Open your sportsbook app’s profile or account settings and look for Responsible Gaming, Safer Gambling, Player Protection, or Limits. Set a deposit limit to cap money going into the account; set a separate wager, stake, or spend limit if you also want to restrict betting activity. The exact menus, available controls, and effective time depend on the app and your location.
Find the limits in your sportsbook app
- Sign in and open your profile, account, or settings menu.
- Choose a section named Responsible Gaming, Safer Gambling, Player Protection, or Limits. Labels and locations differ by operator.
- Choose the type of limit you want, then review its definition, period, reset rule, and account scope before entering an amount.
- Save the setting and complete any confirmation step. Check the app’s status message for confirmation and the time the limit takes effect.
As one product-specific example, DraftKings’ US Sportsbook help documentation gives this route in its app: tap the profile photo, open Responsible Gaming, select Deposit Limits, choose a period and amount, then tap Save and Confirm. DraftKings says the app displays a confirmation when the limit is set. Its desktop instructions use Account Information, Responsible Gaming, and Limits. Deposit limits and wager limits do different jobs

These controls are not interchangeable. For example, bet365’s Michigan information says reaching a deposit limit does not necessarily stop a customer from using available funds to place bets. The same page defines its Spend Limit by the total amount wagered in a calendar period and says returns may add back to the available amount. Other operators may calculate limits differently, so use the definition shown in your own app. bet365 Michigan: Safer gambling
If your aim is to limit how much you can bet—not only how much new money you can add—look for a separate wager, stake, or spend control. North Carolina’s State Lottery Commission lists both deposit and wager limits among responsible-gambling tools and notes that availability varies by operator. Choose a period and understand its reset
Apps may offer daily, weekly, and monthly periods, but the labels alone do not tell you exactly when an allowance renews. Check whether the period follows a fixed calendar boundary or another schedule, and whether the limit covers the whole account or only a particular product or channel.
For example, bet365’s Michigan information describes its own calendar day, Saturday-to-Friday week, and calendar month. Those reset rules should not be assumed to apply to another sportsbook. The UK Gambling Commission’s rules require covered operators to offer gross deposit limits over 24 hours, 7 days, and 1 month; when multiple periods are set, the most restrictive applies. Confirm when your limit becomes active
After saving, read the confirmation for the limit’s status and effective time. A requested change may not take effect on the same schedule in every app or jurisdiction. Under UK Gambling Commission guidance, customer-requested reductions should be immediate, while increases require at least 24 hours and positive reconfirmation; operators must tell customers when the requested limit comes into force. What UK rules say about deposit limits
For operators covered by UK Gambling Commission rules, current RTS 12 guidance says customers must have accessible account-level financial limits, a free-text entry or equivalent, and gross deposit limits over 24 hours, 7 days, and 1 month. A gross deposit limit is based on money paid into the account and blocks further deposits when reached. Optional stake and loss limits are distinct tools.
The Commission’s staged changes also set specific dates: from 31 October 2025, operators were required to prompt new customers before their first deposit and provide review prompts at least every six months. From 30 June 2026, “deposit limit” must mean a limit based solely on amounts paid into the account over a set duration; other controls, including limits based on losses or withdrawals, can still be offered under different labels. These requirements apply in the UK regulatory context, not everywhere. Other account controls and support
If a spending cap is not enough, your app or local regulator may also provide time or session controls, reality checks, cooling-off periods, self-exclusion, or support resources. Availability and contact details depend on where you live. Use the regulator or a gambling-support service in your jurisdiction for location-appropriate help.
