Binance.US requires every customer to use at least one two-factor authentication (2FA) method. New accounts start with SMS 2FA, while existing customers can use SMS Authentication, Google Authenticator, or a compatible six-digit TOTP app from the account’s Security page. Google Authenticator is the recommended option, and adding a second method gives you a fallback if one device or channel becomes unavailable.
What 2FA does on Binance.US
Two-factor authentication adds a verification step after your password. Binance.US describes it as “a second layer of security beyond your password.” A sign-in, withdrawal, security change, or other sensitive action may require a code from your registered phone number or authenticator app, depending on the methods enabled and the prompt shown by the current interface.
At least one 2FA method is mandatory. During registration, Binance.US requires SMS 2FA. After the account is created, you can change that method or add another one from Security. The two documented choices are SMS Authentication and Google Authenticator.

Choose the right 2FA method

Binance.US does not publish a Binance.US-specific percentage or user-count statistic comparing the compromise rates of SMS and authenticator apps. The practical choice is therefore based on access and recovery: an authenticator app avoids dependence on text delivery, while SMS can be easier to recover if you retain the same number.

Before enabling 2FA
- Use the official sign-in address and check the browser address bar carefully. The address should begin with https://www.binance.us/login. Phishing pages often use a slightly different domain or spelling.
- Have your current Binance.US password available. Never give that password or a 2FA code to a person claiming to represent Binance.US; representatives will not ask for either.
- Keep the phone you will use for SMS or the authenticator app available throughout setup. The interface may request a password, SMS code, email code, authenticator code, or identity confirmation.
- If you plan to use an authenticator app, install it before opening the setup screen and make sure its date, time, and time zone can be set automatically.
- Decide where you will store the 16-digit authenticator key. It is the recovery secret for the TOTP entry, so store it offline or in a password manager that you trust. Do not place it in a public note, screenshot folder, or shared chat.
Enable 2FA on an existing Binance.US account
- Go to https://www.binance.us/login and sign in. Confirm the domain before entering credentials.
- Open your account’s Security page.
- Find the 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) controls. The page presents SMS Authentication and Google Authenticator setup options.
- Choose the method you want to add or change, then follow the prompts shown by the current interface. Depending on the change, Binance.US may request your password, a text code, an email code, an authenticator code, or identity information.
- For SMS Authentication, confirm the phone number, request the text message, and enter the received code before it expires. If the interface asks for an existing 2FA code as an additional check, complete that prompt as well.
- For Google Authenticator, display the QR code or 16-digit binding key, add the Binance.US account in your authenticator app, and enter the current six-digit code. Finish any email, SMS, password, or identity confirmation requested on screen.
- Return to the 2FA controls and verify that the method is shown as enabled. If practical, add the second method rather than leaving the account dependent on one phone, number, or app.
The labels and order of verification prompts can change. Do not skip a prompt or substitute a code from another account: use the method named in the current Binance.US screen.
Set up Google Authenticator or another compatible app
Google Authenticator setup
Binance.US recommends Google Authenticator. Select Google Authenticator under the 2FA controls, then use the app to scan the displayed QR code or enter the displayed 16-digit key manually. The app should create a Binance.US entry with a rotating six-digit TOTP code. Enter the currently displayed code in Binance.US and complete the other verification prompts.
Save the 16-digit key before finishing. If the phone is lost and you do not have another enrolled method, that key may be the only way to recreate the TOTP entry without going through an account reset. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it can generate the same codes.

Other apps that can work
Binance.US says most authenticator apps that generate six-digit TOTP codes and use a 16-digit key can work when the Google Authenticator option is selected. Its examples include Authy, Okta Verify, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo, and 2FAS. This does not establish that every authenticator application, passkey product, or hardware security key is supported. If an app cannot accept the Binance.US key or produce a six-digit TOTP code, use Google Authenticator or another app with those documented capabilities.
Adding a second method
After one method is active, return to Security and use the 2FA controls to add the other available method. A second method is useful when a phone is lost, a number cannot receive texts, or an authenticator app is temporarily unavailable. Keep both recovery paths protected; an unused method that you cannot access is not a practical fallback.
Secure the account beyond 2FA
Use the exact domain every time
Bookmark the verified login address and inspect the address bar before entering a password or code. A page that imitates the Binance.US design is still a phishing page if its domain is wrong. Never follow an unexpected message’s sign-in link without checking it.

Protect the password and verification codes
Use a strong, private password that is not reused on another service. Binance.US representatives will not ask for your password or 2FA code. Do not read a code to a caller, paste it into a chat, or enter it on a page reached from an unverified message.
Create an anti-phishing code
In the account’s Security settings, create an anti-phishing code if the control is available. Legitimate Binance.US notification emails can then be distinguished by the code you chose. A message that omits it or shows a different value should be treated as suspicious; do not use its links or reply with account information.
Review devices and withdrawal controls
Review device management in Security and remove sessions or devices you no longer recognize or use. Consider enabling withdrawal-address whitelisting so withdrawals are limited to addresses you have deliberately approved. These controls do not replace 2FA, but they reduce the damage a stolen session or password could cause.

Disable the account if activity looks suspicious
If you see an unexpected login, security change, or withdrawal, use the account-disable control and contact Binance.US through its official support channels. Do not wait for another code or attempt to negotiate with a person who contacted you first.

An authenticator code is valid only for a short time and depends on the phone’s clock. Work through these checks before resetting 2FA:
- Open the phone’s date and time settings and enable automatic date, automatic time, and automatic time zone. A clock that is even slightly out of sync can make every six-digit code fail.
- Close and restart the authenticator app, then restart the phone. Open the Binance.US entry again and enter the newly displayed code rather than one that is about to expire.
- Check that you selected the Binance.US account entry, not a similarly named entry for another service. If you entered the key manually, compare the saved 16-digit key with the one issued during Binance.US setup.
- Type the six digits directly into the Binance.US prompt. Do not add spaces, punctuation, or an older code.
- Try the next code after the timer advances. Repeatedly submitting an expired code can create additional failed attempts without solving the clock problem.
- If the app still fails after automatic time settings and a restart, stop guessing. Use Authenticator Issues or the documented Binance.US reset flow. The reset requires email verification and identity confirmation.
Do not delete the authenticator entry before you have confirmed that another 2FA method works or that you have the original 16-digit key. Deleting it can remove your remaining working code without creating a recovery path.

Fix SMS 2FA codes that do not arrive
- Check cellular signal and confirm that the phone is connected as expected. A Wi-Fi connection alone does not guarantee that SMS will arrive.
- Toggle airplane mode off and on, then request one new code. Avoid making many requests in succession, because delayed messages can arrive after a later request.
- Confirm that the phone number shown in Binance.US is correct and still under your control.
- Check spam, blocked-number, and unknown-sender filters in the phone’s messaging app. Carrier filtering can hide automated messages.
- Clear the browser cache or try the current Binance.US interface in another supported browser if the request control is stuck.
- Check whether Binance.US services are supported in your region. Availability and message delivery can differ by location.
- Make sure the phone number is not already linked to another Binance.US account. A number associated with another account can prevent code delivery.
- If the message still does not arrive, use the account’s available recovery or support flow rather than disabling security controls at random.
Reset 2FA after losing a phone or authenticator
If you lose the phone that receives SMS or stores your authenticator, first try the other 2FA method if one is enabled. If no usable method remains, choose Authenticator Issues or the documented reset option presented by Binance.US. The process requires access to the account email and identity confirmation; it is intentionally more involved than simply installing the app again.
- Start the recovery or Authenticator Issues flow from the Binance.US sign-in or verification screen.
- Complete the email verification request sent by Binance.US.
- Submit the requested identity confirmation. Use information that matches the account and follow the current instructions exactly.
- Wait for the review decision. Binance.US states that a 2FA-reset request typically takes 48–72 hours for review.
- After approval, enroll a new 2FA method from Security and add a second method if possible.
A normal 2FA reset creates a 48-hour withdrawal hold, according to Binance.US Help Center guidance current in 2026. Trading, deposits, and other account functions remain available during that hold, but withdrawals cannot be completed until it ends. This hold is separate from the restriction that can follow a password change: Binance.US’s current Security settings information states that changing the password can impose a 24-hour withdrawal restriction.
Do not pay anyone who promises to bypass the hold or asks for your password, 2FA code, remote access, or identity documents outside the official Binance.US process. A delay is an account-protection control, not evidence that a third party can legitimately override it.
Plan recovery before you need it
- Keep the registered email account secured with its own strong password and 2FA.
- Store the authenticator’s 16-digit key in a protected, recoverable location rather than only on the phone.
- Maintain access to the registered phone number, and tell your carrier to protect the number against unauthorized transfers where that service is available.
- Enable a second Binance.US 2FA method when you can protect both methods safely.
- Review devices, withdrawal addresses, and anti-phishing settings periodically from Security.
- Know that a reset may mean identity verification, a 48–72-hour review, and a 48-hour withdrawal hold; plan accordingly before traveling or replacing a phone.
Bottom line
Enable 2FA from Binance.US Security, use Google Authenticator or another app that supports six-digit TOTP with the Binance.US 16-digit key, and keep SMS as a second method when you can secure the number. Verify the exact login domain, protect your password and recovery key, create an anti-phishing code, review devices and withdrawal addresses, and expect identity verification plus a 48-hour withdrawal hold if you must reset a lost authenticator.
