To set up a Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2, first identify the exact machine type, installed operating system, power adapter and rear-port configuration. Then connect a monitor to HDMI or DisplayPort, attach a keyboard and mouse, connect Ethernet or confirm Wi‑Fi hardware, and complete the operating system’s first-run wizard. After reaching the desktop, install model-specific Lenovo drivers and firmware updates. The M75q Gen 2 family was sold in many configurations, so ports, wireless hardware, accessories and even the preloaded operating system can differ from one unit to another.
What you need before starting
Clear a desk near the monitor and network connection, then gather the items below. Do not assume that a used or refurbished system contains every accessory shown in a product photograph.
- The ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 Tiny computer and its matching power adapter.
- A monitor with an available HDMI or DisplayPort input.
- A video cable that matches the monitor input and the computer output.
- A USB or wireless keyboard and mouse.
- An Ethernet cable, or a Wi‑Fi network and credentials if the computer has a WLAN module.
- Headphones, speakers or a headset if you need audio at the desk.
Lenovo lists accessory bundles with “None” for monitor cables, keyboards and mice. Check the actual box or seller listing before purchasing replacements. The M75q Gen 2 was offered with 65 W and 90 W power-adapter options; use the adapter supplied for your specific unit rather than assuming that any adapter with the same connector is interchangeable.
Identify your exact M75q Gen 2 configuration
Before plugging anything in, read the machine-type and model information on the chassis label or packaging. Record the installed operating system, processor, storage, memory, wireless option, optional rear ports and adapter rating. Lenovo’s M75q Gen 2 specifications cover several regional and configuration combinations, and the company notes that specifications can change without notice.

Check the operating system
Systems in this family were sold with Windows 11, various Windows 10 editions, Ubuntu, IGEL Linux or no preloaded operating system. A no-OS configuration is not evidence of a missing Windows license. If your unit has no operating system, you must obtain installation media and a license, where required, from the operating-system vendor and follow its current installation instructions.
Inspect the rear panel
Every configuration has onboard HDMI 1.4b and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, but an optional rear-port module may add VGA, a second DisplayPort, a second HDMI connector, serial, or USB‑C with DisplayPort function. Compare the ports on your physical computer with the monitor connections you plan to use. Do not plan a three-screen arrangement from a generic photograph.
Verify wireless hardware
Some units include a WLAN/Bluetooth module, with Lenovo listing multiple Wi‑Fi 5 and Wi‑Fi 6 options. Others were configured without WLAN or Bluetooth. Look for wireless hardware in the order documentation or Windows/Linux device list; if it is absent, use Ethernet or install only a module that Lenovo lists as compatible with your exact machine type.

Set the computer on a firm surface with its ventilation openings clear. Avoid placing it inside a closed drawer, directly against a wall, or beneath papers that can block airflow. Lenovo lists a vertical stand as an option, but the stand is not needed for initial setup.
A VESA bracket is also optional. Lenovo lists 75 mm and 100 mm mounting support. Before buying a bracket, confirm the monitor’s VESA pattern, the bracket contents, screw length and clearance around the power button, ports and ventilation openings. Mounting the PC behind a display can make ports harder to reach, so connect and test everything first if possible.
Connect power and a first monitor
- Place the computer and monitor where you can reach the power switches and rear connectors.
- Connect the Lenovo-supplied adapter to the computer’s power input and then to a grounded outlet or surge protector.
- Connect the monitor’s power cable and switch the monitor on.
- Use a cable that matches both devices. Connect the monitor to the M75q Gen 2’s HDMI 1.4b or DisplayPort 1.4 output.
- Select the corresponding HDMI or DisplayPort input on the monitor if it does not switch automatically.
- Press the ThinkCentre power button and wait for the Lenovo logo or operating-system setup screen.
The front USB‑C connector is specified for data transfer; it is not a guaranteed video output. Video over USB‑C is available only when the computer has the optional rear USB‑C port with DisplayPort function. If a monitor remains blank, move the cable to the standard rear HDMI or DisplayPort connector before troubleshooting the operating system.

Resolution and refresh expectations
Lenovo’s graphics table lists connector-specific limits for supported integrated-graphics configurations. DisplayPort is listed up to 3840×2160 at 60 Hz. HDMI is listed up to 3840×2160 at 30 Hz or 2560×1440 at 60 Hz for the listed graphics paths. Actual results depend on the processor graphics configuration, monitor, cable and active display path. Set the monitor to a supported resolution and refresh rate in the operating system rather than assuming that every connector can drive every combination.
Plan a multi-monitor desk
Lenovo lists support for up to three independent displays when onboard and optional display outputs are used. That is a maximum for supported configurations, not a promise that every M75q Gen 2 has three usable video connectors. Count the physical outputs on your unit and check each monitor’s input before ordering cables or adapters.
| Display plan | What to check | Practical connection |
|---|---|---|
| One monitor | Monitor input, cable type and the computer’s available HDMI or DisplayPort output | Use one direct HDMI-to-HDMI or DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort connection |
| Two monitors | Two physical video outputs and the resolution/refresh target of each display | Use the onboard HDMI and DisplayPort, or an installed optional rear output |
| Three monitors | Three supported outputs, including any optional rear module, plus connector-specific limits | Use onboard and optional outputs; verify the exact graphics configuration first |
After connecting the screens, open the operating system’s display settings, choose “Extend” rather than “Duplicate” if you want separate workspaces, and arrange the displays by dragging their numbered rectangles to match their physical positions.
Attach the keyboard, mouse and audio
Plug a USB keyboard and mouse into the front or rear USB ports. Lenovo also lists wired and wireless keyboard/mouse configurations, as well as bundles with no keyboard or no mouse. For wireless sets, connect the receiver or pair the devices according to their instructions; keep a wired keyboard available if pairing is required during first boot.
The front 3.5 mm connector is a headphone/microphone combination jack. Connect a headset there and select it as the input and output device in the operating system’s sound settings. USB headsets, speakers and webcams can use the computer’s USB ports. The specifications establish connectivity, not a requirement to purchase any particular accessory.

Connect the network
Wired Ethernet
- Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the router, switch or wall jack.
- Plug the other end into the M75q Gen 2’s rear RJ‑45 port.
- Wait for the link lights and allow the operating system to obtain an address automatically.
- During setup, test a website or the operating system’s network-status page.
Lenovo lists Gigabit Ethernet on the M75q Gen 2 configurations. Wired networking is usually the simplest first connection because it does not depend on wireless drivers, signal strength or a saved password.

Wi‑Fi
If your unit includes a WLAN module, select the wireless-network icon during the operating system’s first-run flow, choose your network name and enter its password. Stay near the access point for the initial setup. A no-WLAN/Bluetooth configuration will not show available Wi‑Fi networks until compatible hardware is installed, so use Ethernet instead.
If Wi‑Fi is missing after installation, check the exact machine type in Device Manager on Windows or the network settings and hardware list on Linux. Install a Lenovo-provided WLAN driver only for the installed module and operating system. Do not assume that a random wireless card will fit, be whitelisted by the firmware or include the correct antenna leads.
Complete the installed operating system’s first-run setup
Once the monitor, input devices and network are connected, power on and follow the prompts for the operating system already installed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWindows systems
- Choose your region, keyboard layout and accessibility options.
- Connect to Ethernet or select a supported Wi‑Fi network when prompted.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account or choose an available local-account path offered by that Windows edition.
- Review privacy, diagnostic-data, backup and update settings instead of accepting every option blindly.
- Allow the setup process to finish, then leave the computer connected to power while updates are applied.
The M75q Gen 2 product family includes several Windows editions, but the specifications do not establish that every used unit includes a transferable Windows license. If activation fails, check the machine’s original license documentation and Microsoft’s current licensing guidance.
Ubuntu or IGEL Linux systems
Follow the prompts for the installed distribution, including keyboard layout, user account, network and update settings. Menu names differ by release. If you intend to replace the installed system, back up any data first and obtain installation media and licensing or subscription information required by the distribution or organization managing the device.
A computer with no preloaded OS
Do not interpret a blank screen or boot prompt as proof that Windows is included. Use the operating-system vendor’s current installation media, verify that the target drive is selected correctly, and keep the Lenovo machine type available so you can obtain matching drivers afterward.

Install Lenovo drivers, firmware and BIOS updates
After reaching the desktop, connect to the internet and identify the exact machine type. Lenovo Support provides model-specific drivers, firmware and UEFI BIOS packages, and the M75q Gen 2 Hardware Maintenance Manual directs users there for these updates.
- Open Lenovo Support and search by the machine type printed on the computer, not only by the family name.
- Choose the installed operating system and review the available driver, firmware and BIOS entries.
- Read each package’s release notes, prerequisites and supported models.
- Install chipset, graphics, network and audio drivers as applicable to your hardware.
- Apply a BIOS update only when the package matches the exact machine and the release notes justify it. Keep the adapter connected and do not interrupt power during the update.
- Restart when prompted and recheck Device Manager or the Linux hardware list for unknown devices.
Do not use a BIOS file intended for another ThinkCentre model or assume that the newest package is automatically required. A failed or interrupted firmware update can prevent the computer from booting and may require service procedures described in the maintenance manual.

Set display behavior
Choose the recommended native resolution for each monitor, set scaling that keeps text readable, and select the primary display. Enable night-light or equivalent color settings only if they suit your work; these settings change appearance but do not increase the monitor’s physical capability.
Set sleep and power options
Configure screen-off and sleep timers for your work pattern. A short screen timeout protects an unattended desk, while a longer sleep delay may help during large downloads or remote sessions. Keep automatic updates enabled unless your organization manages them centrally.
Secure the account
Use a strong, unique account password and enable a PIN, fingerprint reader or other supported sign-in method. Turn on the operating system’s firewall and automatic security updates. Remove unknown user accounts from a second-hand computer and perform a clean operating-system installation if you cannot verify the previous owner’s software state.
Recommended Free Tools
Prepare backups
Set up file backup to an external drive or a trusted storage service before moving important work onto the mini PC. A backup protects documents if the SSD fails, the operating system becomes corrupted or a later upgrade goes wrong; it does not replace a license or recover an account password.
