For a quick scan, open the Camera app, frame the paper, tap Scan, review the capture, and tap Save. Samsung says the resulting image is stored in Gallery. If you need a PDF, attach that image to a Samsung Notes note and export the note as PDF. For several pages in one file, use a multipage workflow such as Microsoft Office mobile’s Actions > Scan to PDF; its menus may differ from the August 2023 instructions.
The exact controls depend on your Galaxy model and software version. The steps below separate the broadly documented Camera method from version-specific settings and the separate multipage PDF process.
Scan one document with the Samsung Camera app
Samsung’s current support instructions describe the Camera app as the simplest starting point for a single document. The process produces an image in Gallery rather than a PDF file.
- Open Camera. Use the regular photo mode and place the entire page inside the viewfinder. Keep the phone parallel to the paper so the edges are easy for the camera to recognize.
- Wait for the document prompt. When the phone recognizes a document, a Scan control appears. Tap it. Samsung says its scan behavior can remove unwanted shadows, hands, and other objects and align rectangular shapes automatically; that behavior can vary by device and capture.
- Check the result. Read the small print, inspect all four corners, and make sure no section is cropped or blurred. If the page is not legible, reposition the phone and scan again rather than keeping a poor original.
- Tap Save. Samsung’s guide says the saved scan is available in the Gallery app. From there you can share the image, rename or organize it, or use it in another app.
Samsung documents this workflow in Scan and edit documents on your Galaxy phone or tablet. It applies to Galaxy phones and tablets that expose the document-scan control, but Samsung does not promise an identical interface on every model or software release.

If “Scan” does not appear
Do not assume that every Galaxy camera has the same switch or menu. First, fill the frame with a flat, rectangular page and hold the phone steady; recognition is what triggers the on-screen control. If it still does not appear, check Camera settings and the help for your model and software version.
Samsung Australia’s One UI 6 feature guide gives one documented route: Camera > Camera settings > Scan documents and text. That page says to enable Auto scan and Remove unwanted objects. Treat this as One UI 6 guidance, not a universal current path. A later One UI release, a carrier variant, or a different Galaxy model may use different labels or place the options elsewhere.
After changing a setting, return to the viewfinder and test with a high-contrast page. If your device has no document option at all, you can still take a normal, carefully aligned photo and save it in Gallery; the automatic scan enhancements will not be available.
Turn a Camera scan into a PDF with Samsung Notes
Samsung Notes can place the Gallery image in a note and export that note as a PDF. This is useful when you need a file that opens as a PDF but have captured one or a small number of pages as images.

- Open Samsung Notes and create a note. Start a new note rather than editing an unrelated one.
- Attach the scan. Choose Attach > Image > Gallery, select the document image, and tap Done. The image is inserted into the note and can be arranged with the note’s other content.
- Export the note. Use the note’s share or save option and choose PDF when prompted. The resulting file contains the note content, including the inserted scan.
Samsung describes attaching images and importing or exporting PDFs in its document-scanning guide. Some Notes functions require the latest version of the app, so update Samsung Notes through your normal Galaxy app-update channel if a command is missing.
For the specific PDF behavior and limits, see Samsung’s Import and export PDFs with Samsung Notes. A PDF exported from Notes is a PDF representation of the note, not a replacement for a dedicated PDF editor.
Scan multiple pages into one PDF
A Camera scan is fundamentally a single image capture. To create one PDF containing several pages, use an app that has a multipage scan workflow. Samsung Business Insights documented the following process in an article published August 1, 2023, using Microsoft Office mobile:
- Open the Office mobile app and choose Actions > Scan to PDF.
- Scan the first page and review it.
- Choose Add New to capture the next page. Repeat for every page.
- Confirm the collection of scans, finish the operation, and share or save the PDF.
The instructions are described in How to scan documents on your Galaxy mobile device. Because that article is from 2023, Office’s current buttons or navigation may have changed. If you do not see Actions, search the current Office app for a scan-to-PDF command or consult its in-app help. Do not confuse this workflow with the Camera app’s ordinary scan, which saves an image to Gallery.

When to choose Notes instead
For a single page, the Camera-to-Gallery route is faster. If you already have several page images, Samsung Notes can collect them in one note and export the note as a PDF, but you must insert the images yourself. An app with an explicit “add page” scan command is generally more convenient when you are standing at a copier or scanning a long packet.
| Need | Recommended path | Output | Version dependence |
|---|---|---|---|
| One page, quickest capture | Camera > Scan > Save | Image in Gallery | Scan control and recognition vary by Galaxy model and software |
| One image presented as a PDF | Camera scan, then Samsung Notes Attach > Image > Gallery and export as PDF | PDF of the note containing the image | Notes layout and export labels can vary; some features need the latest Notes version |
| Several pages in one PDF | Office mobile Actions > Scan to PDF, then Add New for each page | Multipage PDF | Process documented August 1, 2023; current Office menus may differ |
What Samsung Notes can and cannot edit in a PDF
Notes is suitable for adding content around a PDF, not for rewriting the original PDF objects. Samsung explicitly says that PDFs imported into or exported from Samsung Notes cannot be edited as PDF content. You can add text and drawings in Notes, but you cannot use Notes to change the underlying words, images, or layout as a true PDF editor would.
This distinction matters for forms and contracts. If you only need a signature, handwriting, a highlight, or a short annotation, Notes may be sufficient. If you need to replace a date, correct a paragraph, rearrange pages, or edit selectable text inside the original PDF, use an application that specifically supports those PDF operations.
Improve scan readability before you save
- Include the complete page. Leave a small margin around the edges in the viewfinder so automatic alignment does not cut off a line or corner.
- Reduce glare. Move away from direct reflections on glossy paper and keep your hand or the phone’s shadow off the page.
- Hold the phone square. A parallel angle reduces trapezoid distortion and makes small type easier to read.
- Inspect at full size. Zoom into signatures, totals, dates, and fine print before tapping Save or adding another page.
- Retake instead of repairing a bad capture. A second clean scan is usually more useful than trying to compensate for blur or a missing edge later.
Samsung says its document mode can remove shadows and unwanted objects and align rectangular shapes, but those are stated behaviors, not a guarantee that every page will be corrected perfectly. A patterned background, folded paper, or low light can still confuse recognition.

Common problems and fixes
The Scan button never appears
Make the page fill more of the viewfinder, flatten curled corners, and pause briefly so the camera can detect the rectangle. Then check Camera settings and your model’s software-specific help. The One UI 6 route in Samsung Australia’s guide is Camera > Camera settings > Scan documents and text, with Auto scan and Remove unwanted objects; other releases may not use those labels.
The saved file is missing
Open Gallery and look in the camera or recent-items view. The Camera workflow saves an image there according to Samsung’s support guide. If you exported from Notes instead, look in the location selected by Notes’ share or save command; that file is separate from the original Gallery image.
The page is skewed, cropped, or shadowed
Retake it with the phone parallel to the page, better lighting, and no fingers over the edges. Review all corners before saving. Automatic cleanup is device-dependent, so do not rely on it to restore text hidden by a hand or a heavy shadow.
I need several pages but only get separate images
The Camera method does not automatically create a multipage PDF. Use a workflow with an explicit add-page control, such as the Office mobile sequence documented by Samsung Business Insights: Actions > Scan to PDF > Add New. Since that guidance dates to August 2023, verify the current Office interface if the labels differ. Alternatively, insert each image into one Samsung Notes note and export the note as PDF.
Best Value
- Scanner type: Document
- Connectivity technology: USB
- With Auto Scan Mode, the scanner automatically detects what you're scanning
- Digitize documents and images
The PDF opens but I cannot change its original text
That is expected in Samsung Notes. Imported and exported PDFs retain their PDF content; Notes adds text and drawings on top rather than editing the original objects. Use a dedicated PDF-editing app when changing the underlying text or layout is required.
Model and software differences to keep in mind
Samsung’s product material for the Galaxy S26 FE names built-in Document Scan and Multi Scan as features of that specific model. It does not establish that every Galaxy phone or tablet has the same controls, page limits, or behavior. Treat model pages as examples and rely on the menus shown on your own device.
Likewise, a setting documented for One UI 6 should not be treated as a promise about One UI 7, One UI 8, or a tablet edition. When a label is absent, use the current Camera or Notes help for your exact model and software build rather than forcing an older path.

Quick Recap
A practical decision checklist
- Choose Camera > Scan when you need one readable document image quickly.
- Add the image to Samsung Notes and export as PDF when a PDF container is required for one page or a small set of images.
- Choose a dedicated multipage command such as Office mobile > Actions > Scan to PDF when you need to add pages during one scanning session.
- Verify every page at full size before sharing, especially signatures, account numbers, and fine print.
- Expect menu differences across Galaxy models, One UI releases, and app versions; the presence of a feature on one model does not prove it exists on another.
