Set a separate alert for each Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), or XRP market you follow, verify the quote currency and delivery permissions, and write the action you will take before the notification arrives. An alert should start a review of your investment plan—not an automatic decision to buy or sell.
Coinbase defines a price alert as an informational notification: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.” The exact menus, supported markets, alert limits, and availability vary by platform, region, account, and app version, so confirm the labels shown in your current app.
What a crypto price alert does—and what it does not do
A price alert watches a selected market and notifies you when a condition is met. Typical conditions include an asset moving above or below an absolute price, reaching a percentage change, or crossing a level you enter manually. The notification is separate from an order: it does not reserve funds, execute a trade, or prove that the market move is appropriate for your strategy.

Use the exact market pair shown by the service. BTC/USD, BTC/EUR, and BTC/USDT are different markets with different quoted prices. The same applies to ETH and XRP. A target of 100,000 in one quote currency is not interchangeable with 100,000 in another. Market and asset availability can differ by country, account type, and regulatory status.

The official documentation below explains current workflows for three major exchange apps. Interfaces change, and the cited pages may describe a different layout from the one on your device. If a label is missing, update the app, check the platform’s current help page, and confirm that you selected a spot market rather than a derivative or futures market.
Write a review plan before creating each alert
An alert is most useful when its meaning is decided in advance. Before saving one for BTC, ETH, or XRP, record four items in a note, spreadsheet, or optional paper journal:
- Why this price matters: tie the level to an existing allocation rule, a scheduled portfolio review, a support or resistance study, a risk limit, or another specific reason. “It feels cheap” is not a rule.
- Time horizon: state whether the alert is for a short-term observation, a multi-week review, or a long-term investment decision. The same price can mean different things on different horizons.
- Facts to check: list what you will examine after the notification, such as your current position size, cash available, planned maximum loss, recent news, liquidity, and whether the alert was caused by a brief spike.
- Cooling-off step: choose a pause before opening an order screen. Examples include waiting 15 minutes, reviewing the note twice, or discussing a planned change with a trusted person. This is a practical workflow, not a clinically validated intervention or a guarantee against impulsive behavior.
The SEC Office of Investor Education and Advocacy’s 2023 alert on crypto asset securities tells investors to “Create and follow an investment plan” and not let short-term emotions disrupt long-term objectives. That guidance addresses crypto asset securities and does not establish a universal rule for every crypto asset, platform, or jurisdiction; it is nevertheless a useful planning principle for any alert-based workflow. Read the SEC investor alert for its full scope and warnings about speculative risk.

Set BTC, ETH, or XRP alerts in the Coinbase mobile app
Coinbase’s documented mobile flow uses the watchlist. Repeat it separately for each asset and select the specific market or quote currency presented by the app.
- Open Coinbase and search for Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, or the desired market.
- Select the asset and tap the star to add it to your watchlist.
- Open the asset from the watchlist and tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose Add Alert.
- Select whether the price should move above or below your target, enter the target, and save.
- Open Account & Settings, then Notification Settings. Enable the push, in-app, and/or email channels you actually intend to monitor.
Coinbase states that only assets on the watchlist send price alerts. If an alert does not arrive, first verify that the star is still active, the target uses the intended quote currency, and the notification channel is enabled both in Coinbase and in the phone’s operating-system settings. The alert does not place an order; use the pause-and-review procedure below before considering any trade.
Set alerts in the Binance app or desktop app
Mobile app (Binance Pro)
The cited Binance Support instructions specify that app price alerts are available only in Binance Pro. If the alert icon is absent, check the app mode before assuming the feature is unavailable for your account.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open the app and select Markets.
- Search for the BTC, ETH, or XRP trading pair you want. Confirm the quote currency and whether you selected spot or another market type.
- Tap the alert icon for that pair.
- Choose an alert type, such as price reaches, rises above, drops to, percentage change, or 24-hour change.
- Enter the target and choose the frequency, then create the alert.
- In your phone’s system settings, allow Binance notifications. A saved alert cannot produce a visible push notification if the operating system blocks it.
Binance documents a maximum of 10 alerts for one trading pair and 50 alerts in total. Each alert is valid for 90 days, so a long-running plan needs a calendar reminder to review or recreate expiring alerts. These are operational limits stated by Binance, not a recommendation to use the maximum.

- Open the desktop app and select the Alerts icon.
- Choose Create Alert.
- Select the trading pair, condition, target, and frequency.
- Save the alert and confirm that the alert appears in the active list.
Regional interfaces may use different wording or positions for these controls. The support article was updated January 6, 2026; consult the current Binance instructions if your screen differs.
Set alerts on Kraken web or mobile
Mobile in Kraken Pro
- At the device level, allow push notifications for Kraken. Then open Kraken Pro and enable its push-notification permission if prompted.
- Open Markets or an open order/market view and open the alert modal.
- Select the BTC, ETH, XRP, or other supported market and choose the trigger parameters.
- Enter an absolute price or use the percentage-adjustment buttons.
- Create the alert, then inspect the active-alert list to confirm it was saved.
Kraken lets you view active and historical alerts and edit or delete active ones. The page says futures alerts cannot currently be created in the app. A futures alert created on the web may still notify a mobile device, but the notification might not link to the correct market in the way a spot alert does. If the link opens an unexpected screen, navigate manually to the intended market instead of placing an order from the notification.
Web
On the web interface, open the market-alert controls from the relevant market, select the market and trigger values, enter a price or percentage adjustment, and create the alert. Confirm it appears in the active list, then test your browser’s notification permission with a noncritical alert. Review the current Kraken Market Alerts documentation for labels that may have changed since the page’s January 20, 2026 update.

Do not treat the “saved” status as proof of delivery. Check the chain from the platform to the device or browser:
Rank #4
- In-app settings: confirm the relevant push, in-app, email, or browser option is enabled.
- Operating-system permission: in iOS or Android notification settings, allow the exchange app, permit sounds or banners as appropriate, and check that a focus, do-not-disturb, battery-saver, or background-data rule is not suppressing it.
- Browser permission: for web alerts, allow notifications for the exchange’s domain and keep the browser profile signed in where required.
- Market and threshold: check the pair, quote currency, above/below direction, percentage basis, and decimal precision.
- Expiration or quantity: remove obsolete alerts and verify that a time-limited alert has not expired or exceeded the platform’s cap.
- History: use the platform’s active or historical alert list when available. A missing entry means it was not saved, was deleted, or has expired.
Never lower a target merely to force a test on a volatile asset while you are deciding what to do with real money. If you need to test delivery, use the smallest practical condition and cancel it immediately after confirming the notification.
Turn the notification into a deliberate decision
When an alert arrives, follow the same sequence every time. The aim is to create distance between a price change and an order, not to predict the market.
- Read the notification without tapping an order button. Note the asset, market pair, direction, target, and timestamp.
- Leave the alert or close the notification. If it opens an exchange screen, navigate away from any buy or sell control.
- Start the pause you wrote down. Use your chosen 15-minute wait, longer review window, or other cooling-off rule.
- Open your written plan. Check the reason for the level, time horizon, position limits, and conditions that must be true before any action.
- Gather the additional facts on your list. Separate observed facts from assumptions; do not let a single candle or headline silently replace the plan.
- Choose one of three outcomes: no action, schedule a later review, or make the pre-authorized portfolio change within your limits. If the plan does not specify an action, do not invent one under pressure.
- Record the decision and the reason. Include whether the alert was useful, premature, duplicated, or based on the wrong market. Adjust future alerts only during a calm review.
This procedure is consistent with the SEC’s emphasis on an investment plan. A 2019 joint FINRA and SEC bulletin warns that certain real-time social-sentiment tools can prompt emotionally driven or impulsive decisions; that bulletin concerns social-sentiment products, not price alerts, so it should not be read as proof that price notifications cause impulsive trading. Its broader lesson is to avoid allowing fast-moving inputs to replace a long-term financial plan. See the FINRA and SEC bulletin for the specific context.

Absolute-price alerts
Use an absolute target when a specific price has a defined role in your plan—for example, a level at which you will rebalance or perform a scheduled review. Enter the quote currency exactly as displayed. Absolute prices are easy to understand but may become stale as the market moves; review them on the schedule in your plan.
Best Value
Percentage-change alerts
Use a percentage condition when you care about movement relative to the current market rather than one permanent number. This can make one rule easier to adapt across BTC, ETH, and XRP, whose nominal prices differ substantially. Confirm whether the app measures the change over 24 hours, from the moment the alert is created, or by another interval.
One alert per decision point
Create one alert for each asset and decision point instead of stacking many nearby thresholds. A crowded list can produce noise, duplicate notifications, or exceed platform limits. Give each alert a clear name or note where the platform permits it, such as “BTC quarterly review” rather than “buy BTC.” The neutral name keeps the notification from presupposing the decision.
Troubleshoot common failures
No alert appears in the app
Recheck that the asset or pair is supported in your region, that the target direction is correct, and that the alert appears in the platform’s active list. On Coinbase, verify the asset remains on the watchlist. On Binance mobile, verify that you are using Pro mode. On Kraken, check whether you attempted to create a futures alert in the mobile app, which the documented workflow does not support.
The alert is saved but no push arrives
Check both layers of permission: the platform’s notification settings and the phone or browser’s operating-system permission. Disable conflicting focus or battery restrictions temporarily, then create a carefully chosen test alert and cancel it after delivery. Email can be a useful secondary channel if you do not monitor push notifications continuously.
The notification opens the wrong market
Read the pair in the notification rather than trusting the deep link. This is especially important for web-created Kraken futures alerts, which the support page says may notify mobile devices without linking to the correct market. Navigate manually to the intended market and avoid trading until the pair and account type are confirmed.
An alert stops working after a while
Check expiration and limits. Binance states that alerts last 90 days and caps them at 10 per pair and 50 total. Delete stale rules, recreate expired ones during a planned review, and keep a record of the intended target so recreation does not become an emotional market-time decision.
The price crossed the level but the notification came late
Notifications depend on the platform, network, device, and operating-system delivery path. Treat the time shown by the app as an observation, not a guaranteed execution timestamp. A price may move through a level and reverse before you see it; that is another reason not to treat an alert as an order signal.
Quick Recap
Security and account hygiene
- Use the official app or a bookmarked official website, and keep the operating system and app updated.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication and review logged-in devices before changing alert settings.
- Do not share screenshots that expose balances, account identifiers, email addresses, or notification previews.
- Ignore unsolicited messages claiming that an alert requires a payment, seed phrase, remote-access session, or urgent transfer.
- Remember that an alert can reveal which assets you watch to anyone who can see your lock screen, email, or browser notifications; configure private previews if that matters to you.
A simple repeatable setup checklist
- Select the exact BTC, ETH, or XRP market and quote currency.
- Write the reason, horizon, facts to review, and cooling-off step.
- Choose an absolute-price or percentage condition that matches that plan.
- Save one clearly identified alert and confirm it in the active-alert list.
- Enable the platform channel and the device or browser permission.
- Record any expiration or quantity limit, especially Binance’s 90-day and cap rules.
- When notified, pause, consult the plan, verify the market, and document the decision before opening an order screen.
