Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host Craft to Exile [Harmony], download the matching Harmony server pack from its official CurseForge files page, extract it to a dedicated folder, run the included Fabric server launcher or start script with a compatible 64-bit Java runtime, accept Minecraft’s EULA, and give the server at least 2 GB of memory. Every player must install the same Harmony release and loader; the current latest listed main file is Harmony 2.3.2 for Fabric on Minecraft 1.16.5.
The most common setup failure is mixing a client and server from different releases or loaders. Treat the version number, Minecraft version and Fabric/Forge designation as one package, not as interchangeable choices.

What Craft to Exile [Harmony] is
Craft to Exile [Harmony] is a Fabric-based 1.16.x Minecraft modpack built around the Age of Exile action-RPG progression system. Its advertised loop combines exploration, character development and loot. You establish a home base, leave on shorter expeditions, improve a character through a skill tree and ascendancies, and return with equipment and materials.
Harmony is the more vanilla-like sister pack to Craft to Exile [Dissonance]. It adds RPG systems without abandoning a familiar Minecraft rhythm. The pack includes quests and team questing, enhanced dimensions, dungeons, storage and teleportation, plus fishing, alchemy, technology, uniques, gems and runewords. Level-scaling mobs and base-defense mechanics make the home base part of the progression rather than just a cosmetic build.

The project owner states that official servers are provided for both Craft to Exile packs. You can therefore either run the files yourself or use a Minecraft host that explicitly supports this pack and its required loader. This guide covers the self-hosted route first, because it gives you direct control over the files and configuration.
Which Harmony version should you install?
The official project page lists Minecraft versions from 1.16.2 through 1.16.5 and publishes both Forge and Fabric files. The newest listed main file is Harmony 2.3.2, a Fabric pack for Minecraft 1.16.5, dated December 10, 2021. Older server downloads remain visible, including Fabric 2.3.2 and Forge 2.2.4b and 2.1.2c.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Release or file | Minecraft version | Loader | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| CrafttoExile-Harmony-2.3.2 | 1.16.5 | Fabric | Latest listed main file; the normal choice for a new Harmony installation. |
| Harmony server pack 2.3.2 | 1.16.5 | Fabric | Server files that match the 2.3.2 Fabric client. |
| Harmony server pack 2.2.4b | 1.16.x listing | Forge | Historical Forge server option; use only when every client uses the same Forge release. |
| Harmony server pack 2.1.2c | 1.16.x listing | Forge | Older historical Forge option; do not combine it with 2.3.2 Fabric. |
Choose one row and keep that choice throughout the installation. A Fabric client cannot join a Forge server, and a 2.3.2 client should not be expected to join an older server pack. When troubleshooting, record the complete tuple: Harmony release, Minecraft version and loader.
Before you download anything
Prepare a dedicated server machine
Use a machine that can remain online for the hours your group plays. A separate folder prevents modpack files from being mixed with a vanilla server or another modpack. Back up that folder before making major configuration changes or updating the world.
Install 64-bit Java
Harmony’s official wiki calls for a 64-bit Java installation in its MultiMC instructions. Install a 64-bit runtime appropriate for Minecraft 1.16.5, then make sure your launcher or start script points to that Java executable rather than an older 32-bit installation. A 32-bit runtime can fail to reserve the required heap even when the computer has plenty of physical RAM.

Plan memory realistically
The project recommends at least 2 GB for the modpack when using its custom arguments. The wiki’s approximately 4 GB guidance is a practical launcher baseline, not a promise that every server or player count needs exactly 4 GB. Leave memory for the operating system and other services; assigning all installed RAM to Java can make the machine less stable.
Recommended Free Tools
Download the official server pack
- Open the Craft to Exile [Harmony] files section on the official CurseForge project page.
- Select the server download that matches the client release you intend to use. For a new installation, that normally means the 2.3.2 Fabric server pack for Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Download the server archive, not the ordinary client modpack ZIP.
- Create a new, empty server directory and extract the archive into it.
The project’s server repository contains the server-pack project, but its README explicitly directs users to the CurseForge page for downloads and says not to download the build from GitHub. A repository checkout is therefore not a supported substitute for the published server file.
After extraction, you should see the supplied server libraries, a Fabric server launcher JAR, server.jar, configuration folders, a mods folder, an EULA file and a start script. File names can vary slightly by release; do not delete files merely because they are unfamiliar.
First server launch and EULA acceptance
- Open the extracted directory and run the included start script with the compatible 64-bit Java selected for the machine.
- Allow the process to finish its first initialization. It may create additional configuration, log and world files.
- Stop the server cleanly after the initial run if it stops because the EULA has not been accepted.
- Read the supplied
eula.txtand accept Minecraft’s EULA only if you agree to its terms. Follow the value and formatting requested by that file. - Start the server again and watch the console until it reports that it is ready for connections.
The repository includes eula.txt, but the Harmony sources do not publish a separate Harmony-specific EULA procedure. Use the instructions contained in the file distributed with your server pack and comply with Minecraft’s server rules.
Set memory and Java options
Edit the included start script rather than creating a second, conflicting launch command. Set the initial and maximum heap values to suit your machine and group. The project’s minimum guidance is 2 GB; around 4 GB is the wiki’s practical baseline for a client instance. Increase allocation only when monitoring shows the server is genuinely short of memory, because a larger heap does not automatically improve performance.

The Harmony wiki recommends adding these JVM arguments after the launcher’s existing defaults:
-XX:+UseG1GC -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=2147483646 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M
Keep the arguments as one command-line sequence in the script. If the script already supplies Java options, append the recommended values instead of deleting required classpath or launcher parameters. Restart after editing and inspect the console for Java errors before inviting players.
Configure the world and access controls
Server properties
After the first successful start, edit server.properties for the world and play style you want. Set the server name or message of the day, difficulty, player limit and other standard Minecraft options. Change one setting at a time and restart so that a bad value is easy to identify.
Whitelist and permissions
For a private group, enable the whitelist and add each player’s Minecraft account name through the console or the standard server administration commands. Give operator privileges only to people who need them. Keep ordinary players at the lowest permission level that lets them play.

Backups
Stop the server before copying the world for a consistent backup, or use a backup method that is explicitly safe for a running Minecraft world. Keep several dated copies on storage separate from the live server. Test restoring a copy before relying on it for a valuable world.

Network access
Players on the same local network can usually connect using the host machine’s private address. Players outside that network require the server port to be reachable through the host’s firewall and router. The Harmony documentation exposes the server files but does not publish a complete port-forwarding or security guide, so verify those general Minecraft administration steps for your operating system and network equipment. Never expose an unmaintained server to the public internet without firewall rules, a whitelist and a backup plan.
Install the matching client
Every player needs the same Harmony release, Minecraft version and loader as the server. Harmony includes Jumploader, which installs and runs Fabric for the pack; players following the official Harmony instructions do not need to install Fabric separately.
CurseForge App
- Install the CurseForge App and choose Minecraft.
- Browse or search for “Craft to Exile.”
- Select the Harmony profile and the exact release used by the server.
- Install the profile and launch it.
- On the first launch, let the app install required components and complete the Minecraft account login request.
Confirm the profile’s version number before launching. Installing the newest profile while the server remains on an older release is a common cause of missing-mod and registry errors.
GDLauncher
- Install GDLauncher and sign in with a valid Minecraft account.
- Create a new instance and choose the CurseForge/Twitch catalog.
- Search for Craft to Exile and select the Harmony release matching the server.
- Download the instance and launch it once so the required files are created.
The Harmony wiki says GDLauncher selects the correct Java version and allocates about 4 GB of RAM by default. Check those values rather than assuming they remain correct after changing the instance or updating the launcher.
MultiMC
- Download the main Harmony file ZIP from the official CurseForge files page.
- In MultiMC, import the ZIP as a new instance.
- Open the instance settings and select a 64-bit Java installation.
- Set memory for the instance; the wiki recommends a maximum of about 4 GB for this setup.
- Log in with the Minecraft account that owns the game, then launch the instance.
Because the ZIP import is a client installation route, it does not replace the separate server archive. The server must still be built from the exact server file for the selected release.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Connect the first player
- Start the server and wait for its ready message.
- Launch the matching Harmony client profile.
- Open Multiplayer, choose Add Server, and enter the server address supplied by the administrator.
- Use the private address for a local connection or the public address configured for remote players.
- Connect with a whitelisted account and watch both the client log and server console if the connection fails.
The first connection can take longer while terrain and mod data are loaded. Do not repeatedly terminate the server during world generation; allow the process to complete unless the console shows a genuine crash.
Keep clients and server synchronized
Harmony publishes several historical combinations, including both Forge and Fabric. Treat updates as coordinated migrations: back up the world, choose the target release, update the server pack and every client, then test with one player before opening the server to the whole group.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| “Incompatible mod set” or missing-mod message | Client and server have different pack releases or loaders. | Compare the complete Harmony version, Minecraft version and Fabric/Forge selection; reinstall the outlier. |
| Server closes immediately | Wrong Java architecture, malformed script options or incomplete extraction. | Verify 64-bit Java, restore the supplied script parameters and re-extract the official server archive. |
| Players time out | Firewall, router or incorrect address. | Test locally first, then verify the host firewall, router rule and address used by remote players. |
| Severe lag or long pauses | Insufficient memory, heavy world generation or overloaded hardware. | Check logs and system usage, keep the recommended JVM options, reduce simultaneous exploration and adjust memory within the machine’s limits. |
| World or configuration behaves unexpectedly after an update | Changed pack files or an update applied without a backup. | Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup and migrate only after testing the new release separately. |
Harmony compared with Dissonance
The official project description positions Harmony as the lighter, more vanilla-like option and Dissonance as deeper and more linear. The choice affects both the kind of progression players want and the hardware and maintenance burden you should plan for.
| Factor | Harmony | Dissonance |
|---|---|---|
| Overall feel | Closer to vanilla Minecraft, with RPG progression layered onto exploration and a home base. | Deeper and more linear progression. |
| CPU load | Described by the project as lighter. | Generally heavier relative to Harmony. |
| Base defense | Explicit emphasis on defending a base and making short excursions. | Less central in the project’s comparison. |
| Quest and team play | Quests, team questing, dungeons and enhanced dimensions are advertised features. | Uses its own progression balance and content mix. |
| Administration | Requires the same exact-release and loader discipline described in this guide. | Requires its own matching client and server files. |
Choose Harmony when your group wants open-ended exploration, a less linear path and a familiar Minecraft cadence. Choose the other pack only when its deeper, more directed progression is the experience your group actually wants; do not mix their files or assume that a server procedure for one applies unchanged to the other.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you direct access to the start script, world files, configuration, backups and logs. It costs no separate hosting subscription, but you are responsible for Java, uptime, router and firewall configuration, backups, updates and recovery from crashes.
A managed Minecraft host can simplify uptime, control-panel access and network configuration. Before paying, confirm that the provider supports the exact Harmony release and Fabric server pack you intend to run. The official project confirms that multiplayer servers exist, but compatibility, pricing and terms vary by provider and are not established by the Harmony documentation. Do not assume that a host supporting generic Fabric or another 1.16 pack will install Harmony correctly.
What players can expect after setup
Once everyone is connected, begin with the quest and character systems rather than treating Harmony as a collection of unrelated mods. Team questing lets a group pursue objectives together; dungeons and enhanced dimensions provide structured destinations; storage and teleportation reduce travel friction as the base grows. Fishing, alchemy and technology broaden the resource loop, while the skill tree, ascendancies, uniques, gems and runewords provide long-term build choices.
Level-scaling mobs mean that simply out-leveling every area is not the only progression strategy. Coordinate roles, improve equipment and decide how much risk to take on each excursion. Base-defense mechanics make secure storage, a defensible layout and regular backups practical priorities from the first session.
Quick Recap
Operational checklist
- Server archive came from the official Harmony CurseForge files page, not a GitHub build.
- Server and clients use the same Harmony release, Minecraft version and Fabric or Forge loader.
- 64-bit Java is selected for both the server and MultiMC-style clients.
- The included start script and supplied JVM arguments are intact.
- At least 2 GB is assigned to the server, with additional memory chosen according to measured load and available system RAM.
- The EULA file was read and accepted before allowing players to join.
server.properties, whitelist, permissions, firewall and router settings match the intended audience.- A tested backup exists before world changes or pack updates.
- A first connection was completed locally before remote players were invited.
