Use two different alert systems because you are tracking two different markets: a benchmark-price alert for WTI or Brent crude, and a location-based service for what nearby stations actually charge. A configurable charting service such as TradingView can notify you when a selected crude benchmark crosses your threshold. For pump prices, AAA provides email updates, GasBuddy helps find stations and time-limited deals, and the Oil Prices Live mobile app advertises push alerts for WTI and Brent. A crude alert is an upstream signal, not a promise that a particular station will change its price immediately.
Crude alerts and gasoline alerts measure different things
WTI and Brent are traded crude-oil benchmarks. A quote alert tells you that a selected market price has reached a level you care about. It does not identify the cheapest station in your town and does not directly set the retail price on a pump.
Local gasoline services measure a separate, downstream market. Station prices reflect the cost of crude, refinery margins, wholesale gasoline, transportation, taxes, inventories, seasonal fuel specifications and competition among nearby stations. Those factors can make a local price move later than crude, move by a different amount, or move in the opposite direction for a time.
The most useful setup combines both signals:
- Benchmark alert: WTI or Brent crosses a specified level.
- Local-price source: an email, app or station-finder update shows what drivers near you can buy today.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s petroleum-price handbook says its forecasting method relates U.S. motor-gasoline wholesale prices more strongly to Brent crude than to WTI. That relationship is useful context, but it still does not predict the price at one station.

What you need before creating an alert
- The exact market or symbol: WTI, Brent or a specific futures contract.
- Your preferred quote currency and unit, such as U.S. dollars per barrel.
- Awareness of whether the quote is real time or delayed.
- A threshold that has a clear purpose, such as a level for checking fuel costs or reviewing a hedge.
- A delivery channel you will notice without creating unnecessary interruptions.
- A local gasoline source that covers your area and updates often enough for your decisions.
Do not assume that every symbol named “oil” represents the same instrument. A chart may show a spot reference, a futures contract, a continuous contract or a provider’s derived price. Confirm the contract month when the service displays one, because a price alert on one contract will not automatically represent every future contract.
How to create a WTI or Brent price alert in TradingView
TradingView’s official help documentation defines the function this way: “Price alerts trigger when the price surpasses or reaches a specific price mark.” The service supports directional and non-directional conditions, expiration settings and several delivery channels.
1. Select the exact benchmark
- Open the charting service and search for the benchmark or contract you actually follow.
- Choose WTI or Brent deliberately rather than accepting the first result for “oil.”
- Check the quote currency, contract month and whether the feed is delayed.
- Confirm that the displayed unit and decimal precision match the threshold you intend to enter.
A delayed quote can still be useful for general awareness, but it may notify you after the market has already moved through the level. If the timing matters, select a feed and plan that provide the appropriate latency for your use case.

From the selected chart, use the platform’s alert command and choose the price condition. The exact screen can vary by device or account interface, so read the symbol name in the alert dialog before saving. The condition must belong to the intended WTI or Brent instrument, not merely to the chart you last viewed.
3. Choose the trigger logic
TradingView documents these condition types:

| Crossing up | You need an upside notification | The price moves upward through the level. |
| Crossing down | You need a downside notification | The price moves downward through the level. |
| Greater than | You want a one-sided upper condition | The alert applies when price is above the chosen threshold. |
| Less than | You want a one-sided lower condition | The alert applies when price is below the chosen threshold. |
Use Crossing up or Crossing down when direction is part of the decision. Use Crossing when either a rise or a fall through the level matters. A one-sided “greater than” or “less than” rule is appropriate when you are monitoring whether the market remains beyond a boundary, but check how the platform handles repeated notifications so a persistent condition does not become noise.

4. Set frequency and expiry
Set whether the alert is one-time or recurring. TradingView’s setup documentation also provides a timer or expiration, a name and a custom message. Give the alert a name that records the decision it supports, not just the number. For example, a message can identify the benchmark, direction and action to consider.
An expiration prevents an old threshold from running indefinitely after the market regime changes. A recurring alert is useful for an ongoing monitoring plan; a one-time alert is better for a single decision or a level that should not be reused automatically.
5. Select delivery channels
Available delivery choices documented for the workflow include app notification, browser pop-up, email, webhook, sound and plain text. Select only channels that fit your response time:
- App notification: useful when you monitor from a phone.
- Browser pop-up or sound: suitable while a charting session is open.
- Email: better for non-urgent review and record keeping.
- Webhook: intended for an external automation that can receive the event.
- Plain text: useful when the destination accepts a simple message.
Check operating-system notification permissions, browser permissions and spam filtering after saving the alert. A correctly configured condition is not useful if the device suppresses its delivery channel.
6. Test the practical setup
- Review the saved symbol and condition in the alert list.
- Confirm the threshold, frequency, expiration and message.
- Verify that the selected notification channel is enabled on the device or account.
- Record whether the underlying quote is delayed.
- After the first trigger, check the chart to confirm that the notification corresponds to the intended market and direction.
Use two crude thresholds for situational awareness
If the purpose is to notice a meaningful move rather than execute a single trade, place one threshold above the current price and another below it. The upper alert can flag a rising-cost scenario; the lower alert can flag a falling-cost scenario. Give each alert a distinct name and direction so the notification itself explains why it matters.

Revisit both levels after major market changes. A threshold that was informative during a stable range can produce constant alerts after a large move, while a stale level may no longer represent a useful decision point. Adjust or expire it rather than adding more alerts to compensate.
Apply one condition to several crude symbols with watchlist alerts
TradingView also supports watchlist alerts. The same condition is applied independently to each symbol in the list. This can help when you follow more than one benchmark or contract, but it increases the need to label notifications clearly. A message should identify which symbol triggered the event, because a WTI move and a Brent move are not interchangeable signals.
Before using a watchlist alert, review every member of the list. Remove symbols with different currencies, units, contract conventions or delayed-feed characteristics unless you intentionally want those differences.
Set up local gasoline-price updates
AAA email updates
AAA’s Fuel Prices page offers an email subscription for fuel-price updates and news alerts. This is the simplest option when you want a periodic information stream rather than a custom cents-per-gallon trigger. The page displayed a national average of $4.3344, with the price dated October 15, 2026, when it was reviewed. That figure is a dated national average, not a quote for your station and not a permanent current price.
- Open the AAA Fuel Prices page.
- Find the email subscription control for fuel-price updates and news alerts.
- Enter and confirm your email address if AAA requests verification.
- Use the resulting messages as broad market context, then check a local station source before deciding where or when to fill up.
AAA email updates do not provide the same user-defined threshold controls as a chart alert. They are appropriate when convenience matters more than an exact trigger.

GasBuddy for station discovery and Flash Deals
GasBuddy’s Find Gas workflow is designed to locate stations and compare available local information. Its documented Flash Deals are activated in the app and start a four-hour countdown. You must fill up before that countdown ends and follow the applicable receipt or payment rules.
A Flash Deal is a time-limited promotion notification, not an alert that fires when gasoline reaches a price you specify. Treat the countdown as part of the offer: check the start time, expiration, eligibility requirements and proof-of-purchase instructions before relying on the advertised savings.
- Open the GasBuddy app and use Find Gas to view nearby stations.
- Review station details and any available deal terms.
- If you activate a Flash Deal, note the exact four-hour deadline.
- Complete the purchase within that window and retain the receipt or follow the stated payment process.
Oil Prices Live mobile app
The Oil Prices Live App Store listing advertises WTI and Brent tracking, 30-minute updates in its free version and custom commodity alerts delivered by push notification. Those are listing claims, so verify current plan limits, availability, supported regions and alert allowances in the store and app before depending on the service. The listing does not establish that it is a local gasoline-price tracker; use it for crude monitoring and pair it with a station-price source.

Why a crude alert may not match your local pump price
Crude is only one input to gasoline pricing. A refinery may be paying a different wholesale price than the benchmark you watch, and the station may have bought its inventory before the alert fired. Taxes, freight, storage, refinery utilization, seasonal gasoline requirements, local supply and nearby competitors can all change the timing and size of a retail move.

The EIA handbook’s Brent relationship describes a forecasting method for U.S. motor-gasoline wholesale prices; it is not a guarantee for a particular retail location. Use a benchmark alert to decide when to check local prices, not to assume that every station will cross the same number.
A practical interpretation sequence is:
- Receive the WTI or Brent notification.
- Identify whether the move was upward or downward and whether the feed was delayed.
- Check a local station source rather than estimating the pump price from the crude number.
- Compare several nearby stations and note whether their prices have moved consistently.
- Decide based on the actual local price, your travel needs and any applicable deal deadline.
Build a low-noise monitoring plan
For occasional drivers
Subscribe to AAA email updates and use a station-finder workflow when you need fuel. Add a single crude alert only if a broad market signal helps you decide when to check prices. This avoids a stream of notifications that does not change your behavior.
For commuters
Use a local station source before your regular fill-up and save a few stations along your route. A downward crude alert can prompt a local-price check, while station data determines whether the trip or timing is worthwhile. GasBuddy’s four-hour Flash Deal window is relevant only when the route and schedule allow you to complete the purchase before expiration.
For businesses that track fuel exposure
Use named WTI or Brent alerts with explicit expiration dates and a second source for local or regional prices. Record the symbol, contract month, currency, feed latency and alert time in the message or an external log. Do not treat a benchmark event as an invoice price without checking the actual wholesale or retail market relevant to the business.
Troubleshoot missed, repeated or confusing alerts
No notification arrived
- Check that the alert is enabled and has not expired.
- Confirm that the device, browser or email account allows the selected channel.
- Check spam, notification focus modes and operating-system battery restrictions.
- Reopen the alert and verify the symbol, threshold and condition.
- Determine whether a delayed feed has not yet reached the level.
The alert fired in the wrong direction
- Review whether the condition was Crossing, Crossing up, Crossing down, Greater than or Less than.
- Confirm that the alert belongs to the intended contract month or continuous symbol.
- Check the chart’s quote currency and unit before changing the number.
Too many notifications arrived
- Change a recurring condition to one-time when you need only the next event.
- Add an expiration date.
- Use directional conditions instead of a broad crossing rule when only one direction matters.
- Move thresholds farther from the current price or remove levels that no longer support a decision.
The pump price did not follow the crude move
Check whether you were comparing a Brent-linked gasoline relationship with a WTI alert, whether the crude quote was delayed, and whether local wholesale, tax, inventory or competition effects could be dominating. Then verify several local stations instead of judging the relationship from one location.
Privacy, reliability and cost checks
An alert service needs permission to send notifications through the channels you select. Review which devices, browsers and email addresses receive the message, particularly if a webhook or shared account is involved. Keep the number of channels proportional to the urgency of the decision.
Alert limits and update intervals differ by service and may change. TradingView’s documented setup supports multiple delivery methods, but the available limits depend on the account and current product terms. The Oil Prices Live listing advertises 30-minute free-version updates, yet current plan restrictions should be verified before use. AAA’s email option is a subscription workflow, while GasBuddy’s Flash Deals have their own activation, deadline and receipt or payment requirements.
