To set a cryptocurrency price alert, choose a platform that lists the exact coin and market you want to watch, select a condition such as “above,” “below,” or a percentage move, choose how often it may trigger, and enable notifications on both the platform and your device. A price alert only tells you that a condition was reached; it does not buy or sell cryptocurrency automatically.
The steps differ between exchange apps, charting services, and independent trackers. The guide below covers Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, TradingView, and CoinGecko, including their current menu names, delivery settings, limits, and expiration behavior. Interfaces and availability can change by region, app version, market, or subscription plan, so check the platform’s current help page if a label is different.
What a cryptocurrency price alert does
An alert watches a selected market until a condition is met, then sends a notification through one or more channels. Typical conditions include a coin reaching a fixed price, moving above or below a level, or changing by a specified percentage. Depending on the service, the notification may appear as a phone push message, an in-app message, an email, a browser pop-up, a sound, or a webhook.

Coinbase states explicitly: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.” You must decide what to do after receiving it and place any trade separately in the relevant account.

Check these details before creating an alert
Most missed or apparently incorrect alerts come from selecting the wrong market or leaving delivery permissions disabled. Confirm the following before saving:
- Asset: Select the intended coin or token, not a similarly named asset.
- Market and pair: A BTC/USD alert is not the same as BTC/USDT or a venue-specific BTC pair. The alert follows the price displayed by the selected platform and market.
- Quote currency: Verify whether the threshold is in USD, USDT, EUR, or another currency.
- Direction: Choose whether the trigger is above, below, reaches, or a percentage increase or decrease.
- Target: Enter the exact price or percentage and check the decimal places shown by the platform.
- Frequency: Decide whether it should trigger once, recur, or use a platform-defined frequency.
- Expiration: Look for an end date or validity period. Some services automatically expire alerts.
- Delivery permissions: Enable the desired channel in the service and, where required, in your phone, browser, or operating-system settings.
Set an alert in the Coinbase mobile app
Create the alert
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for the stock or cryptocurrency.
- Select the asset and tap the star to add it to your watchlist.
- Open the asset from the watchlist and tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose whether the target is above or below the current price.
- Enter the target price and save.
Coinbase says only assets on your watchlist send these alerts. If the bell control is missing, confirm that the asset was added with the star first.
Choose where Coinbase can notify you
Open Account & Settings, then Notification Settings. Coinbase provides controls for push, in-app, and/or email notifications. Turn on the channel you intend to use and check the phone’s notification permission if push messages do not appear.

- Open Markets and search for the trading pair.
- Open the pair and tap the Alert icon.
- Select the alert type.
- Set the price or percentage and choose the frequency.
- Create the alert.
The listed condition types include price reaches, rises above, drops to, percentage change above or below, and 24-hour percentage-change conditions. Select the wording that matches your intent: “rises above” is different from “drops to,” even when the numerical level is the same.
Enable phone delivery
Binance instructs users to enable Binance notifications in the phone’s system settings. An alert can be correctly saved in the app yet produce no visible message if the operating system blocks notifications.
Understand Binance’s documented limits
The Binance support article updated January 6, 2026, documents a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts in total, and a 90-day validity period. These are product settings, not market statistics. Binance may change them by region, app version, or product, so check the current in-app instructions before relying on a long-running alert.
Desktop app
In the Binance desktop app, open the Alerts control and choose Create Alert. Select the pair, condition, target, and frequency, then save. The same market-selection checks apply: confirm the quote currency and pair before creating the alert.

Set an alert with Kraken
Web interface
- Sign in to Kraken and open the trading or market view.
- Locate the Alerts widget.
- If it is not visible, add the widget to the page layout.
- Create a price alert for the selected market, then set its target and direction.
- Save the alert and review that it appears as active.
Kraken’s available controls can depend on the interface and market type. Check that you are creating the alert for the intended spot or futures market rather than assuming that a setting carries across both.
Mobile notification requirements
Kraken’s mobile instructions require price-alert push notifications to be enabled in two places: the device’s notification settings and the Kraken app’s own notification settings. Both permissions must be on for push delivery. Kraken’s help page was last updated January 20, 2026, but menu labels can still differ between operating-system versions.
Set a chart alert in TradingView
Create a price condition
- Open the chart for the exact cryptocurrency symbol and market you want to monitor.
- Create a new alert and set the primary condition to Price.
- Choose the price operator, such as crossing, greater than, or less than, as presented for that symbol.
- Enter the price level.
- Set the trigger frequency and an expiration date or time.
- Select the delivery actions and save the alert.
TradingView’s general alert configuration can deliver an app notification, pop-up, email, webhook, or sound. App delivery requires the TradingView mobile app. Desktop notifications also depend on browser or operating-system permissions.
Check plan-dependent capacity
TradingView says the number of active alerts depends on your plan. Do not assume that an alert count from an older tutorial applies to your account. If a new alert cannot be created, review the plan’s current active-alert allowance and remove or edit an unused alert.

Set a custom alert in CoinGecko
Manual custom price alert
CoinGecko’s support instructions, last updated October 2, 2026, describe opening the alarm control on a coin and then either entering a custom number or choosing a preset percentage. The mobile setup tutorial also describes one-time and recurring notifications and a custom target price.
- Open the CoinGecko app and find the coin.
- Open the coin’s alarm control.
- Choose a preset percentage or enter a custom target price.
- Select a one-time or recurring notification if the option is presented.
- Save and verify that the alert is listed as active.
Automatic movement alerts
CoinGecko also has a separate Auto Price Alerts feature. When enabled, selecting a coin search result in the app can subscribe you to movement notifications without entering one specific target. These automatic alerts expire after 45 days, require device notifications, and can be turned off in Notification Center. Do not confuse them with a manually selected threshold: the automatic feature reports movement, while a custom alert watches the condition you entered.

Choose the platform that fits the alert you need
When the asset is traded on one exchange
An exchange app is usually the most direct choice when you already trade the selected pair there. You can select the pair shown in that venue and receive the alert in the same account environment. Confirm that the alert references the exact market you intend to trade; a price on one venue is not a promise that another venue displays the identical value.

When you need chart-based control
TradingView is suited to a chart workflow where you want to define a price operator, trigger frequency, expiration, and several delivery actions. It is also useful when you want a webhook or a browser pop-up rather than only an exchange-app push message. Review your plan before creating many alerts.

When you want an independent tracker
CoinGecko can be useful for watching a coin outside a particular exchange account. Decide whether you need a manually entered threshold or the separate Auto Price Alerts movement feed. The two features have different behavior and expiration rules.
When you want a simple watchlist threshold
Coinbase’s mobile workflow is straightforward for a watchlisted asset and a single above-or-below target. It is appropriate when a notification is all you need and you will handle any later decision yourself.
Use a reliable alert workflow
- Write the intended condition first. For example: “Notify me once when BTC/USD falls below 60,000,” or “Notify me whenever the selected pair rises 5%.” This prevents choosing a percentage condition when you meant a fixed price.
- Select the market before entering the number. The same coin can have different pairs and quote currencies.
- Review the direction aloud. “Below 60,000” and “above 60,000” are opposite instructions.
- Choose one-time or recurring behavior deliberately. A recurring alert can continue to notify you after the first movement; a one-time alert may need to be recreated.
- Set an expiration that matches your plan. Do not assume an alert remains active indefinitely, especially on services with documented validity periods.
- Test delivery without relying on a live market move. Check that the alert appears in the platform’s active-alert list and that the selected notification channel is permitted on your device.
- Review active alerts periodically. Remove stale thresholds and verify that a pair, quote currency, or expiration date has not changed.
Troubleshoot a missing or unexpected notification
The alert never appears
- Confirm that the alert was saved and is shown as active.
- Check that you selected the correct coin, pair, and quote currency.
- Verify the direction and target value, including decimal places.
- Check whether the alert already triggered, expired, or was limited by the platform.
- Enable the relevant push, email, browser, or in-app permission.
- For Coinbase, confirm that the asset is on the watchlist.
- For Binance, enable Binance notifications in the phone’s system settings.
- For Kraken mobile alerts, enable notifications both in device settings and inside the app.
- For TradingView, install and permit the mobile app for app delivery, or allow browser/system notifications for desktop delivery.
- For CoinGecko, enable device notifications and check whether you created a manual alert or an Auto Price Alert.
The alert references the wrong price
Open the alert details and identify the selected market. A BTC/USD condition can differ from BTC/USDT, and an exchange-specific pair can differ from an independent tracker’s displayed market. Recreate the alert on the exact pair you intend to monitor rather than changing only the number.
You expected an automatic trade
A price alert is not an order, strategy, or execution instruction. Receiving the notification does not submit a buy or sell. Any trade must be reviewed and placed separately through the relevant trading interface.
You cannot create another alert
Check the platform’s current capacity and expiration rules. Binance documents per-pair and total caps; TradingView’s active-alert allowance depends on the plan. Delete inactive alerts or wait for an expired alert to clear, then confirm that the new alert is attached to the intended market.
Keep the setup current
Platform interfaces, supported assets, regional availability, notification behavior, alert caps, and plan limits are volatile product details. The Binance limits cited above come from a help article updated January 6, 2026; Kraken’s notification page was last updated January 20, 2026; and CoinGecko’s custom-alert article was last updated October 2, 2026. Recheck the platform’s current instructions whenever you change apps, devices, markets, or subscription plans.
