the restart, reopen the whitelist page and verify that the selected mode and message remain present.
Compare the available modes

Choose one policy deliberately. Discord member mode is simplest when every Discord member should have access. Discord role mode gives finer control but fails if roles are removed or the wrong Discord server is linked. Approved License mode gives the clearest individual decision trail, at the cost of processing every request. Admin-only is a lockdown state, not a normal public-community whitelist.

Step 4: approve or deny players
Process pending whitelist requests
- Open the txAdmin player-management area.
- Open Whitelist Requests.
- Review the pending request and the identifiers displayed for that player.
- Choose Approve or Deny according to your server’s admission policy.
- Ask the player to reconnect after approval if they were rejected during their first attempt.
Use a consistent policy for denials. txAdmin’s rejection message is visible to people who cannot join, so avoid putting a private explanation or an identifier in that message. Keep any internal reason in your staff process instead.
Add an approval directly
For a player who has not submitted a request, use Add Approval and then Submit. The value must use the form identifierType:identifier: an identifier type, a colon, and the identifier value with no extra explanatory text. Select the identifier that your server and txAdmin display for that player rather than guessing from a username or character name.
A character name is not a reliable access key. Names can change and may not be unique, while the identifier supplied by the server is intended to identify the account or platform connection. Store approved identifiers in a controlled staff record so another administrator can audit or remove an approval later.
SteamID64 considerations
Some hosts require a Steam Web API Key before a SteamID64 entry can be resolved or used for whitelist management. If txAdmin or your host reports that requirement, obtain and configure the key through the host’s documented process before retrying. Do not publish the key in a ticket, Discord channel, configuration screenshot, or rejection message.

Step 5: give staff the right txAdmin permission
The txAdmin players.whitelist permission controls which staff members can whitelist players. Grant it to the people who should approve, deny, or add identifiers, and leave it off accounts that only need to view server status.

Use the smallest practical staff role. A person who can manage whitelist entries may be able to change who joins the server, so review the permission list when staff responsibilities change. If an administrator cannot see the approval controls, check this permission before changing the whitelist mode or reinstalling anything.
Verify that the whitelist is actually enforcing
Run a controlled test after the restart and whenever you change modes:

Confirm that the connection is rejected and that the configured message appears.
- Approve a test account using its displayed identifier, then have it reconnect. Confirm that it can enter.
- Remove or deny that approval and test again so you know revocation is effective.
- If using Discord member or role mode, test an account with the required membership or role and another account without it.
- If using Admin-only, test with a normal player account and an administrator account separately.
Perform the test with the same server profile and startup method used for normal operation. A test against a development instance does not prove that the production panel is loading the same configuration.

The whitelist menu is missing
Look under both Settings → Whitelist and Settings → Player Manager. Confirm that you are signed in to the txAdmin instance attached to the correct server, not a different server or a host dashboard with reduced controls. If the host panel manages txAdmin settings, use its documented integration page to determine which options it permits.
Players can still join after enabling the mode
- Confirm that you clicked Save and restarted the server.
- Reopen the settings page after the restart and check that the mode was not reset.
- Check whether the hosting panel regenerated the configuration or disabled the txAdmin option.
- Make sure the player is not using an account that is already approved or an administrator account.
- Repeat the test with a genuinely unapproved account rather than relying on a prior session.
An approved player is still rejected
- Check that the identifier was entered in the exact
identifierType:identifierformat. - Confirm that the identifier belongs to the account attempting to connect, not to a different platform account.
- For Discord modes, verify the linked server and the required role or membership.
- For SteamID64 approval, check whether the host requires a Steam Web API Key.
- Ask the player to reconnect after the approval is saved; an existing rejected connection will not necessarily change state automatically.
The setting disappears after a restart
This usually indicates that another configuration layer is authoritative. Compare the txAdmin setting with the hosting panel’s startup profile, generated server.cfg, and any panel-level whitelist switch. Save the policy in the system that actually launches the server, then restart and verify it again.

Discord access does not match expectations
Member mode and role mode are different policies. A member-only policy does not require a particular role; a role policy does. Confirm that the intended Discord server is linked and that the role names and assignments match the mode you selected. If your host advertises a Discord queue or custom workflow, treat that as a separate feature until its own documentation explains how it connects to txAdmin.
Operate the whitelist safely
Maintain an approval record
For manual approvals, record the player identifier, approval date, approving staff member, and any internal note required by your community rules. Restrict that record to staff. This makes it possible to remove stale access without relying on a display name or memory.
Review access when roles change
Discord role mode depends on current role assignments, while Approved License mode depends on the txAdmin approval list. When a moderator leaves, a community member is removed, or a role is renamed, review the corresponding access path. Do not assume that changing a Discord role automatically removes a separate manual approval.
Use Admin-only for controlled maintenance
Switch to Admin-only when you need to prevent ordinary players from joining during maintenance or an incident. Restore the intended member, role, or approved-license mode afterward, save it, restart, and run the two-account test again.
Protect configuration and credentials
- Keep the Cfx.re registration key and any Steam Web API Key out of public logs and screenshots.
- Limit
players.whitelistto trusted staff. - Use a clear rejection message that does not disclose internal identifiers.
- Document which hosting panel or startup profile controls the live server.
- After changing an access rule, verify both rejection and approval rather than trusting the saved form alone.
Which mode should you choose?
Choose Discord member when joining the Discord community is the only gate and you want minimal day-to-day administration. Choose Discord role when applicants, verified players, or staff need different access levels represented by roles. Choose Approved License when every player must receive an explicit decision and you can staff the request queue. Choose Admin-only only when the server should be closed to ordinary players.
