You can set a Bitcoin or altcoin price alert in a few minutes on a tracking app or exchange: choose the exact asset or trading pair, define a price or movement condition, select how often it may fire, save it, and allow notifications on your device. An alert only tells you that a condition was met; it does not place a buy or sell order.
The menus and limits differ by service. The steps below cover CoinGecko, Binance, Coinbase and CoinMarketCap, followed by a decision guide, practical alert examples and fixes for alerts that do not arrive.
What a crypto price alert does
A price alert watches a selected coin or market pair and sends a notification when your rule is satisfied. Typical rules are a fixed price, crossing above or below a level, a percentage change, or a daily movement. You can use alerts instead of repeatedly refreshing charts, but you still decide what to do after the notification.
Recommended Free Tools
- Asset or pair: the alert is tied to the exact item you selected, such as BTC/USD or BTC/USDT. A similar-looking pair can have a different quote currency and price.
- Trigger: a target price, an above/below crossing, a percentage move, or (where offered) a 24-hour movement condition.
- Frequency: one notification, or recurring notifications whenever the condition is reached again.
- Delivery: push, in-app, email, or a combination, depending on the service.
Coinbase Help describes the feature precisely: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price.” Do not confuse an alert with a limit order, stop order, recurring purchase or portfolio rebalance. A notification does not reserve funds, open a position or confirm that a trade happened.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
Quick setup checklist
Use this sequence on almost any service:
- Identify the coin by its name and ticker, then confirm the quote currency and, on an exchange, the trading pair.
- Decide whether you need an absolute price, an above/below crossing, a percentage move or a 24-hour movement rule.
- Choose a threshold that corresponds to a decision you can actually make. Record the reason for the level in a separate note.
- Select a one-time or recurring frequency where the service offers that choice.
- Save the alert and confirm that it appears in the service’s active-alert list.
- Enable the app’s notification permission and the service’s own push, in-app or email setting.
- Test your notification setup with a noncritical alert if you are relying on it for an important review.
The last check matters because a correctly saved alert can still be hidden by operating-system settings, focus modes, battery restrictions or an inactive delivery channel.
Before you create an alert
Confirm the market you actually follow
Search for the coin by its name and ticker, then check the quote currency and venue. Bitcoin priced in U.S. dollars is not the same instrument as Bitcoin priced in euros or a stablecoin. On an exchange, select the trading pair you would use to trade; on a tracker, select the canonical asset page if you only need a reference price.
Check for similarly named tokens before saving. An alert attached to one asset will not automatically monitor another token with a related name, and an alert on BTC/USDT will not cover BTC/EUR. If your plan uses several markets, create and label separate alerts rather than assuming one price feed represents all of them.

A fixed level works when you have a clear decision point (for example, “notify me when BTC is below my planned entry price”). An above or below rule avoids ambiguity about direction. A percentage rule is useful when you want the same relative move across several altcoins. Daily movement rules describe a 24-hour change rather than a specific price.
Write down whether the number is intended as a trigger or merely a reminder. A price that briefly touches a level may produce a notification even if it moves away immediately. After receiving an alert, verify the live market and the relevant pair before deciding what to do.
Prepare notification permissions
Allow notifications for the app in iOS or Android settings and inside the service itself. If you select email or in-app delivery, confirm those channels are enabled as well. Do not rely on a push banner alone for a time-sensitive decision: operating-system focus modes, battery restrictions, logged-out sessions and network outages can delay delivery.
Keep the app updated and periodically review permissions after an operating-system update. If you use multiple devices, check which device is signed in and which one is allowed to display alerts. Notification history inside an app or by email can provide a second record when a banner disappears.

Website
- Open CoinGecko and navigate to the page for the exact coin.
- Select the alarm control on that coin page.
- Enter a custom target number or choose a percentage condition.
- Save the alert and verify that the service has permission to notify you through the channel you selected.
CoinGecko’s current support instructions (updated October 2, 2026) describe the alarm control as the place to enter either a custom number or a percentage. The website workflow may be relabeled as the interface changes, so look for the alarm or alert control on the coin page rather than a global chart setting.
Mobile app
- Create or sign in to a CoinGecko account; the mobile tutorial requires an account.
- Search for the coin and open its asset page.
- Tap the bell near the top of the page.
- Set the target and choose the frequency.
- Save the alert, then enable device notifications if you want push delivery.
The mobile tutorial, updated May 3, 2024, describes a “Once” option and recurring alerts that notify you each time the coin reaches the target. Choose “Once” for a single decision point; choose recurring only when repeated notifications are useful, because a volatile coin may revisit the same level many times.

CoinGecko is a practical choice when you want a coin-page reference price rather than an order-book-specific signal. Before acting on a notification, compare the displayed quote currency with the market where you would trade.
Set alerts in the Binance app or desktop site
Mobile app (Binance Pro)
- Open the Binance app in Binance Pro mode.
- Go to Markets and find the exact trading pair.
- Tap Alert.
- Select the alert type, such as an above/below price condition, a percentage change, or a 24-hour movement condition.
- Enter the price or movement threshold and choose the frequency.
- Create the alert and allow notifications in your device settings.
Desktop
- Open Alerts and choose Create Alert.
- Select the trading pair.
- Choose the condition and enter its value.
- Set the frequency and save.
Binance Support lists both target-price and percentage-change conditions, including above and below thresholds and 24-hour movement conditions. Its support page, updated January 6, 2026, states limits of 10 alerts per trading pair, 50 alerts in total and 90-day validity. These are operational settings, not an industry standard; Binance can change them, so check the current in-app help if an alert is refused or disappears after a period.

Because Binance alerts are attached to a pair, an alert on BTC/USDT will not automatically cover BTC/EUR or another market. Create separate alerts when the quote currency or market matters to your plan. The same applies to an altcoin listed against several stablecoins or fiat currencies.
Set price alerts in Coinbase
- In the Coinbase mobile app, search for and select the asset.
- Add it to your watchlist by tapping the star.
- Tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose Add Alert.
- Select an above or below movement and enter the price target.
- Save the alert.
Coinbase says only watchlisted assets send alerts, so skipping the star is a common reason the feature appears unavailable. Configure delivery under the app’s notification settings; Coinbase supports push, in-app and email notifications. Coinbase also explicitly states that alerts are informational and do not place an order.
If you remove an asset from the watchlist, review its alerts immediately. Watchlist status is part of Coinbase’s documented alert workflow, and the app’s labels or availability can vary by region and version. If you use email, confirm that messages are not being filtered into spam or a promotions folder.
Use CoinMarketCap notifications
CoinMarketCap’s notification settings support per-coin alerts and global preferences. The app can notify you about Bitcoin and Ethereum milestones and about movement in your watchlist. The available documentation does not specify a complete tap-by-tap creation path or every trigger type, so open the notification settings in your current app version and inspect the options shown for the coin you follow.

Use the same checks as with other services: confirm the asset, set the threshold or movement rule offered, save it, and grant operating-system permission. CoinMarketCap is useful when you want watchlist-level movement notifications or milestone notices in addition to individual coin conditions. Because the exact trigger menu is not stated, do not assume it supports the same price and frequency choices as Binance or CoinGecko.

Which service fits your alert?
| Service | Asset selection | Trigger types documented | Frequency or expiry | Delivery options documented |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoinGecko | Coin page; mobile search and selection | Custom number and percentage | “Once” or recurring on mobile; expiry not stated | Device push when enabled; other channels not stated |

| CoinMarketCap | Per-coin and watchlist settings | Per-coin alerts, Bitcoin/Ethereum milestones and watchlist movement; exact trigger menu not stated | Not stated | Global notification preferences; exact channels depend on app settings |
Choose based on four questions:
- Is the exact asset or pair supported? Exchange pairs are important when the execution market matters; a tracker may be sufficient for a general reference price.
- Does the rule match your plan? Use a fixed level for a specific price, a percentage for relative moves, and daily movement only when a 24-hour change is what you intend to monitor.
- Do you need one-time or recurring notices? One-time alerts reduce noise. Recurring alerts are useful for levels you monitor repeatedly.
- Which delivery channel can you reliably receive? Push is convenient, while email or in-app history can provide a second record.
You can use more than one service, but duplicate alerts can become noisy. A tracker can provide a broad coin-level reminder while an exchange alert follows the exact pair you would trade. Keep the trigger meaning clear so you do not mistake two different feeds for contradictory signals.
Build alerts that are useful instead of noisy
Use separate levels for separate decisions
For a volatile coin, create distinct alerts for an upside level, a downside level and (if supported) a percentage move. Label them in your own notes so you remember what action each notification is meant to prompt. Do not place several nearly identical thresholds on the same pair unless you have a reason; they can produce a stream of notifications without adding information.
Match the threshold to the quote currency
If your decision is based on a dollar value, use a dollar-quoted pair or tracker price. If you trade in euros or another currency, set the alert on that quote where available. Exchange rates can make two legitimate prices differ even when the underlying coin has not moved materially.

Choose a one-time alert when crossing a level should prompt a single review. Choose recurring alerts for a standing watch, but expect repeated notifications when price oscillates around the threshold. Binance’s documented 90-day validity also means a long-running monitoring plan may require renewal.
Record the context outside the alert
Most alert systems store a condition, not your full trading thesis. Keep a note of why the level matters, the quote currency, the date you created it and what you intend to check when it fires. This helps prevent an old threshold from being mistaken for a current plan.
Review stale alerts
After a major price move or a change in your holdings, review active alerts and delete levels that no longer represent a decision. This is especially important for recurring alerts, which can continue producing messages long after the original context has disappeared. Binance’s validity limit provides an automatic review point, while the other services do not state an expiry in the cited instructions.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect notifications
No notification arrives
- Check that the alert is saved and still listed as active.
- Verify the app’s notification permission in the operating system.
- Check the service’s own notification settings and selected delivery channel.
- Disable battery optimization or background restrictions for the app if your device is suppressing it.
- Confirm that focus, Do Not Disturb or a work-profile policy is not hiding alerts.
- Open the app while connected to the internet and check whether the alert expired or was deleted.
- For Coinbase, confirm that the asset is still watchlisted; for CoinGecko mobile, confirm that you are signed in.
The alert fired at an unexpected time
- Recheck the selected coin or trading pair and quote currency.
- Review whether the rule was a percentage or 24-hour movement rather than an absolute price.
- Check the frequency: a recurring condition can fire again after the price revisits the level.
- Remember that different services may use different market feeds, so small price differences are possible.
- Check whether the alert is based on a crossing direction, not merely the price remaining above or below a level.
You cannot create another Binance alert
Review the documented caps: no more than 10 alerts per pair and 50 overall, with 90-day validity, according to Binance Support’s January 6, 2026 page. Delete unused alerts or wait for an expired one, then consult the current in-app help because limits may have changed.

Coinbase does not offer the alert control
Search for the asset again, add it to the watchlist with the star, and then look for the bell-plus icon. Coinbase documents watchlisting as a prerequisite for its alerts. If the option is still absent, check the app version and regional availability.
CoinGecko mobile does not save the alert
Sign in to the required account, open the coin’s page rather than a general search result, set both the target and frequency, and save. Then verify device push permission if delivery is expected outside the app.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Security and reliability considerations
Price alerts do not require exchange trading permissions, but an exchange app account still deserves normal security protection. Use a unique password, multi-factor authentication and a screen lock. Never give a person claiming to “activate” alerts your password, one-time code or wallet recovery phrase.
Alerts are not guaranteed real-time execution signals. Delivery can be delayed by market-data latency, app outages, network problems, device settings or regional feature changes. Treat the message as a prompt to verify the live market and your account, not as proof that a trade occurred. An alert also cannot tell you whether liquidity, spread or your preferred order type is available when you check.
What to verify when the app changes
Product interfaces and availability are not permanent. CoinGecko’s support instructions were updated October 2, 2026, with a mobile tutorial updated May 3, 2024; Binance’s support FAQ was updated January 6, 2026; Coinbase Help and CoinMarketCap notification settings were checked October 13, 2026 without a publication date shown. Regional rules, app versions, menu names, alert limits and delivery channels may change. If a label in this guide is missing, open the service’s current help or notification settings and look for the equivalent alert, bell or alarm control rather than assuming the feature has been removed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a price alert automatically buy or sell Bitcoin?
No. It is a notification that the selected asset or pair reached a condition. You must open the relevant service and place any order yourself.
Why did my Bitcoin alert not fire when another app showed the price?
Check the exact asset, trading pair and quote currency. Services can use different market feeds, and a percentage or 24-hour movement rule is not the same as an absolute price threshold.

Can I set an alert for an altcoin percentage move?
Yes where the service offers percentage conditions. CoinGecko documents percentage alerts, and Binance documents percentage-change conditions. Select the exact altcoin before saving.
How do I get repeated notifications at the same level?
Choose a recurring frequency when the service provides one. CoinGecko mobile describes recurring alerts; Binance provides frequency choices. Expect repeated messages if price revisits the threshold.
Why is the Coinbase alert button missing?
Coinbase says the asset must be on your watchlist. Search for it, tap the star, then look for the bell-plus icon and Add Alert.
Do Binance alerts expire?
Binance Support states a 90-day validity period and limits of 10 alerts per trading pair and 50 total. These settings can change, so check the current in-app help.
Do I need a CoinGecko account?
The CoinGecko mobile tutorial requires an account. Sign in before searching for the coin, tapping the bell, choosing a target and frequency, and saving.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Choose the channel you reliably check. Coinbase documents push, in-app and email; CoinGecko and Binance instructions emphasize enabling device notifications. You can use an available second channel for a record, but verify the current app settings.
The Bottom Line
For dependable crypto alerts, select the exact coin or trading pair, use a trigger that matches your decision, choose one-time or recurring delivery deliberately, save the rule and enable every required notification permission. Treat the message as a prompt to verify the live market—not as an automatic trade.
