To search several sites at once, choose the method that matches what you mean: add Google’s site: operator for one site, configure a reusable Google Programmable Search Engine for a selected set of sites, or use a browser extension to launch the same query on multiple separate sites or search engines. The first two keep results within Google; extensions typically open separate result pages so you can compare them.
Choose the right kind of multi-site search

Search one site quickly with Google
Type site:example.com your search terms into Google, replacing example.com with the domain you want. You can also use a URL prefix to narrow results to part of a site. Google’s documentation for the site: operator describes it as a way to restrict results to a domain, URL, or prefix.
For example, site:example.com password reset asks Google for results associated with example.com that relate to “password reset.” This is useful for a fast, focused search, but not for checking every page Google has indexed. Google says site: results may be incomplete and, without a query, may not be ranked.
Build a reusable Google search for selected sites
Google Programmable Search Engine lets you configure a search that includes or excludes sites and URL patterns. It is a better fit than repeatedly typing separate queries when you regularly search the same curated collection. Google’s Programmable Search Engine help documents up to 5,000 URL patterns across no more than 50 distinct domains per engine.

There is an important policy change for new setups: Google says that, as of January 20, 2026, new engines must be configured around designated sites. Existing engines configured to search the entire web can keep that setting until January 1, 2027. Because this policy may change, confirm the current help page before building a workflow that depends on whole-web search.
Run one query across separate sites with a browser extension
If by “search multiple sites” you mean sending the same phrase to several destinations—such as different specialist websites or search engines—a multi-search extension can launch those searches for you. Many open one results tab per destination; some listings advertise split views or synchronized navigation. This saves repeated typing, but it does not necessarily merge, rank, or verify the separate sites’ results.

Examples in the Chrome Web Store illustrate different approaches, not endorsements or independent test results:
- multisearch describes custom websites, split view, saved layouts, and synchronized navigation.
- Simple = Select + Search describes searching selected engines or collections, including a right-click workflow. Its listing says query text is excluded from usage analytics, while also disclosing pseudonymous usage events and engine domains; this is the developer’s disclosure, not an independent privacy audit.
- Search With: Context & Multi-Engine Search describes built-in and custom engines and opening chosen engines in separate tabs. Its listing displays the developer’s claim that no data is collected; treat that as a store disclosure, not independent verification.
- Multi Search Boost: Search Across Sites describes an address-bar shortcut and grouping site links by category. Its listing says it works with sites that support search URLs, so confirm compatibility with the destinations you use.
Store listings and disclosures can change. Before installing an extension, check that it supports your sites or engines, how it opens results, what permissions it requests, who develops it, and its current privacy disclosures and update history.

Which method should you use?
- For an occasional search within one site: use Google with
site:domain. - For a recurring search across a fixed collection: consider a Google Programmable Search Engine, subject to its current site-pattern limits and policy.
- For the same query on several distinct websites or engines: compare browser extensions based on destination support, tab or split-view behavior, and data practices.
These options serve different purposes: Google’s operator and Programmable Search Engine constrain Google results, while an extension can send a query to multiple separate destinations. Choose based on whether you want one set of Google results or separate result pages to compare.
