The secure design is a two-layer deployment: use Samsung Knox Configure to stage the initial profile and user experience on supported Galaxy Enterprise Edition phones, then use your unified endpoint management (UEM) platform with Samsung Knox Service Plugin/OEMConfig for continuing security policies. Knox Configure is not a replacement for a UEM. Eligibility, available controls and enrollment behavior depend on the exact model, country, Android/Knox version, device state, license and UEM integration.
Samsung describes Knox Configure as “a cloud-based solution designed to simplify the setup and customization of Samsung Galaxy smartphones, tablets, and watches.” The service handles profile-based setup and customization, while UEM-delivered Knox policies provide ongoing governance after enrollment. Confirm every variable against Samsung’s current documentation before purchasing or deploying a fleet.
How Knox Configure and a UEM fit together
Think of the deployment as a handoff between two management layers rather than a choice between products.

Knox Configure applies a profile that can establish the first-run experience, device branding, applications, content and restrictions. It is useful when many phones must arrive with the same organization-specific configuration instead of being manually prepared one at a time. The service is cloud-based and works only with selected Galaxy devices in selected countries. Samsung’s current overview and compatibility information are the authority for eligibility: Knox Configure documentation.

UEM plus Knox Service Plugin/OEMConfig: continuing policy
Your UEM remains the system for enrollment records, ownership mode, compliance, certificates, remote actions and lifecycle operations. Samsung Knox Service Plugin (often exposed in a UEM as an OEMConfig integration) makes Samsung-specific controls available in that console. The exact controls depend on the device, Knox version, Android release, ownership mode and UEM support. Samsung lists examples such as Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, APN and Device Care controls in its device-controls documentation.
Why separating the layers matters
- A Knox Configure profile can make a phone look and behave correctly at first boot, but it does not automatically supply every continuing compliance policy.
- A UEM can enforce policies after enrollment, but it cannot assume that every model supports every Knox setting.
- Changing a profile and changing a UEM policy are different operations with different testing and recovery implications.
Use a written ownership model—fully managed device, work-profile device or another mode supported by your UEM—before designing either layer.
Prerequisites to verify before buying or enrolling
Do not infer support merely from the “Enterprise Edition” label. Samsung’s assignment documentation says Enterprise Edition devices carry an “Enterprise Edition” tag in the Knox Configure console; that tag does not establish support in every country or for every model. Validate the following for the exact SKU and deployment region.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Device, software and geography
- Exact Galaxy model and sales region.
- Android release and Knox Platform version installed on the intended build.
- Whether the model appears in Samsung’s current Knox Configure compatibility information.
- Whether the device supports the Knox Service Plugin policies you need.
- Whether the phone will be new, factory-reset, reseller-uploaded, or already in use.
Samsung’s current Knox Configure page should be checked immediately before procurement because supported models and countries can change.
Accounts, licensing and browser access
- A Samsung Knox account with the required administrator permissions.
- An active Knox Configure license. Samsung documents a trial of up to three months for up to 30 devices; those limits and availability are not a permanent guarantee.
- For production, a commercial license obtained through an authorized Knox license reseller.
- A supported desktop browser: Samsung lists current Edge, Firefox or Chrome support.
- Firewall exemptions and outbound connectivity required for secure communication with Samsung services and the UEM.
- An administrative account and license for the organization’s UEM, with Samsung Knox Service Plugin/OEMConfig support.
Keep the license scope and renewal owner in your deployment record. A device that loses its profile assignment cannot continue to receive Knox Configure push updates until another profile is assigned.
Information to collect for a pilot
- One representative phone for each model, software build and country combination.
- The intended UEM ownership mode and enrollment method.
- Required Wi-Fi, cellular APN, Bluetooth, NFC, camera, USB and application rules.
- Help-desk contacts and a recovery procedure for a failed profile, reset or lost phone.
Design the Knox Configure profile
Start with the behavior the user should experience, then select only the settings necessary to produce it. Samsung’s profile guide distinguishes Setup and Dynamic editions and, within those editions, Normal and ProKiosk modes. The available settings vary by edition, so choosing a mode before documenting requirements can create avoidable rework. See Samsung’s profile-creation guide.

Choose an edition and mode deliberately
| Choice | Use it when | Questions to answer first |
|---|---|---|
| Setup edition | The profile is primarily for initial configuration and standard setup. | Which setup steps, agreements, apps and restrictions must be present at first run? |
| Dynamic edition | The device may need a profile-driven experience that can adapt to organizational configuration. | What should change after enrollment, and which updates are handled by the UEM instead? |
| Normal mode | Users need a conventional Galaxy experience with selected controls. | Which user freedoms are required for the job, and which settings must remain fixed? |
| ProKiosk mode | The phone should operate as a tightly limited, task-specific endpoint. | Which apps, screens, settings and exit paths are allowed, and who can recover the device? |
Do not describe ProKiosk as automatically more secure. It can reduce the attack surface for a dedicated task, but an overly restrictive profile can block support, updates or legitimate work.
Build a least-privilege configuration
- In the Knox Configure console, create a profile for the target device type and compatible Knox version.
- Select the edition and mode that match the documented user workflow.
- Define enrollment agreements and consent screens required by your organization and jurisdiction.
- Add only the applications, content and shortcuts needed for the role.
- Set restrictions for connectivity, removable media, settings access and peripheral use only where the business requirement is clear.
- Document every exception, administrator override and recovery path.
- Save the profile, assign it to pilot devices and test before assigning a production population.
A profile is a deployment control, not a substitute for a written security baseline. Keep the baseline versioned so an administrator can explain why each restriction exists.
Select the correct enrollment route
Enrollment depends primarily on device state and sourcing. Samsung’s enrollment documentation describes different paths for new or reset phones and phones already in use.
| Device condition | Typical route | Important behavior |
|---|---|---|
| New or factory-reset phone | Out-of-box experience (OOBE) or QR enrollment | Use the current instructions for the exact Android version. A profile must be assigned before enrollment. |
| Phone already in use | Browser enrollment | Plan for user communication, authentication and the effect of applying a profile to an active device. |
| Device not uploaded by a reseller | QR enrollment is required for Knox Configure enrollment, according to Samsung’s documentation. | The matching QR code automatically assigns its corresponding profile; the user cannot select a different profile through that QR code until the device is unassigned. |
Prepare a new or reset device
- Confirm that the intended profile is assigned to the device in the Knox Configure console.
- Connect the phone to a permitted network during OOBE or display the approved QR enrollment screen.
- Complete the current Samsung enrollment flow for the Android build on the phone.
- Allow the profile to download and apply, then verify the expected apps, restrictions and branding.
- Continue into the UEM enrollment flow if it is not already part of your chosen provisioning path.
Enroll a phone that is already in use
- Back up business data and explain what enrollment will change to the user.
- Provide the approved browser-enrollment link or instructions through a controlled channel.
- Authenticate the user or administrator according to the UEM’s ownership workflow.
- Apply the assigned Knox Configure profile and wait for configuration to complete.
- Confirm that the UEM agent and Knox Service Plugin receive their policies before releasing the phone for work.
Protect QR enrollment material
Samsung warns that enabling QR enrollment for devices not uploaded by a reseller allows anyone who obtains the QR code to enroll a device. Treat the code like a deployment credential: restrict console permissions, distribute it only to the staging team, avoid placing it in public tickets or screenshots, rotate or disable it when the rollout ends, and test how a lost or exposed code is revoked. QR enrollment binds the device to its corresponding profile until that assignment is removed.
Updating a profile on Android 13 and later
Samsung documents this device-side path for Android 13 and later: Settings > Advanced features > Configuration service > Profile information > Update. Menus can vary with the deployed software version, so verify the current path on a pilot phone before publishing help-desk instructions.
Configure ongoing Knox policies in the UEM
After the device is enrolled, open the UEM’s Samsung Knox Service Plugin/OEMConfig integration and configure only policies supported by the target model and ownership mode. Samsung’s device-control reference lists policy families including:

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Wi-Fi configuration and restrictions.
- NFC behavior.
- Bluetooth behavior.
- Cellular APN settings.
- Device Care controls.
These examples are not a promise of universal support. Samsung specifically documents a Device Care requirement of Knox 3.14 or later. Check the prerequisite shown for each policy, the phone’s Knox version and the UEM’s own support matrix before enabling it: Samsung Knox device controls.
Use ownership mode as a policy gate
Some controls are appropriate only for a fully managed device, while a work-profile deployment may intentionally leave personal functions outside administrative control. Record the ownership mode in the policy design and test both administrator and end-user views. If a policy is unavailable, distinguish among three causes: the phone does not support it, the Knox version is too old, or the UEM integration does not expose it.
Consider feature-specific enrollment security
Samsung’s 2026 Knox Mobile Security white paper discusses capabilities such as Device Health Attestation, DualDAR, certificates and advanced device lock. Treat these as separate, prerequisite-dependent features—not as automatic properties of every Enterprise Edition phone. Confirm licensing, device support, ownership mode and UEM implementation before making one a compliance requirement. The white paper is available at Samsung Knox Mobile Security White Paper.

Assign, stage and verify before fleet rollout
Assignment is the point at which a profile becomes actionable for a device. Samsung’s assignment guidance explains how to associate a profile with a device and how Enterprise Edition devices are identified in the console: Assign a profile to a device.
- Import or identify the intended devices using the method appropriate to their source.
- Assign the approved profile to the correct device group; check model, country and ownership filters.
- Enroll a representative sample for every hardware and software combination.
- Verify profile status, device details and available logs in the Knox Configure console.
- In the UEM, confirm that the device appears with the intended ownership mode and receives Knox Service Plugin policies.
- Test a normal user task, a blocked task, a policy change and a reboot or network interruption.
- Record the expected result and the recovery action for each test.
Do not expand the assignment until the pilot proves that the first-run profile and continuing UEM policies do not conflict. For example, a Knox Configure restriction that hides a settings page can make a UEM enrollment step impossible if the sequence is wrong.
Operate changes, reassignment and recovery safely
Profile changes
Separate cosmetic changes from security changes. Test a revised profile on a small group, note whether a reboot or user action is required, and schedule changes when devices can reach Samsung services. Keep the prior profile definition and a rollback assignment available until the new version is confirmed.

Unassignment and reassignment
Samsung states that an unassigned device cannot be managed or receive push updates until another profile assignment is made. Before unassigning a production phone, assign the replacement profile or schedule the operation so the gap is brief and observable. Verify the resulting status in both consoles.

- Use the UEM’s documented lost-device or lock procedure immediately.
- Revoke certificates, tokens and accounts according to the organization’s incident plan.
- Preserve the device record and relevant logs for investigation.
- Do not rely on a Knox Configure profile alone to provide remote incident response.
Reset and redeployment
Define whether a factory reset should return the phone to OOBE, reapply the same profile, or move it to a different organizational group. Test the complete reset-and-reenroll sequence on each supported model. A reset that removes a UEM agent but leaves a profile assignment can produce a confusing half-managed state unless the recovery procedure addresses both systems.

| Symptom | Likely checks | Corrective action |
|---|---|---|
| Phone cannot enroll | Model, country, Knox version, license, profile assignment and network access. | Confirm eligibility in Samsung’s current documentation, assign a compatible profile and allow required firewall traffic. |
| QR code enrolls the wrong experience | Whether the code is tied to a different profile or device group. | Disable distribution of the incorrect code, unassign the device if appropriate, then use the approved QR/profile pairing. |
| User cannot choose another profile | QR enrollment binding behavior. | Unassign the device in Knox Configure before attempting a different profile. |
| UEM policy is missing | Knox version, ownership mode, UEM plugin version and policy prerequisites. | Check the policy-specific support notes; Device Care, for example, requires Knox 3.14 or later. |
| Profile update never arrives | Device assignment, license state, connectivity and service reachability. | Restore a valid assignment, verify licensing and network access, then use the device-side update path where supported. |
| Enrollment works but the phone is unusable | Conflicting restrictions, blocked settings or missing recovery permissions. | Return to the pilot profile, relax the conflicting control, and retest the enrollment sequence before broad rollout. |
A practical rollout checklist
- Model, region, Android build and Knox version are recorded for every device family.
- Knox Configure compatibility and UEM Knox Service Plugin support are confirmed.
- Samsung Knox account, license, browser and firewall prerequisites are complete.
- Edition, mode, user freedoms, restrictions and recovery paths are documented.
- Profile assignments are correct before any device is enrolled.
- QR codes are access-controlled and treated as sensitive deployment material.
- New/reset and already-in-use enrollment paths have each been tested.
- UEM policies are validated on representative devices, including prerequisites such as Knox 3.14 for Device Care.
- Logs, status views, rollback assignments and help-desk procedures are ready.
- Lost-device, reset, off-network and reassignment scenarios have been rehearsed.
What this architecture can and cannot guarantee
Knox Configure can standardize the initial state of eligible Galaxy phones; a UEM can continue managing supported Knox policies and lifecycle actions. Neither statement means every Galaxy Enterprise Edition model, country, Android release or UEM exposes the same controls. Samsung’s documentation is explicit that support is conditional, and the organization must validate the exact combination before deployment. A secure rollout is therefore a verified configuration chain: eligible hardware, an assigned profile, controlled enrollment, supported UEM policies, and tested recovery.
Frequently asked questions
Does Knox Configure replace a UEM?
No. Knox Configure handles profile-based setup and customization. The UEM, using Knox Service Plugin/OEMConfig where supported, handles continuing policy, compliance and lifecycle management.
Can any Samsung Galaxy Enterprise Edition phone use Knox Configure?
No. Support depends on the exact Galaxy model, Knox version and country. The Enterprise Edition tag in the console is not a universal geography or model guarantee.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhich enrollment method should be used for a phone already assigned to an employee?
Samsung documents browser enrollment for an in-use phone. New or reset phones can use OOBE or QR enrollment, subject to the profile assignment and the exact Android version.

What happens if a Knox Configure device is unassigned?
Samsung states that an unassigned device cannot be managed or receive push updates until another profile assignment is made.
Is a Knox Configure QR code safe to share in a general help-desk channel?
No. For devices not uploaded by a reseller, anyone who obtains the QR code may be able to enroll a device. Restrict access, distribute it through a controlled process and disable or rotate it when no longer needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Knox Configure and UEM policies conflict?
Yes. A profile can hide settings or restrict actions required by a later UEM enrollment step. Test the sequence on representative devices and keep a rollback profile.
Where can an administrator check a profile update on Android 13 or later?
Samsung documents Settings > Advanced features > Configuration service > Profile information > Update, although the path should be confirmed on the deployed software build.
Does every UEM expose all Samsung Knox controls?
No. Availability depends on the UEM integration, device model, Knox version, Android release and ownership mode. Check the policy-specific support notes.
