Connect the mouse, identify its exact model and generation, then install the software that matches it. Most supported Glorious mice work immediately as a basic pointer; Glorious CORE adds button remapping, macros, DPI, polling-rate and lighting controls. Older wired Model O/O- and Model D/D- V1 mice are exceptions: they require their separate legacy utilities rather than CORE.
1. Identify the exact mouse and generation first
“Model O” or “Model D” is not precise enough to choose software. Glorious has wired V1, wireless V1, O 2, D 2, PRO, V3 and other generations whose controls and utilities can differ. Read the product name on the underside, packaging or original order, then match it to the corresponding entry in Glorious’s Product Guides index.
This check prevents the most common setup error: installing a utility that cannot communicate with the mouse. The current CORE page specifically excludes Model O/O- Wired V1 and Model D/D- Wired V1, while newer families have their own model guides. Do not infer compatibility from the family name alone.

Useful identification clues
- Model O/O- Wired V1: use the dedicated legacy Model O/O- utility.
- Model D/D- Wired V1: use the dedicated legacy Model D/D- utility.
- Model O 2 Wired: the official guide describes plug-and-play USB operation and optional CORE customization.
- Model D Wireless V1: the guide covers charging, the paired receiver, wired operation and CORE settings.
- Other O, D, I, PRO or V3 models: follow the exact guide listed for that generation instead of assuming the controls match an older model.
2. Get basic pointer operation working
Wired mice
- Plug the mouse into an available USB port, preferably directly on the computer rather than through an unpowered hub.
- Wait for the operating system to recognize it and install its standard input driver.
- Move the pointer and click in a low-stakes application such as a text editor. Basic movement should work without configuration software; the Model O 2 Wired guide explicitly describes this plug-and-play behavior.
If the pointer works, the hardware connection is already usable. Software is needed for the additional controls described later, not for ordinary cursor movement.

Model D Wireless V1
- Charge the mouse before its first wireless session when practical.
- For initial testing, connect it by USB; the official guide says this model can be used in wired mode while charging.
- For wireless use, connect its USB receiver. The Model D Wireless V1 guide says the receiver is paired out of the box.
- Move and click the pointer before changing settings, so you know the connection works independently of customization software.
Those charging and receiver details are documented for Model D Wireless V1. Do not apply them automatically to another wireless generation without checking that model’s guide.
3. Choose the correct Glorious software
| Mouse or software path | What to install | What the official material establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Most current supported Glorious products | Glorious CORE | Provides supported RGB, macros and keybindings, DPI and polling-rate controls; a Glorious ID is not required for local configuration, but cloud profile saving requires one. CORE software page |
| Model O/O- Wired V1 | Dedicated legacy Model O/O- utility | CORE is incompatible; the legacy utility is Windows-only. Model O Wired Mouse Product Guide |
| Model D/D- Wired V1 | Dedicated legacy Model D/D- utility | Use the separate V1 download rather than CORE. The legacy software page and model guide identify this family as an exception. Legacy wired guide |
| Model O 2 Wired | CORE is optional after plug-and-play setup | The guide lists macros, button rebinds, RGB and personalized DPI as CORE features. Model O 2 Wired Product Guide |
| Model D Wireless V1 | CORE for supported customization | The guide documents CORE settings and a model-specific factory reset. Model D Wireless Product Guide |
Glorious states on its CORE page: “While all Glorious products function right out of the box, we do recommend installing Glorious CORE in order to take full control over product features and have access to any firmware updates.” That is the manufacturer’s software guidance, not an independent performance test.
4. Check operating-system support before downloading
The CORE page’s compatibility section lists Windows 10 or later and macOS Big Sur or later. Its installation FAQ gives more specific current-installer guidance of Windows 11 or later, or macOS Big Sur through Sonoma. Because those statements are not identical, check the current download page for your operating system immediately before installing.
The older wired V1 guide identifies its dedicated utility as Windows-only. If you own one of those mice on macOS, the pointer can still function as a standard USB mouse, but the legacy configuration application is not documented for that operating system.
Software requirements and supported products can change. Use the model guide and the live CORE download page rather than relying on an old installer saved on another computer.

5. Install CORE and connect a supported mouse
- Open the official CORE page and download the installer for your operating system.
- Close other mouse-configuration utilities temporarily. Multiple low-level input utilities can make detection harder.
- Run the installer, accept the requested permissions and finish setup.
- Connect the supported Glorious mouse by USB. For a wireless model, connect its receiver as described in its guide; use USB during the first configuration if the guide recommends it.
- Launch CORE and wait for the mouse to appear in the device list. If it does not appear, stop changing settings and use the troubleshooting section below.
- Install a firmware update only when CORE offers one for the exact connected model, and keep the cable or receiver connected throughout the update.
You can configure a compatible device without creating a Glorious ID. Sign in only if you want cloud profile saving; an account is not a prerequisite for local button, DPI or lighting changes.
6. Customize buttons without losing track of the original layout
Rebind a button
- In CORE, select the connected mouse and open its button or keybinding controls.
- Choose one physical control, such as a side button or scroll click.
- Assign the required supported action, then save or apply the profile.
- Test that one change in a text editor, browser or other low-stakes application before remapping another control.
CORE supports button rebinds on compatible products, but the available actions and assignable controls are model-specific. Do not assume every physical button accepts every action or that all mice expose the same number of buttons.
Model O 2 Wired button example
The Model O 2 Wired guide describes a symmetrical six-button mouse: left and right click, a pressable scroll wheel and two side buttons, plus the model’s DPI control. Use that layout only as an example for Model O 2 Wired; it is not a universal map for every Glorious mouse.
Assign a macro carefully
- Open the macro or keybinding area for the selected profile.
- Create the sequence using the controls exposed for your model.
- Assign it to a supported button and save the profile.
- Test it in a harmless application first. For games, follow the game’s rules; a macro can be disallowed even when the mouse software technically permits it.
The official CORE description confirms macro support for compatible products, not for every model or every button. If the macro control is absent, verify the model guide rather than forcing an incompatible assignment.
7. Set DPI and polling rate
DPI changes pointer sensitivity by changing how much the cursor moves for a given physical distance. Set a level that lets you control the pointer comfortably, then test it in the application where you normally use the mouse. CORE exposes DPI and polling-rate controls on supported devices, but the number of levels and onboard behavior vary by model.

Model O 2 Wired defaults
The Model O 2 Wired guide lists four default DPI levels: 400, 800, 1600 (the default) and 3200 DPI. Its button behind the scroll wheel cycles through those levels, and the DPI indicator shows the active level. These are Model O 2 Wired guide values, not universal Glorious defaults.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →In CORE, you can replace the model’s DPI values and customize the indicator colors when those options are available. Change one level at a time and test the result; a very high number is not automatically more accurate or more suitable.
Polling rate
Polling rate controls how frequently the mouse reports its position to the computer. CORE lists polling-rate adjustment among its supported customization features, but the available rates depend on the specific mouse. Select only rates offered for your model, then check pointer behavior and application compatibility.
8. Configure RGB and onboard lighting
CORE provides software-based RGB configuration for compatible products, including effects and colors exposed by the device. Select the mouse, open its lighting controls, choose an effect and apply it to the active profile.
Some mice also provide onboard button combinations for changing lighting effect, brightness, speed or color without software. The Model O 2 Wired guide documents such combinations for that model, while the Model O Wired V1 guide documents its own combinations. Because the combinations differ by generation, use the table or diagram in your exact guide rather than trying a sequence copied from another model.

If lighting changes do not apply but the pointer works, check the model/software pairing first. A lighting failure is often a compatibility issue, not a defective sensor.
9. Save profiles and verify every change
- Keep the factory or default profile until the new layout has been tested.
- Make one change, apply it and test the exact physical button or DPI control.
- Record which profile is active and what each side button does, especially if you switch between work and game layouts.
- If your model and CORE version provide profile export, export a copy before a reset, firmware recovery or major reconfiguration.
- Sign in with a Glorious ID only when you want cloud profile saving; local configuration does not require it.
Test remapped buttons in a low-stakes application before using them in a game or other task where an unexpected action could cause a problem. A profile that looks correct in software is not verified until each control performs the intended action.
10. Troubleshoot a mouse that works but cannot be customized
CORE does not detect the mouse
- Confirm the exact model and generation from the underside or packaging.
- Compare it with the exclusions on the CORE software page.
- If it is a wired V1 Model O/O- or Model D/D-, uninstall or close CORE and install the corresponding legacy utility instead.
- Reconnect the mouse directly to another USB port and restart CORE.
- For a wireless model, connect the receiver and, where supported, temporarily use the USB cable while configuring.
- Check the current model guide for operating-system requirements before trying another installer.
A pointer that works while CORE does not detect the device is evidence that basic USB input is functioning; it does not prove that the selected utility supports that generation.
Buttons or lighting are unchanged
- Make sure you edited the active profile and applied or saved it.
- Test one control at a time so an incorrect assignment is easy to identify.
- Check whether the model exposes that button, lighting mode or DPI option in its guide.
- Close other configuration software that could overwrite the profile.
- For a legacy V1 mouse, use the dedicated utility; CORE will not provide a workaround for an incompatible model.
Wireless connection problems on Model D Wireless V1
Charge the mouse, confirm that the receiver is connected and remember that the official guide describes the receiver as pre-paired. Test wired mode to separate a configuration problem from a wireless connection problem. These steps are specific to the documented Model D Wireless V1 guide; another wireless generation may use different pairing or charging instructions.
11. Reset only as a last resort
A factory reset removes custom settings or profile information. Preserve or export your configuration first when the model and software allow it, and write down important DPI and button assignments.

Model D Wireless V1 reset
The Model D Wireless V1 guide documents holding the left button, right button and scroll-click together for five seconds. Use that sequence only for the model covered by that guide; it erases custom profile information.
Wired mice reset paths
For wired V1 Model O/D troubleshooting, Glorious documents a software Restore path in the dedicated utility. The wired troubleshooting guidance also documents a three-button, five-second reset for other wired mice. Because the exact sequence differs by family, open the guide for your mouse before holding buttons or restoring software.
After a reset, reconnect the mouse, confirm pointer operation, then rebuild and test the profile one assignment at a time.

12. Wired versus wireless setup: what actually differs
| Decision point | Wired setup | Wireless setup |
|---|---|---|
| First connection | Connect USB and wait for standard driver recognition. | For the documented Model D Wireless V1, charge first when practical, connect the paired receiver, or use USB mode. |
| Basic operation | Usually plug-and-play according to the Model O 2 Wired guide. | Requires a charged battery and a working receiver or USB connection; exact behavior is model-specific. |
| Software choice | Depends on generation: CORE for supported current models, legacy utility for wired V1 O/D. | Use the exact wireless model guide and the compatible CORE path when documented. |
| Customization | Supported CORE models expose button, DPI, polling and lighting controls. | Supported models expose the controls documented for that generation; do not assume wired and wireless siblings have identical options. |
| Failure isolation | Try another USB port or cable connection. | Test USB mode, charge state and receiver connection separately. |
13. Replacing a cable or choosing a different mouse
A cable replacement is not part of normal setup. If a compatible wired mouse needs a new cable, Glorious publishes an Ascended Cable installation guide; follow its model and connector instructions rather than treating a replacement as a software fix.
If you are buying rather than configuring, the Glorious Model O 2 Wired Gaming Mouse guide is the appropriate reference for that model’s six-button layout and DPI defaults. Availability and pricing are not established here, so verify those details on the current product page.
