To stop a child from buying items in Toca Boca World, configure the store account on the device rather than looking for a purchase switch inside the game. On iPhone or iPad, use Apple Screen Time restrictions and Ask to Buy. On Android, use Google Play family controls and choose which purchases require approval.
These controls apply to the Apple App Store or Google Play account handling the transaction. Labels and available options can differ by device, account, child age, and region, so confirm that the child is using the managed account before relying on the restriction.
Where Toca Boca World purchases are controlled
Toca Boca World in-app purchases are processed by the store account signed in on the device. The practical consequence is important: a control set on one Apple Account or Google Play account does not automatically govern a different account, even if the same child uses the same tablet.

Start by identifying the payment route:
- iPhone or iPad: the Apple App Store account used for the purchase.
- Android phone or tablet: the Google Play account and billing path used for the purchase.
After you identify that account, apply the platform’s family controls. Toca Boca World itself does not provide a separate universal approval system that overrides the store’s controls.

Set up purchase approval on iPhone or iPad
Apple provides two complementary protections. Screen Time can restrict unwanted downloads and purchases, while Ask to Buy can require a parent to approve an eligible request, including an in-app purchase.
Open the child’s family settings
- Open Settings on the iPhone or iPad.
- Select the child under Family. If your device presents a different family layout, open Screen Time for the child instead.
- Open Apps & Websites or the Screen Time restrictions available on that device.
The exact wording can vary with the device, account configuration, age settings, and region. The important check is that you are editing the child’s managed profile, not only your own device profile.
Restrict downloads and purchases with Screen Time
- In the child’s Screen Time controls, open the restrictions for App Store purchases and downloads.
- Turn on the restrictions that block unwanted app purchases and downloads.
- Keep the Screen Time passcode private. If the child knows that code, the restriction can be changed on the device.
This layer is useful when you want to prevent a child from freely downloading or buying content. It is separate from the approval workflow described next.
Require approval with Ask to Buy
- In the child’s family controls, open Ask to Buy.
- Enable Require Purchase Approval.
- When the child initiates an eligible download or purchase, Apple sends a request to the parent.
- Review the request and approve or decline it from the parent account.
Apple states that Ask to Buy covers eligible app downloads and purchases, including in-app purchases. That makes it the Apple setting to use when you want a decision before a Toca Boca World purchase is completed, rather than simply blocking the transaction category.

Protect the approval path
- Do not share the Screen Time passcode with the child.
- Keep the Apple Account password and other verification credentials private.
- Make sure approval requests are directed to the parent account that manages the child’s family profile.
- If more than one Apple device is used, check that the purchasing Apple Account is the same account whose family controls you configured.
Set up purchase approval on Android
On Android, Google Play family controls determine whether purchases using Google Play billing need approval. The available choices let you apply approval broadly or limit it to in-app purchases.
Open the child’s Google Play controls
- Open the Google Play family controls for the child’s managed account.
- Choose Controls on Google Play.
- Open Purchase & download approvals.
If you cannot see these controls, verify that you are signed in as the family manager and that you opened the child’s managed account rather than an unrelated Google account on the device.
Choose the approval scope
Google Play presents three relevant choices:

Select the strongest option that matches how your family wants to manage the account. Keep the parent verification method private; otherwise a child who can complete verification may be able to authorize a transaction.
Understand the Google Play boundary
These approvals apply to purchases made through Google Play’s billing system. A different store account or a different payment path is outside that control. If a charge does not appear to follow the approval setting, first check which Google account and billing route handled it before changing other settings.

Apple and Google Play: which setting matches your goal?

The platform account, not the device model, is the deciding reference. A second tablet, phone, or family member’s device can use different controls if it is signed in to a different purchasing account.
What Toca Boca World’s own account rules mean
Toca Boca’s Help Center states: “At this time, we do not support Family Sharing for in-app purchases.” Purchased content is therefore available only to the account that made the purchase. Do not assume that Apple Family Sharing will make a Toca Boca World pack available to another child’s account.
Plan purchases around the paying account
- Decide which Apple Account or Google Play account should own any paid Toca Boca World content before buying.
- Use that same account when checking whether a purchase was completed and when contacting the store about a charge.
- Do not buy on one child’s account expecting the content to appear automatically on another child’s account.
This ownership rule is separate from parental approval. Ask to Buy or Google Play approval can control whether a transaction proceeds, but neither feature changes which account owns content after a purchase.
Choose a setup for common family situations
The child has a managed account and a personal device
Use the child’s profile in Apple Family or Google Play family controls. Require approval for in-app purchases, keep the parent verification details private, and check that the store account on the device is the managed one.

Several children share one device
Identify the store account that is active when Toca Boca World opens its purchase flow. Apply controls to that account and explain which parent account receives approval requests. If children switch accounts, repeat the account check for each account; a restriction on one account does not establish the same protection for another.
The child uses more than one device
Review the purchasing account on every device. Apple controls follow the relevant Apple Account, and Google Play controls follow the relevant Google Play account. A control configured on one account will not protect a purchase made through a different account or billing route.
You want to allow downloads but review paid game content
On Apple, use Ask to Buy for approval and set Screen Time restrictions according to the downloads you want to allow. On Android, choose Only in-app purchases if you want Google Play to focus approval on purchases inside the game rather than every content request.

- Confirm whether the device is an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
- Write down which Apple Account or Google Play account is active for the store transaction.
- Open the child’s family profile, not only the parent’s general settings.
- On Apple, verify both the relevant Screen Time purchase restrictions and Require Purchase Approval under Ask to Buy.
- On Android, verify Controls on Google Play and the selected Purchase & download approvals scope.
- Check that the parent passcode, Apple Account credentials, or Google verification method is not accessible to the child.
- Record which account owns any content that has already been purchased.
Because platform labels and family features vary by account, age, device, and region, compare what you see with the current help instructions shown for your platform when a label is missing or moved.
Troubleshoot a purchase that was not blocked

What to do after an accidental charge
First identify whether the transaction was processed by Apple or Google Play. Use that store’s current purchase-support or refund process for the account that was charged. The available remedy and eligibility are determined by the store’s rules; there is no single refund rule supplied by Toca Boca that covers every Apple and Google Play transaction.
Keep the transaction account information and charge details available when requesting help. If the charge came through a different store account than the one you configured, correct the family controls on the account that actually handled the payment.

Maintain the controls over time
- Recheck the active store account after a child receives a new device or signs out and back in.
- Review the child’s family profile when age or account-management settings change.
- Keep parent passwords, Screen Time passcodes, and verification methods private.
- Review approval requests rather than approving automatically; approval is the point at which you decide whether the purchase is appropriate.
- Remember that platform labels can change by device, account, age, and region, so use the current settings shown on the device.
The reliable pattern is consistent: control the store account that pays, require approval at the platform level, and treat Toca Boca World content as owned by the account that purchased it.
