Set a Satisfactory server’s administrator password while claiming it in the in-game Server Manager. The optional player password is configured separately under Server Settings. If you forget the administrator password, there is no in-game reset; you must remove the server’s ServerSettings.PORT.sav file and claim the server again.
Know which Satisfactory password you need
Satisfactory dedicated servers use two separate password controls. The administrator password protects server-management actions, while the player password controls whether people may join the server. They are set in different places and serve different purposes.

The Official Satisfactory Wiki’s dedicated-server documentation describes claiming as a prerequisite for starting a game. After the server is claimed, you can create a new game or import an existing save from the same Server Manager.
Set the administrator password on a new server
Use this process the first time you connect to an unclaimed dedicated server. The password you enter during this process becomes the credential used for future administration.

- Open Server Manager. Start Satisfactory and open Server Manager from the main menu.
- Add the server. Choose the option to add a server, then enter the connection details requested by the game or your hosting provider.
- Give the server a name. Enter a recognizable name so you can identify it if you manage more than one server.
- Set the administrator password. Enter the password in the administrator-password field and confirm it. This claims the server.
- Start or load a game. Once the claim succeeds, use Server Manager to create a new game or import an existing one.
Claiming is not the same as enabling a join password. The administrator password establishes ownership and management access; it does not automatically require every player to enter a password.
Host instructions describe the same claim flow; for example, the XGamingServer walkthrough covers claiming and recovery at XGamingServer’s Satisfactory admin-password guide. The exact fields can vary by game build or hosting panel, and the available documentation does not verify every label against the October 2026 release.

Player-password protection is separate and is off by default. Enable it after the server has been claimed if you want to restrict joining to people who know the join password.
- Open Server Manager and select the claimed server.
- Open the Server Settings tab.
- Find Player password protection.
- Click Change Password next to that setting.
- Enter and confirm the player password, then save the setting if the interface presents a separate save control.
Give players the player password, not the administrator password. Keeping the two credentials different limits the damage if a join password is shared more widely than intended.

What the administrator password lets someone do
Anyone who can authenticate with the administrator password can use the server-management functions protected by it. The documented administrative scope includes:
- Loading saves
- Changing server options
- Creating new games
For that reason, treat the administrator password as an owner credential rather than a general invite code. Store it in a password manager and share it only with people who should be able to alter the server or its worlds.
Change an existing administrator password
You must know the current administrator password before changing it through the game interface. Changing the player password does not change the administrator credential.
- Select the server. In Server Manager, select the existing server.
- Authenticate. Click Authenticate, enter the current administrator password, and confirm.
- Open server settings. Go to the Server Settings tab.
- Change the credential. Find Admin Password and press Change Password.
- Confirm the new password. Enter the replacement password and submit the change.
Afterward, current administrators must use the new password when they authenticate again. Some hosting providers advise restarting the server after a password change so the new value is applied; follow your provider’s instructions if its panel requests a restart. Host-specific procedures are documented by HostHavoc, BisectHosting, and Apex Hosting.

Reset a forgotten administrator password
Satisfactory does not provide an in-game “forgot password” workflow for the administrator password. The documented recovery method is to remove the server-settings save file, then claim the server again with a new password.
Before deleting anything
- Make a backup copy of the server-settings file.
- Stop the server if your host provides a stop control, so the file is not being written while you work.
- Confirm that you are working in the correct server installation or hosting container.
File locations differ between a self-managed installation and hosted containers. Use your host’s file manager or its documented access method to locate the file; do not assume that a path from another provider applies to your server.

- Locate the file named
ServerSettings.PORT.sav, wherePORTis the server’s port number. - For a server using port 7777, the filename would be
ServerSettings.7777.sav. - Keep the backup, then delete the active settings file.
- Restart the server.
- Open Server Manager, add or select the server, and claim it by setting a new administrator password.
The official wiki identifies this file-deletion method at Dedicated servers. The reset has wider effects than changing one credential: it also resets the server name, player password, auto-load session name, and certificate. Your save data is not described as being removed by this specific settings-file reset, but restoring the backup is the safest way to undo an accidental deletion or recover the previous configuration.

Troubleshoot the common password problems
The server will not start a game
An unclaimed server cannot start a game. Return to Server Manager and complete the claim step by setting an administrator password. After claiming, create a new game or import an existing save from Server Manager.

Changing an existing administrator password requires authentication with the current one first. Select the server, click Authenticate, enter the current administrator password, and then return to Server Settings > Admin Password > Change Password.
Players can join without entering a password
That is expected when player-password protection is disabled. Enable it under Server Settings by using Change Password beside Player password protection. This setting is independent of the administrator password.
The reset did not let me claim the server again
Check that you deleted the settings file belonging to the server’s actual port and installation. A filename such as ServerSettings.7777.sav applies only when the server uses port 7777. Hosted servers may store the file inside a provider-specific container. Stop and restart the correct server instance, then try the claim process again.

The server name or other settings disappeared
That is an expected consequence of deleting ServerSettings.PORT.sav. The reset also clears the server name, player password, auto-load session name, and certificate. Re-enter those settings after reclaiming the server, or restore the backup if the deletion was unintended.

Practical password-management checklist
- Set the administrator password during the initial claim; an unclaimed server cannot begin a game.
- Use a separate player password when you want to limit who can join.
- Do not distribute the administrator password as the normal player invite.
- Record the current administrator password securely before changing it.
- Back up the server-settings file before any password-reset attempt.
- When using a hosting provider, follow its file-path and restart instructions rather than copying paths from another provider.
- After a password change, have every administrator authenticate with the new credential.
Version and hosting considerations
The claim, authentication, and settings workflow above is documented for Satisfactory dedicated servers, but the available sources do not verify every screen against a specific October 2026 game build. A minor update may rename a button or rearrange a tab without changing the underlying sequence: claim the server with an administrator password, authenticate to change that credential, and configure player protection separately.
Self-hosted servers and rented servers can expose different file managers and restart controls. The password concepts remain the same, while the location of ServerSettings.PORT.sav and the way you stop or restart the process are host-specific.
