You can self-host OroCRM on a Linux VPS with either the Docker Compose workflow shipped for your exact Oro release or a native Nginx/Apache and PHP-FPM stack. A typical small, single-server installation starts at 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and SSD storage, but active users, imports, integrations and Enterprise services can require substantially more capacity.
Use a supported Linux distribution, pin every runtime to the release documentation, place PostgreSQL and background workers under supervision, and configure DNS and trusted HTTPS before opening the CRM to the internet. The Symfony Local Web Server shown in Oro’s Docker guidance is for development, not production.

Start with the release, edition and deployment model
OroCRM requirements are release-specific. First select the exact OroCRM version and whether you are deploying Community or Enterprise edition. Use that release’s documentation and the compose file shipped with it. Do not copy package versions from Oro’s old 4.2 guide: Oro marks that guide as no longer maintained, and its CentOS, PHP and database examples are not a current production specification.
You have two practical deployment patterns:

Docker is not automatically a production architecture: the Symfony Local Web Server in the Docker and Symfony guide is explicitly not intended for production. In either model, put a production-grade Nginx or Apache web server in front of PHP-FPM and terminate HTTPS there.

Minimum Linux VPS requirements
Operating system and storage
Oro lists RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian and Oracle Linux as recommended Linux distributions for production. Select a distribution version supported by your chosen Oro release, and keep it patched through the distribution’s normal security-update process.
Oro’s current system requirements describe a typical single-server setup as a minimum of 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and a fast hard drive, with SSD recommended. This is a starting point rather than a capacity guarantee. Imports, integrations, concurrent users, large catalogs, queue workers and search indexing all increase CPU, memory and disk pressure. SSD IOPS matter for PostgreSQL, cache files, logs and uploaded documents, so avoid slow network or spinning storage for the database volume.

Web server and PHP
Apache or Nginx at a current mainline or stable release is compatible. PHP must be at least 8.5, and the command-line PHP binary must use the same version as PHP-FPM. A mismatch can make Composer or Oro console commands pass while web requests fail, or produce different extension and memory-limit behavior.
Set date.timezone to the business location used by the installation and set memory_limit to at least 1 GB. Oro’s requirements also call for detect_unicode to be disabled; modern PHP releases may no longer expose that directive, so do not add an invalid setting if your PHP build has removed it. Verify the effective values in both the CLI configuration and the FPM pool configuration, not only in a development php.ini.
Required PHP extensions
Install every extension required by the release before running Composer or the installer:
ctype,curl,fileinfo,gd,intl,json,mbstring,sodium,openssl,pgsql,pcre,simplexml,tokenizer,xmlandzip.- Application integrations also require
imap,soap,bcmathandldap. MongoDBversion 2.0 or newer is optional forOroGridFSConfigBundle.
Check extensions with the PHP binary that will execute Composer and the Oro console. Then check the FPM binary separately; an extension enabled only for CLI is not available to browser requests.
Database, process control and asset tooling
Use PostgreSQL 17.6 or newer. For Enterprise edition, Oro also states that Enterprise PostgreSQL or EnterpriseDB 18.3 or newer is supported. Do not substitute MySQL based on an older tutorial.

Install Supervisor or an equivalent process controller for workers and scheduled background processes. Oro’s asset pipeline requires Node.js 24.11.0 or newer but below 25, and PNPM 10.7.0 or newer. Pin those versions rather than accepting whatever a distribution repository happens to provide.
Optional services
- Redis 8.4 or newer can improve caching. Redis is also part of the Enterprise compose service footprint.

Community and Enterprise service footprints
The edition changes how many services your VPS must run and monitor.

Redis being optional in the general requirements does not mean it can be removed from an Enterprise compose file without checking that release’s service dependencies. Treat the compose file and Enterprise documentation as the authority for the selected version.
Prepare the VPS safely
- Create a non-root administrative account. Give it sudo access for installation and updates. Keep direct root login disabled where your hosting platform permits, and use SSH keys rather than sharing a password.
- Apply operating-system security updates. Reboot when the kernel or core libraries require it, then confirm that the selected PHP, PostgreSQL and web-server repositories provide the versions required by Oro.
- Configure a restrictive firewall. Expose SSH only to trusted networks where possible, and expose HTTP and HTTPS publicly only when you are ready to issue a certificate. Keep PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ and Elasticsearch off the public interface.
- Allocate SSD-backed storage. Leave room for PostgreSQL growth, uploaded files, generated documents, logs, container layers and database backups. A 2-core/2-GB VPS is the documented starting point, not a promise that all Enterprise services fit comfortably.
- Decide the hostname and backup destination. Choose the final CRM hostname before installation so the application URL, certificate and outbound links are consistent. Store backups outside the VPS or on a separately protected volume.
- Separate installation and runtime identities. Use the administrative account for Composer, schema migrations and release updates. Run the web server, PHP-FPM and workers as a restricted runtime user that owns only the files it must write.
Install OroCRM with the release Docker Compose workflow
Use this path when you want the service definitions supplied with the release and are comfortable operating containers and persistent volumes.
1. Obtain the exact application source and compose file
Download or check out the OroCRM source for the selected release and use its accompanying compose configuration. Confirm the edition-specific services before starting; Community and Enterprise do not necessarily require the same containers. Keep the source, compose file and environment secrets under controlled access.
2. Start the defined services
From the directory containing the release’s compose file, start the stack:
docker compose up -dReview container status and logs before attempting the installer. A container marked running can still be failing health checks or unable to connect to PostgreSQL.

3. Install PHP dependencies
Run Composer through the Symfony CLI used by Oro’s guide:
symfony composer install -nRun it as the administrative user, then ensure the runtime user can read the application and write only the configured cache, logs, uploads and other writable directories.
4. Run the Oro installer with real values
Oro’s documented example is:
symfony console oro:install -vvv --sample-data=y --application-url=https://127.0.0.1:8000 --user-name=admin --user-email=admin@example.com --user-firstname=John --user-lastname=Doe --user-password=admin --organization-name=Oro --timeout=0 --env=prod -nThat command is an example only. Replace the loopback URL with the final HTTPS hostname, choose whether sample data is appropriate, and generate a unique strong administrator password. Never expose the example password or leave sample credentials in shell history, documentation or a shared password manager. If your release uses different installer options, follow that release’s command reference rather than copying this line unchanged.
5. Add a production web front end
Do not publish the Symfony Local Web Server. Configure Nginx or Apache to serve Oro’s public document root and forward PHP requests to the matching PHP-FPM pool. The web server should be the public TLS endpoint; container ports for PostgreSQL, queues, caches and search should remain private. Set the application URL to the public HTTPS hostname after the certificate is active.
Build a native Nginx and PHP-FPM installation
A native stack is useful when your team already manages Linux services, security policies and host-level monitoring. The older Community Edition environment guide illustrates the shape of this deployment, but its obsolete package versions must be replaced with the current release requirements.
1. Install the pinned runtime
Install a supported Linux distribution, Nginx or Apache, PHP 8.5 or newer, PHP-FPM, all required extensions, PostgreSQL 17.6 or newer, Node.js 24.11.0 through below 25, PNPM 10.7.0 or newer and Supervisor. Keep the CLI and FPM PHP versions identical. Enable the PHP-FPM service at boot only after its pool, socket permissions and resource limits are correct.
2. Configure PHP consistently
Set the timezone and at least a 1 GB memory limit in the configuration actually loaded by FPM and CLI. Confirm values with the CLI’s configuration output and a temporary, access-controlled FPM diagnostic rather than assuming both SAPIs read the same file. Remove the diagnostic immediately after verification.

3. Configure the web server document root
Point the virtual host’s document root at Oro’s public directory, not the project root. Forward only PHP scripts through the FPM socket or TCP endpoint, deny access to environment files, dependency metadata, logs and private uploads, and pass the original HTTPS scheme to the application. Enable the release’s recommended front-controller rewrite rules and upload limits before importing data.
4. Initialize PostgreSQL and the application
Create a dedicated PostgreSQL database and credential with only the privileges Oro needs. Keep the database listener on localhost or a private network unless a separate database host is required. Run Composer and the Oro installer as the administrative user, then assign ownership of runtime-writable directories to the restricted application user.
5. Register workers with Supervisor
Define Supervisor programs for Oro’s workers and scheduled processes using the command and environment expected by your release. Configure automatic restart, a controlled number of processes and separate log files. Test a restart and confirm that jobs continue after a host reboot; a successful web login does not prove that asynchronous email, imports or indexing are running.
Configure DNS and HTTPS before public access
- Create an A record for the CRM hostname pointing to the VPS public IPv4 address. Add an AAAA record only when IPv6 is configured and firewalled correctly.
- Wait for the record to resolve from outside the VPS. Remote access to a production Oro site requires the domain to point to the server.
- Install a trusted TLS certificate for the exact hostname and configure Nginx or Apache to serve it.
- Redirect HTTP to HTTPS and ensure the proxy forwards the secure scheme so Oro generates HTTPS links, callbacks and cookies.
- Set Oro’s application URL to the final HTTPS address, then test login, password-reset links, email links, file downloads and any integration callback URLs.
Oro’s Community Edition guidance strongly recommends HTTPS for production public websites. Do not make the CRM publicly reachable while it still uses the loopback installer URL, a self-signed certificate or default credentials.

PostgreSQL, PHP-FPM, Nginx and Supervisor should be monitored as separate failure domains. For Enterprise, verify Elasticsearch indexing, RabbitMQ delivery and Redis connectivity in addition to web and database health. Bind internal services to private interfaces, restrict firewall rules to the application hosts that need them, and protect management ports from the public internet.
Watch RAM and swap, PostgreSQL disk growth, queue depth, search-index errors, failed Supervisor restarts, PHP-FPM saturation and filesystem inode usage. A VPS can have enough nominal disk capacity but still fail when logs, uploaded files or container layers consume the volume.

Back up data that is not recreated by deployment
- Take consistent PostgreSQL backups and verify that they can be restored to an isolated environment.
- Back up uploaded files, generated documents and any persistent container volumes.
- Protect environment files, encryption keys and credentials separately from public application files.
- Keep encrypted copies away from the VPS and define a retention period that matches your business requirements.
Test a complete restore before importing CRM data or performing an upgrade. A backup job that has never been restored is only an assumption.

Use least-privilege ownership
The administrative account should perform releases, Composer operations and database migrations. The runtime account should run PHP-FPM and workers and should not have unrestricted sudo access. Correct ownership after an update; otherwise the next cache clear, upload or queue job can fail with a permission error.
Plan maintenance windows
Record the Oro release, PHP and extension versions, Node.js and PNPM versions, database version, compose image digests or package sources, and enabled services. Before changing any of them, take backups, test the upgrade on a staging copy and review the release’s migration and licensing requirements. The exact entitlement and license terms are not established by the public requirements pages, so confirm them with Oro before deploying Enterprise.
Capacity planning beyond the baseline

Oro explicitly says sizing depends on data size, active users and integrations. Treat observed CPU, memory, I/O and queue metrics as the basis for resizing rather than assuming that the initial 2-core/2-GB shape remains adequate.
Troubleshoot common first-install failures
The installer reports missing extensions
Check the extension list against the PHP CLI and FPM environments separately. Install the missing module for the exact PHP version, restart PHP-FPM and rerun the check. An extension enabled only in CLI will not satisfy a browser request.
Composer works but the site returns a 502
Confirm that Nginx or Apache points to the correct PHP-FPM socket or port, that the service is running, and that both use the same PHP version. Review FPM and web-server logs for permission, timeout and memory errors.

Use the PostgreSQL service name and credentials defined by the selected compose file, not 127.0.0.1 from inside another container. Check health status, persistent-volume permissions and whether the database has completed initialization.
Assets or styles are missing
Verify Node.js is within 24.11.0 through below 25 and PNPM is at least 10.7.0. Re-run the release’s asset-build procedure, confirm that the web server serves the generated public assets, and inspect browser and web-server logs for incorrect document-root or cache paths.
Background jobs never finish
Check Supervisor status and worker logs, then inspect RabbitMQ and Redis connectivity for Enterprise services. Confirm that the runtime user can write required cache and log directories and that the firewall does not block private service ports.
HTTPS redirects loop or links use HTTP
Ensure the TLS terminator forwards the original secure scheme, the application URL uses the HTTPS hostname, and only the intended HTTP-to-HTTPS redirect is active. Verify DNS A and AAAA records do not send clients to an unconfigured address.

- Release-specific upgrade and licensing plan documented before production data is imported.
