To prepare a server for aaPanel, use your hosting provider’s reimage or reinstall process to install a clean, supported Linux distribution, then connect over SSH and follow aaPanel’s current installation instructions. Reimaging is controlled by the host—not aaPanel—and may erase data, so confirm what will be removed and verify a backup before proceeding.
What reimaging does—and what to check first
Reimaging usually replaces the server’s current operating-system image with a fresh one. The exact controls, storage effects, backup behavior, and recovery options depend on the hosting provider and the specific server. aaPanel’s documentation explains how to install the panel on a Linux server; it does not provide a universal procedure for reimaging a third-party VPS or cloud instance.
- Check your host’s documentation or ask its support team what the reimage will erase, including data on attached or separate volumes.
- Create a backup using the host’s documented process, and verify that the files or data you need are actually included and restorable.
- Confirm that you can access the server again after reimaging, including the credentials or SSH key you will need.
Do not assume that a host’s snapshots, backups, or attached disks are preserved—or deleted—without checking the instructions for your server.

Choose a Linux image aaPanel currently supports
aaPanel’s Quick Start recommends Ubuntu 22.04 and also lists Ubuntu 24/26, Debian 11–13, CentOS 9/10, AlmaLinux 8–10, and Rocky Linux 8–10. Choose an image that your provider offers and verify the version against the live Quick Start before reimaging. aaPanel’s pages do not all show the same operating-system lists, so an older tutorial or download page should not override the current installation guidance.

| Ubuntu 24/26 | Listed | Confirm the exact image version your host provides and check the live Quick Start before choosing it. |
| Debian 11–13 | Listed | Check that your intended version is available from the host and remains on aaPanel’s current list. |

The current Quick Start publishes minimum requirements of 1 CPU core, 512 MB RAM, and 1 GB storage. These are aaPanel’s stated minimums, not a sizing recommendation for a production workload. The older 2023 forum tutorial gives different figures, including 100 MB available disk space; use the current Quick Start rather than that older figure when checking the stated minimum. No comparative performance or security benchmark is provided for the listed distributions.
Reimage through your hosting provider
Use the provider’s own dashboard or support process to select and install the operating-system image. The available controls and labels vary by provider, so there is no reliable universal click path. If you cannot find the correct reimage process, ask the host to confirm which image is supported and what data the operation affects before you start.

Wait until the provider reports that the server is ready with the new OS. Keep the server IP address and the SSH credentials or key supplied or configured by the host; you will need them for installation.

aaPanel’s Quick Start describes its starting point as “I already have a Linux server and want to install aaPanel.” An aaPanel forum tutorial from October 31, 2023, says to use a clean operating system without another Apache, Nginx, PHP, or MySQL environment installed. A fresh OS image is one way to meet that prerequisite.

- Connect to the reimaged server by SSH using its IP address and the credentials or key from your host.
- Open the current aaPanel Quick Start and follow its installation command and instructions. Run the command with root privileges as documented; do not rely on an installer command copied from an older guide.
- When installation finishes, save the panel address and login details shown by the installer in a secure place.
The Quick Start’s example output says “Time consumed: 1 Minute!” and its guide says installation takes 2 minutes. These are aaPanel’s example and typical timing claims, not a guarantee for every server or connection.
If the aaPanel login page will not open
- Confirm that the server has finished provisioning and that you are using the panel address and port displayed by the installer.
- Check the provider’s firewall or security-group rules and allow the panel port shown by aaPanel if it is blocked.
- Confirm that the server IP and connection are correct. If the server itself is unreachable over SSH, use your host’s documentation or support process to diagnose access to that instance.
For host-specific reimage instructions, you need the provider and server details: the reimage steps and data recovery behavior cannot be determined from aaPanel’s installation documentation alone.
