Big Walk on PC supports most game controllers, and its mouse-and-keyboard controls work too. Connect a pad by USB or Bluetooth, launch the game through Steam, then open Settings > Rebinding to verify or change every binding before you join a co-op session. If Big Walk does not see the pad, test it outside the game and disconnect other peripherals before changing advanced settings.
What controller support Big Walk has on PC
The Windows version of Big Walk supports most standard game controllers rather than requiring one specific model. House House’s FAQ also says that mouse and keyboard work well, so a controller is an option, not a prerequisite. You can switch between input methods, but checking your preferred device before a multiplayer session avoids surprises.
Big Walk is distributed through Steam for Windows and macOS. The Steam listing identifies online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer, so a Windows player can play with friends on supported platforms. Controller setup is local to your PC: each player still needs a working input device and audio arrangement at their own end.

Check your PC and controller before launching
Windows requirements are separate from controller compatibility
A controller will not compensate for a PC that cannot run the game. The Steam listing gives these Windows requirements:
| Specification | Minimum listed requirement | Recommended information listed |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Not stated |
| Memory | 12 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti, AMD Radeon R7 370, or Intel Arc A380-class GPU | Stronger hardware than the minimum; an exact model is not stated |
These figures describe running Big Walk, not a special controller driver. A pad can be recognized by Windows even when the game itself cannot run acceptably, so treat performance troubleshooting and input troubleshooting as separate problems.
Choose a connection method
- USB: Plug the controller directly into the PC. A wired connection avoids Bluetooth pairing and battery concerns and is the simplest first test.
- Bluetooth: Pair the controller according to that device’s own instructions, then confirm that Windows reports it as connected before starting Big Walk.
The official guidance does not prescribe a particular Windows pairing sequence or controller model. An “Xbox Wireless Controller for PC” is one example of a compatible style of pad, not a requirement. Other standard USB or Bluetooth controllers may work as well because support is described as covering most controllers.

Set up the controller step by step
- Connect one controller. Use a USB cable, or complete Bluetooth pairing using the controller maker’s instructions. For initial setup, leave other gamepads, wheels, flight sticks and unusual USB input devices disconnected.
- Confirm the PC sees it. Before opening the game, make sure the controller appears connected in the operating system or its own utility. If you are using Bluetooth, check that it has not connected to a different device nearby.
- Launch Big Walk from Steam. Start the game from the Steam library after the controller is connected. Starting with the pad already available gives the game the best chance to identify it on launch.
- Open the rebinding screen. In Big Walk, go to Settings > Rebinding. This is the official menu path for changing controls.
- Review every important action. Check movement, camera control and interaction. If the displayed layout uses labels that differ from the symbols printed on your pad, press each physical button once and confirm which action is assigned.
- Test before joining friends. Move, look around and interact in a safe part of the game. Confirm that the controller does not produce drift, repeated inputs or missing buttons before entering an online session.
- Set up communication. If you plan to speak, select a working headset or microphone in the PC’s audio settings and verify its input level. If you prefer not to use voice, leave the microphone unused and rely on Big Walk’s in-game text chat.
Big Walk does not require a particular controller layout. The rebinding menu is the place to adapt an unfamiliar arrangement, swap buttons for accessibility, or make a second controller feel like your usual one.

How to choose a controller for Big Walk
Because the game supports most controllers, the practical differences are comfort, connection and how clearly you can map the controls rather than an official compatibility list.
| Decision factor | What to check | Why it matters in Big Walk |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | USB cable or Bluetooth | USB is straightforward for setup; Bluetooth keeps the desk cable-free but adds pairing and battery variables. |
| Windows recognition | Whether Windows detects the device consistently | A controller that disappears at the operating-system level cannot be fixed by changing an in-game binding. |
| Comfort and layout | Stick position, trigger feel, grip size and reach to the buttons | Long co-op sessions are easier when movement and camera controls are comfortable. |
| Button-label match | Whether on-screen prompts resemble the symbols on the controller | Matching labels reduce mistakes; otherwise use Settings > Rebinding and test each action. |
| Remapping support | Physical or software remapping options | More remapping flexibility helps if the default layout is awkward or inaccessible. |
| Microphone | Built-in microphone, headset jack or no microphone | Some controllers include a microphone, while a laptop often has its own. Big Walk also supports a standalone headset and text chat. |
No model is required by Big Walk. Pick the device that your PC recognizes reliably and that you can operate comfortably; then use the game’s rebinding screen for any layout mismatch.
Configure controls and chat without guesswork
Use Rebinding for a different layout
Open Settings > Rebinding after the controller is connected. Work through the list rather than changing only the first button you notice. Verify the actions you use to move, control the camera and interact, then check any action you expect to use during co-op. If a binding is changed accidentally, return to the same menu and assign the intended physical input again.

Use voice or text chat
Big Walk is designed around in-game voice chat and in-game text chat. For voice, select the microphone or headset you actually want to use in the PC’s audio settings, then speak briefly and watch for a response from your group. A wired headset or separate microphone is a practical choice when available because it keeps the microphone close to your mouth and avoids relying on a controller’s built-in mic.
Text chat is a complete alternative. The official FAQ says you can play the whole game that way without missing out, so a microphone is optional rather than a controller requirement. This is also useful when a laptop microphone is picking up room noise or when Bluetooth audio is unreliable.
Fix a controller Big Walk does not detect
Follow the checks in order. Each one separates a hardware or operating-system problem from an in-game configuration problem.
1. Test the controller outside Big Walk
Open a controller-testing site such as controllertest.io in a browser. Press every button, move both sticks and pull the triggers. A working test confirms that the PC is receiving inputs; a missing axis or button points to the connection, battery, cable or controller rather than Big Walk’s bindings.

- BOLD STYLE, BUILT TO PERFORM — Define your swagger with a wild, head-turning design. Stay elegantly on target with textured triggers built for every moment.
- RUBBERIZED GRIPS — Hold on to the action with rubberized grips on the back cases, designed for comfort and control during long gaming sessions.

If the test page does not respond, reconnect the USB cable, charge or wake the wireless pad, or repeat Bluetooth pairing using the controller’s own instructions. Try a different USB port if you are wired. Do not spend time remapping in Big Walk until the device produces input outside the game.
2. Disconnect competing peripherals
Remove other controllers and peripherals that can present themselves as game input, including a second pad, steering wheel or specialty joystick. The official troubleshooting advice specifically recommends disconnecting other peripherals so that none conflicts with the controller. Restart Big Walk after reducing the setup to one controller.
3. Reconnect before launching
Quit Big Walk, disconnect the pad, reconnect or re-pair it, and start the game again from Steam. This gives the game a clean device-detection attempt. If the controller works in the browser test but not after relaunching, open Settings > Rebinding and see whether inputs appear when you assign an action.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches4. Distinguish detection from a bad binding
- Buttons appear to do nothing anywhere: return to the external controller test and solve the connection first.
- The game responds, but the wrong action occurs: use Settings > Rebinding and verify the physical button associated with each action.
- The game works until another device is connected: disconnect the competing peripheral and relaunch.
- Only one wireless session fails: check pairing, battery and whether the controller is still connected to another computer or console.
5. Do not apply Mac-only advice to Windows by mistake
The official FAQ includes Steam Input and permission steps specifically for Xbox wireless controllers on Mac. Those instructions are not a universal Windows fix. On Windows, first complete the external test and peripheral-isolation steps above; use the Mac-specific Steam Input guidance only when you are actually troubleshooting that Mac and controller combination.

Prepare for an online co-op session
Big Walk’s online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer make a short pre-session check worthwhile. Connect the controller before launching, verify movement, camera and interaction in Settings > Rebinding, and confirm that your microphone or text-chat plan is ready. If a friend is on another supported platform, cross-platform play concerns the multiplayer connection, not a special controller mode on your Windows PC.
- Use one clearly identified controller at first; add other peripherals only after the game is responding normally.
- Keep a USB cable available if a Bluetooth pad begins losing connection or running low on power.
- Tell the group whether you are using voice or text chat so silence is not mistaken for a microphone failure.
- If input stops during play, leave the session only if needed, test the pad outside the game, disconnect competing devices and relaunch.
What the setup process does—and does not—require
You do not need a named controller model, a special Windows pairing sequence, or a microphone to play Big Walk on PC. You do need a controller that the computer can detect, a game installation that meets the listed Windows requirements, and a binding layout you can operate. USB and Bluetooth are both viable connection methods when configured according to the controller’s instructions.
The shortest reliable path is therefore: connect one working controller, launch Big Walk through Steam, check Settings > Rebinding, test the core actions, and only then add voice equipment or other peripherals. If detection fails, prove the controller works outside the game before changing anything else.
