To set a price alert for the Nasdaq-100, search for the index symbol NDX in a charting or brokerage service, create an alert at your chosen level, select the direction and trigger frequency, set an expiration, and enable a notification channel. Verify that the chart is the index itself—not an ETF, futures contract, CFD or broker-specific derivative—before saving the alert.
NDX alerts tell you that a defined price condition occurred. They do not predict the next move, guarantee an execution price or replace checking the data feed and account permissions behind the alert.
What you are actually monitoring
Nasdaq identifies NDX as the Nasdaq-100 Index. Its definition covers 100 of the largest domestic and international non-financial companies listed on The Nasdaq Stock Market, selected by market capitalization. An alert on NDX therefore tracks the index level, not a security that you can buy or sell directly.
Services may display several instruments with similar names. Before creating an alert, inspect the symbol details, exchange or market designation, and instrument type. A contract or fund can move differently from the index and can use a separate data entitlement or delay.

NDX versus an ETF
U.S.-listed funds associated with the Nasdaq-100 include Invesco QQQ and Invesco Nasdaq-100 ETF (QQQM), according to Nasdaq’s index overview. These funds trade at their own share prices. A threshold on QQQ or QQQM is not an NDX threshold, so you cannot substitute the same number and assume it represents the index.
Decide what the alert should tell you
Write the intended event in plain language before opening the alert form. The wording determines the operator, direction and frequency you need.
- Level reached from either direction: use a crossing condition when touching the level from above or below is relevant.
- Move upward through a level: use crossing up when the alert matters only after the index rises through the threshold.
- Move downward through a level: use crossing down when the alert matters only after the index falls through the threshold.
- Remain beyond a boundary: use greater-than or less-than when the condition should fire after the value passes the threshold in one direction.
- Percentage move over a period: use a percentage operator with a bar count when the event is a specified move over the selected chart interval rather than a single absolute price.
Do not describe any of these as a forecast. They are rules that watch incoming values and notify you when the selected rule is met.

Alert controls differ by service, account and symbol. A quick preflight prevents the most common error—building a precise alert on an instrument or feed that does not represent the value you intended to watch.

Confirm the symbol
- Open the platform’s symbol search.
- Enter
NDXorNasdaq-100 Index. - Read the instrument description and confirm that it is an index.
- Reject entries labeled as an ETF, futures contract, CFD, option, certificate or other derivative unless that is deliberately what you want to monitor.
Check the data feed
Find out whether the displayed value is real time or delayed and which market-data entitlement applies. A platform can list NDX while restricting real-time values to a particular package, region or account type. The alert’s timing can therefore differ from another service’s timing even when both use the same symbol.
Check alert limits and access
Look for limits on the number of active alerts, available operators, expiration choices and delivery channels. Current plan limits, subscription prices and NDX entitlements are account-specific and are not established by the general platform documentation; verify them in the service you intend to use.
Step-by-step: create an NDX price alert
- Open a chart or quote page. Load the verified NDX instrument and choose an interval that makes sense for the move you want to detect. The interval matters for bar-based percentage rules and for any trigger that waits for a bar close.
- Open the alert tool. Services place it in different locations. Look for an alert icon, a bell, an “Add alert” button or an alert manager associated with the chart.
- Select the condition. Choose crossing, crossing up, crossing down, greater than, less than or a percentage-move operator. Select the direction explicitly when an up or down move is the point of the alert.
- Enter the threshold. Type the exact NDX level or percentage and review the unit. An absolute level is an index value; a percentage rule is measured over the bars and interval you select.
- Choose trigger behavior. Decide whether the alert should run once, repeat every time the condition occurs, wait for a bar close or evaluate at a minute-based frequency when those options are available.
- Set an expiration. Use a date that matches the period during which the alert is useful. Do not assume an alert remains active indefinitely; some alert types require an expiration.
- Name the alert precisely. Include the instrument, direction and level, such as
NDX crossing down — chosen floor. A clear name helps you audit several alerts later. - Choose delivery actions. Select one or more available channels, such as a mobile notification, desktop pop-up, email, webhook or sound.
- Grant permissions. Enable notifications in the mobile operating system or browser when required. A saved alert can exist without producing a visible pop-up if browser permission is blocked.
- Save and inspect the alert manager. Re-read the symbol, operator, threshold, frequency, expiration and actions from the saved entry. Correct mistakes before relying on the alert.
TradingView’s documented alert controls
TradingView documentation describes several ways to start an alert: the chart toolbar, alert manager, a chart’s right-click menu, a drawing panel and the plus button beside the current price scale. The exact layout can change, so use whichever entry point is visible in your account.
In the alert dialog, select the NDX condition and level, then choose the trigger behavior and expiration. Documented frequency choices include once, every time, once per bar close and once per minute. Watchlist alerts do not have an open-ended expiration in the documented workflow, so select a date and renew the alert when necessary.

TradingView lists mobile-app notifications, desktop pop-ups, email, webhooks and sound as possible actions. Mobile alerts require the app and its permissions. Pop-ups require browser notification permission. A webhook also requires a receiving endpoint that you control and have configured correctly.
Choose the right condition

Terms such as “crossing” and “greater than” can have platform-specific edge cases. If a service offers a help description beside the operator, read it before saving, especially when the level is likely to be touched repeatedly.
Set frequency and expiration deliberately
Frequency controls how often the service evaluates or repeats a condition. A one-time alert is appropriate for a single planned notification. An “every time” rule can notify you repeatedly whenever the condition is met again, which may be useful for recurring threshold crossings but noisy during choppy movement.

That can reduce notifications caused by an intrabar move that reverses before the bar closes, but it also means the notification is later than an intrabar trigger. A minute-based option evaluates on that cadence when offered. Neither setting should be treated as universally real time; symbol data, feed status and platform processing still matter.

Expiration is a separate decision from frequency. Set it for the period in which the threshold is relevant, then review active alerts before the date passes. If a platform does not offer an open-ended option for the alert type, record a reminder to renew it rather than assuming it will continue.
Configure notifications and test the path
Pick a delivery channel that you will actually notice. Mobile notifications are useful when you are away from the chart; desktop pop-ups suit a workstation; email creates a searchable record; webhooks can pass an event to an automation you operate; sound can supplement another channel.
After saving, check each dependency:
- The app is installed and logged into the same account if mobile delivery is selected.
- Operating-system notifications are allowed for the app.
- Browser notification permission is allowed for desktop pop-ups.
- Email is verified and not being filtered into a spam folder.
- A webhook URL is reachable and the receiving service is ready for the platform’s request.
- Sound is enabled at both the platform and device level.
Do not lower the threshold merely to “test” an alert if that could cause an unintended action. Instead, use the platform’s documented test function when available, or monitor the alert manager and notification logs after a genuine condition occurs.

If NDX is not available
Some services do not provide the NDX index or require a data package you do not have. You can either choose another service that supports index alerts or monitor an ETF associated with the Nasdaq-100, such as QQQ or QQQM, if your goal is to follow that fund.

An ETF alert must be written in the ETF’s own share-price terms. Its price is affected by trading, fund structure and market conditions, so an ETF threshold cannot be converted into an NDX threshold by copying the number. Use the ETF only when the fund itself is the instrument you want to monitor; do not buy an ETF solely to receive a notification.
Compare services on the details that affect an alert

Published documentation establishes the kinds of controls a platform offers, but it does not establish the current limits, prices, latency or NDX entitlement for every account. Check those items directly before depending on a service for time-sensitive monitoring.
Troubleshoot an alert that did not arrive
The alert never fired
- Reopen the alert manager and confirm the symbol is NDX rather than an ETF or derivative.
- Check whether the threshold was set on the intended side of the current value.
- Read the operator again: crossing up and crossing down are directional, while a general crossing allows either direction.
- Check whether the rule waits for a bar close or uses a different frequency than you expected.
- Confirm that the alert has not expired and that it is enabled.
- Review the symbol’s data status and any entitlement warning.
The alert fired too often
- Change an “every time” rule to a one-time rule if you need only the first event.
- Use a directional operator instead of a two-way crossing when only one direction matters.
- Consider a bar-close trigger if intrabar fluctuations are producing unwanted repeats.
- Raise the specificity of the rule by using a percentage-over-bars condition when that better describes the event.
The notification was missing even though the alert fired
- Check the alert’s action settings and make sure at least one channel is selected.
- Recheck mobile or browser permission, device focus modes and sound settings.
- Search email spam or filtering rules.
- For webhooks, inspect the receiving service’s logs and verify that the endpoint is still valid.
- Look at the platform’s alert history to distinguish a trigger problem from a delivery problem.
The displayed value differs between services
Compare the instrument identity, data-feed status, timestamp and chart interval. One service may show delayed data or a different entitlement. Differences do not automatically mean that either alert is broken; they may be evaluating different inputs.

Use alerts as monitoring, not as an automatic decision
An NDX notification tells you that the chosen condition was observed under the platform’s rules. It does not establish why the move happened, whether the move will continue or whether an investment decision is appropriate. Review the chart and relevant information after an alert, and keep a written record of the exact operator, level, frequency and expiration you selected.
For recurring monitoring, audit active alerts periodically. Remove obsolete thresholds, renew alerts before expiration and verify that your notification permissions remain enabled after an app, browser or operating-system update. If your objective changes from watching the index to watching a tradable fund, create a new alert on that fund rather than silently reusing the NDX rule.
