For normal matchmaking, change the region in Settings → Gameplay. Automatic is the default and is usually the safest choice; forcing a distant region can increase latency and create networking or combat problems. For a community server, the published Game.ini options do not include a country, flag, or ServerRegion override. A wrong flag is therefore usually a hosting-provider or IP-geolocation issue, not a setting you can correct in the game file.
There are two different “server region” settings
Path of Titans uses the word region for two related but separate things. Confusing them is the main reason region and flag changes appear not to work.
- Player matchmaking region: your preference for the region used when the game finds an official or matchmaking server for you.
- Community-server location and flag: information associated with a particular community server, usually derived from its host, network address, or listing metadata.
Changing your player preference does not move a community server, change its physical data center, or reliably change the flag shown beside it. Conversely, changing a host’s location does not alter the preference saved in your player settings. A player can select a European matchmaking region while joining a community server hosted elsewhere, and a server can display a country flag that does not match its physical facility.
Change your matchmaking region as a player
Use this procedure when you want matchmaking to search a particular part of the world. Alderon describes matchmaking as the system that quickly finds a multiplayer server in the selected region.
#1 Best Overall
- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
- Launch Path of Titans and stay at the main menu.
- Open Settings.
- Select the Gameplay tab.
- Find the preferred server-region or world-region control.
- Choose the region you want from the available choices.
- Return to the multiplayer screen and start matchmaking.
The setting is a player preference, not a command to relocate infrastructure. It influences the servers considered by matchmaking. If you are trying to reach a particular community server, use that server’s listing or join a friend rather than assuming the preference will force that server to appear.
When to leave the setting on Automatic
Automatic is the default. It lets matchmaking select an appropriate nearby region instead of forcing every search to a manually selected location. Unless you have a specific reason to target another region, Automatic is the practical starting point. It also gives you a useful baseline when troubleshooting: if Automatic works but one manual choice does not, the problem may be associated with the selected region or the distance to it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy a distant manual region can cause problems
Alderon warns that selecting a far-away region can significantly increase latency. High latency can affect movement updates, hit registration, combat timing, and the apparent responsiveness of other players. A region choice can influence the server you are offered, but it cannot overcome the physical distance between you and that server. If a manually selected region feels unstable, return to Automatic or choose a geographically closer option.
Do not use the displayed country flag as a substitute for a latency test. A flag can reflect an IP registration or listing record rather than the city where the machine is operating. Judge the connection by the actual play experience and the server’s physical or advertised location, not by the icon alone.
Joining a friend instead of using matchmaking
If your immediate goal is to play on the same server as a friend, joining that friend through the friends list can bypass the normal matchmaking path. Alderon specifically notes that direct friend joining can bypass matchmaking. This is useful when the server you want is not being selected by your preferred-region search. It does not turn the friend’s server into a different region; it simply provides another way to join it.
What community-server owners can edit
Community servers are run by their owners, either on equipment they manage themselves or through a Game Server Provider (GSP). Alderon’s community-server guidance allows both self-hosting and provider hosting. Owners customize documented session and gameplay behavior in Game.ini. The current configuration reference does not publish a setting for a country flag, country code, or server region.
Safe editing sequence
- Stop the server. Do not edit the configuration while the process is running.
- Locate
Game.ini. The parent configuration directory varies with the operating system and hosting control panel. - Open the correct section. Session settings normally belong under
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]. - Put one option on each line. Keep each key inside the section that documents it.
- Save the file. Verify that the host actually saved the file rather than a local copy downloaded from a panel.
- Restart the server. The new values are read when the server starts.
The hosting documentation cautions that defaults can be removed and that edits made while the server is running may not take effect reliably. If a change appears to be ignored, stop the server again, confirm the file and section, save, and perform a complete restart. A provider panel may expose a template, an active instance, and a backup separately, so confirm that you edited the instance that actually launches.
Example session block
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession]
ServerName=My_Community_Server
ServerMap=Panjura
MaxPlayers=100
bServerAllowChat=true
This example shows the format, not a performance recommendation. The documented session options cover items such as the server name, map, maximum player count, password, chat, map and minimap behavior, whitelist controls, and other gameplay settings. Use the exact key names and accepted values from the current hosting reference for any option beyond the example above.
Keep unrelated settings in their documented sections rather than placing everything beneath the session header. Each option should occupy its own line. If a provider automatically regenerates a file, save through the provider’s editor and check the live file after restarting.
Can you set the region or flag in Game.ini?
No published country-flag override
The current official configuration list does not document ServerRegion, Country, Region, CountryFlag, or an equivalent flag override. Adding an invented line such as ServerRegion=US will not create a supported setting. The game may ignore an unknown key, and an incorrect edit can make troubleshooting harder.

There is an important difference between an undocumented key and a hidden feature. Unless the official configuration reference lists a key and its accepted values, an owner cannot rely on it for a server-list result. Removing an unsupported line is preferable to leaving it in place while diagnosing another configuration issue.
What the documented session section controls
[/Script/PathOfTitans.IGameSession] is for supported session behavior, not a public geolocation declaration. You can use it for documented values such as:
- Display name and map selection
- Maximum player count
- Password and access restrictions
- Chat availability
- Map or minimap behavior
- Whitelist and gameplay controls
None of those values is documented as the source of the country flag. Renaming a server, changing its map, or changing a player’s preferred region should therefore not be presented as a flag fix. ServerName changes the name players see; it does not declare the country where the machine is located.
Why a server can show the wrong country flag
The flag displayed in a server list is not the same control as your matchmaking preference. It may be based on the public IP address, the provider’s registered address, data-center metadata, or another listing service. A server physically hosted in one place can consequently appear with a different country flag if the address is registered or geolocated elsewhere.

Commercial hosts may allocate addresses from a larger network whose registration points to another country. A server may also have moved facilities or received a new address while an old location remains in a listing database. These possibilities explain why the provider’s advertised city, the physical data center, and the flag can disagree without any Game.ini error.
A player report of a Washington, DC-hosted server appearing with a Germany flag illustrates a possible provider or geolocation mismatch. It is evidence that the problem can occur, not proof that every incorrect flag has the same cause or that one universal fix exists.
Information to collect before contacting support
Record enough information for the host and game support team to identify the exact server:
- Server name as displayed in the game
- Server GUID, if available
- Hosting provider or self-hosting setup
- Advertised region or city
- Actual data-center city and country
- The country flag currently shown
- Date and time when you observed the mismatch
A screenshot of the listing can help preserve the displayed flag, while the provider can confirm the machine’s actual location and network registration. Include the server identity in every message so support does not have to infer which of several similarly named servers is affected.
Correct escalation path
- Ask the hosting provider to verify the server’s public IP geolocation and registration data against the advertised location.
- Ask whether the server was recently moved, assigned a different address, or placed in a facility whose IP ranges are registered in another country.
- If the provider cannot correct the metadata, open an Alderon support ticket with the server name, GUID, provider, advertised location, actual data-center location, and evidence of the displayed flag.
Do not promise that editing Game.ini, changing ServerName, or changing your Gameplay region will alter the flag. The published configuration reference does not support that conclusion.
Self-hosting versus a Game Server Provider
Alderon allows community-server owners to self-host or use a GSP. The choice affects who controls the machine, network address, and geolocation metadata.
| Decision area | Self-hosting | Game Server Provider |
|---|---|---|
| Machine and network control | You control the host hardware, network, and public address. | The provider controls the infrastructure and usually assigns the public address. |
| Operational work | You handle installation, ports, updates, authentication, backups, and troubleshooting. | The provider reduces routine infrastructure work, although game configuration remains your responsibility. |
| Latency planning | You choose the physical location and network connection available to you. | You choose among the provider’s available locations; the selected data center affects player latency. |
| Flag or geolocation metadata | You can investigate your own IP registration and hosting location. | The provider may need to correct IP geolocation or listing metadata. |
| Support route for a wrong flag | Check your network registration, then contact Alderon for listing or game issues. | Contact the provider first, then Alderon if the metadata cannot be corrected. |
Neither deployment model adds a documented Game.ini flag override. The infrastructure choice changes who can investigate the address and location, not the set of supported game keys.

How region, latency, and the displayed flag relate
Player preference is not physical server location
Your Gameplay selection tells matchmaking what region you prefer. It does not relocate a server or rewrite the server’s public identity. A manually selected region can still produce poor results if you are physically far from the available servers in that region.
Physical location affects network experience
The data center and network path between players and the server are the practical factors behind latency. For a new community server, select a host location close to the intended player population and test from the locations that matter to your community. A flag alone is not a latency measurement; it can be wrong or reflect registration metadata rather than the machine’s actual city.
Flag accuracy and gameplay quality are separate checks
A server can have a correct flag and poor latency, or an incorrect flag and perfectly acceptable latency. Treat the flag as an identity or geolocation issue. Treat lag, rubber-banding, and combat delay as network-performance issues. Investigate each with the appropriate evidence instead of assuming one setting controls both.

“I cannot find servers in the region I selected.”
- Confirm that the change was made under Settings → Gameplay, not in a community-server configuration file.
- Return to the multiplayer screen after saving the preference.
- Try Automatic to determine whether the problem is limited to the manually selected region.
- If a friend is already on the desired server, use the friends-list join route.
“My manually selected region feels laggy.”
- Check whether the selected region is physically distant from you.
- Switch back to Automatic or choose a closer region.
- Do not treat a country flag as proof of actual network distance.
“I added a region line to Game.ini and nothing changed.”
Remove unsupported keys and return the file to documented options. Stop the server before editing, place supported keys under the correct section, save, and restart. The published configuration list does not define a region or flag override.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →“The server name changed, but the flag did not.”
That result is expected. ServerName controls the displayed name, not the geolocation metadata used for a flag.
“The provider says the server is in the right city, but the flag is still wrong.”
Ask the provider to check the public IP’s registration and geolocation records, not just the physical facility. Supply the server identity and the flag shown in the listing. If the provider cannot resolve the discrepancy, send the same evidence to Alderon support.
“My configuration changes disappear after a restart.”
- Confirm that the server was stopped before editing.
- Check that you edited the active instance’s
Game.ini, not a template or backup. - Verify the section header and spelling of every key.
- Save through the provider’s control panel if the panel manages the file.
- Restart and then check the server’s live settings.
Dedicated-server prerequisites for owners
Owners who run the dedicated server themselves use AlderonGamesCmd together with an authentication token, a unique server GUID, database selection, a port, a branch key, and the Path of Titans server executable or start script. These are deployment requirements, not region or flag controls. They identify and launch the server; the documented session settings in Game.ini define its supported in-game behavior.
Best Value
The authentication token and GUID identify the server installation to Alderon’s services; they do not provide a country declaration. Likewise, selecting a database, port, or branch is part of deployment and does not override listing geolocation. Keep those concerns separate when diagnosing a wrong flag.
Because installation paths and parent directories vary by operating system and host, follow the current dedicated-server setup instructions for the exact command and directory layout. The important configuration rule remains the same: stop the process before editing, keep each option on its own line under the appropriate section, save, and restart.
A practical decision checklist
- You are a player choosing where matchmaking searches: use Settings → Gameplay.
- You want the least risk of avoidable latency: keep the preference on Automatic unless you have a clear reason to select another region.
- You own a community server and need session changes: stop the server, edit documented
Game.inivalues, save, and restart. - You want to change the country flag: do not add an undocumented key; investigate provider and IP-geolocation metadata.
- You see a wrong flag: collect the server name, GUID, provider, advertised location, actual data-center location, and a screenshot or time-stamped observation.
- The provider cannot fix the metadata: escalate the complete evidence to Alderon support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Path of Titans region setting?
At the main menu, open Settings and select Gameplay. Use the preferred server-region or world-region control there. Automatic is the default.
Can I change a community server’s country flag with Game.ini?
No supported country, flag, Region, Country, or ServerRegion override is listed in the current configuration reference. Do not add an invented key; ask the hosting provider to check IP-geolocation metadata.
Does selecting a Gameplay region move the server?
No. It changes the region matchmaking prefers for your player. It does not relocate a community server or rewrite its displayed identity.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why does my server show the wrong country?
The listing may use public-IP registration, provider metadata, data-center information, or another geolocation record. Give the provider the server name, GUID, advertised location, actual data-center location, and the flag shown.
Should I use Automatic or manually select a region?
Automatic is the default and generally the safest starting point. Alderon warns that a far-away manual region can significantly increase latency and cause networking or combat problems.
What should I do if Game.ini edits are ignored?
Stop the server, edit the active Game.ini under the correct section with one option per line, save it through the active host or panel, and restart. Remove unsupported region or flag keys.
The Bottom Line
Use Settings → Gameplay to choose a player matchmaking region, and leave it on Automatic unless you have a clear reason to select another. For community servers, edit only documented Game.ini options while the server is stopped, then save and restart. The current configuration reference provides no country-flag override, so a wrong flag should be investigated as provider or IP-geolocation metadata and escalated to Alderon with complete server and location details.
