Set up the new Galaxy by completing Samsung’s startup screens, then use Smart Switch to copy data from your old Android, Galaxy, iPhone or iPad. First confirm the exact model in Settings → About phone → Model name or Model number: Samsung uses several F70-like names, including SM-F700F/DS, Galaxy F70e 5G and Galaxy F70 Pro 5G, and menus can vary by model and region.

Confirm which Galaxy F70 you have

Why the model check matters

“Galaxy F70” is not one unambiguous official model name in Samsung’s support materials. The catalog includes SM-F700F/DS, while separate official product pages use the names Galaxy F70e 5G and Galaxy F70 Pro 5G. A carrier or regional retailer may shorten any of those names to “F70.” The transfer process below is based on Samsung Smart Switch and applies broadly, but the wording of a screen, the available settings and the supported categories can differ.

Find the identifying information

  1. On the new phone, open Settings.
  2. Tap About phone.
  3. Record the value beside Model name and Model number.

Keep the model number available if you need help from Samsung or your mobile carrier. Do not reset or exchange the phone until you have confirmed that it is the intended regional variant.

Prepare both phones before moving anything

Keep the old phone switched on and accessible until you have checked the transferred information. Smart Switch can copy much of your personal content, but Samsung does not promise that every app, login, protected folder or app-specific setting will move.

Wireless-transfer checklist

  • Turn on both phones and place them close together, within about 4 inches during pairing.
  • Charge the new phone fully or make sure it has at least 50% battery.
  • Connect both phones to the same Wi-Fi network, or make sure they have enough mobile data for the transfer.
  • Install or update Smart Switch on both phones.
  • Turn on Bluetooth.
  • Move other nearby phones that are running Smart Switch away from the pair so the devices do not connect to the wrong phone.

If the old phone is damaged, cannot stay powered on or cannot install Smart Switch, a cable may be the more practical route. Check the connector on each phone before starting: a USB-C to USB-C data cable works when both phones have USB-C ports; an older connector may require a compatible USB adapter or OTG connector.

Set up the new Galaxy and transfer during first boot

Samsung’s manual describes the core purpose of Smart Switch plainly: “You can use Smart Switch to transfer data from your previous device to your new phone.” The first-boot workflow is the cleanest time to do it because the phone presents the transfer choice before you begin using it.

  1. Turn on the new Galaxy and choose your language.
  2. Tap Start.
  3. Read and accept the displayed terms and conditions.
  4. When setup asks whether to copy apps and data, choose Galaxy/Android for an Android source or iPhone/iPad for an Apple source.
  5. If Samsung offers QR-code quick setup, scan the code with the old phone and follow the prompts shown on both screens.
  6. At the Smart Switch transfer screen, choose Wireless or Cable.
  7. Select the categories you want to copy, then tap Next or Transfer, depending on the screen shown.
  8. Leave both phones powered on and connected until the completion notice appears.
  9. Review the transfer summary before continuing through the remaining setup screens.

A QR code is an optional shortcut, not a separate transfer system. If it is not offered on your phones, open Smart Switch and use its normal wireless or cable workflow.

Transfer wirelessly with Smart Switch

Start the connection on each phone

  1. On the old phone, open Smart Switch and choose Send data → Wireless.
  2. On the new Galaxy, open Smart Switch and choose Receive data → Galaxy/Android or iPhone/iPad → Wireless, matching the source device.
  3. Approve the connection request on the old phone when it appears.
  4. On the new phone, review the available categories and select what you want to copy.
  5. Tap Transfer.
  6. Keep the phones together and untouched until Smart Switch reports completion, then tap Done.

What the wireless method needs while it runs

Wireless Smart Switch uses the phones’ local connection rather than requiring a cable between them, but it still depends on the preparation conditions above: both devices must be on, close, charged, updated, Bluetooth-enabled and connected to the same Wi-Fi network or supplied with sufficient mobile data. A screen lock, incoming call or power-saving shutdown can interrupt a long copy, so leave the phones on a stable surface and connected to power when possible.

Transfer with a USB cable

Connect the phones

  1. Use the new phone’s USB cable to connect the Galaxy to the previous device.
  2. If the previous phone has a different port, attach a compatible USB adapter or OTG connector. Confirm that the cable and adapter support data, not charging only.
  3. When Smart Switch appears on the new Galaxy, choose Receive data.
  4. Tap Connect on the previous device when prompted.
  5. Select the content to copy and follow the prompts to start the transfer.
  6. Keep the cable connected until Smart Switch displays the completion message.

Do not pull out the cable during the transfer. Samsung warns that disconnecting it can cause data loss or device damage. If you need an accessory, look for a USB-C to USB-C data cable for Samsung Smart Switch phone transfer or a phone-to-phone USB-C data cable, and verify both port types and the cable’s data capability before buying. A third-party cable is not automatically endorsed by Samsung.

When cable transfer is the better choice

Use the cable method when wireless pairing repeatedly fails, the phones cannot share a Wi-Fi connection, Bluetooth discovery is unreliable, or the source phone has a port that can be connected with an available adapter. It also avoids keeping the phones within a few inches for the entire pairing stage.

If the Galaxy has already been set up

You can run Smart Switch later from the new phone instead of starting over. Open Smart Switch, choose the receive option and select the source type and connection method. The available categories and prompts are the same in principle, but you may see additional setup screens because the phone already contains your accounts or preferences.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The QR-code route shown during first setup is different. Returning to that first-setup workflow requires a factory reset, and a factory reset erases the data currently on the Galaxy. Do not reset merely to obtain the QR screen unless you have backed up anything already stored on the new phone and are deliberately starting over.

What Smart Switch can and cannot move

Samsung lists the following types of content among the items Smart Switch can transfer. The exact list depends on whether the source is another Galaxy, a different Android phone, an iPhone or iCloud, and some categories may be unavailable for a particular source.

Content What to expect Manual check after transfer
Contacts Listed as transferable; source account and platform affect availability. Open the Contacts app and check names, phone numbers and account assignment.
Schedules and calendars Calendar information is among Samsung’s listed categories, but the originating account can determine what appears. Open each calendar account and inspect several past and future events.
Messages Messages are listed as transferable, subject to source-platform limits. Check recent conversations, attachments and message dates.
Memos Memos can be included when supported by the source. Open the notes or memo application and confirm important entries.
Photos and videos Personal media is a primary Smart Switch category. Check the gallery, albums, dates and several large videos.
Music Music files may be offered for transfer. Play several tracks and confirm that locally stored files are present.
Call logs Call history is listed among transferable data. Inspect recent incoming, outgoing and missed calls.
Documents Supported documents can be selected when the source exposes them to Smart Switch. Open important files from their new storage location.
App-installation recommendations Smart Switch may recommend apps rather than reproduce every app and its private data. Open the app list and reinstall anything essential that is missing.
Selected settings Some settings can transfer, but the available settings depend on the source platform and device. Review display, notification, connectivity and accessibility settings.

Items that often need separate attention

  • App logins and passwords may require you to sign in again.
  • App-specific data and settings can be restricted by the operating system, the app developer or security rules.
  • Protected folders and other security-isolated areas are not guaranteed to transfer.
  • Authenticator apps, banking apps and two-factor-authentication arrangements should be tested manually. A copied app icon does not prove that its account, keys or approval device moved.

Because the source platform changes what Smart Switch can access, do not treat a completed transfer count as proof that every account is ready. Keep the old phone available until the critical checks are complete.

Wireless versus cable: which method should you use?

Decision point Wireless Smart Switch Cable Smart Switch
Reliability Convenient when both phones meet Samsung’s pairing, battery, Bluetooth and network requirements; nearby Smart Switch devices can cause confusion. Usually the better fallback when wireless discovery fails, provided the cable and adapter make a data connection.
Accessories No phone-to-phone cable; both phones still need their normal charging arrangements. Requires a suitable data cable and, for a different connector, a compatible USB adapter or OTG connector.
Setup speed Fast to start when QR or wireless pairing succeeds; the actual duration depends on how much data is selected. Starts immediately after the phones recognize the wired connection and avoids wireless pairing steps.
Phone proximity Keep the phones close, about 4 inches apart during pairing and transfer. The cable determines the distance, so the phones can remain together without relying on wireless discovery.
Old-phone compatibility Requires a supported Smart Switch installation, Bluetooth and a suitable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection. Requires matching physical connectors through a data-capable cable or adapter; source operating-system support still determines which categories appear.

Verify the new Galaxy before erasing the old phone

Use a deliberate checklist rather than opening only a few photos. Mark each item as verified on the new Galaxy:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Contacts: search for several names and confirm that the expected account is selected.
  • Messages: open recent and older conversations, including one with an attachment.
  • Photos and videos: inspect camera albums, screenshots, favorites and at least one long video.
  • Calendar: check recurring events, reminders and shared calendars.
  • Documents and music: open representative files instead of relying on file counts.
  • Calls: inspect recent and missed-call history.
  • Messaging and social apps: sign in and verify that the account opens normally.
  • Authenticator apps: generate a test code or approve a test sign-in before removing the old phone.
  • Banking and payment apps: complete their own device-verification process while the old phone is still available.
  • Two-factor authentication: update recovery methods and confirm that you can receive or generate codes without the old device.

Only after these checks should you consider wiping, trading in or giving away the old phone. Smart Switch’s completion notice means the transfer process ended; it does not certify every app account or protected item.

Fix common Smart Switch problems

The phones do not find each other wirelessly

  1. Confirm that both phones are turned on, Bluetooth is enabled and Smart Switch is installed and updated on each device.
  2. Place the phones within about 4 inches and move other nearby phones running Smart Switch away.
  3. Confirm that both phones use the same Wi-Fi network or that each has sufficient mobile data.
  4. Restart both phones and try Send data → Wireless on the old phone and Receive data → … → Wireless on the Galaxy again.

The transfer stops partway through

Check the new phone’s battery and make sure it is fully charged or above Samsung’s 50% minimum for wireless preparation. Keep both screens awake, reconnect to a stable network and restart the transfer. If the same category repeatedly fails, run a smaller transfer first by deselecting optional categories, then copy the remaining items in a second pass.

The cable is connected but Smart Switch does not appear

  • Reconnect both ends firmly and try another data-capable cable if available.
  • Confirm that an older connector is being used with the correct USB adapter or OTG connector.
  • Unlock the previous phone and accept any connection permission it displays.
  • On the new phone, open Smart Switch manually and choose Receive data.

Do not assume that a cable that charges the phone can transfer files; charging-only cables cannot provide the required data connection.

An app or setting is missing after transfer

This is usually a compatibility or security limitation rather than a failed phone setup. Reinstall the app from its normal store, sign in again and use the app’s own backup or restore process if it provides one. Check the old phone for protected content, app-specific vaults and account data that Smart Switch could not access. For authentication and banking apps, complete the provider’s device-registration steps before retiring the old phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The wrong source type was selected

Return to Smart Switch and start a new receive operation with the correct choice: Galaxy/Android for an Android source or iPhone/iPad for an Apple source. The source choice affects which categories Smart Switch can offer, so selecting the wrong one can make expected content appear unavailable.

Moving from an iPhone or iPad

During setup, select iPhone/iPad when the Galaxy asks where the data is coming from. Smart Switch supports transfer paths involving iOS and iCloud, but Samsung notes that the available categories depend on the source and that some app data and settings are platform-dependent.

  1. On the Galaxy, choose Receive data → iPhone/iPad.
  2. Select Wireless if the phones can establish the required connection, or choose Cable and use the appropriate Apple-to-USB adapter or data cable.
  3. Approve any connection request shown on the iPhone or iPad.
  4. Review the categories Smart Switch makes available, select the items you need and start the transfer.
  5. After completion, verify contacts, photos, messages, calendars and authentication arrangements individually.

Do not infer that an iOS app’s private data will become an Android app’s data simply because the app itself is recommended for installation. Platform and security rules can require a fresh sign-in or an app-specific restore.

Safe finish

The dependable sequence is: identify the exact F70 model, prepare both phones, run Smart Switch by wireless or cable, wait for the completion notice, then test important content and security accounts. Keep the old phone untouched until those tests pass; that is the simplest protection against an incomplete transfer.
