How do you select all files in a Finder window?
Click the Finder window to make it active, then press Command-A. This selects the items in that window, not every file stored anywhere on the Mac. Apple’s guide to selecting items on your Mac describes this shortcut and the other selection gestures.
Can you select files by dragging?
Yes. In Finder’s Icon view, press and hold the mouse or trackpad button near the first item, then drag across the items you want to select. Release when they are included. Apple identifies dragging as a useful approach in Icon view; the other methods above are more precise when items are tightly grouped or you need to select a specific range.
