Amazon does not keep one universal “interests” list with a single delete button. Your visible browsing history, recommendation inputs, About You preferences, interest-based advertising choices, and device advertising settings are separate controls.
For a US shopping account, start with About You, Your Browsing History, and Improve Your Recommendations. Use Amazon Ad Preferences for advertising, and adjust Alexa, Fire TV, Fire tablet, or Kindle settings separately when applicable.
Which Amazon control matches what you want to remove?
Choose the control based on the result you want. Amazon says it uses information such as browsing activity, purchases, and searches to personalize services and advertising, but the controls below affect different systems.

Start with the right account, country, and profile
These settings are account- and service-specific. Sign in to the Amazon storefront where you shop, then check which household or shopping profile is active. The About You route asks you to select a profile when more than one is available, and a change made while viewing one profile may not describe another person’s experience.

Advertising controls also depend on country. Amazon’s advertising-preference page asks you to select a country before showing the applicable route. A control that appears on the US site may have a different label or legal scope elsewhere. If a menu is missing, search the signed-in account for the exact control name rather than assuming that a different setting performs the same job.
See and edit the preferences Amazon exposes in About You
Amazon describes About You as a place to view and edit shopping-personalization preferences. It is available on desktop, mobile web, and the Amazon Shopping app. Amazon does not describe it as a complete list of every inferred interest, so treat it as an editable preference view rather than a full data export.
Desktop route
- Sign in to Amazon.
- Hover over the name above Account & Lists.
- Click your name or Who’s shopping?.
- Select the relevant profile if Amazon asks you to choose one.
- Choose About You.
Mobile web or Shopping app route
- Open the Me tab.
- Tap your name.
- Tap About You.
Review the categories shown and edit the preferences you no longer want associated with your shopping experience. The page is best understood as a current control panel: it shows preferences Amazon has chosen to expose for editing, not necessarily every category it can infer from activity.
If the labels differ, search your signed-in account for “About You.” Amazon changes menus by storefront, account type, and app version. A missing About You link does not prove that no personalization exists; it may mean that the current storefront presents the control elsewhere.
Stop a product from influencing recommendations
Amazon’s US Privacy Notice identifies Improve Your Recommendations as the control for recommendation inputs. It also describes an item-level switch labeled “Use this item for recommendations.” Turning that switch off excludes the selected item from recommendation use through that control.
- Sign in to the Amazon storefront where you shop.
- Open Improve Your Recommendations from your account settings. If you cannot find it, use Amazon’s account search for that exact name.
- Locate the product you do not want used for recommendations.
- Uncheck Use this item for recommendations on the right side of the item page.
- Repeat for other products that should not contribute through this setting.
This is narrower than deleting your browsing history. It addresses recommendation use for the item; it does not claim to erase an order, a review, an account record, or every other signal Amazon may use. If a product was purchased, removing its recommendation input does not turn the purchase into an anonymous or deleted order.
Use this control when the problem is a theme in “Recommended for you,” “Inspired by your browsing,” or similar store suggestions. Removing an item from the visible history may make it disappear from one list while leaving recommendation inputs unchanged, so use both controls when you want to address both results.
Remove viewed products from Your Browsing History
Browsing History is the practical choice when you want products to disappear from the list of items you recently viewed. It is a display and history control, not an order-history deletion tool.

Remove one item
- Open Your Browsing History while signed in.
- Find the product.
- Select Remove from view beneath that item.
Clear the displayed list
- Open Your Browsing History.
- Choose Manage history.
- Select Remove all items from view.
- Confirm if Amazon presents a confirmation prompt.
Amazon Staff describes these actions as removing items from the displayed browsing-history list. Clearing that list is not proof that Amazon erased an order record or every internal personalization input. If recommendations remain similar afterward, use Improve Your Recommendations and About You as separate steps.
Removing one item is useful when you want to preserve the rest of the list. The all-items option is more convenient for a broad cleanup, but it also removes the other viewed products currently shown there. Neither option is described as deleting purchases, reviews, returns, or account records.
Manage interest-based advertising for your country
Advertising settings are separate from store recommendations. Amazon Ads’ preference page first asks you to choose a country, because available controls and privacy rules vary by region.

General route
- Open Amazon’s Advertising Preferences page.
- Select your country or region.
- Follow the available Amazon Ad Preferences controls for that storefront.
Changing an advertising preference does not disable product recommendations, remove browsing history, or guarantee that you will see no ads. It changes the applicable interest-based advertising choice. Non-interest-based ads may still appear.
EU and UK options
Amazon’s EU/UK advertising and privacy information describes three separate places that may be relevant: Amazon Ad Preferences, YourOnlineChoices, and Cookie Preferences. Use the option that matches whether you are changing Amazon’s advertising choice, an industry-wide choice mechanism, or browser-cookie consent. These choices should not be treated as interchangeable with recommendation controls.
Brazil
Amazon identifies a country-specific Amazon Ad Preferences page for Brazil. Select Brazil in the country selector or use the Brazil-specific route shown by Amazon, then review the choices presented for that region.
Because the page is country-aware, check the selected country before concluding that a setting is unavailable. A change for one storefront or region does not establish that the same preference has been changed on every Amazon service or in another country.

Alexa has its own advertising settings. Amazon distinguishes third-party skill or content-provider advertising controls from Amazon-delivered Alexa interest-based advertising.

Third-party skill preferences and the Alexa Advertising ID
- Open the Alexa app.
- Go to Alexa Privacy.
- Choose Manage Skill Permissions and Ad Preferences.
- Review the available third-party ad choices and reset the Alexa Advertising ID if that option is shown.
The advertising ID control is not the same as deleting store browsing history. It addresses the identifier and permissions exposed in the Alexa privacy area, while the store controls address shopping activity and recommendation inputs.
Amazon-delivered Alexa interest-based ads
- In the Alexa app, open Alexa Privacy.
- Choose Manage Your Alexa Data.
- Review the control for Amazon-delivered Alexa interest-based ads and select the preference you want.
Amazon says opting out of Amazon-delivered interest-based ads on Alexa can still leave non-interest-based Amazon ads and personalized recommendations. It also does not apply to ads in other Amazon services, including Amazon Music or Fire TV.
Hide an ad on an Echo Show
On an Echo Show, Amazon’s help instructions use the Alexa app path More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data. Amazon also documents an option to hide a particular ad for 30 days. That temporary hide action is different from changing a long-term advertising preference. Hiding one ad should therefore not be presented as a permanent opt-out or a deletion of the data used to select ads.

Supported devices have a separate interest-based advertising switch. Amazon’s device privacy instructions use this route on many models:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Preferences.
- Open Privacy Settings.
- Select Interest-based Ads.
- Change the setting as desired.
For certain Kindle models, Amazon gives an account route through amazon.com/mycd, followed by Privacy Settings and Amazon Devices Privacy. Menus vary by model and software version, so check the device’s current labels if this path is different.
This device setting concerns advertising on the supported device. It does not clear your Amazon browsing history or remove a product from recommendation inputs. If you use several devices, check each device or device category covered by Amazon’s settings; a change shown on one device should not be assumed to alter Alexa, store recommendations, or another device automatically.
What Amazon can and cannot show you about “interests”
Amazon’s privacy materials say customers can access information such as recommendations and recently viewed products and can manage recommendation and browsing-history controls. Amazon Ads describes interest-based advertising signals that may include browsing history, purchase patterns, and search queries, subject to regional privacy rules.

Seeing a product in a recommendation or ad also does not reveal which single signal caused it to appear.

Do not confuse these actions with deleting all personal information
There are four different outcomes:
- Remove from view: edits the visible Browsing History list.
- Exclude from recommendations: turns off recommendation use for an item through Improve Your Recommendations.
- Opt out of interest-based ads: changes an advertising choice for the relevant country, service, or device.
- Request personal-data deletion: asks Amazon to process a broader privacy request where applicable law provides that right.
Amazon’s Privacy Notice directs customers to Data Privacy Queries for access or deletion requests where required by applicable law. Amazon also warns that some services may be limited or unavailable depending on the choices made. A legal deletion request is not the same as clearing the history display or changing ad personalization.
If your goal is a formal privacy request, use the Data Privacy Queries route rather than describing a history-clearing action as full deletion. The notice frames access and deletion rights as conditional on applicable law, so the outcome and available services can depend on where you live and what request you make.
Limit future browsing signals without breaking shopping functions
Amazon’s privacy information has described signing out and blocking browser cookies as a way to browse without linking future browsing history to the account. This is a limited future-browsing measure, not a way to erase history already associated with the account.
Rejecting cookies can prevent essential functions such as sign-in, the cart, or checkout. If you use this approach, expect to restore required cookies when you need normal account and shopping features. It is therefore a trade-off for occasional unaffiliated browsing, not a replacement for the account controls above.
If a product still appears after you remove it
- Check that you removed it from Your Browsing History, not only from a recommendation list.
- Open Improve Your Recommendations and turn off Use this item for recommendations for the product.
- Review About You for an exposed preference related to the category.
- Check whether another household profile is signed in or selected.
- Allow time for pages and recommendations to refresh, then sign out and back in if the old view is cached.
- For ads, verify the country selected in Amazon Ad Preferences and review the relevant Alexa or device setting separately.
- Check whether you are looking at a store recommendation, an advertisement, or a device suggestion; those can be governed by different controls.
Different Amazon services can update on different schedules, so a change in one control does not guarantee an immediate change everywhere. Repeating the same removal in unrelated menus is not necessary if the item is already gone from the control that governs the result you are checking.

For one viewed product, use Your Browsing History > Remove from view. For a complete displayed-history cleanup, use Manage history > Remove all items from view. For one product that keeps shaping store suggestions, also use Improve Your Recommendations and uncheck Use this item for recommendations. For exposed shopping preferences, review About You.
For fewer interest-based ads, use the country-specific Amazon Ad Preferences route. If the ad is on Alexa, inspect Alexa Privacy separately. If it is on Fire TV, a Fire tablet, or a supported Kindle, inspect the device’s own Privacy Settings. These are parallel actions, not steps in one universal deletion workflow.
A practical cleanup sequence
If your goal is to reduce the influence of a subject across Amazon rather than merely hide one viewed product, use this order:

- Open About You and edit the preferences Amazon exposes there.
- Use Improve Your Recommendations to exclude specific products.
- Use Your Browsing History > Manage history > Remove all items from view if you want the displayed history cleared.
- Set the appropriate country-level Amazon Ad Preferences.
- Review Alexa Privacy or device Privacy Settings if Alexa, Fire TV, Fire tablets, or Kindle devices are involved.
- Use Data Privacy Queries only when you need a broader access or deletion request and your applicable law provides that route.
Keep a simple distinction in mind while you work: history controls change what is displayed, recommendation controls change whether selected items are used through that preference, advertising controls change interest-based ad choices, and a Data Privacy Queries request addresses broader personal-information rights where applicable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I delete everything Amazon thinks I am interested in with one button?
No. Amazon separates About You preferences, Browsing History, recommendation inputs, country-specific advertising choices, Alexa controls, and device advertising settings. There is no documented universal interests-delete button.
Does Remove from view delete my Amazon order history?
No. Remove from view edits the displayed Browsing History list. It is not described as deleting orders, reviews, or every personalization signal.

How do I stop one purchase from affecting recommendations?
Open Improve Your Recommendations, locate the item, and uncheck “Use this item for recommendations.” This excludes the item through that recommendation control but does not erase the purchase or other account records.
Why do I still see ads after changing Amazon Ad Preferences?
Ad Preferences concerns the applicable interest-based advertising choice. Non-interest-based ads may remain, and Alexa, Amazon Music, Fire TV, and other services can have separate controls.
Does turning off Alexa interest-based ads stop all Alexa ads?
No. Amazon says non-interest-based Amazon ads and personalized recommendations can still appear. The Alexa choice also does not apply to ads in services such as Amazon Music or Fire TV.
How long does hiding an Echo Show ad last?
Amazon documents hiding a particular Echo Show ad for 30 days. That temporary action is different from changing an ongoing advertising preference.
Where are Fire TV and Kindle interest-based ad settings?
On many supported devices, use Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings > Interest-based Ads. For certain Kindle models, Amazon lists amazon.com/mycd > Privacy Settings > Amazon Devices Privacy. Menus vary by model and software version.
