Use the Ledger as the signer and keep its Secret Recovery Phrase offline; use your Saga or Seeker only as the mobile interface. Initialize a genuine Ledger Nano X or Nano S Plus in Ledger Wallet, install Solana support, add an account, and approve every transaction on the Ledger Secure Screen. Solana Mobile’s Seed Vault can protect separate phone-based wallets, but importing your Ledger phrase into the phone defeats the hardware wallet’s security model.

What a secure Ledger–Solana Mobile setup actually does

A Ledger hardware wallet and a Solana Mobile phone protect keys in different places. The Ledger keeps its private keys and Secret Recovery Phrase in its Secure Element. Ledger Wallet on a phone or computer prepares transactions, but the Ledger device must physically approve them. The phone therefore acts as a wallet interface, not as the place where your Ledger account’s private key lives.

Saga and Seeker phones add another option: Seed Vault. Solana Mobile describes Seed Vault as an isolated security environment separated from Android and other apps. It can authorize transactions without exposing the private key to ordinary applications, using a Seed Vault password or optional biometrics. Seed Vault is a separate signer from your Ledger account; it does not turn the phone into a copy of the Ledger.

The safest arrangement is to decide which signer you intend to use before every transaction. For long-term holdings or larger transfers, use the Ledger account and confirm the details on the Ledger screen. For a mobile-native wallet created inside Seed Vault, approve through Seed Vault’s own authorization flow. Never restore the Ledger phrase into Seed Vault, a phone keyboard, a browser extension, a support chat, or a website.

  • Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.

Before you start: equipment, software and security checks

  • A genuine Ledger device. Ledger has identified the Nano X and Nano S Plus as Solana-supported models, but the supported lineup can change.
  • A phone or computer that can run the current Ledger Wallet application, plus a compatible Saga or Seeker if you want Solana Mobile features.
  • A private place for initialization. Do not set up the device while someone can see the PIN or recovery words.
  • Paper or a durable metal backup for the Secret Recovery Phrase. The backup must remain offline.
  • A reliable charging cable or sufficient battery, and the latest versions of the relevant wallet applications available for your device and region.

Do not buy a pre-initialized device, accept a recovery phrase supplied in the box, or continue if packaging or the device appears altered. A new Ledger must generate its own phrase during setup. Ledger support staff will never need that phrase, and neither will Ledger Wallet.

Choose and inspect a genuine Ledger signer

Nano X versus Nano S Plus

Both the Nano X and Nano S Plus were named by Ledger as supporting Solana in its 2022 announcement. The practical difference for this setup is connectivity and convenience: choose the model that your current phone, cable, operating system and Ledger Wallet version explicitly support. Do not infer compatibility solely from a product name, because app versions, operating systems and regional availability can change.

If you plan to use a phone frequently, check the current connection method shown by Ledger Wallet before purchase. A model may support Solana while a particular mobile connection, cable, or operating-system combination is unavailable. For a computer-based workflow, confirm that the desktop Ledger Wallet application recognizes the device before moving funds.

Inspection checklist

  1. Buy through Ledger or an authorized channel and keep the receipt until setup is complete.
  2. Check that the shipping package and device show no signs of tampering.
  3. Power on the Ledger yourself. It should ask you to set a PIN or choose an initialization path, not display a prewritten phrase.
  4. Reject any card, email, screen, or support message that gives you a recovery phrase or asks you to reveal yours.

Initialize Ledger Wallet and protect the Secret Recovery Phrase

Install the official wallet application

Install Ledger Wallet from Ledger’s official distribution for your operating system. The application is available on mobile and desktop. Avoid links in unsolicited messages and verify that the publisher is Ledger before installing. Open the application only after the Ledger device is connected and ready to initialize.

Set the device PIN

  1. Choose the option to set up a new Ledger device.
  2. On the Ledger itself, create a PIN that is difficult for another person to guess. Enter it on the device, not on the phone or computer.
  3. Keep the PIN private. Anyone who can unlock the device and obtain your phrase or authorize you to approve a transaction can potentially control the account.

Write and verify the recovery words

  1. Let the Ledger generate the Secret Recovery Phrase. Do not use words supplied by another person or generated by a website.
  2. Write every word in the exact order shown on the device. Record the spelling and position carefully.
  3. Complete the device’s verification prompts. This confirms that your backup matches what the Ledger generated.
  4. Store the written phrase offline in a place protected from fire, water, theft and casual discovery. A metal backup can improve physical durability, but it must still remain offline.

Ledger describes the phrase as the ultimate backup and says it must never be shared, including with Ledger. Do not photograph it, place it in cloud storage, paste it into notes, or type it into a phone. The phrase can recreate the wallet on a replacement device, so possession of it is equivalent to control of the account.

Add Solana and create the Ledger account

  1. Unlock the Ledger with its PIN and open Ledger Wallet.
  2. Use the application’s device or account management area to install or enable Solana support. The exact label can differ between mobile and desktop releases.
  3. Choose the option to add an account and select Solana.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts while the Ledger displays the account setup request. Keep the device unlocked and connected until the account appears.
  5. Record the resulting public Solana address only after checking it on the Ledger and in Ledger Wallet.

The public address is safe to give someone who is sending you SOL. The private key remains on the Ledger; Ledger Wallet does not need to display it for normal receiving or sending. For a first transfer, send a small test amount, wait for it to arrive, and then use the verified address for a larger amount.

Connect the Ledger to Saga or Seeker without moving the key to the phone

What the Solana Mobile integration means

Ledger announced an integration with Solana Mobile for Saga users in 2022, including transfers between a Solana Mobile phone and a Ledger. That announcement does not guarantee that every Ledger model, wallet release, operating system, cable or region supports every current feature. Seeker support and connection behavior should likewise be confirmed in the current wallet prompts for your exact phone and Ledger model.

Use the current supported connection flow

  1. Update Ledger Wallet and the Solana Mobile software through their normal update channels. Restart both devices if an update completes.
  2. Open the Solana-compatible wallet function on Saga or Seeker and select the option to connect an external hardware wallet or Ledger account.
  3. Choose the connection method presented for your model. Depending on the release, this may involve a cable, a supported wireless connection, or a handoff between applications. Do not approve an unexpected pairing request.
  4. Unlock the Ledger and open the Solana application when prompted. Keep the device visible so you can read its screen.
  5. Allow the phone to view the Ledger account’s public address. A connection that only reads public information does not expose the private key.
  6. When you initiate a transfer, review the transaction on the Ledger Secure Screen and physically approve it there. The phone’s confirmation is not a substitute for the Ledger’s screen.

If you use Seed Vault on Saga or Seeker, set it up as its own wallet. Seed Vault can hold up to eight seeds, each using a 12- or 24-word phrase, according to Solana Mobile’s 2025 description. Those seeds belong to phone-side wallets and have their own setup and restore process. They are not a destination for your Ledger phrase.

Receiving SOL on the Ledger account

  1. In Ledger Wallet or the connected Solana wallet interface, select the Ledger Solana account and choose Receive.
  2. Display the address on the Ledger when the application offers verification. Compare the address shown on the device with the address on the phone character by character.
  3. Give the verified public address to the sender or copy it through a trusted channel.
  4. After the transfer is sent, wait for the wallet to show the confirmed balance. Keep the transaction identifier if you need to troubleshoot with the sender.

Never ask a sender to use a shortened address, a screenshot with missing characters, or an address copied from an untrusted message. Solana addresses are case-sensitive strings; one altered character can send funds elsewhere.

Sending SOL: the Secure Screen is the final authority

  1. Open the Ledger Solana account and choose Send.
  2. Paste or enter the recipient’s address and specify the amount and network fee shown by the wallet.
  3. Check the recipient address, amount, token and network in the phone interface before continuing.
  4. Read the same details on the Ledger Secure Screen. Scroll through every screen rather than approving immediately.
  5. Compare the first and last characters of the recipient address with the address you intended to use, and verify the amount and network.
  6. Approve physically on the Ledger only when every detail matches. Reject the request if the address, amount, fee or network differs.
  7. Wait for Ledger Wallet to report submission and confirmation. Do not disconnect during signing unless the application reports an error and tells you it is safe to do so.

Clear Signing is the security benefit of this workflow: transaction details are shown on the device before approval. A compromised phone can still display a misleading request, so approving from the phone alone is not sufficient.

These are alternatives, not layers that should share one phrase. You can keep a Ledger account and one or more Seed Vault accounts on the same phone, but label them clearly and verify which account is selected before signing.

Recovery, replacement and phrase protection

If the phone is lost or replaced

A lost Saga or Seeker does not reveal the Ledger private key when you used the Ledger as the signer. Install Ledger Wallet on a replacement device, connect the initialized Ledger, and add the Solana account again. The account’s public address and balance should reappear because the key remains on the hardware device.

A Seed Vault wallet follows a different recovery path. Use only the documented restore flow for that phone wallet and its own phrase or backup. Do not substitute the Ledger phrase.

If the Ledger is lost or damaged

Use a genuine replacement Ledger and choose its restore option. Enter the Secret Recovery Phrase only on the replacement hardware device, following Ledger’s documented on-device process. Do not type it into Ledger Wallet, a phone, a computer keyboard, a website or a support form. After restoration, verify the Solana public address before using the account.

If the phrase may have been exposed

Treat a phrase entered into any phone, computer or website as compromised. Do not continue depositing into that account. Initialize a new hardware wallet with a newly generated phrase, verify its new Solana address on the device, and move assets using carefully checked transactions. Do not attempt to “change” the old phrase; a recovery phrase cannot be edited.

Troubleshooting common connection and signing failures

Ledger Wallet cannot find the device

  • Unlock the Ledger and open the Solana application when requested.
  • Try the cable, adapter or wireless method specified for your exact phone and model.
  • Close other wallet applications that might be holding the connection.
  • Restart the phone and Ledger, then confirm that Ledger Wallet is current.
  • If the model or operating system is not listed as supported, use the desktop application or wait for an officially supported connection rather than installing unofficial software.

The Solana account address does not match

Stop before signing. Disconnect and reconnect the Ledger, then add the account again from the hardware device. Compare the address displayed on the Ledger with Ledger Wallet. If the address still differs, check that you selected the same account index and network and contact official Ledger support without revealing the phrase.

A transaction is rejected or remains pending

  • Check that the Ledger is unlocked, the Solana application is open and the approval was completed on the device.
  • Confirm that the wallet shows enough SOL for both the transfer and the network fee.
  • Review the recipient address and amount again; do not repeatedly approve an unfamiliar request.
  • Use the wallet’s transaction status and identifier to determine whether the transaction failed, is pending, or was confirmed.

Seed Vault asks for authorization unexpectedly

Read the request and identify which Seed Vault account is active. Approve with the Seed Vault password or biometric only when you intentionally initiated the action. If the request appeared without your action, reject it and close the application.

The phone shows a Ledger account but signing fails

Seeing a public address does not prove that the signing channel is ready. Reopen the Ledger Solana application, verify the connection permission, and use the exact wallet flow currently supported for your phone and Ledger model. If the phone offers to import a phrase, cancel; a Ledger account should be connected as a hardware account, not restored into the phone.

Operational checklist for every transfer

  • Confirm whether you are using the Ledger signer or a Seed Vault signer.
  • Check the selected account and public address.
  • Read recipient, amount, token, fee and network in the wallet interface.
  • For Ledger transactions, read the complete request on the Secure Screen and approve physically.
  • Keep the Ledger phrase offline and never disclose it.
  • For a new recipient, send a small test amount first.
  • Retain the transaction identifier until the balance is confirmed.

Bottom line

Set up the Ledger independently, keep its recovery phrase offline, and use Saga or Seeker as a controlled interface rather than a place to store the Ledger key. Nano X and Nano S Plus are the Ledger models identified for Solana support, while the exact mobile connection depends on the current model, wallet release, operating system and region. Seed Vault is useful for separate phone-native wallets, but the Ledger’s security advantage exists only when its phrase stays off the phone and every transaction is checked and approved on the hardware device.
