The correct setup depends on the controller edition. A CRKD Xbox guitar needs its input slider on XB, its mode dial on Mode 1, and CRKD’s separately enabled Festival Mode. Other CRKD editions may use direct compatibility or KeyJam Mode instead. A PDP Riffmaster must be set up from PDP’s support instructions for the exact PlayStation, Xbox, or Windows edition; do not apply CRKD button sequences to it.
Identify the controller and platform before connecting anything
Fortnite Festival support is not one universal guitar-controller configuration. The same product family can expose different inputs depending on its console edition, slider position, mode-dial position, firmware, and whether it is operating as a native game controller or as a keyboard-and-mouse device.
Start by reading the label on the guitar, receiver, packaging, or controller app. Record the exact edition and the device on which you intend to play: Xbox One or Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, Windows PC, a Windows handheld, Nintendo Switch, or Android. Then use the matching manufacturer instructions. A mode that is correct for a CRKD Xbox guitar is not automatically correct for a CRKD multi-platform or PlayStation guitar, and none of those CRKD procedures should be assumed to describe a PDP Riffmaster.
| Controller path | What must match | What this guide can verify |
|---|---|---|
| CRKD Xbox guitar | Xbox edition, input slider at XB, mode dial at Mode 1 | Festival Mode is enabled manually; purple or teal LED flashes confirm the state |
| CRKD multi-platform or other listed editions | Exact edition plus its current slider and dial instructions | Compatibility may be direct on some devices or use KeyJam Mode on others |
| CRKD KeyJam configuration | Input slider at PC and the dial position identified as KeyJam/Mode 9 by the model manual | The guitar is presented as a gaming keyboard and mouse |
| PDP Riffmaster | Exact PlayStation, Xbox, or Windows edition and PDP’s matching support article | Use PDP’s official pairing, calibration, firmware, and Fortnite instructions; no CRKD sequence applies |
Five-minute preflight check
- Write down the platform and console generation you will use, not just the brand name.
- Check whether the guitar is an Xbox, PlayStation, multi-platform, or another edition.
- Look for a physical input slider and mode dial; their positions are part of the configuration.
- Have the correct cable, receiver, or wireless accessory identified by the model manual before changing modes.
- Close other controller-configuration utilities while testing, so you can tell which device mode the operating system sees.
- Update only with the firmware package intended for that controller family.
Set up a CRKD Xbox guitar for Festival Mode
CRKD’s dedicated Festival Mode is an opt-in Xbox configuration. It is not enabled at the factory, so an Xbox guitar can power on successfully while still being in standard mode. Festival Mode is compatible only when the physical input slider is set to XB and the mode dial is set to Mode 1.
#1 Best Overall
- MULTI-PLATFORM COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with PC, PC handhelds, Nintendo Switch 1|2, Android devices, including Smart TVs, tablets, mobile devices, and cloud streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna.
- KEYJAM MODE: (Mode 9) transforms the guitar controller into a keyboard and mouse, enabling seamless compatibility with Fortnite Festival on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Powered by CRKD’s KEYJAM Mapping feature, the fret buttons, strum bar, and other inputs are mapped to keyboard controls, while the right thumbstick functions as a mouse for intuitive menu navigation. KEYJAM Mode offers a seamless, plug-and-play experience — making everything from song selection to rocking out smooth, fast, and effortless.
- PREMIUM FRETS & STRUM BAR - Mechanical Frets offer a superior playing experience providing unmatched precision and responsiveness. Hall effect strum bar allows you to customize your actuation point while guaranteeing a long lifespan. Also featuring haptic feedback to give you a tactile feel with each strum.
- MODULAR DESIGN: The modular design allows you to swap out your neck to match your perfect feel. Swap it out for the solo neck design featuring 5 additional solo frets or opt for the classic standard buttons.
- EASY NAVIGATION: Two integrated analog sticks, an ergonomic D-pad on the headstock, and an eight-button navigation hub for easy in-game menu navigation.
1. Set the physical controls
- Turn the guitar off.
- Move the input slider to XB.
- Set the mode dial to Mode 1.
- Keep the guitar powered off while you check both positions. If either control is wrong, the Festival-mode confirmation will not represent the supported Xbox configuration.
2. Enable Festival Mode
- With the guitar still off, press and hold the CTRL button.
- While holding CTRL, power the guitar on.
- Watch the status light. Two purple flashes indicate that Festival Mode is enabled.
- Release CTRL after the startup indication. The mode remains selected until you repeat the toggle procedure.
If you see no purple confirmation, power the guitar off and repeat the sequence slowly. First verify XB and Mode 1, then hold CTRL before switching the power on. Do not substitute a different dial position or assume that a normal power-on has enabled Festival Mode.
3. Return to standard mode when needed
Repeat the same off-and-on sequence: turn the guitar off, hold CTRL, and power it on. Two teal flashes indicate that standard mode has been restored. Standard mode can be useful outside Fortnite Festival, but it is not the dedicated Xbox Festival configuration described by CRKD.
What Festival Mode changes
CRKD states that Festival Mode disables app customization for the fret, strum, whammy, CTRL, and tilt inputs so those controls behave compatibly with Festival. The D-pad remains customizable. If the app appears to ignore changes to one of the disabled controls, that is an expected consequence of Festival Mode rather than evidence that the guitar has failed.

The purple flashes tell you which CRKD mode was selected; they do not by themselves prove that Xbox or Fortnite has completed pairing. After the flashes, complete the normal edition-specific connection process and check that the target device recognizes the guitar. Conversely, a console seeing a powered-on guitar does not prove that Festival Mode is active. Use both checks: the correct LED result and recognition by the platform.
Use the correct CRKD path on other platforms
CRKD’s compatibility information separates direct compatibility from KeyJam Mode. Those are different configurations, not interchangeable names for the same setup.
Directly listed compatibility
CRKD’s multi-platform compatibility chart lists Fortnite Festival for its multi-platform controller on Windows PC, Windows handheld PCs including Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and Legion Go, Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2, and Android devices. For one of these combinations, identify the exact controller edition and follow the current manual for its input slider and mode dial. The chart’s listing does not authorize using the Xbox-only XB/Mode 1 Festival sequence on every guitar.
Direct listing also does not mean that every multi-platform guitar has identical labels or a single pairing procedure. A Switch 1 or Switch 2 setup, for example, must still use the mode and connection instructions for that particular hardware revision. Treat the compatibility chart as a destination list, then use the manual to determine the physical settings that reach it.

KeyJam Mode
The chart separately lists Festival on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC under KEYJAM Mode. CRKD’s firmware notes explain that, on compatible models, Mode 9 becomes KeyJam Mode when the input slider is set to PC. In that state the guitar maps as a gaming keyboard and mouse rather than presenting the same native game-controller inputs used by Xbox Festival Mode.

- ADJUSTABLE TRIGGER SENSITIVITY - Hall Effect sensor triggers allow you to fine tune the actuation point of your triggers to achieve your perfect feel.
- Confirm that your guitar is one of the editions covered by the KeyJam listing.
- Move the input slider to PC.
- Use the dial position identified as Mode 9/KeyJam by that model’s manual. Do not assume that every CRKD guitar labels its dial identically.
- Connect the guitar using the pairing or wired procedure in the model instructions.
- Test the operating system’s keyboard and mouse input before launching Fortnite. A KeyJam guitar can appear to work in the desktop while still having an incorrect dial or slider setting for Festival.
Because KeyJam emulates keyboard and mouse controls, the in-game response and available remapping options can differ from a native controller. Keep the CRKD manual beside you when changing modes; the compatibility label, slider position, and dial position must all agree.
Update CRKD firmware before troubleshooting recognition
Firmware packages are separated by controller family. CRKD’s firmware page lists individual updaters for PlayStation, multi-platform, and Xbox guitars, and the updater is intended for a Windows PC. The page has listed v2.4 for PlayStation, v3.3 for multi-platform, and v3.2 for Xbox at the time represented by the available documentation. These numbers can change, so check CRKD’s current firmware page immediately before updating rather than treating them as permanent requirements.
A firmware update is not a substitute for selecting the right mode. A current Xbox package will not turn a PlayStation or multi-platform guitar into an Xbox Festival controller, and installing the newest-looking package from the wrong family can create a separate compatibility problem.

- Update the CRKD app first.
- Use the app to update the guitar.
- Reconnect and pair the guitar. CRKD says the first reconnection can automatically start a dongle update.
- Watch the dongle. It fast-blinks green while that automatic update is in progress.
- Do not power off, unplug, or otherwise interrupt the process until the update finishes and the connection returns to its normal state.
The automatic dongle update is a separate stage that may occur only after the guitar reconnects. A guitar update that appears complete is therefore not a reason to interrupt the subsequent pairing step. Leave the guitar and dongle together until the app reports that the connection has settled.
Windows updater workflow
When using CRKD’s Windows updater instead of the app, update the guitar and dongle separately. Select the updater for the correct controller family, complete the guitar update, then run the dongle update as a distinct operation. Do not install a PlayStation or multi-platform package merely because it is the newest number; firmware families are not interchangeable.
Connect CRKD to Fortnite without mixing modes
Once the hardware mode and firmware are correct, connect the guitar to the target device using the model’s official pairing method. The important verification is the mode state, not merely whether a power light appears.
- For the CRKD Xbox Festival path, confirm XB, Mode 1, and two purple flashes.
- For standard mode, confirm two teal flashes after the same toggle sequence.
- For KeyJam, confirm PC on the input slider and the model-specific Mode 9/KeyJam dial position.
- For a directly compatible multi-platform setup, use the edition-specific instructions rather than importing either Xbox Festival or KeyJam assumptions.
After the operating system or console recognizes the guitar, open Fortnite and enter Festival. If the instrument is not available, return to the physical slider and dial before changing software settings. A successful wireless connection in another game does not prove that the guitar is in the Festival-compatible mode.
Connection checklist by symptom
| What you observe | First thing to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Guitar powers on but Festival does not list it | Edition, slider, dial, and LED mode result | Power confirms electricity, not a supported Festival input path |
| Desktop responds to fret or strum as typing or clicking | PC slider and KeyJam/Mode 9 setting | KeyJam intentionally presents keyboard-and-mouse inputs |
| App controls are greyed out or unchanged | Whether Festival Mode is enabled | CRKD disables several input customizations in that mode |
| Problem began after updating | Correct firmware family and dongle-update completion | Guitar and dongle may update in separate stages |

Do not use the CRKD CTRL-and-power sequence, CRKD LED colors, or CRKD KeyJam terminology for a Riffmaster. The available PDP documentation reference does not establish a universal pairing sequence, receiver procedure, platform-switch position, firmware process, calibration path, or Fortnite menu sequence. Those details can differ by Riffmaster edition and must come from PDP’s current support article or the manual supplied with that controller.
Safe Riffmaster setup checklist
- Read the controller and packaging labels and identify the exact console edition.
- Open PDP’s support page for that edition, not a guide for a different platform.
- Follow PDP’s stated power, pairing, receiver, firmware, and calibration steps in the order shown there.
- Complete the platform-level connection test before launching Fortnite Festival.
- If Fortnite does not detect the guitar, repeat PDP’s edition-specific detection and calibration instructions rather than applying CRKD mode changes.
This approach is deliberately conservative: a Riffmaster may be the right physical controller for your platform, but an unverified button sequence is more likely to create a new mode or pairing problem than to solve one.
Troubleshoot a CRKD guitar that Fortnite does not detect
No purple or teal confirmation
- Power the guitar fully off before beginning the toggle.
- Hold CTRL before powering on; pressing CTRL after startup is not the documented sequence.
- On the Xbox Festival path, check XB and Mode 1 again.
- Repeat the sequence and watch for exactly two flashes: purple means Festival Mode, teal means standard mode.
- If the LEDs still do not match, stop changing settings and consult CRKD support for the exact edition.
The app will not customize frets, strum, whammy, CTRL, or tilt
First determine whether Festival Mode is enabled. CRKD intentionally disables app customization for those five input groups in Festival Mode. The D-pad remains customizable. If you need those controls to be editable, return to standard mode with the CTRL-and-power sequence, recognizing that this is no longer the dedicated Festival configuration.
The guitar connects but acts like a keyboard
That behavior points to KeyJam Mode rather than the Xbox native Festival path. Check whether the input slider is on PC and whether the dial is on the model’s KeyJam/Mode 9 position. If you intended to use an Xbox Festival guitar, set XB and Mode 1 and enable Festival Mode instead.
The dongle stops responding after an update
If the dongle was fast-blinking green, CRKD’s automatic update was still running. Repeating the update while disconnecting power can leave the process incomplete. Reconnect the guitar, allow the app to finish, and do not interrupt the dongle stage. If the device remains unusable, use CRKD’s official support channel and report the controller edition, firmware updater used, and the point at which the update stopped.
Which support team should handle an unresolved CRKD issue?
Epic’s support page for problems with the CRKD x Fortnite Festival controller directs users to CRKD support. Epic does not provide a separate universal repair procedure on that page. For hardware, mode, firmware, or persistent detection problems, contact CRKD through its official support channel and include the guitar edition, platform, slider and dial positions, LED result, and firmware method.

Is CRKD Festival Mode enabled by default?
No. CRKD describes the Xbox Festival configuration as user-enabled. A normal startup does not establish that Festival Mode is active; use the off, hold-CTRL, power-on sequence and look for two purple flashes.

Can I use the Xbox XB/Mode 1 sequence on a CRKD PlayStation or multi-platform guitar?
Do not assume that you can. The XB/Mode 1 combination is documented for the CRKD Xbox guitar. Other editions use their own direct-compatibility or KeyJam instructions, so confirm the model in the current manual first.

Why does my CRKD guitar work on my computer but not in Festival?
The computer may be seeing a different input mode. Check whether the guitar is in KeyJam Mode, with the PC slider and the model’s Mode 9/KeyJam dial setting, or whether it is in the direct-compatible mode required by your edition. A desktop response alone does not verify the Festival configuration.
What should I do if a Riffmaster is not detected?
Use PDP’s support article for the exact Riffmaster edition and follow its stated connection, firmware, and calibration procedure. Do not try CRKD LED colors, CTRL toggles, slider settings, or KeyJam steps; those belong to a different controller family.
Do CRKD firmware version numbers stay the same?
No. CRKD lists separate PlayStation, multi-platform, and Xbox updater families, and the displayed versions can change. Check the current CRKD firmware page on a Windows PC and select the package matching the guitar family.
Quick decision guide
| If you have… | Use this configuration | Avoid this mistake |
|---|---|---|
| CRKD Xbox guitar and Xbox Festival | XB slider, Mode 1 dial, CTRL-held startup, two purple flashes | Assuming a normal startup enables Festival Mode |
| CRKD Xbox guitar and ordinary controller use | Repeat the toggle for two teal flashes | Expecting Festival-only app behavior in standard mode |
| CRKD model listed for KeyJam | PC slider and the model’s KeyJam/Mode 9 setting | Using XB/Mode 1 on an edition that requires KeyJam |
| CRKD multi-platform model on PC, a listed handheld, Switch, or Android | Follow the direct-compatibility instructions for that edition | Assuming every multi-platform model has the same dial labels |
| PDP Riffmaster | PDP’s support article for the exact edition | Applying CRKD LED, CTRL, slider, or KeyJam procedures |
The reliable order is: identify the edition, select the documented hardware mode, update the correct firmware family, verify the platform sees the guitar, and only then launch Fortnite Festival. When a controller remains undetected, the edition-specific manufacturer support page is more authoritative than a generic sequence copied from another guitar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CRKD Festival Mode enabled by default?
No. It is opt-in on the Xbox guitar. With the guitar off, hold CTRL while powering on; two purple flashes confirm Festival Mode.
Can I use CRKD’s Xbox setup on another CRKD guitar?
Not automatically. Confirm the exact edition, slider position, and mode-dial instructions in that model’s manual. Other guitars may use direct compatibility or KeyJam Mode.
Why does my CRKD guitar act like a keyboard?
That usually indicates KeyJam Mode. Check for the PC input-slider position and the model-specific Mode 9/KeyJam dial setting.
