To transfer a Samsung Note to an SD card, open the note, tap More options (the three vertical dots), choose Save as file, select a file format, and pick the SD card in the save dialog. The card will appear as a destination only if your Galaxy device supports removable storage and the card is mounted and visible to the dialog.

-
Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then tap Save as file.
-

In the save dialog, select the SD card if it is listed. Choose or create a folder if the dialog offers that option, then save the file. Samsung’s instructions describe selecting a save folder, but do not establish that every Galaxy model offers an SD card as a destination.

Samsung recommends keeping Notes updated, and labels can differ by installed version. Follow the closest matching options shown in your app. Samsung’s steps are documented in its Samsung Notes features and settings guide and Samsung Notes service guide.
Choose a file format for how you will use the copy
| Format | Useful when you need | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Notes | A copy in Samsung Notes format. | Samsung lists this as an export option; use it when you want a Samsung Notes-formatted file. |
| A document-style file that is broadly shareable. | Samsung says an imported PDF cannot be edited as a Samsung Notes note, although you can draw on or annotate it in the app. | |
| Word | Text you can reuse or edit in a word processor. | For handwritten notes, Samsung says the exported Word file can represent the writing as text, an image, or both. |
| PowerPoint | A slide-oriented copy. | Samsung lists it as an export option; the source does not promise identical layout or editability. |
| Image | A visual copy of the note. | Choose it when preserving a visual representation is more useful than editing note text. |
| Text | Plain text you can reuse. | Choose it when the note’s text matters more than its visual layout. |
These formats and their documented behaviors are described in Samsung’s US support guide and Korean service guide. Neither guide guarantees that formatting will be identical across export types.

If the SD card does not appear
The export workflow lets you choose a folder, but Samsung’s documentation does not say that every Galaxy phone or tablet supports an SD card or exposes one in the save-location picker. Check that your model has a card slot and that the card is inserted, mounted, and accessible. If the card still is not listed, save the export to an available folder instead; do not assume the note has disappeared.

Samsung Notes also supports synchronization through a Samsung account or Samsung Cloud. That keeps notes available through a service rather than creating a separate removable file copy. For exported files, Samsung Business Insights describes OneDrive and Google Drive as cloud destinations. See Samsung’s support guide and its Samsung Notes productivity tips.

Exporting a file is different from syncing notes
Save as file creates an exported copy in a chosen format and destination. Synchronization is a separate way to keep notes available through your account across supported devices. Choose export when you need a portable file on removable storage; choose synchronization when your goal is access across devices. One does not automatically mean the other.
