You can stop monitoring crypto charts continuously by creating threshold alerts in a market-data app, exchange, or charting platform. For straightforward price targets, CoinGecko is the most flexible general-purpose option because it supports custom prices, percentage presets, and recurring alerts where available. Coinbase is convenient if your assets already sit on a watchlist. Binance is useful for trading-pair and peer-to-peer alerts, while TradingView is the better choice when a notification depends on an indicator, strategy, or drawing rather than price alone.
An alert is a notification, not automatically a trade. Coinbase states that its price alerts only tell you an asset has reached a chosen price and do not place an order. Other services described here also require you to review the market and take action separately unless you use a distinct trading automation feature.
Choose the alert service that matches your trigger
Start by deciding what should cause the notification. An absolute target such as “Bitcoin reaches $70,000” is different from a percentage move such as “the coin rises 5%.” A technical condition, such as an indicator crossing a level, needs a charting platform rather than a basic watchlist alert.

Menus, supported assets, limits, and notification channels can change with an app version, account type, or region. Treat the labels below as the documented paths, then confirm the current screen in your installation.

Decide what your alert should mean before creating it
Use an absolute price when the level itself matters
An absolute alert is useful when you have a specific decision point: for example, an illustrative Bitcoin alert above $70,000 or below $60,000. Enter the exact currency and value, and check that you selected the intended trading pair or asset. A price quoted in dollars is not interchangeable with the same number in euros or another fiat currency.
Use a percentage trigger to follow changing prices
A percentage preset follows the asset’s current reference price rather than a fixed number. This is useful when you want to know about a meaningful move without continually editing the target as the market changes. CoinGecko documents both custom targets and preset percentages. Binance’s peer-to-peer alert flow also includes percentage choices.
Choose one-time or recurring delivery deliberately
A one-time alert is appropriate for a single decision. A recurring alert is better for a level you want to monitor repeatedly, where the service offers that option. Do not assume every platform repeats an alert: Coinbase’s cited help page does not describe a recurring schedule, and Binance alerts can expire after 90 days.

Set the alert as a reminder to evaluate the market, not as proof that a trade happened. Coinbase’s wording is explicit: “Price alerts are only notifications that an asset has reached a certain price. They do not place an order for that asset.” The alert workflows below are notification features; they do not authorize a purchase or sale.
How to set a price alert on CoinGecko
CoinGecko is the simplest starting point when you need a custom threshold or a recurring reminder across a broad list of assets. Its 2024 guide reported coverage of more than 14,000 coins and over 4,000 NFTs across 11 chains at the time of writing. Coverage and availability can change, so search for the exact asset before relying on an alert.

- Open the CoinGecko page for the coin you want to monitor.
- Select the alarm or bell control on the coin page.
- Enter a custom target price, or choose one of the available percentage presets.
- Choose one-time or recurring delivery when that choice is offered.
- Save the alert and allow mobile notifications if you want a phone prompt.
Check the account and portfolio requirements
CoinGecko’s guide says an account is required for its alert function. Sign in before troubleshooting a missing alarm control or an alert that does not persist. CoinGecko also describes portfolio grouping and mobile alerts, so you can organize related holdings while keeping the alert attached to the correct coin.
Build a useful CoinGecko alert set
Use one alert for the level that would change your decision and, if recurring delivery is available, a separate alert for a percentage move. Avoid creating many closely spaced thresholds for the same coin; a burst of notifications can make the genuinely important level easy to miss. Confirm the currency displayed on the coin page before saving.

Coinbase’s mobile workflow is designed for people who already maintain a watchlist. The alert is tied to the asset you select, so first verify that you are on the correct asset page rather than a similarly named token.
- Open the Coinbase mobile app and search for the asset.
- Select the asset, then add it to your watchlist with the star icon.
- Tap the bell-plus icon.
- Choose Add Alert.
- Select whether the alert should fire when the price is above or below a target, then enter the target value.
- Open notification settings and enable push, in-app, and/or email delivery according to your preference.
What a Coinbase alert does not do
The alert is informational. It does not submit a market order, limit order, or any other order on your behalf. When the notification arrives, you still need to open the app, review the market, and decide whether to act. The cited Coinbase help page does not state a total alert limit or a recurring schedule, so do not assume either behavior without checking your current account interface.
If the Coinbase notification is missing
- Confirm the asset remains on your watchlist and that the alert appears under its bell control.
- Check both Coinbase’s notification settings and the phone’s operating-system permission for push notifications.
- If you selected email, verify the address associated with the account and check filtered mail.
- Recheck whether the condition was set to above or below and whether the target used the expected currency.
How to set a price alert on Binance
Binance has separate concepts for ordinary market alerts and peer-to-peer (P2P) alerts. Use the ordinary market path for a trading pair on the exchange. Use the P2P path when the relevant condition includes a fiat currency, payment method, or percentage/target-price choice.

Market-app alert steps
- Open Markets in the Binance app.
- Search for the trading pair, such as the exact asset/quote combination you intend to follow.
- Tap Alert.
- Choose the alert type.
- Enter the price or frequency required by that alert type.
- Create the alert and confirm that it appears in your active-alert list.
P2P alert steps
In the P2P workflow, select the fiat-crypto pair and payment method first. Then choose the percentage or target-price condition and create the alert. The available choices depend on the pair and payment method shown in your account.
Plan around Binance’s limits and expiry
Binance’s updated 2026 guide documents a maximum of 50 total price alerts and a validity period of up to 90 days. A separate Binance support guide states a maximum of 10 alerts per trading pair. These are different constraints: you can hit the per-pair ceiling before reaching the account-wide ceiling. Review longer-term alerts before their 90-day validity ends and recreate them if the level is still relevant.
How to create advanced alerts in TradingView
TradingView is the best fit when “price reaches X” is too simple. Its documented alert types include direct price conditions, indicator conditions, strategy conditions, and drawing-tool conditions. You can also choose how often a condition may trigger.
- Open the alert dialog for the symbol or watchlist item you want to monitor.
- Choose a price condition or select the technical indicator, strategy, or drawing-tool condition you need.
- Set the operator and value, such as crossing above or crossing below a level.
- Choose the trigger frequency.
- Set an expiration date, or choose an open-ended option where your account and the alert type support it.
- Save the alert and confirm the condition shown in the active-alert list.
Use the condition text as a final check
Technical alerts can be wrong because the operator, timeframe, or plotted object is not the one you intended. Before saving, read the complete condition in the dialog: verify the symbol, indicator, comparison direction, value, and frequency. A drawing-based alert should be attached to the intended line or shape, not merely to the chart currently visible.
When TradingView is unnecessary
If you only need a single absolute Bitcoin or altcoin price, a CoinGecko, Coinbase, or Binance alert is usually simpler. Use TradingView when the extra condition prevents false notifications, such as requiring an indicator or strategy event in addition to a price level.

How to use CoinMarketCap alerts and watchlist notifications
CoinMarketCap’s app provides per-coin alerts and watchlist movement notifications. Its settings information also describes an app inbox and notifications on signed-in devices.
- Open the CoinMarketCap app and select the coin you want to follow.
- Create the per-coin alert, or add the coin to your watchlist for movement notifications.
- Open the app’s notification settings and confirm that inbox or signed-in-device notifications are enabled as appropriate.
- Check the phone’s operating-system notification permission for the app.
Because watchlist movement notices and a specific per-coin threshold serve different purposes, decide which one you created. A movement notification may not represent the same condition as an absolute target you entered elsewhere.

Create a small set of decision levels
Start with the few prices that would actually change what you do: a level above which you would investigate a rally, a level below which you would reassess risk, or a percentage move that warrants attention. More alerts are not automatically better. A crowded list produces notification fatigue and makes it harder to recognize the important message.
Use different services for different jobs
You can use one service for broad asset coverage and another for technical conditions. For example, keep a simple absolute-price alert in CoinGecko for a coin you hold, while using TradingView for a condition that also requires an indicator. Avoid setting duplicate alerts on every platform unless you intentionally want redundancy.

Write down what decision each alert supports. Review Binance alerts before their 90-day validity ends. For services without a documented expiry in the cited material, periodically inspect the active-alert list and delete levels that no longer match your plan.

Enable the delivery channels you will actually see
Mobile push is useful when you carry the phone; email can provide a record; in-app inboxes require you to open the service. Enabling every channel can create duplicates, so choose the smallest combination that is reliable for your routine. Device permissions are separate from an app’s internal notification toggle, which is why both settings must be checked.
Use alerts as prompts, not forecasts
A threshold only tells you that the condition occurred. It does not explain why the move happened, whether liquidity is sufficient, or whether the price will continue in the same direction. Open the relevant market view after the notification and make the decision your alert was designed to support.
Troubleshoot alerts that do not arrive or behave as expected
No notification appears
- Confirm the alert is saved and active rather than still being edited.
- Check the app’s notification settings and the operating system’s permission separately.
- For email alerts, verify the account address and filtered folders.
- On CoinMarketCap, check both the app inbox setting and signed-in-device notifications.
- On CoinGecko, verify that you are signed in because the guide requires an account for alerts.
The alert fired at an unexpected time
- Verify the asset and quote currency or trading pair.
- Check whether the condition was above, below, crossing, or a percentage move.
- In TradingView, review the selected timeframe, indicator, strategy, or drawing and the trigger frequency.
- For Binance, confirm that you created a market-pair alert rather than a P2P alert, or vice versa.
The alert stopped working later
- Check for an expiry date. Binance alerts can be valid for up to 90 days.
- Review the platform’s current limits if you added many alerts; Binance documents both a 50-alert total limit and a 10-alert-per-pair limit.
- Look for an app update or changed account-region setting that may have moved the menu or altered available assets.
You expected an order to execute
Re-read the alert type. A notification is not an order. Coinbase explicitly says its alerts do not place orders, and the setup paths in this guide are notification workflows. If you need automated execution, that is a separate feature requiring its own product, permissions, and risk review.

Reliability and timing: what you can and cannot assume
The cited provider documentation does not quantify notification latency, uptime, or guaranteed delivery. Therefore, do not treat an alert as an instantaneous market signal or as proof that you could transact at the displayed threshold. Prices can move while a notification is being delivered, and an app, device, network, or account setting can delay or suppress it.
Use alerts to reduce routine chart watching, then verify the condition in the service before acting. Keep the platform’s current limits and menu labels in mind because they can change by app version, account type, and region.
