Set an alert on the exact product, variant, seller and condition you intend to buy, then choose a target price based on your budget and the item’s own price history. Google Shopping can send push and email notifications, Amazon can alert you through its app or Alexa, and Amazon-focused trackers such as CamelCamelCamel and Keepa add historical charts that show whether a holiday price is genuinely unusual.
Alerts are signals, not guarantees. A notification may arrive after stock changes, and the checkout total can differ because of shipping, tax, coupons, seller changes or inventory. Use the steps below to create useful watches and verify every deal before paying.
Choose the right alert method
The best setup depends on where you plan to buy and how much historical context you need. Retailer-native alerts are tied to that retailer’s current listing and can be quick for its own inventory. Independent history services are especially useful when you need to know whether a discount is actually low compared with previous prices.

For a single retailer purchase, start with that retailer’s alert and add a history service if the item is expensive or the advertised discount looks suspicious. For products sold by several retailers, Google Shopping gives broader discovery, but you must still compare the final offers manually.

Set a price alert in Google Shopping
Google’s documented flow is search, product card, Track price, optional target price and confirmation. You must be signed in, and Google lists current price-tracking availability for users in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and India. The feature can differ by device and by Google surface, so a missing control does not necessarily mean the product cannot be tracked elsewhere.
Step-by-step setup
- Sign in to the Google account where you want to receive notifications.
- Search for the product or a closely defined product category in Google Shopping or the Google surface showing the product card.
- Open the product card and check the identifying details: model, storage or capacity, size, color, bundle and any other specification that changes the price.
- Tap Track price. If Google presents variant selectors, choose the exact size or color you would buy.
- When offered, enter a target price. Set a number you would actually pay rather than accepting an arbitrary percentage reduction.
- Tap OK. Google says the confirmation reads: “You’ll get a confirmation that says ‘You’ll get push notifications and emails on price drops and related content.’”
- Leave Google app notifications enabled on the device you use, and keep access to the signed-in email account. To change alert behavior, use the Google app notification settings or the change-notification-settings link in an alert email.
What Google tracking does and does not do
The alert follows the product information available to Google, not a promise that every retailer, seller or variation will be monitored continuously. If a product card groups several offers, open the retailer listing when an alert arrives and verify that the tracked variant is still the one on sale. Google’s documented country list is not a guarantee of identical controls on every phone, browser or account.
Use Amazon’s app and Alexa deal alerts
Amazon supports product-specific alerts through its shopping app and Alexa for Shopping. Amazon’s examples include asking Alexa to alert you about noise-cancelling headphones and asking whether an item was cheaper last Black Friday. The exact prompts and controls can vary by device, account and market, so follow the current product-page or Alexa prompt shown to you.
Set an alert in the Amazon app
- Open the Amazon shopping app and sign in to the account you will use for the purchase.
- Open the exact product page. Check the model, size, color, capacity, bundle, seller and condition before enabling anything.
- Look for the current deal-alert or price-alert control on the product page, in the deal area or in the shopping-list experience. Amazon’s placement and wording can change by app version and market.
- Choose the alert or target-price option presented by the app, then confirm the notification permission if your phone asks.
- Keep app notifications enabled and review the alert settings if you stop receiving updates.
Ask Alexa for a shopping alert
- Use an Alexa-enabled device or the Alexa app signed in to the Amazon account associated with your shopping activity.
- Make a natural-language request, such as asking for an alert when noise-cancelling headphones go on sale.
- Follow Alexa’s confirmation questions to identify the product category or item and accept the alert.
- To investigate a past price, ask whether the item was cheaper last Black Friday. Treat the answer as a reference, then inspect the current listing and total yourself.
An Amazon alert is tied to Amazon’s current product and deal data. It does not establish that another retailer has the same price, that the price will remain available until you check out, or that the offer is sold by Amazon rather than a marketplace seller.

Track Amazon history with CamelCamelCamel
CamelCamelCamel presents itself as a free Amazon price tracker with price-history charts and price-drop alerts. Its main advantage is context: you can compare a proposed holiday price with earlier lows instead of relying on a “percent off” label.
Setup procedure
- Copy the Amazon product URL for the exact listing you are considering.
- Paste that URL into CamelCamelCamel’s tracker interface.
- When the service shows multiple offers or conditions, select the relevant one, such as new, used or another available condition.
- Review the history chart and identify a price level that would make the purchase worthwhile.
- Set your target price at that level and choose an available alert channel.
- Confirm the alert and keep the chosen email or other notification channel active.
Amazon pages can contain several sellers and conditions under one product family. A low historical price for a used or marketplace offer is not evidence that a new, Amazon-sold unit will reach the same level. Read the chart’s offer label before setting your threshold.
Track Amazon history with Keepa
Keepa says it tracks more than 7 billion Amazon products and provides price-history charts and price-drop alerts. You can open a product in Keepa directly or use its browser extension. Because the extension can read shopping-page information, review its requested permissions and make sure browser and operating-system notifications are enabled.

Setup procedure
- Open the Amazon product in Keepa or load the product page with the Keepa browser extension active.
- Choose the Amazon listing and the condition you intend to purchase. Do not mix a marketplace, used or refurbished line with the new listing you are budgeting for.
- Inspect the chart for earlier holiday spikes, temporary drops and long-term price movement.
- Set a threshold that matches your budget and the historical range you consider attractive.
- Enable one of the notification channels offered for your account.
- Check browser extension permissions, browser notification permissions, phone or desktop notification settings and any email filters.
Keepa’s chart is evidence about recorded listing prices, not a reservation. A threshold crossing can disappear before you open the page, particularly when inventory is limited or the seller changes.

Set a threshold that represents a real bargain
A useful alert answers “Would I buy at this price?” rather than “Is this percentage large?” Build the threshold from three numbers: your maximum budget, the lowest credible price in the history for the same configuration, and the complete delivered cost you can accept.
Use the exact configuration
- Track the same size, color, storage, capacity, generation and bundle you need.
- Record whether the price applies to new, used, refurbished, marketplace or retailer-sold inventory.
- Keep the seller in view when seller identity affects warranty, delivery or returns.
- Do not treat a cheaper accessory, smaller capacity or older model as a price drop for the item you selected.
Account for the total cost
An alert may reflect the item price only. Before ordering, add shipping, tax, required membership, coupon conditions, delivery fees and any subscription or bundle requirement. A product that crosses your threshold can still exceed your budget at checkout.
Use history without overfitting to one low
A single extreme low may have been a short promotion, a different condition or an error. Compare several points on the chart and note whether the item normally falls during the holiday period. A target just below the usual range may be more realistic than the all-time minimum.

- Open the alert and confirm the product title, model number and selected variant.
- Check the seller, condition and fulfillment details. Confirm that the offer is the type you intended to track.
- Look for coupon boxes, clipped discounts, membership requirements or minimum quantities.
- Confirm stock status and the delivery date for your address.
- Review shipping, tax and any handling charge.
- Compare the final checkout total with your target, not just the headline price.
- Check the return window and warranty terms if the seller or condition changed.
- If the purchase is important, compare the current price in a second tracker or retailer listing.
Do not assume that an alert guarantees immediate delivery, continuous inventory or a fixed checkout price. Those details can change with seller, stock, device, account, market and notification settings.
Combine tools for higher-confidence decisions
Using two types of alert reduces blind spots without requiring you to monitor every site manually. A practical combination is a retailer-native alert for speed and a history service for context.
For products sold by many retailers
- Track the product in Google Shopping, selecting the exact variant where available.
- Set a target based on your delivered-cost budget.
- When notified, compare the retailer’s final total, delivery date, seller and return terms.
For an Amazon purchase
- Enable an Amazon app or Alexa alert so you can receive Amazon’s own deal signal.
- Set a CamelCamelCamel or Keepa threshold for the exact condition and listing type.
- When one alert fires, inspect the other service’s history and then verify the live Amazon checkout page.
For an expensive or hard-to-find item
- Track the exact configuration in Google if it appears there.
- Enable the retailer’s own alert and one history-based alert where supported.
- Keep notifications enabled through the holiday period and check the product page promptly when a message arrives.
More alerts are not automatically better. If several services monitor slightly different variants, their messages can conflict. Name or label each watch with the model, size, seller and condition so you know what triggered it.
Troubleshoot missing or misleading alerts
No “Track price” control appears in Google
- Confirm that you are signed in.
- Try the product card in another supported Google surface or device.
- Check whether your country is one of Google’s documented locations: the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan or India.
- Search for the exact product rather than a broad category, then open the product card again.
The alert arrived but the deal is gone
- Open the listing immediately; limited stock and seller changes can remove the price.
- Check whether the notification referred to a different variant or condition.
- Review the final total for shipping, tax and coupon requirements.
- Use the history chart to decide whether waiting for another drop is reasonable.
Notifications are not arriving
- Check the Google app, Amazon app, Alexa, browser and operating-system notification permissions that apply to your setup.
- Confirm that the email address or account receiving alerts is still active.
- Inspect spam, promotions and filtered folders.
- For Keepa, review extension permissions and browser notification settings.
- Use the notification-settings control in a Google alert email if you need to adjust Google delivery.
The price looks wrong
- Compare the listing’s seller and condition with the one used when you created the watch.
- Check whether a coupon must be clipped or a membership is required.
- Look for a smaller capacity, different color, older generation or accessory-only bundle.
- Recalculate the delivered checkout total before deciding.
Plan your holiday watch schedule
Start tracking before the event name appears in advertisements. Holiday promotions may begin early, and an earlier baseline helps you recognize whether a later “doorbuster” is truly unusual. Keep the watch active through the period when you are willing to buy, rather than assuming Black Friday or another named day is the only opportunity.

Review your thresholds when the product changes. A new model release, a bundle revision, a seller change or a different shipping charge can make an old target misleading. Update or delete watches you no longer need so important alerts are not buried.
What the holiday-shopping data indicates
Google reported in 2023 that eight in ten holiday shoppers considered finding a good deal important, and more than half planned to compare prices online. Those figures explain why alerts are useful: they reduce repeated searches while leaving the final judgment to you. They do not establish that every shopper will receive an alert, that every retailer is covered, or that a notification will precede a price change.
