The safest way to add a live map to a current 7 Days to Die dedicated server is to use its built-in web dashboard. Copy your server configuration, enable WebDashboardEnabled and EnableMapRendering, choose a reachable web port (8080 is the documented default), restart, and open the server address in a browser. For the older Google-Maps-style interface at /legacymap, install Alloc’s server mods instead; that route adds features but requires disabling EAC and therefore removes crossplay compatibility.

Choose the right live-map method

There are two separate implementations, and they should not be mixed. The built-in dashboard is the preferred starting point for current dedicated-server builds because it is controlled by the server’s own configuration and does not require third-party DLLs. Alloc’s legacy map is a mod-based alternative for administrators who specifically need its older interface or additional data.

Route What players open Required components Main trade-off
Built-in dashboard and map http://SERVER-IP:8080/, or your chosen port Web dashboard enabled; map rendering enabled Permissions and anonymous access use the version-specific V3 web schema.
Alloc’s legacy map http://SERVER-IP:8080/legacymap Allocs_Core, Allocs_Commands, Allocs_Webinterface, plus the game’s web and map components Its DLL-based package requires EACEnabled=false; crossplay will not work.

The current Modding Wiki server guidance treats WebDashboardEnabled as the master switch for the built-in web server. A second switch, EnableMapRendering, is necessary before map tiles can be produced. The WebAPI documentation is marked current for version 3.3.0, while the dedicated-server guide was updated on 16 June 2026. If your installed release differs, use the configuration generated by that release rather than copying an old tutorial.

Choose the built-in route when compatibility, EAC, crossplay, and fewer moving parts matter most. Choose Alloc’s route only after confirming that every player can use a server with EAC disabled and that the package matches the exact game build. Installing both interfaces at once can make permissions, URLs, and troubleshooting needlessly confusing.

Prepare the server before changing settings

Confirm that you are running a dedicated server

This procedure applies to the dedicated-server tool (Steam app 294420), not a listen server started from the game client. You need file access to the server installation, permission to edit its configuration, and a way to restart it.

Schedule a stop or maintenance window

Stop the server cleanly before editing XML or installing a mod. If you cannot stop it immediately, announce a maintenance window; changing the active file while the process is running can leave you unsure which values were loaded. Keep a current world backup before making a configuration or mod change so you can roll back without losing player progress.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make a configuration copy

Copy the shipped serverconfig.xml to a separate file, such as myserver.xml, and edit the copy. The 2026 dedicated-server guidance recommends this arrangement so a game update does not overwrite your customized settings. Start the server with that file after saving it, and keep a backup of the working copy before future updates.

Record which file the service, startup script, or hosting panel actually passes to the server. A common failure is editing one XML file while the process starts with another. Keep the selected filename, dashboard port, router destination address, and any web users or tokens in your administrator notes.

Plan the network ports

The web dashboard listens on TCP 8080 by default. The game itself uses different ports: the 2026 server guide lists TCP and UDP 26900, plus UDP 26901 and 26902, as defaults. A map browser needs the web port; forwarding only the game ports will not make the map reachable.

Service Default port and protocol Forward or allow when
Web dashboard and map 8080/TCP Always, if people outside the server host’s network must view the map
Game traffic 26900/TCP+UDP Players connect to this dedicated server
Additional game traffic 26901–26902/UDP Required by the server’s normal game networking

If you select another dashboard port, allow that TCP port in the host firewall and forward it from the router to the server’s LAN address. Test from an external network, such as a phone connection, rather than only from the same LAN; local access can succeed even when NAT forwarding is wrong. If your Internet address changes, use the current public address or your existing hostname when testing.

Decide who should see the map

A private map for people on the same LAN needs no public forwarding. A map for remote players requires a reachable dashboard port, but it does not require exposing every web module. Decide whether the page should be restricted to web users, available only through a VPN or reverse proxy, or intentionally public as a read-only view. That decision determines the least-privilege permissions you should configure later.

Set up the built-in live map

1. Enable the dashboard and renderer

Open your copied configuration file and add or change these properties:

<property name="WebDashboardEnabled" value="true" />
<property name="WebDashboardPort" value="8080" />
<property name="EnableMapRendering" value="true" />

Keep the XML syntax intact: property names and values are case-sensitive in the shipped examples, and duplicate entries can make it unclear which value the server uses. If those properties already exist, edit the existing entries rather than adding a second copy. Save the file as plain XML, not as a rich-text document.

2. Start with the edited file

Launch the dedicated server using the copied configuration file. Watch the startup log for web-server or map-rendering errors. The dashboard cannot appear if the process was started with a different configuration than the one you edited. A clean startup should also make it possible to distinguish a network problem from a renderer or configuration problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Open the dashboard

From a machine that can reach the host, browse to http://SERVER-IP:8080/. Replace SERVER-IP with the host’s LAN address for local access or its public address for Internet access. If you changed the port, use that value in the URL. Test locally first, then test from outside the LAN once local access works.

When a reverse proxy sits in front of the server, proxy the dashboard’s internal port and set the external dashboard URL to the complete public URL, including its scheme, host, path (if any), and port. A proxy that forwards only the game ports will not serve the web interface. Check that the proxy preserves the path and does not redirect the map to an internal hostname that remote browsers cannot resolve.

4. Configure users and modules for your release

Current V3 builds reorganized web access. Their generated configuration uses sections or objects named webusers, apitokens, and webmodules. Older guides often show a webpermissions block. Do not paste that older block into a newer server without first inspecting the configuration generated by your installed version.

Create web users with strong, unique passwords. If an integration needs an API token, generate a dedicated token rather than reusing an administrator credential. Grant only the module permissions needed for the map, and do not make administrative endpoints public merely to allow a read-only map view. After changing permissions, sign in with a non-administrator test account and confirm that it can view the map but cannot perform administrative actions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Allow tile generation

A successful dashboard response does not guarantee that the map is ready. The renderer must create tiles, and a newly enabled server may need time before explored areas appear. Keep the server running, confirm EnableMapRendering=true, and check the log for map-rendering failures if the map remains blank. An unexplored area may legitimately have no rendered tile yet; compare the map with an area that players have already visited.

6. Check the running API documentation

The server exposes an interactive documentation viewer at http://your.server.address:port/rapidoc.html. The WebAPI guide recommends this page because it describes the endpoints, parameters, and response formats actually exposed by the running build. Replace the example host and port with your server’s values, and protect the page if your proxy exposes it to the public Internet. The viewer is especially useful after an update, when endpoint names or permission modules may differ from an older guide.

Install Alloc’s legacy interactive map

Choose this route only when the legacy interface or its additional data is more important than EAC and crossplay support. It is independent of the built-in dashboard map, although it still relies on the game’s web-server and map-rendering components.

1. Obtain the matching package

Use a release compatible with the exact game/server version. The package should contain the three components identified in the hosting instructions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Allocs_Core
  • Allocs_Commands
  • Allocs_Webinterface

The game normally supplies the TFP command, map-rendering, and web-server components. Do not assume that a mod package replaces those built-in components. Keep a copy of the downloaded package and note its version so you can reproduce the installation after an update.

2. Place each mod under Mods/

Extract each mod folder directly under the server root’s Mods/ directory. Verify that every folder contains its expected ModInfo.xml and DLL. An extra nesting level, such as Mods/PackageName/Allocs_Core/ when the server expects Mods/Allocs_Core/, can prevent loading. Do not rename component folders unless the package instructions explicitly require it.

3. Enable the required server settings

In the server configuration, enable the web dashboard and map rendering as you would for the built-in route. Set EACEnabled=false before starting the server. Because this package contains DLLs, the stated consequence is that crossplay will not work with the live map installed; players on incompatible client or platform combinations may no longer be able to join. Tell players about this compatibility change before the maintenance window.

4. Restart and verify mod loading

Restart the server and inspect the startup log for each Allocs component. Resolve missing-DLL, version, or folder errors before testing the URL. A page that returns 404 usually means the web-interface mod did not load, the path is wrong, or the request is going to a different port. If the server fails to start, remove the new folders or restore the saved configuration to isolate the incompatible component.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Open the legacy endpoint

With the documented default web port, open http://SERVER-IP:8080/legacymap. Use the configured port if you changed it. The route is case- and path-sensitive; a request to the root dashboard is not the same as a request to /legacymap. Test the endpoint locally before forwarding it through a router or proxy.

6. Apply permissions cautiously

An older provider example uses these serveradmin.xml levels for web.map: 2000 for everyone, 1000 for all players, and 1 for admins. Treat those numbers only as a starting point for the release documented by that provider. Current V3 documentation may use the reorganized web-module model instead, so verify the installed server’s generated permissions and test with a non-administrator account. Never assume that a numeric level from an older version means exactly the same thing in a current build.

Secure and publish the map

Keep game and web exposure separate

Forward only the dashboard port needed for map viewing; the game ports and web port serve different purposes. If the map is intended for players on a private LAN, bind or firewall it for that network rather than publishing it to the whole Internet. If you use a reverse proxy, expose the proxy’s public port and keep the dashboard’s internal port restricted to the proxy host.

Protect credentials and tokens

Use long, unique web-user passwords and treat API tokens like passwords. Remove unused accounts and rotate tokens after sharing configuration files or logs. Never place a token in a public screenshot, browser bookmark shared with players, or client-side script. Store a recovery copy of credentials in a protected administrator location, not in the public server directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not expose administration for convenience

A public map does not require public access to every dashboard module. Grant the least privilege that produces the map view, and keep administrative and write-capable endpoints behind authentication or a private network. The running rapidoc.html page helps identify what the server exposes, but it is not a reason to publish every endpoint.

Decide whether crossplay is essential

The built-in route preserves the normal server compatibility model. The Alloc route requires EAC to be disabled and, according to its installation guidance, removes crossplay. If players use multiple platforms or rely on anti-cheat, choose the built-in map even if the legacy interface is more familiar.

Self-hosting effort and managed hosting

Running the map yourself has no separate map subscription, but it does require ongoing administration: SteamCMD or another server installation method, XML and permission backups, firewall and router rules, update testing, log review, and mod maintenance. The time cost is usually more significant than the web setting itself, particularly when the server is behind NAT or a changing public address.

Managed 7 Days to Die server hosting charges for the provider’s infrastructure and control panel instead of leaving those tasks to you. Before paying for a plan, ask whether it supports the game version you run, custom dashboard ports, EnableMapRendering, scheduled restarts, backups, web users or tokens, and installation of Alloc’s components if you need the legacy route. A panel that edits ordinary game settings but does not expose the web-dashboard settings may still require manual support. Confirm the provider’s EAC and crossplay policy as well; a host cannot remove the Alloc compatibility trade-off.

Troubleshoot the most common failures

Symptom Checks Likely correction
Dashboard does not open Confirm the server is running with the intended configuration file; check WebDashboardEnabled; verify the selected port is listening; inspect host and router firewall rules. Start with the edited copy, allow TCP on the configured port, and test from an external network if NAT is involved.
Dashboard opens but the map is empty Check EnableMapRendering=true, confirm the map-rendering component is enabled, and review the server log. Enable the renderer and leave the server running long enough for explored tiles to be generated.
/legacymap returns 404 Verify Allocs_Webinterface is directly under Mods/, contains its expected files, loaded at startup, and is being requested on the dashboard port. Correct the folder nesting or package version, restart, and use the exact /legacymap path.
Players cannot connect after installing the legacy map Check whether EAC was disabled and whether the server and clients support the same game/mod version. Restore a compatible configuration or remove the DLL-based route if crossplay is required.
Permissions differ from an old tutorial Inspect the generated V3 configuration and the running server’s rapidoc.html documentation. Use the current webusers, apitokens, and webmodules model instead of assuming an old webpermissions block still applies.
Works locally but not remotely Test the public address from outside the LAN; check the router’s destination LAN address, public IP, firewall, and reverse-proxy configuration. Forward the dashboard TCP port to the correct host and ensure the proxy’s external URL points to the dashboard service.
Map works after restart, then disappears after an update Check whether the update regenerated serverconfig.xml, changed the selected startup file, or invalidated a mod. Reapply the saved settings to the update’s generated configuration, verify the startup command, and retest the current API and mod logs.
Only administrators can see the map Review the current web-user and module permissions, then test with a normal account. Grant the map’s read permission only, without exposing administrative modules or tokens.

Maintenance after the map goes live

Back up the working configuration

Keep the customized XML, permission files, mod files, and a note of the external port together with your normal world backups. A configuration copy makes it easier to recover after an update that regenerates the shipped defaults. Include the reverse-proxy configuration if one is used.

Recheck compatibility after every game or mod update

Version-sensitive web permissions and mod APIs can change. After updating, compare the newly generated configuration with your saved copy, verify that the three legacy components still load if you use them, and open rapidoc.html to see the current API surface. Test both the map URL and a real player account before announcing that maintenance is complete.

Monitor logs and access

Review startup and web logs after restarts, especially when the map is blank or a permission unexpectedly grants or denies access. Remove stale accounts and tokens, and revisit router rules if the server’s LAN address changes. Keep an eye on disk space as rendered map data accumulates, and include that data in your backup and retention plan where appropriate.

Recommended decision

Use the built-in dashboard first: copy the configuration, enable WebDashboardEnabled and EnableMapRendering, open the configured TCP port, create restricted web access, and verify tile generation. Select Alloc’s legacy map only when its interface or extra data justifies disabling EAC and losing crossplay, and then keep its files and permissions matched to the exact server release.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which port does the live map use?

The built-in web dashboard uses TCP 8080 by default. If you change WebDashboardPort, allow and forward the replacement TCP port; the game’s 26900–26902 ports are separate.

Why is the dashboard visible but the map blank?

Set EnableMapRendering to true, confirm the map-rendering component is enabled, and allow time for explored tiles to be generated. Check the server log for renderer errors.

Can I use Alloc’s map with crossplay?

No. The DLL-based Alloc package requires EACEnabled=false, and its installation guidance states that crossplay will not work. Use the built-in map when cross-platform access is required.

What should I do when an old tutorial mentions webpermissions?

Inspect the configuration generated by your installed V3 build. Current web access uses webusers, apitokens, and webmodules; old permission blocks may not apply.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How can I verify the API for my exact server version?

Open the running server’s rapidoc.html page on its configured web port. It lists the endpoints, parameters, and response formats exposed by that build.

Do I need to forward the map port for LAN players?

No, not if every viewer is on the same LAN and the firewall allows local access. Internet viewers require TCP forwarding to the server’s LAN address and an external-network test.

The Bottom Line

For most current servers, enable WebDashboardEnabled and EnableMapRendering in a copied configuration, expose TCP 8080 securely, and use the built-in map. Install Alloc’s legacy interface only if its extra features outweigh disabling EAC and losing crossplay.
